Blohm & Voss BV 138 Seedrache (Sea Dragon) flying boat rendezvousing with a U-Boat, 1943. Even though the official name was Seedrache, it was more often called Der Fliegende Holzschuh (The Flying Clog). The BV 138 had an excellent service record and because it had diesel engines, it could transfer fuel from U-Boats to extend its range. For more, see my Facebook group - Eagles Of The Reich

Episode 66: UB-65, the Damned German Submarine of WWI Photodump
Image 01: 1918. German sailors aboard German Type III U-Boat UB-65. The crew aboard the UB-65 were plagued by bad luck, apparitions, and supernatural forces. Image 02: The UB-65 at port in Belgium. The vessel was known to be haunted throughout German military circles and was considered cursed. Image 03: Crew sleeping quarters & Crew Room on a German Type III U-Boat. Note the tiny bunks (left). Image 04: Crew lockers. All of your belongings would fit into one of these compartments. Image 05: MANHOLE LEADING TO THE PERISCOPE. Look how small it is! Image 06: After multiple incidents of crew asking to be relocated due to hauntings, Admiral Ludwig von Schroder personally investigated the UB-65 case. After interviewing each sailor about their experienced aboard the UB-65, the entire crew was relocated. Image 07-09: Examples of St. Elmo’s Fire. Sailors claimed they saw something similar to this natural phenomenon inside the submarine during battle. Image 10: The UB-65’s final resting place. Although this wreck site has been confirmed to be the UB-65, the wreck is considered a war grave and not to be entered.

300 Bottles of French Cognac Recovered From Ship Sunk by German U-Boat
Bottles were salvaged in 2019 by a specialist Swedish team near the Baltic Sea. 600 bottles of cognac and 300 bottles of Benedictine were brought to shore. Swedish steamer Kyros was sunk by German submarine during First World War. Now bottles have been cleaned, refilled and are on sale for nearly £8,000 each.
A hoard of contraband alcohol recovered from a shipwreck 100 years after it sank on its way to tsarist Russia is going on sale for nearly £8,000 a bottle.
Hundreds of bottles were salvaged by a specialist Swedish team in the Sea of Aland, near the Baltic Sea, in 2019.
The crew found 600 bottles of De Haartman & Co cognac and 300 bottles of Benedictine liqueur within the remains of the Kyros, which was sunk by a German submarine in May 1917.
It is believed the shipment left Bordeaux in December 1916, but was delayed until the spring due to ice in the Gulf of Bothnia.
By the time the ship was on its way to Russia again, Tsar Nicholas II had been forced to abdicate as the Russia Revolution took over the country.
Since the haul was found again, Cognac house Birkedal Hartmann has carefully cleaned 300 of the bottles, removed the corks and filled them with Grande Champagne Cognac from 1910-15, reports Decanter.
Company archives were used to reproduce the original corks, capsules and labels. Each one-litre bottle is presented in a gift box, which also contains the original cork a and a photograph of the SS Kyros.
At the time of discovering the wreck, Peter Lindberg, who led expedition group Ocean X, said: 'The conditions in the Baltic are very suitable for storing these kind of beverages because it's dark and very cold.'
The Kyros left Sweden in May 1917 and was sunk to a depth of 77 metres in the Sea of Aland, between Sweden and Finland, with an explosive charge.
The ship's crew survived and were transferred to another vessel before returning to Sweden, according to Ocean X.
Mr Lindberg said his group located the wreck more than 20 years ago, but lost the position, only to re-discover it many years later.
It took years to clear the wreck of abandoned fishing nets so divers could inspect it but even then conditions proved to be too difficult to search manually.
He said: 'After we had been there several times with divers and a smaller ROV (remotely operated vehicle), we realised that the situation was becoming too dangerous.'
Ocean X asked Icelandic salvage company iXplorer to help raise the bottles by using a specially equipped salvage vessel, Deepsea Worker.
Four full bottles of De Haartmann Cognac were later auctioned to collectors for US$45,000 (£37,000) each.
In January 2020, one of the surviving bottles of Benedictine was opened at the Palais Benedictine in Fecamp, northern France, where it was hailed as 'pleasant' to taste with notes of cocoa, coffee and mocha.
