Ferrari GTO Evoluzione, 1988, by Michelotto. Originally designed as a Group B sports car racing version of the 288 GTO, however when those regs were scrapped in 1986 the project was shelved. It had been the last GT racing Ferrari to receive direct input from Enzo and was powered by a 650bhp twin-turbo 2.9-litre V8 with bodywork made from carbon fibre and kevlar. Michelotto was going to build the GTO Evoluzione at a rate of 20 per year but in fact only 5 were made with one Evoluzione used as a prototype for the road-going F40.

Cercasi proprietario per vettura leggendaria che si prospetta come la Ferrari più costosa ad essere battuta all’asta. Le vostre fosche pupille non v’ingannano, è lei: l’unica GTO prima serie factory-owned e che ha corso con la Scuderia Ferrari. Il palmares come potete ben immaginare è piuttosto florido, con un secondo posto alla 1000km del Nürburgring del 1962 e una partecipazione alla 24h di Le Mans dello stesso anno, guidata da Mike Parkes e Lorenzo Bandini. Dopo essere stata di proprietà del presidente del Ferrari Club of America ha anche vinto qualche cosina negli shows dedicati alle auto, come un best of show al concorso d’eleganza di Amelia Island. Bastano queste poche ma gustose informazioni a farvi prenotare un volo per New York per l’asta di RM Sotheby’s del 13 novembre prossimo e farvi alzare la paletta per far decollare la base d’asta che si prospetta intorno ai 60 milioni di dollari? Forse no, ma sognare è così bello…
