So I harvested some of the garlic scapes this morning. It was such a great addition to the Pad Thai we had for lunch.

I went ahead and harvested all the garlic scapes that were ready!! (which was pretty much all of them)

A little upset because we had our roof redone the past two days and the roofers dropped stuff on my garlic plants and broke a bunch of the leaves (one garlic was pretty much squashed into the ground). I get it’s a tough job and throwing things off the roof is how it’s done but couldn’t they have just avoided the six feet where my garlic bed was???? It was the only bed close to the house, like cmon

My friend brought be pickled garlic scapes as a souvenir from her trip to New York, because she's a wonderful person.

Because I'm a terrible person I just said 'SCAPES FROM NEW YORK' and laughed for 5 hours.

Garlic scapes are the shoot that comes from hardneck garlic, growing up from the stalk and twirling up to a point. Scapes typically appear a month or so before garlic bulbs are ready for harvest, and offer a fresh garlic taste while you’re waiting for the bulbs to fully mature. To harvest, simply snap the scapes at their base. GARLIC SCAPE AND ALMOND PESTO

Ingredients:

10 garlic scapes, finely chopped

1/3 to 1/2 cup finely grated Parmesan (to taste and texture)

1/3 cup slivered almonds (you could toast them lightly, if you’d like)

About 1/2 cup olive oil

Sea salt

Put the scapes, 1/3 cup of the cheese, almonds and half the olive oil in the bowl of a food processor (or use a blender or a mortar and pestle). Whir to chop and blend all the ingredients and then add the remainder of the oil and, if you want, more cheese. If you like the texture, stop; if you’d like it a little thinner, add some more oil. Season with salt.
