BESTIE! How did you pull off the animation for the 3rd gif in this post? I have tried so many times to get it right and I just...can't :3 any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks! <3 you can also dm me if that's your fancy ^_^

hey!! so in terms of layer setup/blend modes i followed this tutorial exactly. i did end up messing around with it some tho to get it to what i ended up with, and what ended up helping the most was turning the contrast up all the way on the overlay to make the black part as dark as possible. i also did mess around with the blend modes some, switching between multiply/darken or screen/lighten, and while i ended up using the blend mode settings in the tutorial, the other modes might help the effect look better depending on your gifs/overlay. once i got the basic setup for the technique from the tutorial, i honestly just played around with the overlay (changing the contrast, trying different overlays themselves, resizing/cropping) til i got it to a point where it was doing what i wanted it to and i liked how it looked. hopefully any of this is helpful to you!!! feel free to ask if you want anything more like specific or clarifying <3

seven sentence sunday

Tagged by my lovelies @walkinginland and @flyinghome-againstthewind! I don't have much of this one and who knows if I'll ever have more, but I'm celebrating that there's anything at all

The first stumble is her realization upon their arrival that when Frank referred to "the house" and "our lodgings," he meant the neoclassical residence in the town square already occupied by his cousin. It's certainly a large enough space, and Jonathan works quite a lot in his office at the mining company’s headquarters, and it isn't as if Claire particularly desires to choose her own wallpaper and furniture and the like or to host frequent gatherings; yet still, somehow, she finds herself having to heft up the corners of her smile as Frank glances around the room the maid had shown them to and says, "It looks like this will be quite a nice place for us during our stay. Jack's certainly done well for himself."

The second bit of trouble comes at dinner that evening, Claire seated with the two Randalls (although, she supposes, they're actually all three Randalls) around the large oak table.

"Where do you think you'll start tomorrow?" asks Jonathan — Claire can't quite bring herself to refer to him as Jack the way that Frank does.

He slices neatly and casually into his meat as Frank swallows a bite of his own greens and replies, "I wired ahead, so I have an appointment scheduled already with the state archivist in Frankfort. It will be useful to see what they have documented thus far and what I should be on the lookout to fill in with my own research."

"Frankfort is quite a way, if my look at the map was right. How early should we plan to leave?" Claire asks, glancing a small smile in the direction of the maid who leans in to refill her nearly full glass of water. The woman does not catch the expression, her eyes downcast and movements mechanical; it seems something beyond the traditional polite deference of staff, and Claire wonders whether there might be some personal or family trouble which is upsetting her.

She cannot spend too long wondering, however, as Frank and Jonathan both are looking at her with something between confusion and astonishment.

"We—? Well, darling, I didn't think you'd be interested in joining me," Frank says finally, and although Claire wasn't actually interested in the outing or the research itself, there is a bitterness on her tongue and a missed-step feeling swooping through her insides as she begins to understand that her husband hadn't at all been imagining this project — this new chapter of what is meant to be their life — as something they would be doing as a team.
