As of now telegram, Twitter, tumblr, Instagram, Facebook, Reddit and soon enough whatsapp are blocked in here; that means no social media whatsoever
The VPNs we use are failing one after the other; And the internet speed is gradually getting less and less and less
Once they cut us off the massacre will begin

as an Iranian, I feel like I cannot stay quiet about this issue and must speak about it, women in Iran have been abused, disrespected, and killed for many years and I hate how much fear I feel every day for my family, friends and all the women that live in this country with me. this shouldn't be the norm. we shouldn't feel fear every day of our lives, we should not be forced to wear hijab and we have the right to be treated way better than this. My heart goes out to the family of Jîna ( Mahsa) Amini, a young girl who has done nothing wrong and has been merely killed just because a goddamn scarf wasn't around her head. right now they've shut off the internet. in the city I live in the internet gets shut off every night around 7-8 pm and comes back up right around midnight or later in the day. during this time I've decided to watch the regular Iranian channels (IRIB TV) to see what they're speaking about and what they're saying is making my blood boil. they've been editing clips of protestors on the street, making it look like they've been the violent ones while when you search for the video online, the full clips shows you that they were defending themselves against the morality police that were attacking them. they're lying right in front of our faces with no shame whatsoever. it's disgusting.
if you want to help in any way, please share as much as you can about this situation and use the #mahsaamini so more attention is brought up to this issue. this isn't a one-time thing that has happened, this has been happening for more than 40 years. it has to end.
in Iran, we all feel stuck. we feel suffocated. we cannot go outside without wearing something that hides all of our body, because we will be killed. we cannot go outside and openly be a part of the LGBTQ+, because we will be killed. we cannot even protest without many deaths happening along the way.
be our voice, and share our story.

In my sister's university, men made a protecting circle around women and provided a safe route of scape for them when the security gaurd attacked and wanted to capture them. I want more of this support and unity.

it's not that white liberal feminists truly believed the hijab is honorable, empowering, and a choice, it's just that they care more about "political correctness" than women's rights
Not only the hijab represents purity culture for the middle eastern/muslim woman but it clearly sexualizes every inch of a woman's body, contrary to popular belief. It imposes that unless a woman is covered, she is inherently sexual. And not just her hair, her arms and her legs, in some cases her feet, her face, her hands, and even her eyes. Even the outline of her body has to be concealed because there is always a man who will find it enticing, and this from the ripe age of 9. No matter how inconvenient it is. Not to forget, women are always to some degree pressured if not forced into this "choice" lest they bring shame to their family. How many arab girls have grown up hearing "You can do whatever you want, just keep a hijab on your head."? How many girls have been scolded, threatened, hit, because they were merely talking to a boy? How many girls were forbidden to go to school, to go out of the house until they abandoned their "westernized ideas" and started "dressing decently"? And how many were killed, charged with prostitution, stoned for not not wearing it?
Now, you want to convince me that libfems, the same group that wants to "free the nipple", thought the hijab was empowering for the last decade? Hell nah.
They just don't care. They don't care because they view middle eastern, brown, and Muslim women as lesser. Our suffering and our objectification are nothing compared to their inconvenience. So why would they even think about it? Why would they upset conservative muslim men and women ? They have been overlooking every honor killing for years now to not make muslims look bad.
Today it's trendy to oppose forced hijab, tomorrow, they'll forget about us.

My god, the way some people actually managed to make iran's problems about themselves is outstanding.
I'm sorry that women in the west face harassment for hijab. But this has nothing to do with iran, our issues are actually going viral and they just..discuss a different topic? Many women were beaten, killed, jailed for not wanting to wear something that was forced on them 40 years ago and so many people including children were murdered for fighting against it and you just bring up women's struggles in first world countries?! I'm not saying that we shouldn't talk about them, every single issue deserves to be acknowledged; but we should NOT compare these two things at all, they're completely different

Some people who live outside of Iran really have the AUDACITY to tell you that you're wrong for protesting against the government!!!
You haven't got a clue what we're going through right now. Please check your facts, It's not that hard to educate yourself. People are being killed for wanting their basic human rights.

email address of the counsellor who made this proposal is [email protected] if anyone wants to tell her how tone deaf this is

What is Hijab in Islam?
First thing, I want to say that, in Islam, the prophet Mohamed never forced anyone to be muslim. A lot of non-muslim people were living in the village of the prophet Mohamed, they asked him to render justice between them, they trusted him... They just have to pay the Jizya, a light tax, as they didn't have to pay the Zakat as Muslim did.
What is a ruler who force people to have the same religion as him?
Islam is based on respect of other religion, other opinion and beliefs.
The second thing I want to point about is the place of the HIjab in Islam. I won't deny it, Allah asked women (not little girls) to cover their beauty. But, this is just some verse in the Quraan. Is wearing hijab written in the five pillar of Islam? NO. Allah asked muslim women to wear hijab, but it's not a TOP priority in Islam. The verse in the Quraan that talk about it says to show your attractiveness only to your husband, father, uncles, brothers, half-brothers,..and anyone who can't be attracted by you. So, Hijab is supposed to protect women from men eyes, not to be an instrument of submission. In the time of the prophet Mohamed, women were not evaluated by their beauty, as they hid it, but by their stenght, intelligence and willpower. The prophet's wives were stong (Khadija was a respected trader who owned many caravans, Aisha was asked questions by the more intelligents men of islam, the wife of one of Mohamed companion was a fighter and archer who had a great importance in war...)
Now, Islam has been twisted, people held their attention on insignificants details and misunderstood them. It's time to change

Iranian people are going through a traumatic event, risking their lives, and losing their lives to overthrow 44 years of dictatorship. so the most decent thing you can do is to not abuse Iran's current situation to fuel your islamophobia or guard against us because you think it's islamophobia!
the protest that is going on in Iran is not a new thing. once upon a time Iranians wanted a true democratic republic and we almost had it when Mosadegh got elected as prime minister. that ship sailed very fast because he wanted to take the oil industry back from Britain and it didn't sit well with the old fox. so MI6 with help of the CIA orchestrated a coup against that government (it's not a conspiracy theory, the CIA admitted to it and then apologized for what they did in the 1950s. look into 1953 Iranian coup d'état on Wikipedia)
that failed government slowly lead to the 1970s revolution to bring today's Islamic republic of Iran government as a lousy substitute for what we lost. but guess what, this revolution which was corrupted from the beginning got worse and worse throughout the years and ended up in the disaster we have today.
today's protests started by the brutal murder of Mahsa Amini and the misogynistic act of violence added enough anger to all the other previously done f up sh**. this government had been failing for more than 40 years. this government is a circus of lies and oppression and theft and embezzlement. this was never what our fathers and mothers intended to have. this government put a religious front but religion is just a tool of oppression and control. They don't believe a thing they force on people.
just three years ago there was another mass protest in Iran that ended up in a massacre. they shut down the internet completely for over a week (in some states for a month) and then killed approximately 1500 people in like 3 days. because it happened so suddenly, no one was prepared for such violence and our voice didn't have a chance to reach the world. that's why we're so afraid of the internet being cut down today.
to wrap it up whether you're Muslim or not, just being a human is enough for you to be on our side in this fight. it's a fight against misogyny, patriarchy, racism (look into IR vs Kurds), dictatorship, terrorism (IR has a long history of doing terroristic attacks all over the world), and basic human rights (no minority is safe in Iran, from religious minorities to ethnical minorities to queer folks). so raise your voice in our defense.

my brother said that any other man would have killed their sister for sneaking out without the hijab. He's literally acting like he did me a favor by almost making me loose my tuition and go through the most traumatic month of my life over a fucking headscarf.
