Ok this one was a long time coming. I hired and dismissed these pawns way too many times because I got Ren茅 plagued, and then there were some nasty accidents...it was a whole thing.
Anyway, I played with @thehappiestgolucky's Fe'gahl and @kuruna's Galapagos this time, but I think the dragonsplague might have some lingering effects on Ren茅 because he was strangely grumpy, especially with Fe'gahl.
Tumblr media
So grumpy. (Don't worry, I made sure he was actually clean of plague before hiring anyone.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We journeyed in Battahl for a while because I was looking for golems. But guess what? There were none to be found! I even went to Agamen! Zilch! Nothing! So couldn't do Galapagos's quest. :c I escorted Lamond here and there instead.
On the way back from Battahl, poor Fe'gahl got tossed into the brine by a rattler. Then, when I went to get the uno reverse card achievement on the Medusa, Galapagos got got ;A; I rehired them both but damn what rotten luck.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fe'gahl looks awesome as an archer though. He and Ren茅, despite whatever weird rivalry they had going on, work exceptionally well together. I can't get enough of having multiple archers in my party! They're so much fun.
Tumblr media
Also I hope you don't mind me saying so but MAN Galapagos is so photogenic! Extremely high-tier aesthetics. (I recently got some QoL stuff like freecam! Can you tell?)
He's also fantastic at shredding undead, pinning enemies, and generally being an incredible front-liner. Nobody gets hurt with him around!
Tumblr media
But Keaton, pawns don't have money,,
Yeah, of course I bought them a round. What am I, heartless? Who could say no to those little faces?
Tumblr media
We zipped between Sacred Arbor and Bakbattahl for That One Quest (you know the one) and-- uh, Galapagos? What are you doing?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeah I don't think these three get along the bestest... Calm + Calm + Simple apparently isn't a very harmonious combination.
I think Galapagos is less involved in this weird rivalry. He's just kind of...stuck in the middle a lot of the time, poor guy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This party is chaos and I think these pics encapsulate it best. Excellent in battle, very effective, no notes. But as soon as the battle ends, it looks like Ren茅 and Fe'gahl just start fighting.
Tumblr media
Simple/Calm dynamic + same vocation rivalry...but to be fair, I think Ren茅 snubbed Fe'gahl first. (I think he got too used to being the only pawn back when he had the plague - he gets real pouty whenever another pawn gets a high five now. ._. )
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At the end of the day, though, they get along okay enough to fall asleep together in a pawn pile, so I guess all's well that ends well?

I am holding them at you very politely I'm gonna have such a long ramble about them I need to talk about them even if its not coherent-
There is spoilers. You are warned
DD:DA
Tumblr media
For my DD verse DD:DA and DD2 are in the same world and timeline. DD:DA took place long before Vermund and was basically a crack in the cycle before it shattered in DD2.
Odessa in DD:DA was 12, Cassardis village kid who was more raised by her village because her parents were dead (universal constant of Odessa sweetie Im so sorry). Her will is like a goddamn supernova compared to most other Arisen - especially the ones in her world. When she stook against Grigori the first time around mostly everyone didn't even want to believe it because like - thats a child. A child that got chosen as Arisen, survived fight against a goddamn giant dragon. So she was often met with far more scrutiny because despite the scar being very real and pawns very much heeding her command - very few adults actually believed in her ability to slay the Dragon.
Agira is her main pawn, who had a failed Arisen before but that is a scar on his back from long ago. The previous Arisen didn't mark too much of their will onto him - being of pretty little will, so relatively despite having a failed Arisen he's fairly trauma free. For now. When he was first summoned her was confused - because that is a child. Then simply did his role for a bit. He was her main pawn, and so he would serve as such. Agira is a methodical, deadpan man that does his job to the letter to a high ability - whos intellect gets neglected by others because he's a pawn (hes very smart).
Odessa does as Odessa always does, helps as many people as possible and complete the goal of killing the Dragon to keep people safe. She's never had love for nobility and less so when the invitation to the Duke's Demense happened. She's mocked, belittled, and the Duke had little interest in what she could do. It frustrates her, angers her - she's a little kid with a lot of emotions. She wants any kind of adult to believe in her and projects very hardly on Agira seeing him as her father instead of just her main pawn.
Agira - never had a kid, never thought he could have a kid, never even entertained it - sort of rejected the notion at first, continued to refer to her as simply Master or Arisen. He was a pawn, first and forever, not a father. But obviously that never stays the case, and as the two aid more people, get closer to facing the Dragon - she's as good as his daughter. The goal changed from simply aiding the Arisen in defeating the Dragon - and helping his daughter free herself of her charge and live a normal human life again. He adores her, something he never thought possible.
He's actually abducted as the choice she has to make - her fathers life or fight Grigori. Not that Agira minded which she chose really - because he would happily sacrifice his life if it meant she got out unscathed. But he knows Odessa - and she's never backed down from a fight ever. And when she plunged that last strike into Grigori nothing but a sense of overwhelming pride filled him.
Odessa up to this point is a stressed but managing kid - not really too traumatised. Sorta. But oh boy! World becomes green and Bitterblack Isle opens up yippee!!
When they returned to Cassardis after the fight, Odessa beelined for Gran Soren relieved Cassardis hadn't been destroyed. So she was devastated when she saw the giant hole where so many people once lived. Duke tries to kill a child. Fails miserably. Odessa falls in hole and this poor kid is slowly figuring out her world is. Fucked up. Why is it looping.
But before she even finishes the Everfall she goes back to Cassardis to talk to the mysterious woman who appeared on the pier anight and gets yeeted into Bitterblack Isle. And it is hell. She's constantly seeing the corpses and corpses of previous Arisen, people like her - much older than her, dead and defeated on the ground. No hope in their remaining echos. She reads entries of an Arisen gone mad, realising the Death who follows her was just. Like her.
And the truth of the cycle begins to unravel to her, even after defeating Daimon the lines of corpses of Arisen and Pawn haunt her. She only knew of three before her - yet how many simply never made it back? Simply never lived to tell? And ascended to the fight against the Seneschal didn't help at all. The truth laid bare before this kid, that the cycle demands destruction from the Dragon and for an Arisen to get as far as she did. And she knew so, so many - never did.
Its when she and Agira are alone in the place - when she has no idea how much time has passed and what has happened - when she realises she'll have to call a Dragon to repeat the cycle. She takes matters into her own hands.
Imagine watching your child plunge a god killing blade into her heart...
Agira wakes up on the beach, distraught, devastated - lost at what to do yet feeling more human than ever before. And for a while he lives a normal life before ending up back in Bitterblack Isle.
See in my DD verse Odessa's will managed to linger as Seneschal for a while - enough for another Arisen to take her place. But she had chipped the ring, exposed a crack the Greater Will needed to fix. Gransys became unmoored, with Bitterblack Isle unaffected because it exists outside the cycle - and a new land lay on top of the sunked world. The cycle would begin anew...
DD2
Tumblr media
So surprise! The Greater Will tried to get rid of any lingering will of Odessa and for a while it seemed to work, and whilst the cycle got changed because Rothais took advantage of the crack now there from 1st Odessa - the new established cycle seemed to fix that. I headcanon that the Pathfinder is just a backup plan for when Arisen now diverge too much from their intended path - like Odessa 1 and Rothais.
Odessa from DD2 is the reincarnation, from how much Odessa's will to live was just that strong. Luckily this time she wasn't made Arisen as a child - and was a soldier for Vernworth before becoming Arisen. Losing her memories sucked.
Fe'gahl is her main pawn this time - mostly a healer and always getting exasperated at her reckless antics. He cared for Odessa as just a pawn would at first, but as their journey went on helping so many people - the more his care turned from duty to emotion. It really did not help when she's always referring to him as her brother. He doesn't know what a family is like - pawns don't have those, and he's not sure he's being a 'brother' right - but it feels good and he adores the title with all his heart.
Odessa has a consistent nature of hating giving commands to pawns as though they're fodder - and as her independant will rubs off on Fe'gahl she's delighted when he passively makes more decisions for himself. He's careful, thinks on his feet - but starts inheriting her more reckless traits of putting others healths before his.
Her journey is less filled with mockery than her first incarnation. Odessa is a grown woman with command, fiercness and determination that is hard to belittle. Whilst her goal is the Dragon she's always had this nagging feeling in the back of her mind that there's something more - that rushing the Dragon like the Pathfinder urges her too isn't the play so she doesn't.
Unlike Agira 'deny it until you can't', Fe'gahl leans into his bond with Odessa, practically becoming inseperable from her as he looks to her as his guiding light. Until of course - they are seperated.
See Fe'gahl is terrified of her dying , and when they finally confronted the Dragon his fear was ringing alarm bells in his head. She promised him she'd not die - for all her recklessness she wasn't planning on it. But her eyes changed when she wielded the Godsbane. He felt it.
When she got the blade, she got glimpses of the first incarnation. The kid that tried to run from the cycle and was the reason she existed at all. Odessa felt that truth of the world waver when she held it and knew what she had to do. Even if it seemed like an alien idea.
The Dragon vaguely knew Odessa I like to think - why he begs her to do what she has to do and break the cycle in its entirety. He's not Grigori - but he knows this will is the same will that caused the cracks in the first place. I've always loved how he curls protectivly around the Arisen ough...
So Unmoored world! Horrors 2! It plays out the same as in game. Fe'gahl the entire time is in a constant on edge state - the seperation making a deep pit of unease in him - and yet he's never seen Odessa so determined and single track minded.
And for the final bought - their fight to break the cycle forever and show that the world doesn't need this constant state of destruction and fighting to show its will to live is strong - Fe'gahl is wholeheartidly ready to throw his life away for her.
But then again so is Odessa.
Post DD2
If there ends up being a dlc with more stuff maybe this'll change, but for now this is my post game canon.
For starters - Agira finally got to leave Bitterblack Isle, not sure how much time has passed, only to see the world of Vermund and Battahl and wonder what. The fuck happened. But he makes a new life for himself here - starting a village between the two countries that was a safe haven for lost pawns and people who needed the help and care. And after rescueing the remains of an attack village - he holds a small baby Odessa (just lost her parents again rip) in his hands again and whilst he doesn't know how she's come back from the dead - adopts and raises her like he always wanted to way back then.
Fe'gahl... doesn't do too well at the start. He survives through Odessa's will to let him live in the world they saved. Heartbroken isn't strong enough to describe how ruined he is at that point. He is found unconcious on the beach again by Phaesus and holes himself up for months from the heartache. He was ready to die for Odessa. And he's the only one of the two here now.
He takes a while to recover - mostly from the help of the friends and comrades he's made along the way, who are just as saddened from the loss of Odessa but at the state of him. Slowly he comes back out - encourage to take care of himself to take care of plants gifted to him. Eventually he starts out living for Odessa's wish to see him alive - because its easier to rationalise his existance that way first.
When he recovers enough to live for himself, returning to his normal self - he begins to travel again. He eventually stops at a village between the borders and settles there - noticing and freezing at the sight of a small, 6 year old Odessa.
I'd say the post ending is like 16 odd years later?? Maybe even 14. A good few years for Agira to start establishing a village and Odessa being reincarnated again, Fe'gahl to recover and hang around in Bahkbattahl and Vernworth before setting on his own to find his own place in life he wants. Odessa the 3rd vaguely knows the two from her past lives - she knows she can trust them and Agira is her dad and Fe'gahl is brother.
Also idk how pawns age, you get old pawns so like. Agira is 35 in DD:DA in physical and mental place - and he's like mid to late 40s in DD2 despite pawns not actually aging. I think. Fe'gahl is early 20s - whilst he's wise Agira is older in like every way compared to him. Odessa is once again 12 - but the cycle is shattered completely so there's no risk of her being Arisen this time. She still wields big swords and has dreams of protecting everyone she knows forever.

yes i do have a cope save where i can have both of them and pretend they're all ok why do you ask-

For the ask game, Arisen #2 and World & Story #4?
Arisen #2. What is their favorite and least favorite part of being the Arisen?
Favourite thing is the status. Not around being the Sovran mind, or Vermunds elevated noble view of the Arisen, but the status that makes people more likely to seek out her help. Odessa lives, breathes and bleeds to help people in anyway she can - because if she isn't helping people then who is she really - so she has a guilty appreciation for the elevated status of Arisen. People seek her aid because she's Arisen, she helps them without hesitation and hopefully makes their lives better or easier, more people want to seek out her aid and so on. She knows trying to help as a random stranger would more often get her ignored than actually helping. Typically her least favourite thing would be the other end of the elevated status of Arisen, she has no desire to be a noble and would only begrudgingly become Sovran since it was the highest position she could help the most in. But its not. Her least favourite thing about being Arisen is the strange sense of familiarity she has with the role. Like she's done this before - many many many cycles ago. Her lack of heartbeat doesn't faze her, she wasn't even scared facing the Dragon to become Arisen in the first place. It was like seeing an old friend. Unfinished business with the cycle she can't quite place.
The sense of familiarity with it all haunts her more than any plot Disa could come up with.
World & Story # 4. Whether they鈥檇 still be together or separate - What kind of life would they be living if they were not Arisen and Pawn, but NPCs?
They're both written to be defined to the link of the cycle and breaking it but imagening them as just in game NPCs is interesting.
Odessa would be in Vernworth and Fe'gahl would be in Battahl, both in a determined opposition to events happening in both places. Odessa would be a soldier who stands up regularly for the poor and beastren because she despises how they get mistreated - whilst Fe'gahl feels like he would've moved to Battahl for safety and disagree with the view on pawns. A willing healer to all who need it because he firmly believes life is precious and should be preserved - disagreeing for any mistreatment for anyone different from them.
I like to think they'd have a quest that links them together and they leave their cities to become travelers to help those in need after getting fed up with their respective places. Maybe you'd even encounter them on the road.
The ask meme can be found here if you want to drop an ask!
