Fantastic neutrals* for this busy furisode, with dynamic pattern of silvery-winged butterflies over blooming chrysanthemums.
*black, white and red are considered neutral colors in kimono fashion

Sort of a new year piece in advance, because I'm moving during the holidays and this is the last painting I'll be able to complete and post before 2024 comes around :) It's a bittersweet end of the year for me, but 2023 was rich and eventful, and I'm grateful to have found my home in the world 🇩🇰 Thank you all for your continued support ❤️

Blessings be upon you on the road ahead First post of 2024 whoop!
I really wanted to do something inspired by traditional Japanese new year wear. Drawing kimono again after years really made me nostalgic, when i was a teen i spent hours on tutorials trying to learn how to draw them. It's nice to see the improvement of so many years of practice.

Silk kimono for an unmarried woman (furisode) painted with motifs symbolizing the New Year. Japanese, 1920-1940. Rijksmuseum.
From the Rijksmuseum:
Plants seem to be growing up against the woodwork of the fabric’s woven background pattern of a garden fence. The young pine shoots are a New Year’s motif and this formal kimono may well have been made for this occasion. The flowering plum and various plants with red berries herald the coming month.
