I will always be somewhat angry that the US gay marriage debate overwhelmingly focused on "well actually the Bible DOES support homosexuality!" instead of "your religion should not dictate whether I have the legal rights granted by marriage"

one of my most favorite pet peeves is when someone talks about an old edgy game and is like "its a shame because you couldn't just make that nowdays it would NEVER have been allowed its a shame how we've fallen" but like you get to look at them in comparison to things we have now that are actively even more grusome than ever. People say manhunt couldn't be released today because its too brutal but then the last of us has some extra brutal executions too, and don't even get me started on how the MK series is nowadays. "they would have to censor the story so heavily today so im glad [blank] came out years ago" they say, as some weren't already censored to tone it down- a perfect example of that is always going to be Twisted Metal Black where they changed up Raven's, Dollface's, Agent Stone's, Preacher's, John Doe's story to simmer them all down and lighten the blow, expunging certain levels ambient sounds because the implications of domestic violence, and the changing of No-face's surgical cutscene to make it not as explicitly nasty and meanwhile modern games have been actively stepping it up to be even worse.

"Games are just too prudish nowdays we couldnt even get another ghostly desires LOL" and meanwhile the front page to steam is literally littered with hentai games. that do not hide the lewd and raunchy screenshots. sometimes its a freshly creampied pussy in your face. yeah that. Im sorry but there's so much god damn porn games that are available to buy and some of it is mainstream even (Huniepop for instance).

Back in the day NightTrap was rated as an Adult game. Now? It's T for teen because how tame it kinda is. We're not as prudish or pearlclutchy on literally any of these points as we used to be and thank fucking god for that- but literally take off the nostolgia goggles cause its fuckin blinding you sweetie

funniest thing about my rich grandma before that side of the family kicked me out is that she used to take me to musicals A Lot, but she never wanted me to like the ones she didn’t like. which was mostly just phantom of the opera. but i was a weird little kid and she took me to see wicked and cats Once, and id never stop begging to see them again even though she clearly hated them and regretted having brought me to them at all.

Rotating JJerusalem AU Francetto at the highest speed in my head, because Francesco values Dolcetto for seeing through all the class and order bullshit and values him as someone who is intellectually of his rank and who he will defend and behind closed doors treat as an equal, but it IS still medieval times and Francesco values his head upon his shoulders, so he also never openly challenges the social order nor would Dolcetto ever dream to suggest something like that. And Francesco expresses his affection also partly by reassuring Dolcetto of his high and deserved status.

Like, people outside the dominant social system have always existed and putting them back into the world via historical fiction, acknowledging that we haven't heard of them because they survived by being lowkey, is fun! It is not necessarily an ahistorical modern point of view if done right. But I just think that also trying to incorporate a worldview that is as similiar to ours as it is different can be a lot of fun in fiction.

feel like with the amount of writing i want to do about this show i should just crib the vulture review format and write up fully graded, serious recaps. anyway im on 2x04 now and it is like...the whiplash throughout what is in many ways a filler episode like yes they are advancing the plot but mostly isobel is trying to make the diner instagrammable to the absolute bafflement of liz’s dad, liz and kyle are stealing equipment from his job and fake making out in a closet and bumping into a new alien nobody knows about that he just thinks is some weird chick at work, and michael and alex are attempting Platonic Bros Hardy Boys Time and climbing fences (michael: effortlessly, like a guy in an orville peck song) (alex: understandably badly. christ dude do you want a hand) and running into a guy with a suspiciously unassuming unrelatedness to the plot who seems specifically designed to appeal to alex’s long-buried scene boy sensibilities. and then in the middle of filler episode nonsense there’s a scene where like. michael sees one of those height markers that people do with their kids and assumes it’s some kind of esoteric code because he has never seen that before in his life. not because it’s an alien custom (his mom who had been on earth for a single year knew what that was) but because he has no memories before the age of seven and after that time just never had anyone in his childhood do anything as simple as make a note of his growth . even the guy whose dad spent his entire parenting career trying to groom his offspring into carbon copies of himself for the glory of the american military industrial complex marked their heights . and you’re like oh that is very heartbreaking. oh and that dad is possibly trying to get his hands on a bioweapon that is specifically capable of wiping out entire demographics and it's not hard to guess what he'd point it toward first. and there are flashbacks tinted in the warm, saturated tones of a feel-good family movie from the nineties, complete with a caring single father figure and a spunky kid, but you already know how it ends and it ends in such pain. oh and isobel, in an attempt to help rosa’s re-integration into the world (and more importantly, her family), stumbles upon one of rosa and arturo’s worst fights while looking around in his brain, and is like oh, this is a job for an Influencer, and all he wants is to be forgiven for what he considers his greatest failure as a parent, and maybe a miracle can be constructed to give him that, and maybe it’s not that, cannot be that, simple. and seventy years ago, nora’s idyllic year recovering from the crash that left her stranded on an unknown planet, hiding out with her friend and her friend’s human lover, unable to even know if it would ever be an environment safe enough to consider bringing her child into, is cut short and she is separated even from those few loved ones and imprisoned for the rest of her life and won’t see her son again until the day she dies

i so badly want to tell you guys who conor ends up with in path of the heroes and gush ab them... i'm thinking ab them again and i just love them so dearly... but i have several big posts that need to come first and aaaaaaahh.

I'm really loving the nuance heartstopper is taking wrt Nick coming out. I think it's hard if you're someone's who's out to be with someone who is still trying to figure it out and come out themselves. One of the one hand, everyone has the right to come out on their own terms. But on the other side, it's not fair to expect someone who did already come out (especially considering how Charlie dealt with a lot of bullying when he came out; and still deals with a lot of shit because he's gay) to essentially have to go back in the closet.

And it also doesn't seem fair for the two to have to break up or not date while the one in the closet figures it out. Especially when they're in hs and it's not that hard!

It's not a black and white issue and I really appreciate that heartstopper is taking the time to explore it. I'm only on episode three, but when Charlie suggests they "hold off" on Nick's coming out plans, I immediately thought of Ben and thought "No, Charlie, don't do this again." Charlie is setting himself up for hurt, but he's doing it to try to be supportive of Nick. It's a really hard position for a kid his age to be in. Poor kids.
