#genderexpression
Text
Dear LGBTQ+ community,
As a member of this community, I have some questions on your sexuality labels. How can one be aroace yet lesbian, gay, bi, or whatever? Please explain. Because this confusion is the result of me being unlabeled
I have no complaints for your gender department. Although please separate gender-fluid and genderexpression. Gender expression is what you decide to present yourself by what you wear while Gender-fluid is whatever fucking gender you want. I almost had a crisis when I thought genderfluid and genderexpression were the same thing
Thank you,
Gender Gremlin :)

The term Two-Spirit initially emerged into contemporary vernacular in the 1990s when Indigenous people began actively resisting colonial values and processes and are working towards the reclamation of Two-Spirit identities. Indigenous LGBTT2QQIA groups rejected the Western anthropological definitions of Indigenous homosexual and transgender people and determined that the mainstream lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender identities did not include their Indigenous cultural understandings of gender and sexuality.3 Two-Spirit is a self-descriptor used by all gender and sexual variant Indigenous people in Canada and the United States that honours our ancestral past and reclaims our Indigenous identity. * * * * #twospirit #nativeart #2slgbtqiaplus #genderidentity #genderexpression #tomboy #androgynous #lesbian #genderfluid #reclaimyourpower #strongresilientindigenous #lgbtqia #lgbtqia2s #indigenous #indigenousart #haudenosaunee #drag #itsthelgbt #genderfluid #indigenousqueer #gendernonconforming #genderqueer #lgbtqyouth #indigiqueer #queeraf #nonbinarygender #enby (at Akwesasne Mohawk Territory) https://www.instagram.com/p/CjTL-LGLPxt/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

The Impact and Importance of Gender Fluidity in Society and Self-Expression
“The beauty of gender fluidity is its lack of definition,” (Rizwan, 2023)
There are increased risks to the mental and physical health of gender-diverse children and teens who experience prejudice and discrimination for expressing their gender in a way that differs from the sex they were given at birth. When minority youth encounter stress, it can have a substantial negative effect on their mental health, resulting in higher rates of anxiety, depression, self-harm, and suicide thoughts than in the case of cisgender youth.
Youth who identify as gender non-conforming may face difficulties due to societal expectations of "normal". They may face prejudice and discrimination because of their changing gender identity and expression, which may run counter to cultural expectations of a fixed gender development. Not only may certain members of the cisgender community discriminate against transgender people, but some members of the transgender community may not completely accept their gender fluidity because they believe they are not “truly” transgender.
For those who have rigid notions about gender, the fluidity of a young person's gender expression—such as dressed femininely one day and masculinely the next—may be confusing or disturbing. The uncertainty or danger that comes with a shifting gender identity could fuel more prejudice or miscommunication among different groups.
Carla Hernando, a 26-year-old who discovered their non-binary identity during the solitude of the Covid-19 lockdown in 2020, embarked on a transformative journey during Pride Month. This exploration led to a profound resonance with concepts like non-binary and gender fluidity, reshaping their understanding of identity from conventional gender norms to a more fluid and flexible outlook.
"One day I wake up and feel more feminine, and maybe I want to wear a crop top and put earrings on," Carla shares. Fashion allows Carla to express themselves in such a way.
Gender fluidity for Carla represents a non-labeling descriptor, enabling them to uniquely express themselves each day by embracing both feminine and masculine presentations interchangeably. However, societal expectations and environments sometimes challenge their desired expression of gender fluidity, influencing how they present themselves.
Initially feeling different from typical gender identities, Carla struggled to find an appropriate label. As a gender-fluid individual, they now find freedom in rejecting societal gender norms, expressing their identity authentically, and communicating their preferred pronouns to others. However, challenges persist, such as explaining non-gendered pronouns to family and encountering invasive questions from friends.
Despite obstacles, embracing their gender fluidity has empowered Carla to set clearer boundaries in relationships and prioritize personal comfort
Experts note the rise in young people expressing gender fluidity, reflecting a broader societal trend toward recognizing diverse gender identities. This growing awareness is facilitated by accessible information and online communities.
The evolution of gender fluid fashion is rooted in history across various cultures and timeframes as a mode of self-expression for non-conforming individuals. In the West, traditional gender divides emerged with the transition to market economies. Men's and women's fashion experienced shifts over time, with moments of rebellion against traditional gender norms. Icons like Mick Jagger, Aaliyah, and Missy Elliot blurred the lines between masculine and feminine elements, shaping popular trends seen today, such as cargo pants and oversized clothing for women.
The current visibility of gender non-conforming individuals, partly attributed to Gen Z, signifies a reality rather than just a trend throughout history. As society and fashion become more accepting, it's crucial for brands to continue embracing gender-fluid self-expression.
Gender-neutral clothing emerges as a symbol of societal progression, challenging stereotypes and fostering inclusivity. It represents a shift away from associating specific clothing with genders, emphasizing individual comfort and happiness over societal expectations. Individuals can find solace in being true to themselves, no longer seeking external validation to establish their identity.

My style is - in essence - a reclamation of femininity. It wasn't something I thought could belong to me, but as I came into my queerness, it was very much as a queer femme. Hoop earrings were something I loved, that reminded me of the rap queens of the 90s and 00s a part of me wanted to emulate. They were also something that the white, unqueer, stuffy and corporate environments I worked in forbade. But now, working jobs I believe in, with a community that loves me, I can be the outrageously glamorous femme in a muted wardrobe with hoop earrings big as I can manage.

a story about a dress
TW: Internalised transphobia
Lex stepped out of the car, and all they could think about was Andy’s eyes when he saw them in the dress, and it had taken them so long to find the perfect one. Shimmering black, like Andy’s eyes. Like the night sky on fire. It had… cost a lot. But it was worth it.
Lex turned, and there he was, standing in his suit, and he was frozen.
They smiled. Andy didn’t.
“Hey,” Lex said softly. “Surprise?”
He didn’t answer.
“I… I know I’m early, but I wanted to spend time with you before the party.” Lex twisted their hands together, and they’d painted their nails, it had taken them all morning.
He still didn’t answer.
“Andy?” Lex stepped forward, reaching out to him, and he flinched back.
“What the fuck are you wearing?”
“What?”
“You lied to me.” He ran his hands through his hair, and all Lex could do was watch as he gripped fistfulls of it in his knuckles. “You—you lied to me.”
“About what?” Lex demanded. “What did I lie to you about?”
“I told you, I’m not fucking straight. But no, you had to lie, you had to say you were non-binary, and I guess you thought I was far enough gone that you could drop the facade now?”
“What are you talking about?”
“You’re a girl, Lex—or should I say Alexis.”
They flinched, that deadname—the name they hadn’t heard in so long, had never wanted to hear again, and there it was from the mouth of the man they had trusted most. “I’m not a girl.”
“Yeah, right.” He cast a glance, so disgusted, over their dress, their heels, their hair that they’d let down. “And I was born with a penis. God, I knew I was never attracted to you.”
“Andy, what the fuck?” Lex’s shock was still there, but they were beginning to understand, and fury was taking its place. “You think I tricked you into dating me?”
“You did.”
“Why the hell would I do that?”
“Because you’ve clearly been obsessed with me, you—you whore.”
Lex took a breath. Walked forward.
And slapped him.
“I. Am. Not. A. Girl,” they hissed, and they were taller than Andy, it was so easy to push him back. “And the fact that you weren’t attracted to me? That’s you, not me. You’re not obligated to be attracted to me. But don’t you dare fucking say it’s because I am a girl, because I am not and never have been, and I can dress however the hell I want. We were both born with pussies but I guess I’m not trans enough for you, and I don’t care. I’m going to my friend’s party, and you’re no longer invited.”
They looked down at Andy, and he looked scared. Terrified.
But contemptuous.
So Lex simply punched him, and left.
...
Just a reminder--your gender expression doesn't have to have ANYTHING to do with your gender identity. Fuck that shit. Be yourself. You don't have to take transphobia from anyone, even other trans people.

Reviews Needed!
Dear friends, my memoir “Breaking Free; 45 years in the wrong body” could really use reviews to help generate a more substantial online presence. Since signing on with Brainspired Publishing, all the positive reviews on Amazon disappeared, and I’m left with just a new revue that manages to misgender me (I wish I knew how to delete it). It is traumatizing to check on Amazon and see that review.…

-[]-[]-/\-[]-[]- “Being ‘two-spirit’ does not mean we have two spirits,” says Geronimo. To be two-spirit is to be a part of the indigenous queer community that is made up of many different tribes. “The term two-spirit was created by and for Indigenous peoples only in the hopes of creating a safe space where Indigenous queer people can express themselves through their traditional teachings without the threat of culture appropriation and homophobia.” Geronimo considers the idea of “two spirit” to be a sacred place for him and many others but also understands there’s still a lot more to be done to ensure their future.” @geronimo.louie * * * * #twospirit #twospirittuesday #indigenous #nativeamerican #genderidentity #genderexpression #tomboy #2slgbtq #lesbian #genderfluid #reclaimyourpower #ancestors #indigenouspeople #nativeartist #haudenosaunee #mohawktribe #akwesasne (at Akwesasne Mohawk Territory) https://www.instagram.com/p/CnPIM_2LrrP/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Glittering 🕯in the Dark
I am woman, hear me roar
But to my family, I'm nothing more
Than a boy in a dress, a freak they ignore
Misgendered, deadnamed, disrespected to the core
I've shed my old skin, my identity reclaimed
But their narrow minds cannot be tamed
They spew their hate, their ignorance unashamed
And I am left feeling small, insignificant, and pained
Why can't they see me for who I am?
A woman, deserving of love and respect, not a sham
Their refusal to acknowledge me is a cruel scam
But I refuse to let their hate drown out my glam
I am fierce, I am beautiful, I am brave
And I will not let their bigotry be my grave
I will rise above, I will find my own way
And I will not let them dim my shining ray
For I am a woman, strong and true
And I refuse to let anyone dim my hue
I will stand tall, I will make my debut
And I will not let their hate define what I pursue

Are you a parent/primary guardian with a child between the ages of 3 and 6? Do you want to better understand gender expression and how to discuss it with your child?
If you answered yes to both questions, you might be eligible to participate in an IRB-approved research project that is designed to determine if graphic design interventions, such as a website and children’s book, can promote an understanding of gender expression and empathy toward diverse expressions.
Participants must be willing to be recorded.
You and your child will be asked to participate in a few brief surveys, read designed materials about gender expression, and discuss gender topics together. Benefits include the potential increase in understanding and acceptance of differing personal expressions by yourself and your child as they age.
