Rings of Power + Tolkien Fusion Meta
Elvish Love, Sex, and the Single Maia
“Elves only love and marry once.”
Yeah, the Laws and Customs of the Eldar (Elves) aren’t this clear-cut. Foremost, Elves reflect Tolkien’s devout Catholic ideal including his strongly held belief in the dangers of unbridled sexuality. Also, Tolkienverse runs on morality and mysticism, not science.
Update: After performing direct research and analysis on Tolkien’s LACE text, I’ve come to new conclusions. I’ve highlighted updates in this post in blue. Otherwise the rest remains aligns and unchanged.
For Elves love =/= marriage. Most unions are love matches but at . However, Tolkien did write about Elves who love yet never wed à la courtly love. Elves that love with our reciprocity, even when married. Moreover, of lusty Elf men who wed Elf maidens with dubious consent gained from questionable means.
But sex complicates things. Elves are monogamous. And it's not just culturally.
Elf sex = marriage = binding. Elf marriage = intent + sex or binding of hröa/body and fëa/spirit. Since Elves are inherently bound to Arda’s fate through their fëa/spirit, marriages are thus eternal.
Most couples have children early in marriage and with each child, their sex drive would diminish. It infers that sex (at least cultural) is viewed as being primarily purposed for begetting of children. Based on that, though not explicitly stated in text, it’s also inferred that “real” sex, that kind that led to bringing, would be was PIV (pen-in-vagina). Perhaps a consolation price strong incentive for eternal monogamy, Elf sex is intensely pleasurable.
For Elves, choosing the right partner critical. Divorce doesn’t exist. More accurately, divorce can’t exist because Elves can’t unfuck-bind themselves. But the Valar, spirit stewards of Arda who favor the Elves, are capable. Otherwise an unhappy Elf couple could lead separate lives, and maybe love others, but not remarry.
Can widowed Elves remarry? In the uncommon event an Elf dies, its spirit is summoned to the Halls of Mandos (aka purgatory). After an unspecified amount of time, the Valar will typically reincarnate them. During this Time of Waiting, both dead and living Elf spouse remain bonded. Upon reincarnation, the formerly dead spouse returns home like returning from a very long trip to the store for bread.
As it stands, the Valar will unbind a widowed Elf’s marriage in these rare events: the dead spouse refuses the summons to Mandos (usually evil Elves), eschews reincarnation like Míriel (Celebrimbor’s great-grandma), or denied the opportunity like Feanor aka “Mr. Fuck the Morgoth, Valar, and Teleri Elves.”
Therefore, in RoP, even if Celeborn were indeed dead, he and Galadriel are still bonded. But look, the way she said, “And you? My king?” sounded thisclose to RISKING IT ALL for power and sitting on Halbrand’s handsome face for eternity.
Asking for a friend: Can Maiar and Elves “marry”? Yes, with ample space for speculation and theory
The only canon union between a Maia and Child of Iluvatar (Elves and Men) was Melian and High-King Thingol. They begot Luthien, a powerful Elf and fairest Maiden ever. She even once beat Sauron in a duel.
Maiar are disembodied Eälar or spirits that contrasted with fëar/spirits of Elves and Men. Halbrand is Sauron’s fana/physical form he can change like clothes. But far as an Maia-Elf marriage aka sexy times goes, it’s unclear if it’s inferred binding is like Elven marriage because begetting children requires mutual intention to impart each parent’s spirit to the child. But either way, it doesn’t provoke any mystical moral cockblocking.
Well, one thing is clear: Melian literally fucked around, begot Luthien, and found out such activity had a side effect. She became permanently bonded to her fana. Donning a new fana requires the death of the bonded fana. To note, even though Melian bonded to an Elven fana, she retained her Maia spirit class.
What if Thingol had an Elven wife in the Halls of Mandos? Understand that Elves live on Middle-Earth to guide Men toward a righteous path. Elves and Maiar cucking dead Elf spouses certainly defies Tolkien’s “ideal devout Catholic” behavior. Assuredly he’d invent some mystical punishment to reenforce monogamy. Perhaps even Valar intervention but if they let Morgoth and Sauron run wild, I doubt it. But without precedence, it can only be speculated.
But renegade Maiar like Melian and Sauron do not give a FUCK nor need the Valar’s approval. If they want to fuck elves, THEY WILL FUCK ELVES.
Thus, irrespective of likelihood, conscience, or wisdom, no laws bar love and/or sex between Galadriel and Sauron. Platonic besties, chaste courtly love, or cucking Celeborn to the end of Arda - do you, you crazy kids. Since she is still married to, the closet thing to binding with Sauron would be with a 3rd party conduit and magic. Like a blood oath. Or rings of power (teehee).
Many challenges exist to a productive Galadriel and Sauron union beyond the metaphysical. And the most awkward would follow her spirit husband’s reincarnation. Imagine Celeborn discovering Morgoth’s first lieutenant has been railing his wife for centuries (now that’s a good fanfic prompt).
Thank you for reading! Your likes and reblogs are appreciated. Got feedback?
What did you like? Got theories or insights to share?
Disagree? I love good faith debate and sparring!
Something not quite making sense? Got feedback on readability?
Spot an inaccuracy? Hey, Tolkien's work is complex. Drop it in comments or DM.

Evertime someone said Danny going evil in TUE Is what Vlad wanted . I will personally go there and kick your ass.
Vlad dont want Danny on his side to be evil, he want Danny on his side to rub it over Jack that Jack is such a horrible that his own son leave him for Vlad .
To Danny Vlad is evil caused ,Vlad is doing all sort of ridiculous thing trying to break Danny family apart. Like both of the fenton kid even knew that their parent relationship are not all smooth sailing seeing prisoner of love , or chrismas episode, the fear of their parent getting divorced are a real.
So that why going to the vlad side mean going to the evil side to him.
But here is one key thing Vlad is doing this caused of Maddie and Jack. The idea of having Danny as his son and progete is just a bonus. When you removed both Jack and Maddie out of the equation due to a freak accident that is not caused by Vlad.... Vlad didn't even get his revenge....They just gone just like that....
Both Vlad and Danny lose their define factor on moral scale. Danny is good caused Danny protect his family. Vlad is bad caused Vlad is trying to break danny family.
What left is one man and one child, mourning, lost ,broken standing at the crossroad together.
The lost of some one close can change a person alots in such a short time.
And whiles Vlad come out of it wanting to be a better person for Danny. To take care of all that remain of his two old friend. Doing what ever it take to see Danny one day happy thriving again.
Danny however.... losing his whole world in such a short time is too much for a kid to handle.. He fall down and unable to get up.... it not fair. It not fair.
And one thing lead to the next And next thing you know Dan is born. From the ghost of Vlad who Just want to be strong protect Danny from being hurt ever again, to see Danny thriving again disaeaped into the fusion to lifted Phantom up. The soul of a sad and broken kid, who is mad at the world for being so unfair to him, for treating him like an evil vermin eventhought he is sacrificing his sleep and future to keep everyone safe, for taking his family away just caused of one small mistake....mad at himself for being too weak to protect anything...
If a child didnt feel the warm of the village it was born from. It will burn the village down just to feel it warm.

ok your eclectic multi ship ao3 wrapped post made me wonder — if you could mash up any two f1 fics to make a crazy fusion fic, which two would you choose and what would your frankenfic be like?
em! beautiful em sends a beautiful ask, what a great question!!! so after much thought and staring holes into my bookmarks and essentially playing combinatorics and having at least 4 different ideas id REALLY love to read, i picked what id probably be the most interested in (came between this one and the hetcedes performance coach girl!lewis and f1 driver nico full of catholic guilt and miscommunication👀)
i have a deeply rooted dream of reading a maxiel future fic where they never got together up until later when daniel is a few years into retirement and max has a bazillion championships, then they finally get real when they do either race of champions or le mans together (soft spot for le mans bc they could be teammates). that being said, i thought of rabits are chasing by cloudsandpassingevents which is sort of a retirees sewis getting together/solving internal conflicts during le mans with nico there as well playing The Ex for scenery/plot AND deep inside ever the spinning by misonikomi for ship dynamics bc there’s a heavy hand of resigned/shell of his former self daniel in this and like at the same time longing for when he thought he had the upper hand in his complicationship with max even tho in reality it was always max who did, one way or another (which is my favorite dynamic and like?? lore???? imo). so like lets say divorced max is kinda moping and(really like this in fic as well) freshly retired from f1 with this crazy ass record breaking career etc etc and daniel is a few years into retirement (hot retiree bod btw) and okay with the way he recovered his reputation in at/rbr after the mclaren horrors but deep inside kinda sad that he’s like single and didn’t win a championship like a proper🚨40 something millionaire crisis🚨 and max sort of grieving over leaving f1 even tho it was very much his choice and the end of his previous relationship. so yeah they basically find answers for dick sucking between teammates, second chances, life accomplishments -or the lack of- and the finitude of everything in life or whatever through endurance racing together (something to be said about them being teammates but like not having to compete against each other and how that is a quintessential part of their history etc etc)! and gay sex! id love that a lot, and of course they win le mans bc duh
bonus points if they had a little moment during their rbr days but buried it 30 feet into the ground inside the internalized homophobia casket and almost got together after daniel moved to renault and kinda had a fall out at some point when daniel got a boyfriend and max was married and very much confused

Every so often I remember how hard film soundtracks went in the mid 90s with some truly bonkers and delightful fusion albums. My two favourites examples are Batman Forever and A Life Less Ordinary. Batman Forever features:
Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me - U2
One Time Too Many - PJ Harvey
Where Are You Now? - Brandy
Kiss from a Rose - Seal
The Hunter Gets Captured by the Game - Massive Attack and Tracey Thorn (The Marvelettes cover)
Nobody Lives Without Love - Eddi Reader
Tell Me Now - Mazzy Star
Smash It Up - the Offspring (The Damned cover)
There Is a Light- Nick Cave
The Riddler - Method Man
The Passenger - Michael Hutchence (Iggy Pop cover)
Crossing the River - the Devlins
8 - Sunny Day Real Estate
Bad Days - the Flaming Lips
I've owned this soundtrack since 1995 and I still listen to it regularly. Special should out to The Passenger. Michael Hutchence was a legend.
A Life Less Ordinary is even less well-known. It's such a bonkers little film, where a pair of deranged angels (played by Holly Hunter and Delroy Lindo) are sent to fiddle around with the love lives of a pair of disparate humans (Cameron Diaz and Ewan McGregor). And this is the soundtrack:
Dead Weight - Beck
Love Is Here - Luscious Jackson
Life Less Ordinary - Ash
Velvet Divorce - Sneaker Pimps
Kingdom of Lies - Folk Implosion
Leave [New Version] - R.E.M.
Don't Leave - Faithless
Oh - Underworld
It's War - The Cardigans
Always on My Mind - Elvis Presley
Peace in the Valley - Alabama 3 Lis
Beyond the Sea - Bobby Darin
Put a Lid on It - Squirrel Nut Zippers
Deeper River - Dusted
Full Throttle - The Prodigy
They're both such solid but such fully weird combinations of songs and I love them.

gert's random fusion aus: pushing daisies
sorry, i just realized i never explained what "pushing daisies" is, and while i'm not going to give the full run-down of every relevant detail--you will find this more compelling if you've seen it/are familiar with it--i'll give the basics real fast. ned is a piemaker who can bring back the dead with a single touch--and kill them again with another. the problem is, if they're alive again for more than a minute, someone else will die in their place. he found this out in the most traumatizing fucked up way possible btw. anyway, his best friend is PI emerson cod, with whom he investigates bizarre murders as, you know, they can interrogate the victim. albeit for one (1) minute only. and then ned brings back his childhood sweetheart/crush, inadvertently killing a corrupt graverobbing funeral director, and they fall in love again--with the caveat, of course, that they can never touch, because if he ever touches her again, she'll die. cue cute shit like kissing though plastic wrap and having clear walls on their bed (?) and that kind of thing. since she's still legally dead, she tries to help her aunts from afar, who have been shut-ins for a while, and there's some other stuff going on too with a waitress in love with ned (olive my beloved), emerson cod's ex-wives (and a child!), and a mystery from ned's past. i think that's all the basics? anyway, on with the show.
Trent Crimm is a journalist, so perhaps it isn’t surprising when he’s murdered. He dies alone, and afraid, and with no one to care. And then he wakes up with Ted Lasso peering down at him, worried, with soft, kind eyes Trent hasn’t seen since he was a teenager. Who knew that his schoolyard sweetheart could bring back the dead? Certainly not Trent. (Although his college friend, Beard, now a private investigator, apparently very much did.)
Now Trent, still legally dead, has to deal with, among other things: the trauma of his murder and identity of his murderer, his ex-wife and daughter (who still think he is dead, and he secretly suspects might be better off without him, even though he misses his daughter dearly), his growing feelings for a man he can never touch again, his father, and also, you know, all the bizarre murders he, Ted, and Beard are roped into investigating.
Also see: Ted struggling with depression, divorce, fatherhood, baking, and his own past (including a dreadful secret he is keeping from Trent), Beard struggling with a femme fatale to his noir detective, and whatever the hell Roy, Keeley, and Jamie are doing in the background with their synchronized swimming act.
Some notes:
Rupert is almost certainly the one who killed Trent, or had him killed. For, you know, knowing things he shouldn't; looking into things he shouldn't, etc. Half wondering if Rebecca should be involved--not as in she helped kill him, but as in she found out about it or was unwillingly involved--because that could make things even more deliciously complicated.
Ted and baking and building community--whether biscuits or pie, charming everyone he meets
(Trent was poisoned, by the way. So that baking thing. Oh boy.)
I do have a lot of feelings about Trent dying alone and being terrified of that happening again even though he refuses to admit it and keeps a cool and steady facade. Cue Ted getting him to be emotionally vulnerable, and also bonding with Beard at a point where they're trapped together in a situation that could kill them.
Ted and Trent's whole dance around each other only gets more exceedingly complicated, because Ted inadvertently broke his heart a decade or two ago, and now he's brought Trent back from the actual dead. Mixed signals, maybe. Regardless, they are very sweet and wholesome 90 percent of the time.
Thinking about that scene where Ned and Chuck dance on the rooftop in beekeepers outfits--Trent trying to find ways to fill the time now that he can't exactly be a journalist, and while he does end up throwing himself into helping Ted and Beard with their cases--he has his own relevant skills, after all--as well as trying to take care of his child and ex-wife from afar, he can't do that all the time: and Ted has bees on the roof, for the honey.
And also just again, them slow dancing like that. ough.
The whole thing with Trent's ex and daughter I'm not married to (haha) considering I don't think he'd actually leave his daughter thinking he's dead (and I think Ted would not be okay with that, too, for obvious reasons) however I'm not sure how else to handle it and I'm also thinking about him genuinely wondering if they're better off without him and then at some point, of course, them finding out, and. painful emotional growth ensues
Ted is also struggling with his own divorce and kid, because he has secrets and he's kind of terrified that Henry will have his ability, or something similar, even though there have been no signs of it so far. He hadn't planned on having kids, and while he could never regret Henry he's scared of what kind of father he'll be and what kind of damage his secret could do.
I'm not gonna lie, the last line of the summary about roy, keeley, and jamie was a bit of a Silly on my part, so I'm not sure if it would have become something, but I do have ideas running in circles in my brain. Something something, working together, triangles are the strongest shape, something something, practicing and being the best you can be?
Episodic format with case-of-the-weeks involving the other characters, such as the players, Rebecca, etc?
I admit, while part of what makes Pushing Daisies compelling is the tragic impossibility of Ned and Chuck's situation and also the complete non-explanation for how, exactly, Ned got to be Like This, I'm a sucker for a fix-it, and some ideas included: Ted giving up his gift (and dealing with the pain it's caused him and not being "useful", that he's worth more than this gift) OR just. really rotating a scene in my head where for [waves hands] plot reasons Ted knows he has to touch Trent again, let him die again (to bring him back? to stop something terrible? because they've learned something about the origins of Ted's ability?) and just. Trent's near tears but in that smiling this has to happen way, and Ted--Ted gets to kiss him, for real, with no plastic wrap between them, just once, and then Trent crumples in his arms and Ted is just. devastated. Now the question is, does he wake up, or is there another way to bring him back?
(This also works so painfully with "Trent being afraid of dying alone again" because... he doesn't. He dies in Ted's arms, surrounded by friends who will miss him.)
Also thought about this ability being connected to Ted's... Issues(TM), namely his forced positivity and repressed depression and shit but that's kind of soup brain right now
ALSO SEE! Beard and Jane have some fucked up shit going on in the background that eventually gets resolved. Beard occasionally slips into noir detective mode, just like Ted and Trent occasionally slip into romcom mode, despite the fact they're all living in vividly colorful murder mystery bizarro world.
I considered Nate as Olive, albeit in a rather different way, but it doesn't quite fit. Also see Rebecca as someone who hires them under false pretenses but then, ah. doesn't?
Ted and his immortal dog he can't actually pet, please
ALTERNATE TAKES:
Trent is a journalist who can bring back the dead for exactly one minute. It’s extremely useful in his line of work, until he comes across the unattended body of the man he fell in love with over a decade ago, and unfortunately, cannot resist temptation. Possibly featuring Roy Kent as a detective he reluctantly assists, because I find that to be a particularly funny duo.
Ted brings back his best friend from the dead. Trent Crimm, investigative journalist, finds out about his ability and decides to do nothing about it. I find this one compelling despite it not being very fleshed out because I just think Trent finding out a very important secret and deciding not to reveal it, and not even use it, even though it could be very useful, and then he ends up befriending Ted anyway and Ted offers to help... meanwhile Ted and Beard are having their own issues w--wait actually. Wait. I just considered. This... this doesn't really fit with the OG Pushing Daisies but it could be compelling regardless. Ted brings back Michelle, and while she's grateful (because, you know, Henry) it fucks up their relationship even further, especially because they can't touch anymore, and while she's not exactly asking him to undo it she didn't ask to be brought back, either. ANYWAY. And Trent and Ted getting into shenanigans. And probably Beard, too, anyway.
Alternatively, something about Roy as Ned and Keeley as Chuck and possibly Jamie as either Emerson Cod or Olive is.... hmmm.... interesting
idk i'll probably have more thoughts on this later but!!! here you go. this au is too big and complicated in my brain to likely ever get a proper full-sized fic, unless i really get hit with an inspiration whammy, but i might write a few snippets. we'll see

TMA for ask game?
Yesssss
Favorite character: Jonathan Sims babbeyyy
Second favorite character: Elias Bouchard <33 (very close to also being my favorite though)
Least favorite character: Basira >:( she's very interesting but holy shit I think I'd kill her if she was real, it's on sight
The character I'm most like: probably Jonathan but a little Martin too, I'm their fusion
Favorite pairing: JonElias but Jmart is pretty close
Least favorite pairing: Maybe PeterElias? I just don't really care for it except for the divorce fics
Favorite moment: there's a lot of good moments. I like episode 30 Killing Floor a lot, brutal pipe murder, eating my computer crunch crunch crunch, everyone accusing Elias of murder and he's like "I did do that and I also own you sign here pls :)", Elias torturing Melanie, Elias torturing Martin, Jon reading The Statement, that episode with the creepy reverse gaslighting doctor
Rating out of 10: TMA is a hard 4/10 for me. There's a lot of good stuff in there, characters, world building, anthology stories. But I left it feeling overwhelmingly negative and disappointed about the whole thing. Espeeeciiallyly with the whole stupid monster/human dichotomy the narrative legitimizes. It's so insufferable. I think the ending could even stay the same if they at least did something more with the themes (that THEY put in) about how fear affects people. But in the end it feels so "when people don't get what they need then bad outcomes happen" and it's like ooohh no way, no shit really? Nooo you're kidding, whaat? It's a complete nothingburger. Like I'm not sure how I was supposed to feel about it idk what their goal was. As a failure tma is fantastic

20 Questions for Fanfic Writers
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
13 (current penname)
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
122,174 (current penname)
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Under my current penname: Marvel/MCU, Stargate SG-1 & Atlantis, and Miraculous Ladybug--but I have ideas for fics in other fandoms!
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Eidetic Image (T) Marvel
The Stand-In (G) Marvel - Stony
How to Avoid Thinking (E) Marvel - IronHawk
You Wanna Go (on a Date with Me)?! (T) Marvel - Stony
Change is All (T) - SG-1
5. Do you respond to comments? Why? Why not?
Yes, absolutely. That said, it can occasionally take me months to do so, especially on my older works, because I leave them in my inbox and hoard them like a dragon because they make me so happy.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I really should write more angst, tbh... that said, the only fic I currently have that can really be called angsty and ends without a happy ending is Worse Than Myth.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
I would say Eidetic Image has a happy ending, if you don't count the teaser/cliffhanger that is the epilogue. Otherwise probably Change is All?
8. Do you get hate on fics?
I've been writing fanfiction in some form for 20+ years and posting for nearly as long, so I've definitely gotten a few hate comments over the years, but nothing on any of my recent stuff. In part because I'm not that known, probably.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Yes, and it really depends on the muse.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
I don't really write any crazy crossovers, although technically, most of my Marvel fics are a fusion of various Marvel sources (MCU, 616, etc.) and I've also got a crossover between SG-1 and Atlantis, but they're really the same fandom families and don't really count as real crossovers, imo.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not to my knowledge and it's my hope that I never do.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
I had several translated under my previous penname, but none of my recent stuff; I've divorced myself from the fandom in question.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Under a previous penname, yes.
14. What’s your all time favourite ship?
Asking a shipper's favorite ship is cruel and unusual, but it's probably almost definitely IronHawk or Stuckony. Also Spirk. I also really love the Lovesquare in all its permutations.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I don't have an WIPs currently being posted for this very reason. So many ideas. With my motivation and butterfly brain, I'll never finish them all.
16. What are your writing strengths?
I'm pretty great with dialogue and emotive scenes, I think? I'm not sure--please let me know!
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Not actually writing even though I really want to. I also struggle with action scenes, but everyone says they always come out fine, so I'm not sure.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
Oh. Oh, this is a bad question to ask me.
Listen, if the readers are supposed to understand what's being said, then freaking write it in the same language as the rest of fic and italicize to indicate it's in a different language. If I have to go hunting for a goddamn translation, or scroll back and forth to the mf-ing notes, when I'm supposed to know what's being said, odds are very high that I'm going to simply stop reading a fic. It's bad writing. Yes, I said it. It's bad writing--it's your job as a writer to make sure a reader can understand what they need to without making them jump through hoops. If your "aesthetic" matters more to you than making your narrative readily accessible to your readers, you need to rethink having another language being spoken. That said, if readers aren't supposed to understand what is said (or it's obvious/doesn't matter in the case of, like, spells or something), or you work the translation into the story right away, I'm all for it. Those are the only times I find it acceptable to actually have another language that's spoken written in a language different from the rest of the narrative.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Cats (the 1998 video, not that 2019 monstrosity)
20. Favorite fics you’ve written?
I'm really rather proud of Eidetic Image despite its numerous and varied flaws, as well as The Seeds of Great Enterprises. I also really had a lot of fun writing my Miraculous BFF-swap story Crushes and Antics.
Thank you so much for tagging me, @hamsteriffic! <3 I think I shall give a poke to... ahhhhh--anyone who sees this and might wanna do it as well! I lack the temerity to ask anyone apart from Hamster or Waffle lol

Finishing off every Question comic with Bombshells. I procrastinated on this for a while because I don't want to be done and have a real count of how many Question comics are bad, but I can't ignore it forever.
War Stories
Renee's kind of a fusion of her late Gotham Central and post-52 self, plus some unique traits just from this universe. She's got a lot of the guilt and poorly-hidden rage, but she's Not A Cop.
She's around for a while, and isn't totally irrelevant, but mostly she's one of Kate's love interests.
She and Kate found a kid named Jason, which went exactly as well as you'd expect the Bat adopting a Jason to go, and that's the big incident that tore their relationship apart.
Like a lot of the characters her personality's a little shaky, wobbling between a distinct sharp-edged self and the generic-author-voice that everyone falls into sometimes. None of it is a full "she would not fucking say that", it's just bland.
Men Who Would Be Kings
Instead of being a noir detective, she's drawing more on adventurer archaeologist tropes.
I actually really enjoy this! It's a neat way to switch up her background while keeping some of the pulp vibes.
I don't think it'd work for a story that's closer to canon, but Bombshells is a very distinct Elseworld that reinterprets and un-legacies a ton of characters, not working in canon isn't a problem.
Also I think it's fun that all the heroes are lesbians and there's a lot of crack ship flirting. It's weird sometimes but for the most part I'm on board with the lesbian divorce polycule.
Mechanical Gods
It's a little weird to me that Renee's the Question at all, since she doesn't have any theming, costume elements, relevant backstory, or annoying cryptic dialogue.
Even when there's theme-based banter she still gets left out half the time, since the Question doesn't mesh well with everyone else's animal gimmicks.
There's a single page of Renee's guilt issues and then it turns into the BatCat soap opera.
What's Past is Prologue
Renee being called the mother of Kate's child makes me mildly unhinged, especially because Kate has picked up the Bat responsibility of having way too many love interests and is cheating on her girlfriend.
They hold hands and then disappear from the comic for the last quarter of its run to go be gay and blow up fascists in Spain, which counts as a happy ending.
Bombshells United - War Bonds
Sequel time.
Renee gets a lot more focus in this arc than in all of Bombshells, and this arc is mostly a take on the Black Adam plot from 52, which is a neat bit of spotlight.
The writing, especially the dialogue, is. Well. I am lying to myself about it being alright because the batshit ways it riffs on various canon stories are stuck in my brain a little, but it's pretty bad.
Absolute galaxy brain shit to put the inevitable Jason Resurrection Angst into the 52 plot. Sure, I have reservations about how maternally Kate and Renee are written, but "what if instead of Under the Red Hood we just made Kate and Renee really sad" is such a power move I don't actually care.
Seriously it's such a flex to bring back Jason only to have him walk back into the afterlife with a minor character from a decade-old event. No Bat-importance for him.
I don't think Bombshells is a particularly deep take on Renee, but there's a real attempt to use her character history beyond being a cop, she gets new angles and unique elements, it tries. That means a lot when Renee has 98 non-canon-or-DCAU comic appearances, maybe a dozen of them are doing anything with her, and the best actual take on her as the Question is still Scooby-Doo.

Officially watched all of Frontier.
FINAL VERDICT:
It's Good.
I definitely like it more than fusion but I actively dislike fusion so that's not very hard. I think I like it more than Appmon as well. And maybe Tamers and Adventure 2020. I didn't finish 2020 or Appmon so idk ig. I can never seem to finish Digimon shows that aren't dubbed.
Not so sure I'd rank it higher than the original Adventure, 02 or Data squad tho.
I felt like it dragged a bit. Particularly in the final fights.
The best episode was definitely when Takuya was in the real world. my favorite character is Koji. Takuya comes close.
While I did get invested in Koji and Kouichi I don't know I think it could have been done better and I have several questions left.
Like did Koji even know his bio mother?? He definitely never lived with her past babyhood?? Why did he think she was dead? Did his father tell him that? What the fuck is wrong with their parents? Did they get parent trapped? Split at divorce?
I'm pretty sure I've come out of this with several new favorite digimon tho so 6/10 experience overall.

I've already fucked it up.
I wanted to do a weekly blog, 1 post with 1 cocktail each week, give or take a few, and I'm already grossly behind. Oh well, too bad so sad.
Here's our first cocktail of the new year, the classic Martini. For better or worse (worse), alcohol has had a presence in most of my life in someway or another. But no matter the form its never been a topic where I've been particularly knowledgeable. I can remember the first time I got drunk, crying with my mom watching the Bruins win the Stanley Cup for the first time in our lifetimes. The memories are sweet but the beer was piss. My first good beer came 2 years later at a New Years Eve party. Earlier that same night I got rear ended at a red light. I got out to check the damage, saw none, and told the guy to have a good new year and took off. He seemed relieved. I had already been in 3 accidents since starting my driving career and this was the only one that wasn’t anxiety inducing. This will be a theme through all of my writing: fuck cops. They make every situation worse, including fender benders. Anyways, that firsdt good beer was bad, some stout from some country, but the memory was delicious. I pretended to like it. I think if I had it now I actually would. It mirrored a lot of my life, faking to enjoy things to enjoy the company of people who enjoyed the things I wish I could. I guess it worked, but I still find myself so often pretending to like things to...what? Seem cool, likeable, sociable, knowledgeable, smart, worldly, know-it-all, educated? Anything but the truth; I don't know.
So fuck not knowing. I want to learn shit. I want to be able to speak about something in my own words without pretending to already know. My first cocktail was something fruity from an Asian fusion place. I don't remember what it was. I don’t remember most cocktails I've had. Beer is easy. Wine likes to look complex. But cocktails have ingredients, variations, names that blend in my head with wrestling moves I already have so much trouble keeping straight in my head. If not ignored they defaulted into "make me something delicious". Which happened most of the time, but I could never tell you what was pounding the heck out of my liver. Through cultural osmosis I learned some names, liquors, drinks, terminology, but never mashed it all together into a weekly word vomit blog. Blogging was dead before I ever got a chance to really engage with it, so in true millennial fashion let's dive into a dead medium as our social media infrastructure crumbles around us faster than our actual infrastructure.
#01: The Classic Martini
Brooklyn Gin + Ransom Dry Vermouth
Couldn't tell you why I picked the brands I did. I never by the cheapest, or the most expensive thing. I'm sure this is some desperate yearning for the stability of being middle class. Or maybe saying that is. Or maybe writing cocktail review blogs is. Or, the classic martini itself is the embodiment of the yearning for middle class.
I don't think rich people drink this.
Maybe in the real life version of Mad Men, but not in *current year*. You can taste the lingering misery on your lips. The yearning for the idea of being well off. The fantasy of being James Bond saying "shaken, not stirred". Which, yes, this martini was shaken, not stirred. Now I know I'm painting a rich picture. James Bond and Mad Men are black tie affairs. But, the martini isn’t Bond and Hamm, its the wanting to be them that is the middle class desire where the martini is crafted and consumed. It's the memory of a more sophisticated desire. It's the overweight white boomer or gen x-er watching their favorite old spy movie avoiding their incoming divorce. With a stronger taste of lemon than you'd think.
My ex hated gin. My best friend wanted to take us to a new gin distillery than opened near her place. She was probably faking having a good time. The first time she got pissed drunk and vomiting (we all have our first) was after gin. She said the smell of Christmas trees made her sick sometimes. I love that smell. I tried at least 3 different types of craft gin. They only tasted like Christmas trees a tiny bit. It was disappointing. Brooklyn Gin however doesn't taste like a Christmas tree at all, which I think is really just my palate finally maturing 8 years later. I find it smoother than expected, I know what juniper is now from my job, and I like it a lot here. I took a look at some other reviews and some people can't taste lemon notes at all. I feel bad for them. Paired in a 5:1 ratio with the Ransom Dry Vermouth was good choice. I have no reference to go on here, Maybe next year I will. But the smell, "aromatics" of the vermouth were really nice, and while maybe not lemon specifically, it definitely had a citrus note that blended really well together. To be honest I made 2. One simple, nothing added. The second I added an olive. Its thee staple garnish of the classic martini. But there is no way I'm making my way through an entire jar of olives in any amount of time in my life. I substituted for a large garlic olive from the grocery store olive bar. It was 45cents. I didn't anticipate how much of a kick the sweat of the garlic shaken into that martini would be. It took the smooth but to be honest, ancient flavor of the martini, the dream for adventure from a dented leather sofa, and kicked it in the ass off the couch and made you want to grab it.
Already I've fucked it up. I wanted to embrace a simple cocktail and review it, and I'm already altering it, trying to make it weird. I guess I can't help it. Scorpion and nature and that whole thing.
Conclusion: The Classic Martini: The flavor of the fantasy of wanting for more. Recommendation: Garnish with flavorful olive. Rating: I would drink it when handed at a party I'm not fancy enough for.
On deck: Lemon Drop Martini

last line challenge
tagged by @ravens-words to share the last line I wrote-
I'm a little unfocused, so I'm writing a tiny bit on a number of WIPs
good fences make good neighbors-
"Ice took a slow sip of his beer, absorbing that silently. Mav found himself watching as his throat muscles rippled and moved as he swallowed."
forgive me my trespass - in the middle of his divorce, Ice is notified Mav is MIA presumed KIA -
Now he was morning transport for the kids while Sarah went back to college, and ‘every other weekend dad’ in his sterile condo in Imperial Beach while the divorce proceedings continued. In theory he was morning transport, he sighed, watching the clock. They were moving past the five-minute lateness and into the unforgivable territory of twenty minutes overdue.
“We’re going to be late to pick up Michael and Erica, and he knows that. Also, he’s twelve, you have uniforms, what could be taking so long?”
“He’s twelve with a girlfriend, so he’s probably putting too much gel in his hair and then washing it out,” Caroline replied, flicking the page in her paperback.
“A girlfriend? He’s twelve! How could he be dating already?” He repeated, uselessly. That was too young, wasn’t it? Ice thought back to his own childhood, but he couldn’t remember girls being on his radar until much later. Most of his memories revolved around Jimmy Lebedev, the only other kid from the neighborhood that his father approved of coming to the house. Girls were for after his application to the Naval Academy had been approved. Then later, it was flight school. After flight school, it was qualifying for Top Gun.
Then he met Maverick. For a year, while they were both instructors, it was only Maverick for him and it had been perfect, right up until it had ended.
“It’s not his first.”
and from the always in progress Last of US AU -IceMav fusion-
“Fair enough. I lost my virginity at fifteen, to Bad Company, with a girl who was in the same group home I was. I ended up getting kicked out and then sent to a much worse place. And wow, when I say that outloud, I sound like a real cliche,” Mav joked, before turning up the volume as Glenn Campbell sang about how ‘there's been a load of compromising, on the road to his horizon’. “I hope your experience was less traumatic.”
“It was. But there was a bit of an age difference between us. Enough that when I think about it as an adult, I probably should have been more bothered at the time. But I was young and I wanted to know what it was like.”
“Ice! You had a ‘Mrs. Robinson’ type pop your cherry?” Mav crowed, laughing in delight at the revelation. “To Glenn Campbell. Did your parents ever find out?”
“No comment.” This time he knew he was blushing. “But no, I’m very certain my parents never knew about that, they were out of town for over a week.” His mother had died just before his twenty-eighth birthday. He always wondered if she had guessed that her son was different, or had she written off his non existent dating habits as just his dedication to his career? His father had figured it out, but then it was much harder to hide his preferences as an unmarried 35-year old. They were both gone before he had gained the courage to ask if they were disappointed in who he ended up being.
“You must have been quite the choirboy at sixteen, that your parents left you alone for a week.”
“Still no comment.”
Maverick laughed again, poking Tom in the shoulder like the jerk he was. “That’s what I like about you, you only look like you follow every rule but not even you, Mr. Perfect, could resist an empty house with no adult supervision. I swear, teenagers can't live with them, can’t kill them without doing time. I think there’s a proverb about how our sins as kids are revisited upon us as adults when we have kids of our own.”

In my version of monster high Jackson and Holt are like this
>their parents are Dr. Jekyll and Mrs. Hyde… the mom was a fire elemental who married Hyde with out ever knowing about dr Jekyll.
>now their parents are divorced, not only was jackson a big shock, mr. Hyde was a deadbeat and lost interest in her after they had kids.
>Dr. Jekyll and the fire elemental lady live together but are not romantically involved they have separate rooms and mostly only deal with “their” kid. Mom usually deals with Holt and Dad deals with Jackson… they dont really dislike the other kid but they just dont really know how to deal with them.
>holt was actually born first and then he turned into jackson when he got a little bit bigger. Making jackson the actual alter ego of holt n not the other way around but jackson doesnt realize this until later.
>jackson already knew about holt before high school but actively was trying to get rid of him. This is how he got into mad science.
>after realizing he is the real monster so to speak he stops trying to get rid of him and coexist.
>jackson and holt are quantum entangled… they are two possibilities happening simultaneously. They are more like the fusions in freaky fusion than a person with a split personality because they are actually two different people.
>frankie and jackson figure out a way to separate him and holt after they get married. I mean they already fucked with time AND fusing people together seems like a couple research thesis papers away from figuring out how to unfuse them. And yes she marries both of them… this would be like the good ending since it did not work out this way for their parents.

for the kisses prompt, reikei and as a distraction !
I was gonna set this in Yumenosaki cause I'm not caught up but they were way too divorced back then for this to work... So it's set in RhyLin... I'll re-write this after eng localization reaches Succession Match and I actually catch up.
There was something wrong with the budget calculation. There had to be. There was no way the total was that low. Anzu might be a miracle worker, but even she couldn’t manage to get it this slim. If she was doing unpaid tailoring work and buying materials out of her own pocket again, then Keito would need a word with her. They were working professionals with proper resources, and the Producer should properly utilize all that ES had to offer. That was the whole point—
Keito’s train of thoughts was interrupted by a knock on his desk.
“Your unitmates asked me to fetch you for dinner.” The culprit was one Sakuma Rei, whom he’s currently collaborating with on the fusion live.
“You guys go ahead,” Keito looked back down to the file on his tablet, “I just need to check something real quick, I’ll join you after.” Now… the budget is… costume, set, venue…
“Is that what you used to say before you spend the night at the student council office?” Rei asked, amused. It must have been a while since his old friend got his hand on some solid paperwork. Looks like old habits die hard.
“Hm? Yeah,” Keito answered non-comitally. Sakuma went on to say something else, and Keito waved goodbye without paying much attention. Security, production… Aha! There it is, this has to be a typo… Unless—
What happened next was too fast for Keito to process. First, Sakuma’s pressed down on the tablet in Keito’s hand, and all of a sudden they were way too close. He leaned down, and placed what must have been a kiss on Keito’s forehead.
The previous train of thought about the project budget is now lost in nirvana.
For a moment Keito could only frown, before shoving Sakuma away. Sakuma, to his credit, backed off gracefully without stumbling, protecting the tablet with both arms.
“Why did you do that?” He demanded, too confused to be offended.
“Looks like I finally got your attention.” Rei smiled, nonchalant, “It’s time to take a break, I’ll help you look these over after sundown. Don’t make your team wait for you.”
“You’re not one to act so frivolously. If you wanted my attention, there were other means.” Keito continued to frown. This was technically a lie. Sakuma Rei did frivolous things all the time, just not when it came to them. There was a layer of thin ice underneath their feet, getting thinner by the days, and Keito wonders which would happen first, if it would one day crack beneath them, or if they could stay weightless as it melts into water.
“I’m not,” Rei said, while the smile remained on his face, there was no jest in his tone. He opened his mouth, but no other words came out before he closed it again. His eyes reflected the red of the evening sun, and Keito was abruptly reminded of the time they first met; the other child, so beautiful and ethereal in the graveyard that Keito did not think he was real. Age has only enhanced Rei Sakuma’s beauty, but Keito knew that the man standing before him was flesh and blood. If he were to reach forward—
Keito sighed, and let himself smile, letting the ice beneath his feet thaw a little further. “Alright,” he said, “let’s get dinner.”
Anyway I hope this works. If you have characterization notes to share please feel free to enlighten me.
On another note, it seems like Rei in the anime is very touchy feely, but I don't really see that from the one in the game. It could just be the nature of VN that people mostly just express themselves in dialogues.
Drop me a note with any two ! characters and a prompt and I'll try my best to write you something.

SAINT AGUILAR ( cis male, he / him, tommy martinez ) is 28 and a LINE COOK from BUENOS AIRES. they are known as THE PERFECTIONIST because they are ROMANTIC, but if things kick off, they can be a bit OVERCRITICAL. they’re BISEXUAL and describe their type as FIT, BUT STILL WILLING TO EAT A LOT. SHORTER THAN HIM, BUT NOT TOO SHORT. OH, AND THEY HAVE TO BE A CAT PERSON. AND WANT KIDS. AND ALSO— *THIS DESCRIPTION HAS BEEN CUT OFF DUE TO TIME CONSTRAINTS*. from their time in the villa, they’re hoping to find LOVE. ( a handmade apron that reads “kiss the chef,” laundry lists of deal breakers and ghosted trysts, a skin indent on the ring finger where a wedding band used to be )
kati said short and sweet but that’s really not my strong suit, so please know i’m trying my best here 😭 also hi i’m aura ! feel free to hmu on discord ( baby²#3050 ) if you’d like to chat about our muses ! i’ll likely be basing everything off chemistry due to the nature of the rp, but i still love hearing about everyone’s characters :>
first things first, he also goes by august, so feel free to use whatever name suits your / your muse’s fancy !
he’s living in buenos aires currently but he actually grew up and spent most of his life in texas.
his parents have that storybook type of love you never see anymore, the kind that makes you believe that soulmates are real and a once in a lifetime love exists somewhere for everyone. so of course saint said that. i want that.
he got married to his first love pretty much the second he could. once the honeymoon stage wore off though things went downhill fast. they tried the counseling route, but then his wife ended up cheating on him so that was a total bust. to make matters worse, they never signed a prenup, and she had no problem trying to take everything he had ( which she damn near did ). the divorce was long and messy, lasting an entire year and a half of saint’s life. by the time it was officially finalized, he was 25 years old. soooo yeah. that kind of messed him up a bit !!
once he was free from that ordeal, he turned his focus inward. he traveled, finished culinary school abroad, even became a bit of an instagram based anthony bourdain ( rip king ) before eventually winding up in his forever home in a latin fusion restaurant in buenos aires.
during that time he messed around with various types of people, tried out the fuckboy / casual hookup thing since he never really gave himself the chance to before. it never really felt right though. despite everything, he still believed in the Real Deal. he figured if there’s any place he’ll find someone who ticks all his boxes ( and i do mean all ), it’ll be on the show specifically designed to do that for people. sooo yeah ! that’s how he ended up on love island !
personality wise he’s generally chill most of the time. he likely comes off as intense and mysterious, a real bad boy type, but he’d describe himself as a big teddy bear ( mostly accurate, though he is actually pretty intense lol ). he’s charming and romantic, really good at eye contact, and he knows ! what ! he ! wants ! doesn’t beat around the bush when he sets his mind on something ( or someone ).
suuuper fussy and judgy. think anna s5 not stepping forward for anyone day 1 because they weren’t tall enough, and lucy saying she’s been put off by how a guy looks in flip - flops. the second he deems you’re not his forever person, he will immediately dump your ass and ghost. it’s like day and night. one second he’s putting it on real thick : making breakfast in bed for someone, giving them his utmost time and attention, and then they’ll have a weird sneeze or something and he’s like 😬 anyway ...
can cook, handy, likes kids. would be the domestic wet dream if he wasn’t such a b*tch.
he’s here to find love so he WILL be stepping on toes if need be 😌 sorry boys.
probably the designated chef in the villa given . . . the obvious, but he’s honestly fine with that. he likes cooking for people.
yes, he did bring the apron. it was a silly present from one of his co - workers.
tommy doesn’t have them, but in my head saint has tattoos. similar placement style as this picture while also peeking onto his shoulders and pecs. i don’t have specific tattoos in mind yet, but they’re all little things he’s collected over the years to represent his family and travels.
punches myself in the face before i can write more and make this too long :’>
