SAINT OF THE DAY (June 7)
Anthony Mary Gianelli, also known as Antonio Maria Gianelli, was born on 12 April 1789, Easter Sunday, to Giacomo and Maria Gianelli. He had five brothers.
His mother often taught people catechism and his father was known for his efforts in peace-making in their town.
Anthony grew up in a poor but pious family in a small farming village in Lombardy, Italy.
The owner of his family farm paid for Anthony's seminary education because he was such a promising student.
He was very young for ordination and required a special dispensation. However, he was ordained in 1812 and served as a parish priest.
He eventually founded several religious communities, some of them short-lived.
In 1827, he founded the Missionaries of St. Alphonsus, which lasted until 1856.
He also founded the Oblates of Saint Alphonsus in 1828, which lasted only 20 years.
The Daughters of Our Lady of the Garden, which he founded in 1829, still continue their ministry in education and among the sick in Europe, Asia and the United States.
In 1837, he was named bishop of Bobbio in Italy. He actively restored devotions and instructed the faithful.
He was a people’s bishop, visiting with his parishes and organizing two synods.
He died after nine years as bishop on 7 June 1846 due to serious fever and tuberculosis.
He was beatified by Pope Pius XI on 19 April 1920. He was canonized by Pope Pius XII on 21 October 1951.

CLAUDIA | No cancelled engagements this week.
ELISE | None? That is good news.
ELISE | Are they still sleeping in separate beds?
CLAUDIA | Yes ma'am.
ELISE | [sighs] That can't get out.
ELISE | Should I be worried about them, Claudia?
CLAUDIA | ...I think so, Ma'am. I am.
ELISE | I found him the best psychologist in the country, and he quit therapy after a single session. A single session!
ELISE | Sometimes, I don't know why I bother. It doesn't matter what I do fro them, it's never enough.
CLAUDIA | ...I'm sorry, Ma'am.
ELISE | [sighs] I should get back to the house. Same time next week?
TIFFANY ROGERS | [on the TV] ...her name is Lady Emily. Her father is the longest-serving member of the privy council, Grand Duke Chandra, Earl of Monmout.
GUNILLA ROOS | [on the TV] It's hard to be excited when all this means is another royal wedding and another §70 million bill for the taxpayer.
CELESTE ALFORD-HUFF | Gunilla, I think you're just bitter your husband left you—
STUDIO AUDIENCE | OOOO—
[door opens]
ELISE | Are you seriously watching Women of a Certain Age?
ANDRE | I've gotta stay informed. And good morning to you, too. Why don't you sit down and have something to eat?
ELISE | [offscreen, curtly] I already ate.
ANDRE | [offscreen] Please? I miss spending time with you.
ELISE | What, did Leonor stop taking your calls?
ANDRE | [sighs] I don't know why you hate her so much.
ELISE | She's fucking my husband. Next question.
ANDRE | So hate me! Leonor has done nothing to you—
ELISE | [scoffs] You're kidding, right?
ELISE | I've forgiven a lot, but I will not sit here and listen to you defend her. Do you have something to talk about, other than your mistress, or are we done?
ANDRE | ...um, the women of a certain age like Emily and Freddy.
ELISE | If I cared what those old bats thought about my family, I'd watch their show.
ANDRE | 'Old bats?' Pot meet kettle...
ELISE | Are you trying to get on my nerves? Because you're succeeding.
ANDRE | I'm sorry. Can I try again? Good morning, how are you?
ELISE | [sighs]
ELISE | Did you need something? Because I've got a lot to prep for this week...
ANDRE | No, but—
ELISE | Well, I'll be off then—
ANDRE | Lees...
ELISE | Have a good day!

Something I find amusing about the 1983 POTO version is that the Erik, Christine and Raoul characters have all canonically fucked (not one another, in like a threesome but still).
Also, I don't know about you, but I really like this more ambitious and career-driven take on Christine (or Maria in this version), although I've heard others say that they prefer the more naive versions. I'm just glad we have both types of her.
