I want an adaptation of Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein where you never see the creature’s face. It’s just out of frame or you see him from behind and all you have are people’s reactions to seeing him.

It’s just so hard to visually capture the idea of him because I don’t think it’s just that he has a messed up mug or looks like a corpse that scares people, I think they see him and their instincts go “that thing was not made by god, that thing should not exist. You don’t belong here”

I really like the idea that the creature’s effect on people is more psychological than anything else but makeup doesn’t really cover that, leaving it up to the imagination however….

Like, I get where the Creature’s coming from in asking Victor to make him a companion just like him. He’s incredibly lonely and desperate. He tried doing things right, and it clearly isn’t working—all it takes is one look at him, and people freak out and jump to the worst conclusions. That’s an awful way to live for anyone, and it’s not a strange wish to have—“to be with someone just like me.”

But it also doesn’t change that his request is also fucked up. “Make someone with all the same problems I have so they’ll have no other recourse; I won’t be alone then.”

I’m really sorry, dude, but I’m on Victor’s side in this one. There really is no easy solution here. I agree it’s not fair; but life just isn’t.

Also, this is beside the point, but it seems like everything wrong with the Creature’s appearance was unintentional. But with Creature 2.0, it would be on purpose. Victor tried to make him beautiful, and it didn’t work out. Now Victor has to deliberately make the next one just as flawed. “Do it again, but this time make it look bad on purpose.” The rose-tinted glasses of his imagination are gone, so he can see everything he’s doing with absolute clarity and has a more cynical view of how things could turn out. There’s nothing beautiful and inspiring about this project.

Some dreams just shouldn’t come true. They make sense as dreams, but reality is harsh.

Sometimes the rampant Victor slander by people who’ve read Frankenstein can catch me so off guard, because like, sure, he fucked up big time creating the creature in the first place, and yeah him abandoning it out of horror for what he’s done was severely detrimental to what was basically his son, but like. Those takes that the Creature is just the most perfect wee lad in the world and Monsieur Frankenstein himself is big bad pathetic terrible deadbeat abusive dad who the other characters deserve better than to associate with??? Are we reading the same book here???

Housemates AU main characters (as of yet) updated designs and their relative heights :3

Closeups and some details under cut

Dorian! His goal is to revive Basil using his angel core he’s kept on his person for years. He gets into contact with V since he’s rumored to know the most about angels.

V Dracula! His goal is to protect people from what he believes is to be the “evil” influence of angels. He’s lately been having his beliefs tested by Al’s relationship with their angel.

Al Van Helsing! Their goal is to rid the world of those who use their contracts with angels for “evil”. Al is extremely close with their angel, having saved one another’s lives. They have a frenemy relationship with V as they don’t agree with V’s idea that all angels are evil, but they understand that some contracts are better off not existing.

Dr. Henry Jekyll! His goal is to figure out the effects of prolonged exposure and consumption of Angel Ash. He got into contact with V whose goal of killing angels gives him relatively easy access to angel cores used to make angel ash.

Lazarus (aka Frankenstein’s Creature)! His goal is to find the balance between its human nature and its angel nature and who they is outside of the fragmented memories of the angel “Henry Clerval”. They’ve been hanging out with Al after Al helped contain an outburst of his angel power.

Erik (the Phantom)! His goal is to finish the “pinnacle of music” that his angel promised him when he was a child. V had attempted to kill his angel, but he was too slippery for V and they’re currently in a bit of a game of cat and mouse.

Death/Thanatos/Hel/Todd (nicknamed that by Dorian after he introduced himself as Der Tod). Its goal is to figure out why humans make contracts. She just pops in from time to time to learn what’s going on with the humans.
