my favorite thing about mha has got to be how you can't tell if the writers are aware or not that the setting is in fact a corrupt police state

#yes i know this is ooc#Fucked up dabi's jacket on the first page but im not fixing that shit lol#the cover took at long to make as an entire comic page#also can you tell what pages i drew first based on how i get better at drawing the mha style#at least i feel like i can see that#my fav panel is the younger brother cold read one#its the last one i drew#mha dabi#touya todoroki#tw domestic violence#my hero acedamia#this is the art tag#boku no hero fanart#also i started reading MHA because i matched 1:1 with shiggy on every personality test (MBTI enneagram rulen shit like that)#and was looking on a personality databse for what character matched me to most#add mha to the list of series in which the good side are those seeking to preserve the status quo and the villains are people with#legit grievances and a desire to make society better but then have the villains inexplicably like. fight children so we know they are bad#and the end resolution is that society is fine and everything was an individual problem not a systematic one#also fuck endeavor redemption arc#and while enji may SAY it doenst matter if hes forgivven the story SHOWS that it does matte#In the manga Shoto literally explicitly says that if he didn't forgive Enji then he would be as bad as Dabi#and Deku says that what enji did in the past donest matter cause he was nice to him#and the only thing Natsu says against endeavor is that he neglected his kids when thats literally the least of his crimes#and while people see this as a Get Endeavor moment the way the whole arc is framed you're supposed to see Natsu as unresonable#it's why hes shown to be angry and hitting walls and endevor is perfectly calm#the narrative of the story brushes all the truly awful shit away and pretends like it didnt happen#i seriously doubt the fact the Endeavor human trafficked his wife then beat her to the point she was afraid of her own kids for looking like#him will ever be adressed#Rei literally bowed in apology to Hawks for what Touya did shes treated like shit by the narrative#also the fact that Deku explicitly states that none of the shit Enji did in the past mattered because he was a good mentor is such bullshit

I think why Endhawks is so cathartic for me is that you have two people who have been through a bunch of trauma and made fucked up choices because of it and are both terrified that deep down that they aren’t worthy of love, that they’ll end up alone, that they are inherently bad.
And they are trying, trying so hard to change, to be good, to be lovable.
And they accept each other so easily. Like yes I see you. I see you trying so hard. You’re not hard to love at all. You are a good person at heart and that’s why you try so hard. I won’t flinch away at the hard, sharp edges of you because mine fit together with yours.
And it hits me right in my trauma core.
I just love them. Anyway…

four months into getting to know each other, shouto finds him by touya-nii's shrine. his little brother gently sits down beside him and offers a small prayer.
"yumi-nee-san," natsuo wonders if his little brother will ever drop the second honorific, "said you were the closest to him," shouto says quietly.
after all these years and the use of past tense still makes his heart break. 'you are the closest to him' he wants to correct but that wouldn't make sense anymore. touya-nii hasn't been talked about in the present tense since before middle school. does shouto even remember a time before nii-san's dea-, disappearance?
"yeah, i was," he says, eyes never leaving the photo. it's the one nii-san took for sixth-grade picture day. kaa-san had got him all dressed up and he had hated it. somedays he thinks if he looks close enough, he'll see the displeased pout on nii-san face. "why?"
his little brother says nothing for a long time, back ramrod straight. natsuo has no idea what's going on in that head of his. shouto has so few tells that he's practically a blank slate. natsuo hates his father.
then slowly and so quietly, he has to strain his ears to catch it, shouto stammers out, "do-, do you think he would have liked me?"
natsuo's immediate reaction is to say 'yes'. yes, of course, touya-nii would've loved you. yes, of course, touya-nii would've crossed the heavens for you. yes, of course, he would've loved you shouto; you're his precious younger brother.
but he remembers the way nii-san used to spit out shouto's name when he was a kid. the way his brother's mouth wrapped around it, the face he made, like he had just eaten something disgusting. he remembers the way touya-nii had become almost crazed by the end, hellbent on proving himself the rightful heir to their shitty father's legacy. he remembers the way touya-nii had said, "i just need to prove that i'm better than him,"; the 'him' said with such bitterness and contempt.
he knows instantly that touya-nii would not have liked shouto. that this house and his father would have twisted any ounce of love, nii-san would've held towards shouto, into jealousy and hatred.
(this house may have ruined all of them but it only ever broke two of them.)
natsuo can't say any of that to shouto. his kind little brother who forgave him for not being there. his amazing little brother who falls in love with every cat he sees. his wonderful little brother who has a wickedly dry sense of humor. his soft baby brother who loves him and yumi-nee with a passion. his tender-hearted baby brother who still worries if his long-gone older brother would've liked him.
no, natsuo can't tell shouto that nii-san wouldn't have like him. shouto will internalize it like he does with everything else that hurts him. and there is already so much that hurts shouto, he will not add to that list. his baby brother smiles these days, nothing big like his green-haired friend, but quiet, lovely, ones all the same. shouto talks more these days. they have dinner together when natsuo is home. his baby brother laughs now. it's a miracle like nothing else in this world.
shouto is the best thing to come out of their house and natsuo will die before he ever hurts his little brother. so instead, he curls an arm around shouto's shoulders and pulls him into a loose side-hug.
"of course!" he lies cheerfully, ignoring the ache in his chest, "touya-nii would've loved you. you're his — and our —precious little brother after all. there is no universe in which he wouldn't have loved you."
the tips of his baby brother's ears go red and his pleased little answering smile makes the ache of lie go away. natsuo will tell a thousand more lies if it means shouto never stops smiling like that.

My baby sister has heard of bnha and apparently watched some clips but only some tidbits from the 6th season (mainly the fight with Nagant, who is her favorite) And she very confidently told me that she knows all about keigo, who is hawks. I asked if he knew who dabi has, and she rolled her eyes and told me that yes, she knows he's touya, and that he used to be friends with keigo as kids!
She was very confused when I told her that... no, they weren't. They didn't know each other until adulthood. She insisted that she'd seen a video of them as kids together. I told her it was probably a fan animation, because a lot of people thought Dabi and Hawks knew each other as kids, since Dabi was the only one who knew hawks' real name. But it turned out he just tracked his mom down in secret. She insists that this is stupid, once again confirming that the "dabihawks secret childhood friends/rivals" theory is the only time fanon has ever been better than canon.
#sorry but objectively the 'touya was secretly in the HPSC at one point' theory was SO much better than what we got#not even from a shipper standpoint but a story one#all that buildup with the name and the black fucking speech bubble and NO PAYOFF. Unfortunately it's overshadowed by people still insisting that Endeavor's redemption is so great (and that "he didn't hold her down and force her" which a) you don't know that for sure and b) it doesn't matter if he did or didn't, it's still rape). Newsflash, you can't be redeemed unless you atone for EVERYTHING you've done. MHA doesn't touch the marital rape aspect of the Todorokis with a 10 foot pole. Probably because Hori either doesn't see it as rape or he just doesn't care to address it. Endeavor hasn't atoned for this at all.
(Just as well because he can't. There's no coming back from sexual assault and that's already on top of the physical, verbal, and financial assault that's already outright confirmed in canon. Endeavor is a horrible person who only changed because his life had no meaning once he got what he wanted)
But if you try telling the asshats in the MHA sub that, they throw a fit. The OP got down voted for saying that this is a reason why Endeavor's arc isn't that good. I think we should start realizing that Endeavor fanboys are becoming as bad as Bakugou stans.
Rei deserves so much better than this series and its shitty fandom

'endeavor still sees only dabi, the villain he needs to take down, not his son'
he. literally saw him as liddol touya in this chapter. and thought about how he doesn't want him to die.
we, as readers, know that shouto and the rest of todofam are all about to reunite with touya and endeavor, but endeavor does not. he's thinking that touya is already on the verge of death and is about to blow up and he has no way to stop it because touya already became delirious and is losing his conscience - he doesn't hear him, he doesn't understand what's going on, his mind is being reverted to a childlike state, mentally he's not even there. enji is not thinking that he has to take him down - he's thinking that not letting him die alone is the only thing left for him to do at this point.
