Rejecting Noelle’s confession

a/n: this post is part of @ghostly-march ‘s 600 Follower event, feel free to check it out if you’re interested in reading more or writing something yourself.
I… actually felt like writing angst, for some reason. I know, weird. But please don’t expect me to do this every day, self-inflicted emotional pain’s only fun for me under very arbitrary conditions.
That being said, I didn't write angst in quite some time, so I hope this is somewhat decent
Anyway, hope you enjoy suffer!
Noelle
Noelle’s number one priority has always been to become an official Knight of Favonius. And while she was fine with working, training and studying on her own, having done so for a long time, when you, an actual knight, offered your assistance, she was all too eager to accept.
With how much time the two of you spent together, preparing her for the exam, it was impossible for you not to grow closer to each other, but while you started to see Noelle more like a little sister, her feelings for you weren’t as platonic.
When Noelle asked you to meet you under the big tree in Windrise, you first assumed it to be yet another meet-up to search for enemies she could train on, with you having decided that doing so yourself while Noelle fought with all of her power was too much of a health-hazard, you instead were greeted by the maid nervously standing there while holding a rose in her hand.
“Good morning, Noelle. Are you alright, we don’t have to be here today, we can just study in the library instead?”, you asked once you noticed her red ears, and while you weren’t stupid enough to think it was because she was ill, it nevertheless made you worry. But before you had the chance to continue, Noelle looked up to you before handing you the flower, and while it was far from the first time she did so, seemingly never really knowing what roses represented for most people, causing her to hand them out to you as a token of your friendship, she never did do so with a blushing face, causing you to start worry even more.
“N-No, I’m fine, can we stay here? There’s something I have to tell you”, she stuttered out a response, only for you to nod your head, in turn making her take a deep breath before opening her mouth once again, “I’m really thankful for all of the time you spent helping me prepare to become a knight. Learning from you not only helped me get better but were also a lot of fun…Please excuse my stuttering, I’m just really not used to doing this, but I l-like you, will you go ou- out with me?”, she confessed with her eyes shut, getting louder towards the end as she forced herself to through with it.
Noelle’s sudden confession left the two of you in an awkward silence, with her nervously waiting for an answer while you froze out of pure shock.
You wished that this was all a bad dream, that you’d wake up in your bed any second and would be able to laugh about how weird your dream was, but as the silence stretched longer, so did your realisation that you were awake, accompanied by a silent prayer that your friendship would survive what was about to happen.
“Noelle…”, you forced yourself to say something, feeling like the least you ought her for her courage was to actually respond, only for the maid to slowly open her eyes before starring at you with the realisation for what was about to come slowly setting in. “I like you too, I desperately want to see you succeed and become the best Knight there could be… but I can’t bring myself to lie you in the face and tell you I feel the same way you do”, you eventually continued, and while you tried your best to make it hurt as little as possible, her sad smile was enough to make your heart hurt.
And while rejection normally wasn’t a thing that could stop Noelle from achieving her dreams, with her trying to become a knight each year even after failing so many entrance exams, this time was different, as even someone as unexperienced as her knew that she couldn’t change your feelings by sheer determination.
“…Understood. I’m sorry for asking you to meet me so suddenly. I’m sure you have a lot to do, so I won’t disturb you any further. Have a nice day!”, she responded while trying her best to sound as normal as possible, only to make a quick bow before hurrying back to the city, leaving you to stand there on your own while silently agonising over the situation.
Eventually, you decided to also make your way back to the Knight’s headquarters, and while you had hoped that the two of you’d be able to go back to how things were before, you saw Noelle grow more and more distant towards you while there was nothing you could do against it, with her making up excuses as to why she had to leave the room whenever you tried to confront her.
Until eventually, she started greeting you with the same polite smile and words she greeted every Knight whenever the two of you passed in the hallway.

hii it’s my first time doing a request so idk if i’m doing this right… so i recently had to put down my dog of 14years and it was really hard because i grew up with her and i was wondering if you could write a little something with Noelle (platonic). Like how she would comfort a reader that just lost their pet. just some comfort fluff.

A/n: hello!!! I’m so sorry to hear about the loss of your dog, I bet she was a wonderful pet to grow up with. I hope this makes you feel even a little better, cause I understand the loss of a pet can be extremely hard. I hope you enjoy, and I hope you have a great rest of your day :)
“Good morning [name]!” Noelle said as you walked into the knights headquarters, about to start a tiring day at work. You only smiled, but something was… off. Noelle has been your closest friend in the knights, and while she’s not always the best with social cues, she knows what that smile meant, and she knew it was sad. “Oh dear… what’s wrong?” Noelle asked sympathetically. Her kindness warmed your heart, as she wrapped an arm around you guiding you to your office where you two could talk in private.
After telling her everything, how much you loved your pet, how much it hurt to put them down, noelle had this sad look on her face, as if she may cry. Noelle is a extremely sympathetic, and emotional person, but it was comforting seeing someone who cared so much about others, and their feelings. Noelle left your office for a minute, saying she had to go grab something.
You thought this would be a good time to start work, since you had no idea how long she would take… that was a bad idea by the way. Noelle came back, with two plates full of pancakes, specially made by her. She set the massive plate down in front of you saying, “making, and eating food always helps me feel better.” Her sympathetic smile made you feel warm and fluffy. You ate pancakes as you told stories about your pet, describing them in vivid detail, as noelle listened intently. She’d help anyone in need, especially her best friend.
