I have been thinking about fandom recently, and remember discovering fan fic and art at 11 or 12 in the mid 90’s. I always thought, “Ok, I have this long to enjoy it before I get to (insert life event here) and I am too old for it. My friends/family/significant other won’t like it.”

How much angst I would have saved myself if I had just realized then that was total bull.

I’m an adult, I can do whatever I want that will make me happy, so long as it doesn’t effect anyone else’s ability to be happy.

And I have an amazing husband who teases me about my “ficcins,” but when I went head first down the stairs 2 weeks ago had me tell him about the current fic I was reading while we waited to see if it was safe to go to sleep. (I don’t know if he was truly baffled or if my concussed self was making less sense than usual, but his reactions were amusing.)

So to my 12yo self, and whoever else needs to hear it be you young or old:

Don’t let anyone make you feel bad for enjoying fanworks, not even yourself!

5. What’s the fic you’re most proud of?

I’ll start in the... let’s call it “slightly more modern” period, I AM proud of some of my old shames but I won’t be digging them up, hahaha.

I’m really proud of Those Lacking Spines still. It’s been a very long time and I’ve gone nowhere near the KH fandom or games in years, but I’ve gotten a lot of wonderful compliments from people over the years saying that it brightened their time and made them laugh, which is so flattering. I wrote it under a pseudonym so the fact that it was me still isn’t super widely known, but I’m glad I managed to finish that weird little relic.

Then I took a really long life-related break from ficcin’, and my comeback story, All Along The Watchtower, is my newest “most proud of.” I’m proud of how quickly I wrote it and how I managed to cobble together a cohesive mystery, and that I accomplished just all kinds of personal wants and character wishes in it. And finally paid tribute to longtime fav Nick Valentine.

9. Which character(s) do you find most difficult to write?

I seem to be really picky about which characters I can write for. I do fandom RP sometimes and I’m picky about who I can play over there, too, but who I can RP and who I can write fic about seems a bit whimsical sometimes, like there’s weird reasons for each.

Fallout-wise, I have trouble with characters who don’t have a really distinctive voice or speech pattern, or at least who I’m not really familiar with from hanging out with them in game. Hancock is probably the most popular example. I haven’t... tried writing him yet but I’m also a bit nervous to give it a shot.

12. Tell us about a WIP you’re excited about.

Well, that’d be my only current WIP, Bootyverse 2, a weeklong flirting romp with Danse and Piper feeling feels and talking about them. It’s very difference from my usual and quite a challenge, but I am having a lot of fun revising it now that I slammed out the skeleton.

Next up I’m planning another kind of AATW-flavored mystery with Nick, but it’s about a young Ellie Perkins and how she came to be his secretary. And I’m theming it after Snow White for some reason because that is appealing to me.

So I've been going through archive and I didn't realize that the fics that I read that weren't hit or miss were all yours! I absolutely adore your writing way too much and I wish I could do more than fangirl to you on anon but I am a shy bean so...

❤️❤️❤️ Anon your message made me so happy! I am smiling so big that you like my writing, and it’s ok to be shy.

I needed to hear this too because I was recently treated for tendinitis in my hand 😞 and feeling a little down about that. I haven’t been able to write using a keyboard as much and writing fic on mobile is really hard. So I have to wait a little while for that to go away completely before diving back to ficcin’ and updates. I can write roleplay story responses on mobile easily though so you can check @notonlykira if you want more writing to read.

But when I can start fic back up in earnest again (like hopefully just a few more days!) I will have much motivation knowing that you like my stuff. Thanks for telling me 😘
