ok so i just reread nqk front to back and caught up on ch 12 and GOD. I MISSED LEONARDO WAUGH hes still such a wet rag of an old man and i still love him so so much. and leo really getting it in ch 12 and michelangelos excitement. the scene w the unicorn onesies and the cups and when leonardo really finally lets go of his guilt. ough. my beloveds..

And so, here is the promised other doodle of au Donnie.
I suppose I should explain why Shelldon looks and is acting like a child so allow me a moment ✨️
So in this au, Donnie could not rebuild shelldon immediately. Meaning he was not there when the world fell apart and the kraang came.
Even after the kraang invasion, it took about three or more years or so before he was finally able to rebuild him. Granted, the only remaining thing Donatello could salvage from his ai companion was the damaged memory files and chip that made shelldon well shelldon.
The first time Shelldon came back online and acting like a three-four year old, Donnie was absolutely devastated but in the end accepted this. Maybe it was better he does not remember. He doesnt want his son to remember how he died or blame himself for gramgrams death. He wasn't expecting to actually need to filling the father role but here he is. With a robot child.

Hope, happiness, excitement, relief. His heart burst with utmost joy that he couldn’t even fathom the mystery of how Splinter was back from the dead. He didn’t care. Splinter’s back!
“Father!” Leonardo called out and ran at the mutant rat and threw himself to embrace his father.
“Whoa—gotta say, I wasn’t expecting you!”
Leonardo pushed away from the mutant he was hugging, appalled by the voice. That’s not Splinter. That’s not his father. Did he—?
The young mutant looks up, his hope crumbling to pieces the second he sees his elder counterpart. How could he have been so stupid? How could he have mistaken Lee as Splinter? Is he so distraught by his father’s death that any adult mutant standing in this dojo could pass as Splinter?
Leonardo backs up, rubbing his upper arm nervously as he apologizes. “I’m sorry, I thought—you know. No, you don’t know—uh, geez. I didn’t mean to confuse you. —and hug you. —and call you my dad.”
Lee doesn’t look at all affected by Leonardo’s mistake. Instead, the elder smiles down at him, a smile that is near pitying. “Don’t worry about it. I thought you were someone else for a second too. I didn’t think I’d hear someone call me that here.”
