Did you notice that Olgimskys are trying to kill the Bachelor from day one?
Maybe you did. I'm not that smart, it took me a while. I did think that morgue situation on day 4 is weird, but I dismissed it. But then I was thinking about day 1 quest beast like fugitive and it hit me.
So, day 1.
Small Vlad asks a scientist to kill a guy. That doesn't make any sense. What I think is going on is Vlad wants you to go and try to talk to the butcher. Vlad acts as suspicious as possible so the detective Batchelor is like, aha! if I want to know what really happened with Isidor and the Termitary, I need to interrogate this fugitive, I'm so smart. This is why you don't even have an option to tell Aspity 'step aside, I will kill this butcher', you have a choice between letting him go or insisting on talking to him. And when you meet him you can talk to him, which doesn't go well. Which is exactly Vlad's plan - to kill the Bachelor.
Day 2.
Small Vlad wants the Bachelor to leave. He's the only character, who's not involved in Eva's quest, who talks to Daniil about leaving the Town and suggest you talk to his father about it. Big Vlad also wants Bachelor to disappear of course. You can be killed in the end of this quest too, but that's not intentional, I think. The Olgimskys would be content with Bachelor just running away. Too bad.
Day 3.
Small Vlad directs the Bachelor to the house with three (was it three?) butchers to be beaten to death. And it's not even Simon's body. Who's body is it? Are those guys Artemy's friends helping him with something? Maybe. But I think the entire situation was fabricated by Vlad. The butchers were hired for the job. And even if not, if they just happened to be there, that means Vlad used this setup to get rid of the Bachelor yet again.
Day 4.
Okay, how many people does it take to kill this guy? He has a fucking gun, it's not fair. 7? Let's try 7.
And they succeed. I don't think there's a person who beat the Barley's lair with the first attempt.
Now you can go to Barley through Saburov's quest. But it's Grief who sends you there. And on the same day in Changeling's route we discover that Grief works for Big Vlad. But even if this would fail, Vlad made sure to send Daniil to his death anyway. The Barley's lair is the supposed morgue, which you must inspect on your main quest. Vlad sends you there to die. And he 100% knows about the bandits, again, he works with Grief.
You could go further but I think it's enough to make the case.
The question is, why? Why so early?
Well, one possible answer is that it's just good business practice to kill the doctor before the epidemic. Think all the hatred from conservatives towards Fauci for instance.
But the more likely option is that Capella told them to. In the same way that Alexander is constantly trying to get rid of the Haruspex because of Katerina's prophecy. Katerina herself is not on board, but the men in power are using her warnings to crack down on somebody they just don't like. Capella maybe made some unfortunate remarks about how this big city snake is going to destroy our traditional way of life and that was enough for the Vlads.

I'm pretty sure this has been asked before, but how do you come up with such wonderful names for you characters? I know a few of them have meanings (Mary's being an anagram of manta ray, Ollie's being based off of an olive ridley turtle), but what about characters such as Mitzi, Ioro, Capella, Ryo, Embry, and Fia? As an artist myself I struggle coming up with names for my OCs haha (anways i love love love your games just wanted you to know that too)
Aw thanks! ♡
Naming characters always used to be a bit of a struggle for me (a friend helped me come up with Mary's name) and sometimes I still struggle with finding that perfect name! (I have some unnamed characters right now still haha!) but I like to think I'm getting a little better with it and finding names is fun!
I often try to find names that I think either visually "look" like the character, or have names with important meaning to them. But there's a few exceptions to that too!
For example, Mitzi is actually named after a character I loved from the game "The Cat Lady", and her Here For Sweethearts dance dress is meant to reference this as well!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think the name "Ioro" came about because like...Ioro's pallete is full of blacks and whites and it reminded me of oreo cookies, so I think I wanted a name that sounded like it!
"Capella" means "Little She Goat", so I don't think there was a more perfect name for her!!
Ryo just looked like a Ryo to me honestly
Embry was a bit of a challenge, but I knew I wanted a name that started with E and could sound a little gender neutral, and when I found Embry it was the perfect fit!
"Fia" is actually short for "Fiammetta", which means "little fiery one" which I thought was perfect for her!! I wanted a name to match her energetic and goal-oriented self!!

Someone scanned a bunch of 35mm film trailers from the 70's to early 90's, with all the scratches preserved-- I keep rewatching the trailer for Heat in particular, just for the photography of it. But man, I wonder what the last trailer is that used voiceover, the way old trailers did. You have to a guy who was The Voice of Film Trailers (Don LaFontaine or whoever), and he'd say "In a world where cops are badasses, the sword ruled" or whatever. But then they got rid of a Guy with a Voice and replaced that with playing a super-sad a capella version of Blame It On the Rain, or the most abrasive hip hop available... I don't know why entirely. I'm not sure what was wrong with telling people what the movie was about, when they try to sell you a ticket to the movie.
The trailer for Heat really just feels good to look at. I dont know why it's hitting me as much as it.

Music in the Air
Tumblr media
A/N: Written for Vee's Holly Jolly Challenge (@sstan-hoe). Reader is implied fem, "girls like me". No physical descriptors used.
Prompts: Bucky Barnes - My house, my rules. The Christmas music stays on.
Summary: You and Bucky discuss poinsettias.
Tumblr media
Bucky's arm was having problems. Again. In all the years he had the arm he never really got to understand how it worked. He could figure out how to fix a lot of things, but his arm wasn't one of them. That's why he was glad he had you to turn to. You had quickly become his go-to engineer in the Avengers Tower. You were a rare and delightful combination of "not afraid of him" and "not overly friendly". You would smile, but let him initiate the conversation when he wanted.
At least, normally you were his favorite. Ever since December started you only every played Christmas music in your lab. He was still trying to get used to how much the holiday had changed and the music was, well, a lot. Especially when you were always listening to some kind of heavy metal Christmas music and he had only ever heard Christmas music sung a capella or maybe a church organ.
"Do you really need to listen to that music all the time?"
You smiled while working, "I did the respectful thing and waited until December before I started listening."
"Yeah, but it's just so..." he struggled to find the words.
"Non-traditional?"
"Jarring."
"Well, Sergeant Barnes," you reply, setting your tools down, "My house, my rules. The Christmas music stays on. However, I am willing to switch it for something that's maybe a little more your speed."
You walk over to your laptop and open up your playlist. It takes you a minute, but you finally find the song you're looking for and press the play button. As the speakers sing a lighter, slower tune, you turn back to Bucky, "you should be grateful. I don't turn off Trans Siberian Orchestra for just anyone."
Bucky blushed as he smiled, listening to the song. It was very different from what you had been listening to. For a start, there were lyrics. They told the story of a poinsettia named Percy and how had been overlooked and abandoned but grew and shone when given love. He almost smacked himself for having empathy for an imaginary plant.
To distract himself he said, "I'm surprised you like this song. It's so different from what you were listening to before."
You smile and respond, "it's a childhood favorite. This song just really hit my heart in a way no other Christmas song did. It stuck with me so much that, even in college if I saw my flowers for sale that were wilting or on their last legs, I'd buy them. Just to make sure they had love before they fully wilted."
Bucky looked at you with a softness in his eyes before you shook your head, "I know, it's stupid. I was an adult, I should've known better but some things just stick with you, you know?"
"Yeah," he whispered. "I know. Did you stop buying flowers because you kept getting them from dates or something?"
You chuckle, "I stopped because I had to prioritize my budget. I can't remember the last time I had flowers in my apartment. But thank you for the compliment."
"What do you mean? The guys you date don't give you flowers?"
"Girls like me don't get dates, Sergeant. I'm not whatever enough for guys to ask me out. Whether it's my size, my intelligence, my hobbies, there's just always something that keeps guys from asking me out, let alone bringing me flowers. But, again, thank you for the compliment."
You set down your tools and start putting them away, "your arm is all patched up. Hope this fix lasts you at least through the end of the year. I've got a lot of projects to finish up before the end of the year so I might not have the time to take care of you."
"You're not staying here for Christmas, are you?"
"I am," you nod. "My family celebrates holidays on days that aren't the day of so that we can avoid traffic and last-minute shoppers. So I set up an office lunch for the people who either don't celebrate, have nowhere to go, or whatever other reasons. Mr. Stark has been very generous with the budget for that."
"I'm glad you won't be alone on Christmas," he gives you a gentle smile.
"How about you," you ask. "You're welcome to join us if you'd like."
"Sam is insisting on taking me to Louisiana," he replies.
"Good," you assert. "I'm very glad you also won't be alone on Christmas."
Tumblr media
You really shouldn't have been surprised to see the poinsettia on your desk the next day. There was no note, but you suspected. It wasn't very big and it had started wilting, but you loved it nonetheless. You gently hugged the plant and promised to give it the best of care for as long as it needed. After a week it was like a brand new plant, bright and strong. Doesn't hurt that you asked the biolab techs for help and resources.
It made Bucky's year to see how big your smile was, watching your poinsettia grow and how much you clearly loved it. It took him a while after to gather his courage and ask you on a date but your quick "yes" reassured him. Neither of you would ever be alone on Christmas.

so about those teeth shapes headcanons you mentioned? 🤨👀
you're so crazy. i love that in a reader.
twirls hair anyways... so matching with this morning's anon let me tell you it all. let me tell you. i'll tell you like one would tell a close, intimate friend.
Dankovsky: he has. i think it's called snaggletooth(teeth?), where his upper canines are implanted higher and more forwardly than the incisors. he's the one dude i have like. a #claim for, which i'm very sorry mademoiselle [art commentary/drama youtuber that autoplayed on me one day] you get to be here again:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
exactly. he also has the same high, pointy lower canines.
Burakh: wide upper row... big teeth. His upper incisors are mostly straight, with the outer ones being implanted just a tad higher than the front ones. his upper canines as well as premolar look quite sharp. his bottom canines are revealed, with the gum being lower than on other teeth, making them look longer and sharper. they, as well as his bottom premolar, are a bit crooked from his wisdom teeth pushing at the back.
Clara: her teeth are silly #moving and #squirming but what is sure is that she has a small gap between the front incisors, with the itty bittiest hint of a chip to the corner of one of them. her canines are small and low, but somewhat dull, and her premolars sharper in both rows.
Andrey: unilateral partial maxillary agenesis babyyyyyy i'm all about that. basically his left outer upper incisor is missing, and instead he has a canine. it's like this:
Tumblr media
(Heilung singer(?)). on his left upper side, he has one (1) wisdom tooth, that grew because the back of incisor gave it some space to grow. Low and sharp canines on the top & the bottom. vampyric...
Peter: the same ^ but mirrored. 🫶 i'm crazy i'm insane insane asylum... so he's missing his left upper outer incisor + has his upper right wisdom tooth.
Rubin: straight row above, his bottom teeth slightly overlap in places (middle incisors slightly overlap, and his side incisors overlap the middle ones by being more forward). His upper canines are a little dull, with his upper premolar being sharper (having a wide maxillary, it's visible). his bottom canines are sharp enough.
Lara: she has quite a narrow upper maxillary, so her top front incisors are forward, with relatively sharp canines behind.
Grief: i'm seeing/extrapolating what his p1 portrait has, which looks like:
Tumblr media
so i'm seeing prominent front incisors that kinda make a /\ shape forward out of the row of teeth. like a little bunny very cute. [the teeth. i will not pronounce myself on either bad grief or Yuri Reiser on this picture, who i do not know personally]. i also think he's missing his upper right premolar. got it socked out of him in a brawl. happens to the best of us.
Eva: wide front incisors slightly more forward than the row, rounded and smaller outer incisors with sharp canines somewhat tucked behind.
Yulia: pointy but somewhat dull outer upper incisors and canines, with the gum revealing a lot of the canines on both rows.
Khan: don't think i've drawn him smiling which is really funny. anyways i think he has a teeny gap between his two front incisors.
Notkin: computer CROOK THIS GUY'S TEETH! i was gonna go at length but i found the perfect stock image hold on
Tumblr media
yes something of the sort. front incisors slightly overlapping, outer incisors somewhat tucking behind, canines sharp with one implanted higher that the others. bottom row as some overlapping here and there + canines implanted slightly forward. i also think both of his upper outer incisors have the little. don't know what it's called. serrated shape you see on the right side [our left] of this model.
Capella: she gets a gap too #gang i've drawn it a bunch on her actually. hashtag girl
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i like to draw her in ways where she looks like a little bnnuy from the straight + downturned nose so she can have a gap and be a lil bit. what's the bame. buckteethy(?)
Catnip: my my. what big teeth you have. it's true! she also has a wide jaw that allows for big canines and she loves to do big wide smiles to show them off. it's like a power move.
Tumblr media
also her front teeth all form a. somewhat "‿" whape? ykwim? slope. cup-line.
Dandy: what i know for a fact is that his upper front incisors have a gap accentuated by one of them being crooked outwardly. like he could hold a matchstick in the hollow if he wanted. very useful!

Day 7
More gnolls on the road. We're getting closer to where the devil Wyll's obsessed with is. Should get there tomorrow, and it will be interesting to find out what happens next.
Astarion wanted to reminisce about biting me. Not even sure how to process this, but apparently I was the first person he'd ever bitten. He'd only fed on beasts before. Then in true Astarion fashion, he pivoted to his musings about how our other companions might taste. It felt like he just used the talk as an appetizer for his nightly hunting...
Gale asked me to sing tonight, he said he didn't care what. He said that after the other day he wanted to hear my voice again. I'm not used to singing a Capella in front of others. No stage, no crowd, and no music. I was exceptionally nervous in such an intimate setting. Could not even bring my eyes to meet anyone's. Thus tonight's performance (I was actually emphatic about not calling it that, but for the sake of narration I do so here) was very bare bones, with the smallest audience I've ever had, but they were very polite. Even Lae'zel was polite.
WE GOT A DOG! His name is Scratch and I love him. The end.

Mr. Sandman, Ring Me a Dream
Summary: Death decides that a phone will help her little brother stay more connected to human friends. (Or “friend,” singular, for the moment.) Not to worry, she's taken care of all of the setup, right down to the ringtone. Just give this number to Hob and put it in your pocket. Please, little brother. For me.
Dream should have known to ask more questions…
Read on AO3
Ch. 1: “Turn on Your Magic Beam”
“Just try it for a bit,” said his sister. “You don't have to do anything but put it in your pocket and answer it if it rings.”
“I have no need for a telephone, mobile or otherwise,” said Dream. “Hob and I have remained in contact for centuries without any such thing.”
Death raised an eyebrow. “You see one another once a century by appointment, and you missed the last one. I'm just saying the humans have invented all sorts of communication devices, and you should try being a little more reachable. You might like it.”
Dream refrained from actually rolling his eyes, but Death seemed to get the point.
“Look, I've completely set it up for you. It's got Hob's number in it.” She punched the green phone handset button, “Contacts,” and the solitary entry labeled “Hob Gadling” with exaggerated slowness, the phone flourished in front of his withering gaze so that he couldn't avoid seeing the process. “I even set a ringtone for you! All you have to do is give him this string of numbers. He'll know what to do.”
Dream did not dignify that with a response.
“Come on, little brother. Give it a fair chance. For me.” She paused until his disdainful expression cracked, and she smirked in victory. “If you hate it, you can always go back to your once-a-century meeting and no harm done, right?”
Dream begrudgingly slid the glossy black rectangle into his pocket. Human innovations were often far from “no harm done” in his opinion, but fine, if his sister believed this one was harmless, he supposed he could humor her.
He dropped by to find Hob, crossly shoved the piece of paper with numbers at him, muttering that his sister had insisted on getting him a phone, and promptly forgot about it.
James' back hit the wall behind him, starting to question whether buying the tiny ziploc baggie of allegedly “magical” powder had been a mistake.
He'd mostly bought it as a joke, anyway. The seller had put on a surprisingly convincing song and dance to “prove” that the sand was magical rather than just gray sand, but really. Magic sand? Besides, if it were as special as he claimed, the price would surely have been higher.
Still, if the sand was fake, the salesman was an excellent illusionist, and the entertainment value alone had been worth the small price being charged.
…At least it had been until this goth beanstalk showed up, trailed by a raven, of all things. James had initially brushed that off, too. When you hung around in circles where someone was likely to sell you “magic dream sand,” you encountered a lot of odd people.
This one was persistent—James couldn't seem shake him—and his initial blunt pushiness had edged over into scary.
James tried to tune back into what he was saying. Maybe he should just—
An incongruously cheerful tune derailed his train of thought.
“Bom bom bom bom bom bom bom bom. “Bom bom bom bom bom.”
The apparition did not react or change expression as the a capella harmony continued.
“Mr. Sandman, bring me a dream! Make him the cutest that I've ever seen.”
The apparition's eyebrows knitted together. He glanced around, as if looking for the source of the sound. He pivoted slowly in a complete circle, peering in all directions, as the song continued to play.
The raven cocked its head quizzically. “That coming from you, boss?”
(Great. A talking bird, as if this wasn't weird enough.)
“What do you mean 'is it coming from me?' Why would it?”
Words spilled out of James' mouth before he could think better of it. “…Is it your phone?”
He regretted speaking as soon as the apparition's attention snapped back onto him.
“I do not have a phone.”
“Uhh… actually…” said the raven.
The pale brow furrowed. “Oh. That's right.” He started patting his sides as if trying to locate something in his pockets. He fished out a black rectangle just as the music abruptly cut off, midway through the “Mr. Sandman” leading into the second verse.
He stared blankly at the it.
“I think you missed the call?” offered James.
There was silence for a moment. “It says 'Missed Call,'” the apparition confirmed. “'Hob.' There's a little picture of his face.”
“Yeah, you missed it, then. Maybe they'll leave a voicemail?”
The apparition scrutinized him. “A… 'voicemail'?”
James floundered. “Yeah. You know, record a message for you?”
Based on the apparition's expression, he did not know.
“Or you could just call 'em back?”
The apparition frowned at the phone again. “I… do not know how to do that.”
“There's—There should be a button.” He reached towards the phone automatically, starting to feel like he was talking to his Gran rather than a seemingly supernatural entity trying to mug him for dubiously magical sand. “Can I see? Yeah, right there—if you click on that, it should call them back.”
A long pale finger carefully poked at the spot James had indicated, before raising the phone to his ear.
There was a pause.
“Ah, this one rings like a bell, not music. That's what I thought they were supposed to do.”
“Uh… Well, that's what it does on your end while it's waiting for the other person to pick up. Might be music on their end, though.”
“Oh.”
“Hob,” declared the apparition. He paused. “Yes. I retrieved my phone, but you were no longer there.” He frowned. “Yes, I was busy. I still am. …This human said that otherwise you might send me mail, and I do not receive letters in the Dreaming. …I am not certain I know how to do that. …Very well. Thirty minutes hence.”
He frowned at the phone for another long moment, before looking back at James. “Do I have to turn it off?”
“Uh… I think the other guy probably hung up on his end, so…” He craned for a glimpse at the screen. “No, you don't have to do anything. The call already disconnected.”
The apparition carefully slid the phone back into a pocket, and clasped his hands behind his back. “I thank you for your assistance,” he said solemnly. “Now, there is still the issue of the dream sand, which you may not keep.”

it is Time
for the post no one asked for but which i shall write nonetheless
now that Voyage has had time to settle, i am ready to put my thoughts into words that make some kind of cohesive sense, for my own benefit and hopefully some enjoyment for others
these are impressions gathered from the previews that Apple Music had available prior to album launch, my first listen-through during the twitch livestream with JD, as well as how all that has gelled over the last week and a half.
The Llandoger--first heard on the Jingle Jam stream and then the JJ concert, this one continues to be sheer fun. the Robbie energy is off the charts, the warmth of that refrain "we'll all be well tonight" really hits in the recorded version with the full chorus echo effect and feels like I'm hearing it live in a concert with the audience singing around me (which. will be made reality in less than three months AAAAH), there will be DANCING.
Whiskey Is the Life of Man--the banjo and the harmonies in this one are driven and intense and I really like that, but the overall sound is more growly and hard-drumming than my tastes generally lean toward. the "recording" sound effects in different places are pretty cool, and did i mention the harmonies. as;lkdjf for being my last favorite song if i were forced at plank-walking-point to rank them, I still admire the craft that went into it!
Proud Mary--this was one of the songs they did a YouTube version of that I would have been clamoring to be on the Kickstarter-unlocked studio sessions album if it hadn't already been on the Voyage tracklist, and the Voyage version is even richer. Instant head bopping, 10/10 no notes very excited to have this on my Spotify playlists now <3
Leaving of Liverpool--starts with a bang and loses zero of that energy. Some great a capella sections and again, very dancy. HYPED to hear this one live!
Mutiny--when I heard the preview on Apple I was happy for another comic Robbie song, and the full does not disappoint. Delightfully ironic, classic waltz with definite Sea of Thieves vibes (I say knowing only the SoT songs they've covered). I don't have a lot of words for this one but it's one of my favorites. Simply darling.
Skadi's Hammer--the Apple preview did NOT prepare me. I thought it was going to be a weird little dark song I wouldn't particularly care about beyond being happy for Andy's songwriting credit and. well. we all know how THAT turned out. you've already heard my livestream-night frothing at the mouth and I have since mostly overcome the full-body petrification that would strike me the first several times I listened to it, but AAH. the swooping shh and the drum and the harmonies and the imagery it's SO COOL if they're all going to be entirely immersive sensory experiences i need more andy songs in my headphones STAT please and thank you.
John the Red Nose--we joke about BIG HATCHETS AND CLEAVERS but that's really so fun and then the way it softens down for the last verse, giving the spare ribs to the poor? CHEF'S KISS BEAUTIFUL STRUCTURE the building and building and climax and then that gentle bit of kindness and charity als;kdjf again the ARTISTRY in the songs that couldn't even fit into my top say five or whatever is mind-blowing. the fiddle background is wonderful and the cold winter forest vibes are settling in properly after Skadi's harvest time.
Greenland Whale Fisheries--new harmonies! more deaths! a breath of fresh sea air after our visit to the forest! all good things in their familiar a capella trad style we love to see it
White Frontier--and now the seas have turned cold and the wind has picked up and the drums drums in the deep wait sorry wrong lore. the chorus absolutely slaps despite being about a lot of death. this doesn't quite hit my top tracks when I sit down and think about it, but it sure gets stuck in my head more than you'd expect for all that...xD
One Hundred Feet--a;sldkfjas;ldkfj;sadlk skadi's hammer hit me physically, but this one hit my feels. classic TLJ vibes. a pleasure to the ears, a wringing of the ol' heartstrings. i'm in love. there's something so comforting about Robbie's sad singing, isn't there? and the harmonies on that one change-up bit in a chorus near the end are absolute perfection. can't sing this one's praises enough.
Willie Taylor--girlboss time ft. some fun sound effects! dally dilly dumm dilly dumm dum dum dum dally dilly dum dilly all the wayyyy. a little funky for my tastes in places but not much more than Bonny Ship the Diamond which I sometimes have a hankering for regardless. I'm not clear on whether she killed Willie's new bride-to-be or not but I'd rather not know. Nicely eases you out of sad feels and gets you ready for funtimes.
Maggie's Ship--I believe this is what the people call a 'banger'? heavy on the cymbals but the slap bass goes hard. cacophonic in places, especially the end but. survivable. And a fun character sketch, Dave's lyric work here is delightfully twisty!
Shawneetown--what can I say. harmonies. stompability. pure joy. never gets old love love love.
Paddy West--THE closer of closers. restful without a jarring drop of momentum, engaging and funny to keep up the positive vibes of the last few songs, and the gradual attenuation at the end is BEAUTIFULLY done.
Overall I really admire how there's songs for such a variety of tastes on here, the artistry on display within that variety, and how structured the flow of the songlist is. It feels just like its name--truly a voyage in song.

I just had the most amazing idea for Fazbear Estate: imagine if some of the Freddys got together and formed an a capella group for fun.
Look, all the Freddy Fazbears are vocalists, so it would make sense for them to all bond over that. Only thing is, I'm not quite sure WHICH of the Freddys would form this group.
Also, I imagine the rest of the animatronic models would be... a little miffed that the Freddys formed a band ENTIRELY out of other Freddys. Just a little. Some take a little too personally...
... Honestly, this could be an entire story arc within the Estate's timeline. I just need to figure out who's in the group first.

hi lucie i have a silly question 4 you... do you have a favourite variation of matty groves? this could include melodic/lyrical/naming variations or even mix and match them! just curious since i'm most familiar with the shady groves variation as popularized by the fairport convention but im sure you know all kinds of long forgotten field recordings that dont get enough love 🪕
hi cleo!! sorry this took me so long to get to but!! my personal favourites are the joan baez version (bc i love everything she's ever done lol) and jean ritchie and doc watson's respective versions bc they sound so stripped down and real in that tradfolk sense. jean's has a ton of verses i'd never heard before (i like how she uses "we" in the first verse ie "we all did go to the old church house," it makes it feel more personal, and how the explanation for why lord arnold is away is "he went to the academy some language for to learn" bc it's funny lol) and she sings it completely a capella which i think adds to the atmosphere of the song. i like doc's for similar reasons, it has that great fingerpicked guitar so it's not quite as stripped down but he still sings it really straight ahead and honest. he also speeds it up a little which gives it a little more bounce and drive which i appreciate seeing as it can be such a long song lol. anyway!! adding spotify links for your perusal i hope u enjoy!!

Hello once again Arcadekitten ^^, so I wonder how Capella's wooden hand would function. Given it's a wooden prosthetic and all. Have a good day as well :)
It works similar to any other prosthetic! Their world is full of magic, so I'm sure her hand has some kind of enchantment or other to make it functional. But it could move just like other prosthetics could

GBV 40

It's a popular wink-wink-nod-nod joke among the diehard Guided By Voices fanbase that dedicated GBV fandom is #notacult (but kind of a cult). You'd think that Robert Pollard and company were in on the joke, considering they decided to celebrate 40 years of the band's existence at a venue built by a 14-group Masonic Temple Association, which is a true story and not the name of the band's new single. As a full disclosure converted GBV head who has in the past attended Heedfest, the band's long-running fan weekend chock full of cover sets and Miller Lites, this first weekend in September absolutely felt like an extension of it, a full-on celebration of all things Guided By Voices. Celebrity superfan Paddy Considine came from overseas with his son Joe, playing a covers set at the Yellow Cab Tavern in Dayton's Oregon District. During the encore of GBV's first night at the Dayton Masonic Center, Scott Marshall (of Chavez fame), Matador Records Director of Digital, A&R Jake Whitener, and GBV manager David Newgarden presented Pollard with a "Most Valuable Lead Singer" trophy. Even Dinosaur Jr.'s J Mascis, normally reserved, gave the crowd a half-hearted "G! B! V!" chant during the band's opening set. Miller Lites at the venue (along with most other beer) cost a measly $6 per can, a bargain in 2023. During the second night, Pollard took a moment to thank the alcohol distributor, who may or may not have been stocking his personal cooler full of beer bottles and the once-again passed around Jose Cuervo. What's for sure is those bottles were fueling Pollard's high-kicks, 2022 busted knee be damned. Always different, always the same: It was The Fall. Is it now Guided By Voices?

Yes, the same spirit pervades GBV: In a recent beginner's guide to the band, Uproxx critic Steven Hyden described them as having "one foot in the bowling alley, and another foot in the art gallery," whether that's the band's early R.E.M.-indebted material, lo-fi golden era, Aughts arena rock attempts, or the current, arguably most prolific late-career lineup. The quartet of guitarists Doug Gillard and Bobby Bare Jr., bassist Mark Shue, and drummer Kevin March is certainly the most formidable group of instrumentalists to ever back Pollard, and his songwriting on this lineup's albums has notably embraced the proggier, more epic side of his forebears. During the band's anniversary concerts, they paid curatorial attention to these newfound favorites just as much as the "Motor Away" and "Tractor Rape Chain"s: the tempo-changing "Alex Bell", bopping "Dance of Gurus", and even absurdist poem "Razor Bug", delivered a capella by Pollard and Shue. Pollard also admitted how the band tackles the old imperfections, joking that March made sure to play all the original studio version "fuck-ups" from "My Impression Now".

But GBV also had work to do. This year so far, they've released two albums, La La Land and live-to-tape gem Welshpool Frillies, and purportedly (shocker) have two more in the can. Only this band could garner this much crowd enthusiasm by opening a four-decade celebration with the first three songs from their latest album, but when they're as good as the jagged "Meet the Star", cascading "Cruisers' Cross", and Cheap Trick-meets-Crazy Horse ripper "Romeo Surgeon", it doesn't really matter, does it? The sets in general were treated like a normal GBV marathon, featuring but not overwhelmingly dominated by their most recent output. Gillard's trademark guitars chimed through the sludgy "Seedling", while La La Land's "Queen of Spaces" offered a necessarily languid breather between "Everybody Thinks I'm a Raincloud (When I'm Not Looking)" and "Motor Away". To my pleasure, on night two, the band played La La Land closer "Pockets", a song about exactly what you think, that nonetheless exemplifies Pollard's ethos: As long as you have a sense of wonder and a penchant for songwriting, you can maintain constant creativity. Songwriting can be a daily exercise.

Built to Spill
Throughout the celebration, Pollard expressed thanks for past and present incarnations of GBV (joking that the current youngins help him up the stairs) as well as the other bands joining the celebration. The inspired lineup was a mix of 90's contemporaries (Dinosaur Jr,, Built to Spill), Dayton connections (the birthplace of Heartless Bastards' Erika Wennerstrom and Dino J.'s Lou Barlow), and new indie rock royalty (Kiwi Jr., Wednesday). Dinosaur Jr., Marshalls stacked upon Marshalls, treated the crowd to eternity-long fuzz jams heavy on their earliest albums, from "Gargoyle" and their faithful "Just Like Heaven" cover to "The Lung" and "Freak Scene". The next night, Built to Spill also offered a set with plenty of guitar solos and extended intros and codas, respectively bookending the set on the slow-burning "Stop The Show" and eternal "Carry The Zero". As for their (sort-of) cover, they chose The Halo Benders' "Virginia Reel Around the Fountain" and not Heartless Bastards' "The Mountain" since, well, the real thing had played right before them.

Heartless Bastards
Heartless Bastards are not a band you'd normally associate with 90's indie rock, though I wouldn't have expected Built to Spill bassist Melanie Radford to sing Wennerstrom's part so convincingly last time I saw BTS. Wennestrom and Martsch came out with Heartless Bastards on night two for "The Mountain", but I saw where the Texas-via-Ohio rockers fit in with the band lineup even more on other songs. Yes, their brand of blues-rock is unique, not quite punchy, certainly eschewing raw psychedelia for grooves or high and lonesome country. But while Wennerstrom's throaty singing led the hazy "Photograph", the song's instrumental outro with gorgeous guitar work snuggled beside Wednesday and Built to Spill. And the chugging back catalog highlight "Gray" came across almost like a GBV ripper with keyboards.

Wednesday
And then there were the up and comers. Toronto's Kiwi Jr. combined the instrumental concision of GBV with the storytelling of a band like Wednesday. They took from their three very good records, concentrating on their Sub Pop albums Cooler Returns and Chopper in their brief set, contextualizing "Maid Marian's Toast" and "The Sound of Music" (about insurance fraud and Christopher Plummer), easing the crowd into a night of clatter. Wednesday, meanwhile, was the unabashed non-GBV highlight of the entire festival, the band that converted the unfamiliar and justified those of us who have hyped them up. Their quintessential country-gaze was on full display from the moment they queued up the buzz saws of "Hot Rotten Grass Smell". "Chosen to Deserve" was the bonafide ne'er-do-well anthem, the song of the summer for the bad kids, Xandy Chelmis absolutely slaying on pedal steel. Of course, lead vocalist Karly Hartzman's drawl-cum-yodel was the perfect medium to communicate stories of people dying in Planet Fitness parking lots, getting electrocuted by your own house, and toothless men on oxygen tanks smoking cigarettes. But it was "Bull Believer" that absolutely brought the house down, tears in the eyes of people who had never heard the song before. In a rare move on a normally apolitical GBV stage, Hartzman decried the nadirs of the nation, from the return of student loan payments to the policing of Black and Brown and LGBTQ+ bodies. She invited the crowd to scream along in anger as she beckoned "Finish him!" Perhaps that's what even implored Pollard to, out of nowhere between "Twilight Campfire" and "To Keep An Area", declare, "We live in a shitty country...Everything is crooked as fuck!" It was a small moment, perhaps inconsequential, but one that really hammered down for me that after all these years, Pollard's done what he's always done: change.

@ed you in the replies on my post then realized that was the worst possible way in the world to communicate with another person. Anyway did you say pathologic TLT AU 👀??
HEHE YES a lot of it is very loose thoughts but I think these series connect so well thematically that it's very fun for me to think about so far what I have is;
Second house: Necro: Aglaya, Cav: Block, not super solid on the placement of these two but the military format fits and I think the idea of a necromancer and cav who don't get along but are Super dedicated to their duty and are both top of their field would be an interesting dynamic
Third house: Stamatin twins, Peter as the necro and Andrey as the cav, these two are so Tridentarii coded it's ABSURD, I think the way they each view the polyhedron would be interesting to transfer towards necromancy, Peter is capable of insanely powerful necromancy but it takes a 'miracle' to achieve it, I also think the parallels between Naberius and Farkhad could be interesting as well so I'd like to throw him in there somewhere, maybe he met Bab's fate earlier on as a botched lytorhood attempt or perhaps Andrey wanted him out so he could be cavalier prime dunno. Not sure if they would become a lyctor or not, I feel like they'd both be all for the process but given how doomed all their projects are I feel like it just wouldn't end up working out, or at least not in the way they want it to
Fourth house: Capella, Khan, and Notkin are all kind of currently rotating positions for this one, I think Capella and Khan's idea that they need to start on this predestined path and be great leaders already despite being literally children and how this indirectly pushes Notkin into that as well is very 4th house like
Fifth House: I think I'm putting Necro Artemy and Cav Rubin here, I think Isidor was the necromancer prime with Rubin as his cav but when he died that got shifted to Artemy, I think his nature as a humble makes Rubin well suited for a cavalier but I think he'd have the same internal conflicts he does normally about Artemy being suddenly given Isidor's role, and Artemy having his same personal journey about his role. I do think Artemy becomes a lyctor though and the more I'm thinking about it is probably one of the better adjusted ones in this au?
Sixth House: Necro Daniil and Cav Eva, you KNOW Daniil would go crazy not only for necromancy in general but the concept of lyctorhood, complete and total mastery over death? Sounds great to him sure hope there aren't any tragic drawbacks! Ultimately I think Daniil isn't capable of becoming a lyctor without a push and I think Eva ends up sacrificing herself for that because she thinks it's their destiny so Daniil ends up getting what he originally wanted but with a lot of guilt attached. On a goofy silly note I think Eva's not actually that good of a cavalier she was just the only one Daniil could get along with
Seventh House: Necromancer Grace is here :) sorry despite this literally being my favorite house that's all I've got dfgdfgkh
Eighth House: Not sure for this one either honestly, leaning towards the Saburovs for their themes of judgement and religious control, regardless I think Katerina in this au is maybe not full on pretending to be a lyctor but definitely still has the issue of trying to seem more powerful than she is
Ninth House: Necromancer Clara and her Cavalier, her twin sister also named Clara isn't that crazy? Nobody's seen the 9th house twins in the same place at the same time and Clara does become a lyctor later on so was she always a lyctor? who's to say. I think in this au the locked tomb contains something more in line with The Powers That Be or perhaps even further The Ones That Executed The Whole Thing but I'm not sure beyond tying it in to Clara's meta awareness, plus she would Thrive in the 9th house's faux Catholicism environment, I know she goes hard with the skull paint
Other Misc Things:
Mark Immortell as John, what if god was a theather kid would that be fucked up or what
Simon was a lyctor and the Kains are definitely doing some fucked up shit to try and reachieve that
I'd like the blood of eden to be in this au somehow and I'd like the fellow traveler to be in this au somehow, that's as far as I've gotten with both those thoughts
I think Lara and Aspity both have a lot of good potential roles in this au I'm just not sure where to put them exactly
any sort of plot stuff is VERY vague rn, canaan house setup at the start I like thinking about and I'd like to tie the sand pest in Somehow
Maybe the polyhedron can host a soul for literal real this time
Anyways this is all extremely messy I just love the way these two series potentially blend together it's very fun for me dkgjdfjg

since you have headcanons regarding Notkin and Khan's orientation, do you happen to have them for the other kids too (including Catnip and Dandy)?
i don't have them for all of the kids because i don't spend much time like #thinking about this for them mostly. i do for the khan capella notkin & his two sbires gang because because i do have thoughts and thoughts processes about their lives when they Inherit The Earth (annoying edition) & the annoying dynamics they have i've already talked about capella i'm almost sure i've already mentioned Clara too (both of those lesbians). i think grace likes girls but whatever that is is not my problem. her real parents don't gaf (due to the Being dead thing) and her new dad loves that for her.
i think catnip's also gay. bless her heart. in my +5yrs designs i gave her riding pants & boots because that's what i gave Aysa in ATA. who's also a ginger & a lesbian in my mind's eye. forming some kind of club out there. dandy is 🤷‍♂️. he's just 🤷‍♂️. for now & in his twenties he doesn't give that much of a shit. undecided on whether he's just not into people like that periot or if he's bi & he just hasn't found anyone who interests him in that way. for now he's into making bets with his sister and so far losing because she has a better nose for those things. i think sticky's in that same type of situation where i don't have any set thought about him because 1) don't think about it that much. frankly. 2) i think it takes him a while to figure it out because 1.a) he takes on his father the like. "i'm probably [x] but i'm married to my work rn [literally never went to college]". he's married to the grind 💯 1.b) he cares less about relationships than he does his place as a doctor which he takes very very seriously. he's more interested in seeing really gross surgeries than he is people in a romantic context. love that for him

Hey wonderful peeps, today marks the almost anniversary of my first ever video on youtube!! (The actual date is April 18th) I've had a lot of fun making videos this past year, and with 41 videos posted I posted one just about every week which I'm very proud of!!!
That said, the past month or so I've not been putting out videos that I'm really proud of. I know I can do better, and I want to! Buuuut… well, life, work, stuff 😛 The production I'm on right now has been kicking my butt and I've just not had the energy to do anything but play video games 🤡
I'm gonna take a bit of a break from posting videos. Maybe a month or so? I'm not sure. This was a surprisingly difficult decision to make, even though I am a very strong believer that "REST!!!!" is one of the most important things you can do for yourself. My biggest fear in taking a break is not coming back to youtube, and this channel being another entry in a long, long, ever expanding list of projects I started that I never finished.
But- I made 41 videos already, over the course of a year!! I think that's actually really cool!! I even made an a capella cover song over the holidays!! At the end of the day, this channel is called "stuff i make because I'm bored", not "stuff I force myself to do even though I'm exhausted". I know I'll be back. Bigger than before!! Maybe 😜
Thanks for all your support! And I'll see you in the next video!! Byyyeeeeee!!!!
