scaramouche took you for a naive fool, just as he was when oh so stupidly believed those words as kunikuzushi.
you are but a human. a mere breath of his everlasting eternity. a few hundreds of years and he would forget everything about you.
insignificant, you humans were.
frail.
vulnerable.
so so easy to break.
as he walked into the path of darkness; consuming him and turning him into someone he doesn't recognize in the mirror no longer—kabukimono, kunikuzushi, the love of your life, was long gone. memories like the leaves that turn yellow and crumble to ashes as winter approaches.
yet the winter will remain in his empty chest for as long as he walks teyvat. churning into a blizzard of ice cold pain, destroying everything around him as it grows. he continues to walk this wretched path he chose.
but then he met someone, rekindling the spark that was once there beneath his porcelain skin. trying to light up a burn out wick, to bring an end to his winter and bring forth the beautiful spring he was once.
scaramouche never thought he'd love again.
even after all through the pain he went from the doctor's experiments, after roaming the great expanse of the abyss, after becoming the balladeer, the 6th of the fatui harbingers, he still felt.
love.
happiness.
pain.
sorrow.
and regret.
he hates it, but he loves them, just as much as he loved you.
though he allowed someone new worm their way into his heart, he kept them in arm's reach. he cannot bear to be vulnerable to someone else. they were human, they were to die; he is a puppet, he is meant to live on forever.
but then he heard them say things only you would say. giving him lavender melons you bought off the market, accidentally calling him names only you would know.
he remember that promise you made him before you died.
"i'll come and find you in every life celestia will give me."
scaramouche did not understand what he felt when he realized that his new lover, was in fact, just a reincarnation of you. and just like that, your name burns back itself into his mind—a name he thought he had erased into obscurity, along with his past.
he was a fool, scaramouche thought. he laughed at himself, a laugh void of humor, nor joy.
it was your name, your first incarnation, just in a different language.
it appears that scaramouche didn't like this feeling. of bitter butterflies in his stomach, the familiarity when you try to get close to him, the same smile you had, the light full of love in your eyes—it was all too much for him.
so he left you in the snow of his ever growing blizzard. buried under the thick layers of freezing ice.
and again, to your next reincarnation. a fatui, a vendor, an adventurer, a knight, a scholar—male, female, neither, or all of them; tall, short, plump, slim, dark or light skinned,
he cannot bear to lose you just as he first did.
slipping by his fingers, to the one thing he is not affected by.
death.
he doesn't accept the fact that your love has led you back to him, again and again.
why do you even keep coming back? don't you know he's part of the fatui? don't you know what he has done? don't you know what he has become?
and yet you'd knock on his door, calling his name with your voice full of warmth, arms wide for him to take and allow himself to be called yours again—all he had to do was open the door.
he has kept a lock on it ever since he met you again.
worn down and rotten; chains all rusted, handle jammed and barely working. he approaches the door once again. this time, as wanderer. a better version of himself,
one that's finally willing to open the door to you.
but you weren't there anymore, waiting for him on the other side.
how could you? you were never there in the first place.
not with this version of himself.
not as the wanderer.
and maybe that was for the best. even though he cries himself to sleep at night for all the things he has done to you. weeping, as he curls onto the sheets, praying to the stars above in hopes you'd hear his heartbroken apologies, yearning for your love, your touch, your smiles—
this was his punishment for hurting you, for being a fool. he was underserving of your love, after all.
"hey, wanderer, was it?"
a new voice, someone unfamiliar. he refrained from sighing, for buer's sake, and instead took a deep, refreshing breath. he turns, and the stranger smiles brightly at him.
immediately, as if the winds of spring has hit him all so suddenly in the face. the fragrance of blooming flowers that was once buried under the snow, the sun shining brightly in the skies, and birds chirping symphonies.
like the mornings brimming with new found hope, the smell of dew sticking onto his clothes as he trace his fingers all over the a tree's trunk. like the the juices of a fruit he sank his teeth into, dribbling down the corners of his lips and down his arms.
warmth tingled on his skin, and his heart leaps.
"nice to meet you!" you say your name, a name he has heard hundreds of versions before, all so different and yet they all felt and tasted like honey dripping down his tongue. "i hope we get along."
"yeah," he says, almost breathless, as the tears begins to well in his eyes. his fingers tremble, and his smile grew wobbly. tipping his hat down to avoid your gaze, his voice cracks. "i hope so too."
his door was wide open, waiting for you come in.
you grin, and take a step inside.

꒰ SOMETHING ABOUT U ꒱ ⋮ KAEYA ALBERICH → [ CONTENT & TAGS ]:fem!reader, references to canon divergent lores ( mixed with my ideas; nothing promising but i needed to get this months old idea out of brain so that i can focus on other activitis :">) , kaeya has obsessive behavior, angst, mention of prostituion, implicit smut. word count —2k // back to blog navigation. // beta read by my beloved ari @orchid3a . also tagging @kaelily <3.
synopsis:: “Beyond the sea, against the waves
where the sea and sky meet, where tides kiss the moon,
A protector shall be re-born, and Khaenri’ah will rise once again with retribution.”
Tumblr media
Many grave and galant eclipses and solstices have been witnessed by the mortals, humans lived and died but the protector did not return. A prophecy that was made years ago has now made it to the front page of the newspaper with the headline, “DID THE GODS GRANT MERCY TO THE KHAENRI’AHNS ?”
A year ago Kaeya Alberich would neither have believed in this prophecy nor would have sworn to pursue the veiled truth and call it ‘fate’. But now, his ship sails across the oceans with him sitting in his personal chamber holding a brown paper, reading the same article that was published a year ago while a girl sleeps in his bed.
His million moras haul, alive and breathing.
Kaeya settles at the edge of his bed swirling the wine in his goblet. With your eyes closed, bosom rising and falling at a slow steady speed he thinks you look like one of those sleeping fairies inside those nyctinastic flowers that he once saw in picture-book when he was a toddler; he accidentally stumbled upon it and saw the wonders that belonged to the out of the word, this word— a child sitting at one of the corners of the library, hiding from the Archon’s wrath, hiding and protecting, hiding and fearing. He is not someone to put faith in the Archons. He does not feel anything about the mocking existence of the Archons, neither rebel nor rage; nothing. Therefore, must he be the one to go against the waves and wind, against the sun and moon, against the gods?
But if Archons were to really exist as people claim, then perhaps it was the Archons' will when his eyes fell on you for the very first time, on that cold night, on that dead island under an enormous tree as you were lying half-clad, breathing but barely alive. While his home was swallowed by the oceans five hundred years ago with no trace at the bottom of the sea, there was you, a fragile creature taking the last of its breaths. He found you in the exact same place where once he breathed and lived in the air of Khaenri’ah. Kaeya does not believe in the Gods, but he does believe in ‘miracles’, and ‘chance encounters’. Now he is ready to believe in some years-old prophecy.
A flame flickering to live on still delivers light.
The winds were treacherous that night, they were not howling like other stormy nights Kaeya had endured. There was an uncanny smell in the winds of the island, a smell that he can neither remember nor recognize, the mixed smell of something greater, something divine— like ichor, blood and bones. He could hear something eccentric too; He knew the winds of the sea like a caterpillar knows its fate to become a butterfly. But this was different, a foreign feeling. It felt like the wind was whispering right into his ears. He has never felt so hollow before.
That was the first time he heard how hollow he was. It is like when someone was blows air through a hollow pipe so rapid, so full and so hollow that it is on the verge of breaking. Standing there in the dead of the night, with his crew busy at the shore decking the ship he could not separate between himself and those bullet shells that looted lives while his eyes glimmered at your corpse-like body in the pale moonlight, lips trembling and then curving into a crescent.
The clanking sound of bullet shells hitting the floor, the sound of blazing homes which once were made with love and care, the screams of the dying, and the smell of the dead— he remembers it all. It might have been five hundred years ago for others, but it was still fresh as a morning dew in his mind. He can not forget. Every time he sleeps, he dreams of destruction and every time he is awake he vows on vengeance.
“Woah! Careful there,” Last time when Kaeya was here you had been sleeping. You have been in and out of slumber for a week now. He helped to restore your balance as you tried to wake up and stacked a few pillows behind your back so that you sit at ease. You do not resist, do not have enough power to do so. The marks on your skin are slowly fading, your eyes are now much more expressive, lips and ankles devoid of any fine lines. The only scratch on your body is on your forehead, a star, and a half circle at the lower end of the star. It is very faint now but its there. It was raw and fresh at the night when he first laid you on his bed. It seemed like someone carved it with a knife but there was no dried blood along the scar or anywhere on your body.
Last month, precisely, a week ago, when Kaeya fetched a doctor for you from the port city of Mondstadt, Dorman, he did not mention anything about the scar. Even when he asked about it specifically, all he got was a laugh at its non-existence. But he can see it, clear as a day.
“You are doing a lot better than when I first saw you.” He admits as you finally look at him. “Are you hungry? Last night you did not eat much.” It has become a part of his routine now. Being there when you wake up, helping you, telling you stories, taking you out on the deck, watching you from afar when you are awake, and watching you up close when you are asleep. He is trying his best to help you to feel comfortable as much as possible so that you remember your origin, so that you remember your fate, so that you remember what the Archons did. But so far you have only talked minutely about your home and he did not make much of it.
“No. I do not feel hungry.” Your fidgeted with your fingers averting his gaze. Your attention falls on the dip created on the bed where he kept his hand to adjust the pillows. You gulp wetting your throat. “But I do feel thirsty.” You keep your hand beside his, an inch away. He looks at you, with sapphire-embedded eyes and then at the hands. His little finger shifts towards yours, slowly. You quickly pull your arm into your lap. “Do you think we can visit the port city today?” you ask hoping to divert his attention.
Last night he mentioned it and when you ask so eagerly so softly, his barren cold heart is set ablaze. You are now strong enough to pay attention to him. It makes him happy. Kaeya smiles looking at you before answering, “Of course we can. The others will take care of things at the ship and meanwhile we can visit the port.” He leaves the bed and walks towards the exit of his room. Before vanishing from your sight he states, “Get changed. I will be be the one to accompany you to the city today.”
You have been living in his room, breathing his air, sleeping in his bed, and wearing his clothes for a month since the day he rescued you. Traveling amongst the winds and the waves with you has not been entirely in vain either. Truth be told, Kaeya likes your presence. Today he is finally taking you out amongst the people and needless to say he is not leaving you out of his sight. He is walking behind you while you are in awe, admiring the surroundings.
You two stand at one of the shops as you ask about all the things and watch everything with such surprise in your eyes that it reminds him of himself when he was a child. He occasionally scans your surroundings, waves at the people he knows, and smiles at the girls he visited at the pleasure house. Those were some bright evenings he lived, enjoying the night at the pleasure house, fucking the girls till they fainted and disappearing into the sea at the break of dawn— the best he had of his life until . . . you walked into his peaceful luxurious life. He glances at you increasing the amount of distance between you two scooting to a side.
The crowd is slowly increasing and why would it not? Kaeya is here and word must have gotten around the town. He rarely visits port cities unless he has to collect hauls and buy some supplies in exchange for them. This was neither of them. This was a new thing. A news: ‘Lord Alberich is here with some maiden.’ It will draw attention more to him than to you. His smile fades away as he turns his head and does not see you. He asks the shopkeeper and he tells that you went towards the sea. shit.
The dusk is approaching and he should be in his room in his ship with you, not scouring the earth for you. Kaeya enters his room briskly with hundreds of thoughts running in his mind, wild and free. What if you are not here? What if someone recognized you? What if someone abducted you? What if . . .?
He sits on the chair with a thud seeing you on the bed with a new set of clothes, lying unconscious. He remembers buying you some clothes but not changing them. The clothes you had been wearing are neatly folded and kept on another bed. His eyes are still on you like a hawk watching its prey. “When did she get hear?” He asks as his breathing becomes even.
“About an hour ago, Lord Alberich.” one of the members of the crew answered. “She found her way back to here. We found her lying unconscious to the ground when we came to give the food.” Kaeya waves his hand at them asking them to leave. He pours some wine into his goblet and like always, sits at the edge of the bed but this time closer to your face.
He runs the back of his fingers along your cheeks murmuring to himself, “What am I gonna do with you… you are driving me insane, paranoid a bit.” He does not know your origin, your past nor your full name, nothing. Even though he is trying his best to give you the benefit of doubt, you keep thinning his faith on you every time.
He lifts up his head, his arm reflexively stretches towards the gun in the hostler. He presses and clicks open the safety lock and keeps the nozzle at your temple. Will you bleed blood or ichor if he hurt you? Will you lament or will you punish him if he hurt you? Are you here to kill him and his people? Or Are you here to help him and his people?
His fingers move over your forehead, over the marks. He is sure he is the only one who can see your forehead scar. So he takes a risk that he did not think of doing it, ever. Keeping his goblet aside, his index finger slipped underneath his eye patch, pushing it aside for it to remove. There is it, his suspicion is confirmed.
As the scar on her forehead glows and his right eye does not sting or hurt like it should his limbs give up and he lands on his knees beside the bed. There he sat and wept like a boy while his ‘fate’ lay in front of him. How can he not believe what he sees with his own two eyes?
So many questions yet answers to none. But he is aware of only one thing— that you are everything that he does not believe. An Archon. A deity. A bane to his existence. But he refuses to hurt you. He refuses to become the very thing he despises. He refuses to let it go in with just one shot and therefore, he must keep you, tame you, and protect you.
ik this has a lot of loopholes & might make this a multichaptered series but that depends on how well it will do :]

Okay so how about the reader coming home after an exhausting day basically dead on their feet only to fine the acolytes in their house
💧anon
This is a good one i like 👌🤌
İ think i read something like this before, time to make my own version!
(also would be so cool if you asked me on what characters you want me to add next time so i can make it even better for you :D)
Masterlist
More under the cut!
Halucinations??
The whole day you were thinking about going home, getting a nice, warm bath, and going to sleep after all the work that you have done.
You were so exhausted that even getting your shoes off and opening the door felt like a chore. So you took your time, its not like it was due anytime haha.
While you get your keys out, you realised a sweet aroma filling the air, maybe one of your neighbors is making food, which made you realise you are actually hungry.
The smell was so out of this world that you would kill to get a piece of whatever they were making, but your exhaustion didn't make you even move. So you decided to ask for the recipe tommorrow.
You finally opened the door and draged yourself inside. The smell getting stronger but you opened the windows before leaving so you brushed it off as the neighbor profably has as well.
You open the door of your room, passed some group of people that made noise and fall on top of your bed. Slowly dosing off.
......
.....wait a second.
You wake up and stand back up the second you realise what the hell is happening.
"W-WHO THE HELL ARE YOU?!"
"Your Grace!! We can explain!"
"GET OUT GET OUT!" you grab the nearest thing you can use as a weapon.
suprisingly, that scares them?
"PLEASE DONT EXECUTE US WE DİDN'T MEAN TO!!!"
"İ SAİD GET THE HELL OUT OF MY HOUSE!!!"
"PLEASE LİSTEN TO US FİRST YOUR HİGHNESS"
You throw your weapon at them and grab something else.
"İ WİLL CALL THE COPS!!!"
"WHO İS COPS?!"
"WHAT KİND OF QUESTİON- JUST LEAVE!!!!!"
"OKAY OKAY!!!!"
They slowly take a step back, "just don't be scared ok?"
Now that you regained most of your senses because of their calmer voice and further distance, you can analyse the situation.
These people, who are in a very cool cosplay of genshin impact, came in your house, and acted like you are the Queen of england for some reason??
İf you weren't scared out of your mind, you would be pretty goddamn impressed by all the cosplays.
Albedou's face looks like it's handmade made from chalk, Al haitham was super tall and well built, Like straight out of a Wattpad story. YELAN LOOKED SO HOT?!?! The only meh cosplay was Kujou Sara's cosplay. The material looked pretty hard.
Venti's outfit was unlike any cosplays you ever seen, it had crazy amount of detail. Nahida's hair looked so real that you bet it glows too! Even Ei and zhongli's eyes have a little glow on them.
".....why are you in cosplay..."
"Cos.... Play?"
"WHY ARE YOU HERE AT ALL??"
"Perhaps it is better that i explain" Albedou's mouth moved, you kind of got scared as it looked like it can break any second.
"Perhaps you don't recocnise us, but we are your followers."
"This is so weird...."
He continued without paying you any mind. "İ recently came across a knowledge that we can contact you without breaking the holy scripture.
So naturally, i experimented on it. And i managed to open up a portal that leads us to your world."
"Ok now you are talking nonsense."
"Quite the contrary, its only science"
"NOTHİNG ABOUT THİS İS SCİENCE!!'
"With that said" Kujou Sara spoke "we weren't sure if it was concidered a sin in your eyes." She fall to her knees, the other imitiating her. "We are ready to take our punishment you deem necessary."
You just... Stared at them...
THESE PEOPLE ARE İNSANE!!!!
"Yeah im not calling the cops. İm gonna call an ambulance"
Before you manage to take your phone and dial in numbers, Albedo asked you "uh, your highness...?"
"What?"
"İt seems that i forgot to take out the food from the fire. Could i go and make sure it isn't burned?"
"...the smell was your cooking?"
"Forgive me, i was looking through the devices in your world and got carried away, i wasnt sure on the purpose of the device, and decided to Cook something."
Your stomack rumbles at that, you aren't sure if you should eat anything an insane person does but you were too tired to think anyway.
"....could i taste it..?"
His eyes go wide "...realy?"
"İm... A bit hungry, i didnt have time to eat today."
"Of course! İll go grab you a plate!"
The others also raise their head "Can we do anything else?!"
"Uhhh???" You weren't sure, would they go aggresive if you don't let them? They might have actuall mental illness afterall...
"You guys can sit down in the living room, that would help!"
Al haitham looked at you "help with...?"
"Uhh, me to gather my toughts?"
"Of course! Take your time." Zhongli sais. And then adds "...sorry to disturb you but... Where is the living room?"
"Where television is?" You decide to test them
"Uhhh, huh... Vision.... Where vision is...."
"Oh boy just follow me."
-------------------------
You ate your food. İt was so good! But you kind of wished you didn't wish for tasting the food before coming inside the home and wish for something else. Like all your work going away.
You joined them in the living room. Ei and Sara looks were sitting on the ground, in front of the coffee table. They all turned at you when you walk in.
"Feeling better?" Nahida asked "your face gained its color back!"
"...yeah, thank you for the food."
"Will you hear us out now?" Al haitham spoke up, he was getting tired himself.
"How did you come here?" You decide to ask. Maybe getting some clues on who they actually are and help the cops, who are on their way.
"We opened a portal from our world to your world." Albedo explained again.
"Right, right, but i meant how did you come inside my house?"
"We fell"
"Fell?"
"We were thrown out of some strange device."
"Device... You mean my computer?"
"Com.. comput-er?"
You decide to check on it, praying that they didn't break it....
İt was there! Safe! Not a single scratch! You thank whatever god that came to mind for it.
Then you Heard a strange noise coming from your computer. İt never made that noise before.
You opened your computer.
As soon as you do, wind pics up and sucks everything that is not supported by something heavy inside the computer.
The screen looks like a small version of the abyss, and you see your work papers/notes fly inside the screen.
You immediatly close the computer.
Yeah you are halucinating from working too much. When you wake up, everything will be back to normal.
No more maddness. Just sleep.
And with that you fall back on your bed.
After a dreamless slumber, you wake up to knocking on the door.
"Police! There has been a notice about 8 people forcefully getting inside the house, we are armed and will shoot if you ressist!"
"Your grace..?"
Uh-oh it wasnt a dream.
You quickly got up from your bed and opened the front door.
"Ah im sorry im the one who sent that. My friends were just playing a prank on me and i didn't realise it was them. İm sorry for disturbing you."
The cops just said something about fake notice and left.
"OH MY GOD THİS İS SO STRESSFUL!!"
"How did you call them here?"
"Nevermind that... God i need a break..."
"Will you listen to us for Real this time?" Nahida asked, actually worried about you.
You droped your head. You know what you saw. But you are still not sure if you should belive them. But at this point, what can you even do?
"Fine, please tell me from the start."
___________________________________________
You denied their request. You can't leave your own world, at least not yet.
But they weren't going to give up on you that easily. So they weren't leaving anytime soon either.
Yeah you aren't going to be able to open your computer for a while.
Well at least they are the best room buddies you can ever hope for.
Zhongli is confused about money situation but got the hang of it pretty quickly.
Yelan, Nahida, albedo and al haitham all tried to convince you into visiting Tevat.
"Man this house chores are pain"
"İt wouldnt be if you were in tevat smh" Yelan said.
Venti bought wine with your money. (They be expensive) but apologised with a song he made for you!
Ei acts like a guard dog for you. Not sleeping at all and keeping an eye on you (apperantly she stoped a criminal and is a Superhero now)
So its pretty caotic untill you decide to leave this world and go back home.
Where you belong :)

"What is it that you see Y/N. I don't have time to play with your—"
...
He looks at the body, his body stopped. His knees were numb, it falls to is knees. He stares at your lifeless body in shock. He didn't believe it, he ignore your call, he thought you were only calling him because you needed him to be with you. But no, he was wrong. His tears rolled off his cheeks. He can't believe.. that someone foolish like him, decided to stay with to traveler to fight along side her. He knew the traveler was capable of protecting herself but he didn't want to leave their side. You and Xiao were a couple and he failed his part. You stayed with him even when he didn't care. You loved him even if he didn't have an ounce of love in him anymore. You cared for him even if he didn't care for you. You were there, his light to the dark but he was too selfish to see that. He missed the moment where he could've have a lovely picnic with you, he missed the moment where he could've been with you during the lantern lights. But he didn't, he obliged his selfish thoughts. Ever since he met traveler, he started to lose feelings for you and earn feelings for the traveler. Oh how he heard your cries every night, begging him to stay by your side but he didn't. He realizes how cruel he really is, just like his previous master. He could've been there to protect you but he didn't. His tears spilled and he held your body close to him.
"Y—y/n..please forgive me..I—I didn't mean to.."
No response was heard from you.
"Wake up, Y/N. Wake up..."
He touches your lips, and remembers the time when you first kiss him on the lips. They were so tender, so warm and soft. He remembers how your eyes gleam when the sun shined on them. He remembers your voice when you sang for him and said those three words. He can't believe he didn't save his only light source. His silent cries are the only thing that echos in your house. Oh how he could be so cruel to you and for fate to take you away.

❄❆❄ Indescribable Warmth ❄❆❄
Tighnari x female reader
Why cryo? Out of all the things you have gone through, a vision was the last thing that you wanted. The gaze of the gods wasn't what you wanted. It was your parents.
The sky was gloomy and cold. No sun, no light And no one around. Only the rain made its prominent presence as it drenched your every being. The mountains and trees all felt towering as tears slipped from your eyes as you stared at your vision. The last thing you remember is the harsh stare of your disappointed father as you failed another exam from the Akademiya. You tried so hard in following your parent's footsteps in becoming a researcher or scholar.
After years of studying and countless sleepless nights, it wasn't enough to gain their praise. And failing the exam didn't help. It made everything worse. All you could think of was what are you going to do now? You couldn't bare to see those eyes again. The shame and disappointment in them were too much for you to handle. Much less hear their words. Your heart ached at the thought of never seeing them again. They were all you've known and the people who took care of you. Yet, they are the same people that made your life a misery.
Before ending up in the cold rain, you sat in front of your father as he yelled at you. Your face is blank and deadpanned as an unsatisfied businessman. Maybe you have finally gotten used to the many lectures or rather you got used to hiding how much it hurt to see your disappointed father's face. Either way, it didn't stop him from yelling. But an idea to make it stop came to mind and without hesitation, you stood up and walked out of your home. Slowly the screams and shouts were drowned out by the thunderous rain. Slowly the thoughts roll in.
You were now alone. Wondering about the forests of Sumeru. Heading nowhere in particular. "Where should I go?", questions upon questions filled your mind as you walked further and further away from your home. The lush green of the forest became blurry and melted into one coherent shade. It was confusing. Your mind was already a mess. Holding your ground in front of your parents was no easy task and now, everything flooded out and the waves of emotions became overwhelming. Maybe you finally snapped. Maybe this was your breaking point. Or maybe this was the first step to becoming free. The cryo vision glowed, its bright blue light standing out from the greens. You stopped.
Everything stopped. Your mind. Your movements. And even the rain seemed to slow just a little. Suddenly the realization of the vision that you held in your hand brought you back from insanity. Although, it didn't erase all the ambiguity, someone's gaze, the gods' gaze nonetheless, looked at you. And the thought of someone rewarding you. Looking at you. Paying attention to you, made you feel something indescribable. Nothing that could possibly be put into words, but this feeling felt warm and tingly inside. Maybe the thought of someone caring about you made you feel validated. Maybe you are thankful to whoever shows a slight bit of kindness. Whether it be of good intent or not. You have never met an archon. And the stories of the Tsaritsa didn't make you want to meet her. Only a fool will be ignorant to turn their heads from the actions of the Fatui. But maybe the supposedly cold-hearted archon had some sympathy.
It seemed like hours since you left your home. Maybe it has been. But you grew tired of walking and need a place to rest. As much as the abandoned treasure hoarders' tents looked, who knew if they were going to come back? It was doing to be difficult to shelter that isn't pre-build by someone else. You rarely went outside because of the hours at your desk. So your experience is as good as none. Out of desperation, you set your mind on an empty tree hollow. And it seemed like the gods has some mercy from the rain, as there was one, just up ahead in some discoloured part of the forest. The trees and grass were grey and brown. Surely, it doesn't scream danger. Upon entering the entrance to the large tree hollow, you felt tired and a sense of relief from the rain washed over you. Quickly lying down, you succumbed to sleep.
The rain had ceased by morning. And the sun was just rising in the sky. Birds chipped with no care that they might wake you up. But you were so at peace, you didn't mind. But someone in the distance saw your body and concern grew in the pits of their stomach.
Tighnari, a forest watcher in the Avidiya forest was on patrol before the sun was awake. He often cleanses the many withering zones that have been popping up more recently. But coming upon a particular withering zone he spotted you. At first, he saw your body and thought it was lifeless and many humans without visions can't handle the symptoms and side effects. Sometimes they can be deadly. Then the shine of your cryo vision put his mind at ease, but only a little. How did you end up in a withering zone? Sure, the effects of ley line energy are less severe on vision welders, but that doesn't mean they should be careless about going near such dangers. Coming closer to your body, he caught sight of your breathing. You were alive.
You felt a gloved hand on your shoulder and your body shake. It was gentle yet firm. You didn't want to wake up. This was the first morning you felt at peace. No thought of a heavy lot packed schedule or shouting parents. Just the peace of the dew-covered grass. But alas, you stored awake when the shaking didn't stop.
"5 more minutes.... please." You sleepily say. Unaware of what was skating you and whether or not it was a danger to you. Either way, you were too sleepily to care.
"You can't stay here it is too dangerous." The voice replied. Their voice was also gentle yet firm. Just like their touch. The voice sounded concerned. It wasn't forced or sarcastic. It sounded genuine. Something you've never heard before.
"Why?" You said turning slightly away to get their hand to stop shaking.
"This area has serious dangers to one's well-being. Please wake up and come with me. I'll find you a safe place to nap."
"You sound so sure of yourself. If I wake up now, it will be hard for me to fall asleep again."
"Fine, you leave me with no choice."
Suddenly this stranger lifted you by the waist with ease and hoisted you over his shoulder. Not being fully awake, you thought you saw this stranger have a tail. You went to grab it. And when your hand touched the green fur, it was soft. Surprised you retract your hand and decided to officially wake up. You shake your head and try to comprehend what situation you are currently in.
Ok, I ran away from home. I slept in a tree hollow that was in a withering zone. Whatever that is. And now this guy is carrying me?!?
"Hold on put me down! I don't know who you are!" You screamed and kicked suddenly realizing your predicament. The stranger put you down gently and had you facing him. You immediately saw his ears. Tall and fluffy. Then you saw his attire. It looked more suited for the forest than what you were wearing.
"Finally grasping reality. Well, my apologies I needed to get you out of the withering zone. My name is Tighnari. I am a forest watcher and I was on patrol when I found you. I'm also taking you to Gandharva Ville to properly examine you." Tighnari said. You took a second to process what he said.
"Examine me?!?" You suddenly feel scared. To be fair, anything with the word 'exam' was going to spark some nerves. "What for?"
"For any symptoms from the withering zone. Now, come. It seems like you are ok to walk so, we can talk on the way."
And so you did. You walked with Tighnari. The forest looked so much more beautiful under clear blue skies. The lush green was more vibrant and the trees and mountains didn't feel towering as before. Now that your mind was a bit clearer than last night, you really appreciate the view.
"How did you end up in that tree hollow?" Tighnari said after watching you take in the view. He suspected that may be the first time in the forest.
"Oh..." The memories of last night flashed back. your father's face. Your calm exit. The rain. Your cryo vision. Your tears. And your state of mind at the time. "It's a long story."
"It's a long way to Gandharva Ville. I wouldn't mind listening."
"I ran away from home."
"I see. May I ask why?"
"Short and simple of it is, I was tired of seeing my father's disappointed face. So, I left so I didn't have to see it ever again." You looked every else but in Tighnari's direction. You didn't want anyone to see you like this. So broken and fragile. "Now thinking about it, it was quite an impulsive move."
"I don't blame you," Tighnari said calmly. It surprised you. You weren't expecting that response. "I am suspecting you have nowhere else to go, am I right?"
"Correct." You said lowly and with your head down.
"You can stay with me until you get back on your feet and I can help you with your vision."
"My vision?"
"Uh, yes. That is your vision, right?" Tighnari pointed to the cryo vision that hung from your waist. Its teal blue light shimmers in the light of day. "They say that visions are given to those who share the same ideals as the archon that grants them. Although, I can't prove that to be true. Still researching that topic." Tighnari giggles at the thought of his personal research.
"That is my vision." You confirmed. "I got it last night."
"Good. I got some lessons I can teach you. In the meantime, you can stay at my place."
"Wait, really?" Shock laced your voice. No one has offered so much kindness to you in your life.
"Of course, you got nowhere to go, right? It would be rude of me to leave you in the forest which is dangerous in itself. You're also not one of those stupid adventures. Otherwise, I would've just let you go after I looked at you."
"Uh, yes. Sorry."
"No need to apologize. Besides, I got to examine you. How long were you in that withering zone?"
"All night." You shamefully admitted. After hearing his concerns for you and the mention of a withering zone being dangerous, you were fully expecting a lecture to come from Tighnari. But he just pulled out his notepad and wrote a couple of things down. You were shocked and it was shown in your facial expression.
"I'll certainly add my finding about you to the new forest guide." He giggled as he looked up to see your face. But concern bubbled after a moment. "Are you ok?"
"You're not going to lecture me?"
"No. Of course not. Even though it was dangerous, this is the first time I've seen a vision welder stay in a withering zone for a very long period. If anything, I'll be asking you questions." Tighnari smiled. "Has all your life been lectures and lessons? You are dressed in an Academiya uniform so I'm assuming that is a yes. Otherwise, you wouldn't have blindly stumbled into that withering zone if you already knew what it looked like."
"You could tell that from just looking at me." You felt seen. Similar to an open book and he could see what was inside.
"I come across many people throughout my time in the forests so I know my fair share about people. Although, new experiences are always welcomed."
You and Tighnari continue to walk to Gandharva Ville. Engaging in many other subjects during your conversation. Tighnari was right about it being a long walk, by the time you reached your destination, it was mid-day and the sun was high in the sky. Welcoming you to the Ville, you quickly got examined by smelling certain scents. It wasn't a bad examination and Tighnari asked many questions. But by the end of it, you still couldn't get over one question.
"Why did you help me?"
Tighnari's ears pricked up at the sound of your voice that had interrupted the quiet. He sat at his desk taking some notes and when you saw one of his ears twitch in your direction, you knew he was listening.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't question. I'm grateful for your aid."
"No. It's alright. From your behaviour, I realize that my actions may be unfamiliar to you. It's ok to question the unknown to get more answers. That's how research works after all." Tighnari said without turning his head. He set down his pen and made his way to you. "I know how prestigious the Academiya can be. Their expectations are high and overwhelming. Not to mention the control they have on research. Your emotions and actions are valid and I understand them. So, don't go beating yourself up now."
For a moment you felt warm inside. And that indescribable feeling rose again. But you didn't want to question this unknown because didn't need to.
