Apparently if you find a tagged Horseshoe crab and report it to Fish and Wildlife they’ll send you a certificate with info about your crab AND a pewter horseshoe crab pin! Keep your eyes peeled 👀

(Slight Trigger Warning. Depression)
Tumblr media
No one could hear the screams of the frustration, anger, the hurt that cruses through her. The tears that had once fallen from her eyes now mixes with the water. She had not gone to her tent after her and Dice had parted ways, instead she had gone to the one place that had always brought her some peace.
Her body breaks the surface of the water as she gasps for air, her lungs burned after being denied air for so long. She stands there as goosebumps dances across her sun kissed skin. The coldness of the water, the cool desert breeze helped to numb her already broken thoughts. She stood like this for a while, just allowing all that had happen that night wash away down the river.
Tumblr media
Why had she made things awkward? A simple action on her part, a question, had turned the once fun night into an awkwardness. Once more she had earned the reprehend of Dice's displeasure. And yet at the same time the gentle touch of his fingers while brushing a few strands of hair from her face, his kind words after. How could one man confuse her so much.
"You very much so wear your heart on your sleeve, and that is a rare trait to possess. Don't ever feel in a bad way about that." Light was she that bad? He said not to feel bad about it, and yet she felt it was becoming her downfall. She walks to the shore of the river and picks up a towel, drying herself off as she walks over to a simple blanket. Sitting down cross legged, she dry's her hair.
Tumblr media
She was tired, frustrated, hurting, confused. Her words brought awkwardness, her lack of understanding terms got her into more trouble then anything. The towel falls to the ground next to her as she just sits there. That numbness settling deep in her core. She was tired of hoping, yet she craved a touch, anything. She looks down at her hands. Was she a lost cause? Was she to damaged? No matter how hard she tried, would she always mess things up?
Pulling her knees to her chest, wrapping her arms around them as she rests her chin on them as she looks across the river. The light that had been burning so bright slowly dims. Eyes close as she shook, tears falling down her cheeks. The sun would be raising before Kai stood and gathered her things. She takes one last look out over the river, before turning and heading back to her tent to pack.

Halloween Hijinks
1.
“You can’t buy candy corn for trick or treaters!” Bianca exclaimed, as she snatched the bowl of candy from Sephiroth’s hands. She clutched the bowl, not wanting to return it to Sephiroth and his bad candy. “That’s the fruitcake of Halloween!”
This was her first Halloween since fate transported her from Earth to Gaia, and it was her favorite holiday. The celebration was among the things that she missed most about her home world. She didn’t know why dressing up in a costume meant so much to her, but it did.
It’s the perfect night to be my true self. During Halloween, Bianca had no one demand of her to bind her wings or wear normal color contacts to hide the color of her eyes. She could simply exist in her skin and none would judge her. They’d simply compliment her realistic costume.
In exchange, Bianca loved to serve only the best treats to visiting trick or treaters. She was the house that gave out full-size candy bars, making sure that her home would be well-remembered by the kids.
“You doubt me?” Sephiroth stared at her and crossed his arms, raising an eyebrow. His lips curled into a faint smile, which dissipated quickly and made Bianca wonder if it was even there. “It’s sweet and comes in three colors.”
Bianca’s ebony wings rested against her back as she stared down at the bowl of candy. The candy corn pieces seemed never-ending and kept appearing.
“Candy corn doesn’t taste sweet,” Bianca went to the metal cupboard, opened it, and retrieve several packages of full-sized Shinra Caramel Fusion, Peanut Blast, and Marshmallow Delight. “It tastes like sadness and tears.”
“Sadness and tears?” Sephiroth tilted his head. “But candy corn tastes sweet. It’s the quintessential Halloween candy.”
“And fruitcake is the quintessential Christmas food. Yet no one likes to receive fruitcake, and no one likes to receive candy corn. I think you are the only one who likes candy corn — and, of course, old people.”

Calling all Floridian environmentalists!!!
i just checked my email which i never do which is why i missed all of dracula daily last year but that’s not the point and i got this plea from hernando county FNPS (florida native plant society)
Tumblr media
weeki wachee state park (famous in earlier decades for its mermaid show) contains an unfathomably beautiful stretch of untouched wetland sandwiched between the ever-expanding suburbs of gulf-coast central florida. or almost untouched. it’s an active recreation area with catwalks, hiking trails, and boat ramps. boat mooring damages our ever-dwindling eelgrass beds, a horrible blow to our struggling manatee population. boating also creates pollution and transports invasives (booooo), not to mention the noise pollution (i think every person in hernando may own an airboat. going to the only beach in that county is miserable (for a lot of reasons)).
hernando county submitted a proposal for a Spring Protection Zone to prohibit boat mooring, grounding, and anchoring in these precious areas. FWC wants to reduce the protection area to appease boaters.
we need to email the commission before they make a decision by monday, 5/8/23
Tumblr media
it’s an uphill struggle trying to protect florida from its inhabitants. please help by signal-boosting this and emailing [email protected] to protect an irreplaceable sliver of our ecological inheritance.
thank you

Dance the Night Away
The thumping bass served as encouragement to put one foot in front of the other, lulling her deeper into the sprawling room underneath the dam that served as the after party for the World’s Faire Carnival. It was later than she liked to go out, but it had been so long since she enjoyed a rave. It was such a good way to get her out of her own thoughts, and bring her to a more primal state of being where all that existed was her and the music.
There was more than just the appeal of dancing tonight. She knew Dicenne would be there, and deeply desired to catch up with him, even if it was just a casual inquiry about his wellbeing. Their relationship had been inextricably linked with dances and raves, and it almost felt like taking a step back to when it was all so intoxicating and new, when hands and lips roved over sweaty skin in the middle of a crowd of people and flashing lights.
Things were more complicated now.
The crowd was the biggest she had experienced yet. People pressed close from all sides, and she had to turn sideways and slip through small gaps between people dressed in costumes with wings and feathers and all manner of sharp bones and sticks and even branchlike boughs. Her own outfit was skimpy, but she’d been to enough raves to know that you didn’t want to wear too much when you were going to be doing the equivalent of cardiovascular exercise.
This was overwhelming. She was utterly lost in the crowd and didn’t recognize anyone. But then the crowd parted just briefly and she caught sight of a familiar white-haired female dancing up on… a pedestal? No, a giant piece of art. She waved to Sana, who waved back, and they danced together for a while before they both decided to move off and try to find some of the Tarts.
Dyra tried to follow Sana, keeping herself close enough to the elf to touch, but when some drunken dancer bumped into Dyra, she lost sight of Sana and stood uncertainly in the crowd, peering around to try and find her again. Despite normally being fine with crowds, even she felt a little bit of panic as her gaze swept the bobbing, writhing dancers to find Sana again. Don’t panic. Don’t panic.
It felt like hours, but it was probably only a minute later that she saw Sana emerge from the crowd again and guide Dyra to a place near the stage where she recognized some of her fellow Tarts dancing. She sorely wished that she had pre-gamed before the event so she didn’t feel so uptight. But her friends were there now, and it would all be okay. Then she saw him, dancing in an Emerald Dream themed costume, the wild lights sparkling off his hair. Her breath caught as he held her gaze and smiled.
“Hi,” was all she managed, but even that was said so low and the music was so loud that she was unsure if he heard her.
The music was loud and the beat prompted all of them to dance. It was wild. There was glitter and magic and people magically morphed into different shapes. Magical trees bloomed in the middle of the floor. It was utter chaos, and Dyra was having the time of her life. She didn’t even need drugs or alcohol; the beat was enough to carry her into a state of euphoria. Her hips rolled and she raised her hands to the sky, in thrall to the music as if a strange dominant force compelled her to move her body without a second thought. But Dicenne’s presence was like a magnet that drew her eyes, and she vowed that she would not leave without having a chance to talk to him. She started moving in that direction and narrowly avoided colliding with a soft female body. It was Kaisina. The woman had either knowingly or unknowingly cut her off on her path to Dicenne, and Dyra tried to recover, spinning off as if she’d intended to seek a spot near someone else, an unknown night elf. She couldn’t help but feel a little awkward as she watched Kai flirt with Dicenne.
She tried not to watch. Surely, Kai must be drunk or high to so blatantly flirt with the man that Dyra had so recently cried over. The one man Kai knew she was struggling to let go. That wasn’t what friends did to each other. Unless she wasn’t Dyra’s friend at all, and this was a purposeful move to show Dyra that Dicenne was over her. Dyra felt the bitter twist of jealousy in her gut for the first time ever. She had borne witness to multiple flirtations Dicenne; he was popular, and incredibly sexy and desired by countless individuals and it had never once bothered her. She didn’t have any sort of claim on him and would never dream of limiting his pursuits of other people. They weren’t even in a relationship right now. So why did it bother her?
Why? Dyra danced half-heartedly as she watched the two of them, seeing them speaking but unable to hear what was said. She turned her back on them as she rotated in a spin and just sat with her feelings for a moment. What the fuck is happening to me?
She had to be honest with herself, at least. It hurt that her friend who was just comforting her days ago would swoop in and go after the one she loved. It didn’t bother her necessarily that she was going after Dicenne, because he was free to do as he pleased. What bothered her was that she was doing it right in front of Dyra. After pretending to care about her feelings. This left a sour taste in her mouth, and she plastered on an easy smile as she continued to dance, but kept her eyes away from that particular area of the dance floor. She so desperately wished there was a giant cake she could accidentally knock Kai into. And, in fact, she was planning some rather petty revenge she could indulge in when Kai asked Dicenne for a kiss, and the world crashed to a halt in Dyra’s mind.
This is it. He’s going to do it and prove that he’s over me. Her palms were sweaty. Well, all of her was sweaty, but her palms felt particularly wet and uncomfortable as she slowly curled her hands into fists at her side.
And then he declined and said it wasn’t the right time. And she couldn’t help but feel his eyes glance to her. She wanted to alternately pump her fist in the air and flip Kai the bird, but felt a little sorry for the way Kai’s eyes fixed themselves to the floor in embarrassment. Well, that was enough awkwardness for one night. Dyra excused herself, but before she could leave, Dicenne had stepped over to her and pulled her into a hug. It just felt right to be back in his arms, and as she nestled in to return the hug, she felt his breath against her ear: “Let’s talk later?” What could she do but nod and smile as they pulled apart, and say back, “I’d like that.” She had to play it cool as she walked away because her heart was beating a million miles a minute.

Hey Y’all Animal Cruelty Warning
I don’t normally do this, but I just found out about something that has my blood boiling. I’ve been a pet owner my whole life—dogs, cats, and more—and have always considered pets to be family. Yes, even the fish I won at a fair; yes, even my chickens; yes, even the snakes.
Snakes can be a controversial pet—a lot of folks find them creepy. That’s perfectly fine, not everyone has to like the same thing. Some states have made owning certain snakes illegal; that’s also fine, assuming they’re doing so for the right reasons and handle it appropriately.
Then there’s Florida. In 2021, it became illegal to own reticulated and Burmese pythons in the state of Florida. This is because of an issue with them acting as an invasive species; due mostly to hurricanes, pet snakes in the wild became feral and were able to breed, resulting in native reptiles struggling to compete and occasionally becoming prey to the pythons.
That still leads to the trouble of persons who had owned pythons legally prior to 2021. Persons who legally owned these snakes before the ban are allowed to retain ownership until the pet’s death. Also, there is an amnesty program in place which allows exotic pet owners to continue caring for their animals until an appropriate home is found—this is run by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, or FWC.
Then this happened. More than thirty snakes were killed with a bolt gun, without anesthesia. Included among them was a boa constrictor named Big Shirl. Boas are not illegal pets. Big Shirl was pregnant at the time of her death—yes, I do mean pregnant, too, as boas give live birth and do not lay external eggs. In this video you can see Big Shirl writhing for several minutes after she was shot; Big Shirl was a beloved pet who had been part of her owner’s family for more than ten years, and as a boa, should have been in his life for at least ten more.
The owner was not present on his property when officers of the FWC came to kill his animals; the video above was taken by a friend who had worked with the owner for years and describes being present for the hatching of every snake they killed. He also had explained about the boa, who they were not to touch—the officers were aware of this, as shown by their own expressions after realizing they’d wrongfully killed Big Shirl. He can be heard on the video, clearly distraught by what was happening.
The video shows that the officer using the bolt gun is untrained and unfamiliar with the device; one officer poses for a picture with one of the snakes they killed, too. The animals are pulled out of their enclosures and shot in the head with the bolt gun without any anesthesia—most reptile vets do not use this method. In fact, snakes can be euthanized the same way a cat or dog can. These animals were slaughtered for no reason other than existing in the wrong place at the wrong time.
I genuinely feel sick. These animals should have been safe—they were in their homes, being actively loved and cared for. I know I would be devastated if this were done to any of my pets—and when I think back on the temperament of the sweet little ball python I was lucky enough to help care for as a child, it makes me sick to think that someone could take such a trusting and loving creature from his safe place and deliver a slow, agonizing death. I just don’t have the words for how upset I am right now.
If any of you have the time, consider calling the people involved with the FWC. If you aren’t comfortable calling, here are all the emails I was able to find:
[email protected] Chief Communications Officer
[email protected] Acting Executive Director
[email protected] Deputy Chief of Staff
[email protected] Chief of Staff
[email protected] Chief Financial Officer
Please, please, please do what you can to help bring this to more people’s attention. Dozens of pets were just cruelly and unethically killed—these people need to understand how wrong what they did was, and they can only learn by being told. The owners and family of these reptiles deserve to know that they are not alone and that they have people who will support them.

Last night in the sands
Tumblr media
(NSFW/Sexual themes below)
What a night! Maybe? She couldn't remember much.
Zio could sleep all day if it wasn't for the hangover she felt taking hold of her head.   Her foot brushed against the leg of another.  With a jerk, she sat up finding herself on the floor of some tent and a person behind her.
She wanted to look, to see who it was, but then she would have to admit this person slept with her.  Slowly, Ziorea stood up.  Her head throbbing from the mix of painkillers, her new stitches, and the many drinks she consumed last night.
Would it be awkward to lift the blanket over the man to see who he was?   She turned around blinking through her pain, when she saw him shift in his sleep.  Panic hit her, unable to find her dress she grabbed the blanket covering him and ran for the tent’s opening.
Squish!!
Her right foot landed on the condom shared between them.  Some gurgling shriek came from inside of her as she shook it off her foot, hopping outside into the soft sunrise.  At that moment Ziorea felt the cool breeze on her skin.  Yeah, she grabbed the blanket but she forgot to wrap it around her.
Her head hung low and hid in the stolen blanket and ran in search of her tent.  She was pretty sure the tent she ran out of didn’t even belong to the person she slept with.
By the time she reached her tent’s flap, Ziorea found herself giggling.  She should have looked to see who it was.  She gave them her V-card after all.

I miss the days gone by,
The comfort in your embrace,
The way you listened with a sigh,
As I poured out my heart's disgrace.
I thought you'd be the one to save,
To untangle all my tangled strands,
But now I'm lost in doubts and waves,
And wondering if you still understand.
I saw you once, a fleeting glimpse,
And felt a rush of memories flow,
But then I thought, "what's the point in this?"
You've moved on, and I'm letting go.
I still write messages, untold,
And dial your number, but don't call,
But maybe it's for the best, I'm told,
That you're free from someone like me after all.
Though things didn't turn out as I planned,
I won't regret the time we had.
A special part of me, you'll always be,
A cherished memory of you and me.
