The Basilio Poll
Here at UGA, I like to make polls for everything! Our latest point of discussion: Should Basilio be allowed to marry the mothers, or would that result in a paradox?
Argument for:
Basilio doesn't die in the original timeline until the war in Valm, against Walhart. We know that Emmeryn was successfully assassinated in Chapter 6 (Forseer) in the original timeline, which led to the first war against Plegia dragging on for much longer, but we don't know exactly how long that would have been. Theoretically, Basilio could have been more involved with the first Plegian war and had a kid with someone before dying to Walhart upon arriving in Valm.
Argument against:
You can't start Basilio's supports until after he would have died in the original timeline, because he isn't in your army prior to this event, meaning it wouldn't be possible for him to be married and have a kid before he was supposed to die originally. If Basilio is supposed to have kids and he hasn't yet, it doesn't make sense for Lucina to be worried about him dying yet. She has evidence death can be delayed, but from her experience it is still inevitable.
If your answer is more nuanced that a simple yes/no, please go into more detail in either the notes or the comments!

Yahoo! We’ve got a baby train going again! Can we please get a fic of Basilio?
(I missed this big lug so much ;;; ____ ;;; )
Flavia had been teasing Basilio for months about how much of a worrywart he’d become. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that his wife, whom he was three heads taller than, had really started to feel the effects of pregnancy.
From the seventh month of your pregnancy, you’d adopted “the waddle”, seeing as it had gotten increasingly difficult to walk about with a healthy baby that just kept growing.
You’d also started to become more averse to food and drink you used to adore, which had perhaps been the most frightening thing to change. It was very touch and go, trying to figure out what you’d want to eat (or what you could and couldn’t) each day. Then came the mood swings, the random bouts of illness, and the aches and pains that came with the changes to your body.
Basilio had gone from cheery and energetic to fretting far more often than not; long sighs replaced his laughter, and his days of training were typically replaced with doting on you by staying at your side, for fear of you being hurt or needing his help.
But now he was at the peak of worry. You’d gone into labor about two hours past midnight, all during a blizzard swirling around Ferox, no less. Basilio had burst out of the bedroom with his poor wife in his arms, carrying you straight to the medical wing of the castle while shouting that the queen was in labor.
You handled the labor like a champ, but it was quite clear that you were in terrible pain. Basilio could see as much when he was in the room with you. You’d taken his hand into yours in a death grip, and you were struggling with the contractions as any mother-to-be would.
“You’re doin’ great, sweetheart-” Basilio tried to comfort you, though he could only do so much from the sidelines besides riding out the waves of pain with you. “You’re doin’ just fine!”
“Lord Khan, we need more ice water.” The midwife told him before you could so much as eek out a response behind clenched teeth. Basilio looked up at her, troubled.
“You mean I’ve gotta go get it? Can’t you send anybody else?”
“We’re still waiting on help from the capital- the snow and the time of day has made it difficult for the clerics to come. We’re spread thin as-is…”
“I get it,” He sighed, looking back at you. You were able to look up at him, though it was clear you weren’t doing well. You were frightened, and you were in pain. “I’ll be right back.”
“You h-have to go?” You held his hand a little tighter. He managed something akin to a tight smile, though even you could tell in your haze that he wasn’t aching to go.
“They’re tryin’ to get the other clerics in from the storm. ‘Til they do, I’ve gotta be the errand boy. I’ll be quick, all right? I’ll be back before you know it.”
You were able to nod, but another contraction racked your body before you could give your blessing. He stayed long enough to help you through it, before he had to peel himself away to get the necessary supplies.
Basilio grabbed two large buckets from the clerics, heading out the doors with a very troubled expression on his face. Flavia was waiting outside, Lon’qu and Lissa both in attendance as well.
“Careful- you keep worrying and you’ll lose your beard hair too.” She grinned at him, though his ashen face was far from amused. Her smile faltered some, “That bad, huh?”
“We’re shorthanded,” He explained, holding up the buckets, “They’ve got me running errands when I need to be with Robin. She’s in a lot of pain.”
“That’s not abnormal,” Flavia tilted her head, “She’s going through childbirth; it’s the greatest struggle a woman can go through. If it makes you feel any better, I did send some mages and castle staff to help clear th epath for the clerics. We’re working to get them here as fast as we can.”
“Do you think they’d let me in to help?” Lissa asked worriedly, though Lon’qu was the first to shake his head.
“You’re kind to offer, Princess, but I’m afraid Feroxi and Ylissean methods of childbirth vary quite a bit. It’s more likely the midwife would see you as an obstacle rather than helpful. It might be better if you two can get down there and see if you can help with getting the clerics through.”
“All right…if it’ll help Robin, then I’ll do whatever you need me to! Let’s go, Lon’qu.” Lissa hurried down the corridor, her Myrmidon matching her pace. Basilio glanced back at Flavia, who gestured they head the opposite direction to fulfill his own mission.
It was strange seeing the boisterous ruler so uncharacteristically quiet and anxious. He had been so excited for the baby, but now he seemed frightened that anything could go wrong.
Sensing this, Flavia clapped a hand on his shoulder while they waited in the kitchens for the buckets to be refilled.
“Enough of the long face, oaf. You’re going to frighten the staff away.”
He sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. “Can you really blame me for being anxious? It looks like hell, what Robin’s goin’ through. And it doesn’t help she’s gotta do it in the middle of a winter storm- it’s like the gods looked at her and decided Morgan’s birth was gonna be the hardest possible day of her life. And I can’t do a thing about it, y’know?”
“You can be there for her, and assist with the delivery like you are now.” She pointed out, “What matters is that you’re there. Besides, the midwife hasn’t given any indication that it’s going poorly. If anything, it’s just a matter of waiting for the delivery to start.”
“You’re saying it’s supposed to look like she’s on the verge of death the entire time?”
“Every birth I ever assisted with in my village was just like that. Except the mothers didn’t have access to the best medical staff in the whole of the kingdom.” She pointed out, giving him a strong pat on the back. “So chin up, Khan- you’re only going to stress your wife out more if you look as freaked out as she does!”
“I’m sure it hasn’t helped, huh?” He agreed, sighing again. He straightened up, taking the buckets back now that they were filled with icy water. It wasn’t a pleasant feeling given the biting chill outside, but he didn’t dare question it. If you needed ice water, you were absolutely going to get it.
The pair were about halfway back before they spotted a maid rushing towards them both, looking quite frantic.
“Milord!! The queen’s ready to push!”
“Already?!”
“It’s noon, Basilio- at least ten hours have gone by.” She rolled her eyes, “Hurry back- I’ll take these and catch up!”
The Khan wasted absolutely no time, breaking into a sprint the second the pails of water were out of his hands. It was finally happening- you were moments away from the end of the journey.
It wasn’t much longer before he was back where they started, pushing through the heavy doors to find that he was not only in the throes of your delivery starting, but that Lissa was inside and at your bedside, coaching you through the pushing.
The delivery had already begun.
“Robin, I’m back! I’m here!!” Basilio said over the chaos of the midwife and clerics, taking Lissa’s place with a quick nod of thanks.
“The path is cleared- Lon’qu’s guiding them back, so they’ll be here in no time to come help Robin! I came back early to see if I could help.” Lissa explained quickly, an exhilarated smile on her face. “She’s doing great, Basilio! Morgan’s almost here!”
“Right,” He smiled back at her, before returning his full attention to his wife. You were staring at him with a notable spark of fear in your eyes, which he did wish he could wipe away.
“Y’hear that, Robin? We’re gettin’ close to the end of the road. Just a few pushes and we’ll have Morgan here, at last!”
“Y-yeah, I heard, I-I just…I don’t know if I can do it.” Your voice was strained and weak, but thick enough with fear that it alarmed Basilio.
“What’re you talkin’ about? We’re already this far in! Just a little bit more and we’re gonna be a whole family!”
“I-I’m just really…I’m tired, and i-it hurts so much, and I-I don’t think I can do it-”
“Hey, now.” He clasped your hand in both of his, kissing your fingers sweetly, “Don’t you worry about all that. If anybody can do this, you can! You absolutely can!”
You swallowed, absolutely beaten down by the circumstances. But nobody wanted Morgan more than you. Basilio was a close second, but he didn’t hold a candle.
So with a swift nod, you grabbed hold of Basilio and started pushing for all you were worth.
Basilio had never heard you cry out like he did that day. Your grip grew so tight that you ended up causing a hairline fracture in three different bones in his hand.
There were so many tears, so many curses (mostly spat at him), and encouragement that he was sure fell on deaf ears. But you still pushed on. The clerics finally broke through the weather and ran into the room, Lon’qu leading the charge for them to get to the queen.
It would be a full fifteen minutes of pushing before Morgan finally made it out, but the exact moment you heard your baby’s cry pierce the air…it was over.
“Robin…oh my gods, Robin!” Basilio gasped, his attention blinking between his absolutely exhausted wife and his very angry newborn son.
“It’s a boy!” The midwife announced, to cheers from Lissa, Basilio and the rest of the staff (you gave a wobbly smile). Though to be fair, that was wholly expected.
The Khan leaned down, wrapping his arms around you and peppering kisses into your hair.
“You did it! Just like I said you would, huh?” He said between pecks, making you giggle. He started to stroke your cheek, but found that moving his fingers caused a shock of immense pain to shoot through it.
“You…you good?” You breathed, and he retracted, realizing that there were some dark bruises showing almost exactly where you’d been gripping him.
“Who, me? Don’t you worry about me! You just had a baby! I’ll have Lissa take a look at my hand- I’m sure it’s nothin’.” He reassured you, “Just rest a second. I’ll be right back.”
He turned to said princess, who had quickly come to his side when he first mentioned her name. She bit back a laugh, taking out a Heal staff to address his wounds.
“Yeah, she broke your fingers.”
His face blanched.
“You’re jokin’, right?”
“Nope- pregnancy strength is no joke! I’m more surprised she didn’t break more of your hand.” She was grinning from ear to ear while she helped him off to the side. While they worked, you were carefully tended and cleaned up, given a fresh change of clothes and had your bedding replaced so that you could rest far more comfortably now that the worst was over.
Basilio watched over you the entire time, ready to jump into action with half a hand if necessary. Thankfully you were returned to your peace, and Morgan’s wails had quieted once he was bundled up nice and warm, on his way to his mother’s arms.
By the time the Khan’s healing was finished, he found that you were sitting upright, gently bouncing a very tiny bunch of blankets that no doubt was occupied by a handsome young fellow.
“Congratulations,” Lissa whispered to him, ushering him to your side before escaping the delivery room with the rest of the quieted clerics.
The chaos was finally over. Now, it was just the two of you, alone in bed with a squeaky, squirmy baby.
“Robin?” Basilio called to you carefully, walking back to the bedside. You turned to him, the smile he’d missed for months finally back on your lips.
“How’s your hand?”
“All better,” He replied, nervously glancing at the package in your arms. “You two, uh…how are you guys doing?”
“We’re fine…just fine.” You returned your attention to your little one, tilting your arm just slightly so Basilio could get a good look at him. He leaned forward in his seat, practically halfway onto the bed when he was able to spot that little face.
He was crinkling his nose and his brow furrowed, but every time you touched his cheek or cooed his name, Morgan would calm, and his expression would ease.
“Well, well, well…would you look at that.” Basilio was all but glowing. His hand settled over the blankets, feeling the teeny warmth that a newborn seemed to radiate. “Morgan’s just as handsome as I thought he’d be.”
“I think he’s even more so.” You remarked, making him chuckle.
“He’s gonna be a hell of a looker, that’s for sure. No doubt he’ll be whip smart, too…think he could be even smarter than his future version?”
“Are you trying to pit our sons against each other before one of them can even sit up?” You laughed at his musings, to which he shrugged.
“I didn’t say that! I just thought, y’know, since it’s a different timeline and all…I wonder how different this Morgan’ll be.”
“I doubt they’ll be too different. I’m sure he’ll be just as sweet, smart and strong as his older brother.”
“No doubt about it.” Basilio hummed in agreement, “...Though hopefully this one’ll hit a growth spurt. It’s no fun bein’ the only tall one in the family!”
“Just for that, I hope he’s shorter than me.”
“Don’t do that to him!” Basilio gasped, “He’s gotta be a giant like his old man, you hear me?”
“I mean, I do, but I don’t have any control over that.”
“We’ll just see about that.”
“...What are you planning to do to our barely-half-an-hour old son?”
“Nothin’...yet.” You shook your head, flicking Basilio’s forehead to put a proper stop to his antics. The pair of you dissolved into laughter, and the rest of your snowy afternoon was spent cuddling Morgan, taking turns holding the itty bitty baby and plotting out the hopeful future you looked forward to as a lovely new family.

An update on my FE awakening, whoa a lot of stuff happened like I ended up s ranking chrom but his older sister is dead and there was more war stuff like ballisto is dead now too and validar guy has the emblem, all this stuff is crazy and what was your reaction to that happening for the first time around?
look I'm weak. I love Chrom. I S-ranked Chrom. I regret nothing. It's an excellent choice.
It's honestly hard to remember my initial reactions, though, considering I first played the game almost eight years ago at this point. My memory of events is spotty on a good day, and at this point I've built up so much additional story around the events of the game for one of my WiPs that it's hard to parse out what the original feelings were from what my deeper story examination of events has made.
I do know that I was honestly really sad when Emmeryn died, because I really liked Emmeryn, and I was equally distraught when Basilio died because I really liked him too he was great and I was so hoping he would make it with Lucina's warning and also Validar is the worst I hate him and also I was really scared for Robin by the end of tha chapter for. You know. Reasons.

I just read your quiet place au World of Silence and it was SO GOOD but in the notes at the end you said you had a whole idea for an Owain chapter that was darker than the previous two chapters and I am so so curious about it, I understand if you're planning on writing it separately if you don't want to share any details here but I thought I'd give it a shot asking anyway (i love when Leo and Niles are the ones to comfort Odin since he seems like he usually keeps his anxieties and traumas fairly hidden, even compared to the other awakening kids, but they're still there!)
(World of Silence fic) Firstly, I'm so glad you enjoyed this fic! My horror stuff isn't as popular as my romance fics, but I am a horror lover at heart so I'm always glad when one of my spookier fics gets a comment! Thanks for reading!
As for the unwritten Owain chapter, I did not have plans to write it out since the number of people who (a) like FE: Awakening, (b) are willing to read more explicit horror, and (c) will read my fic specifically isn't a huge number, hence why a lot of the horror I write is more like? Mainstream horror movie palatable, I guess is how it would be described? Which I also like! But I thought this concept would be just a little too far, so I didn't write it.
BUT it does play in my head on loop all the time and you asked, so I will share the idea concept below the cut! :)
(animal death tw) (gore tw) (zombies tw) (implied child death tw) (spoilers in tags if needed) (less of the comfort part and more a description of the memory/nightmare, sorry)
Selena's nightmare/memory takes place when she's a teenager, but Laslow's's takes place when he's maybe like? 10 or something? And I imagine Odin's memory takes place when he's also 10 or perhaps even younger than that. 8, maybe. (But an 8 year old who has grown up in a zombie apocalypse, so. Take that as you will.)
I also default to Lon'qu!Owain, which I mention because Lon'qu would have taken Lissa to live up in Regna Ferox with him as Basilio's champion. Which means being up in the cold and the snow. Which, on one hand, is a good thing because the cold probably slows the stiff Risen bodies. On the other hand, the crunch of snow underfoot makes noise.
Since it would be a dream memory, I wouldn't go into much detail how, but it would be a memory of Owain running in the snow (perhaps during a snow storm) while holding baby/toddler Morgan, who is crying. Which is understandable because! Scary! Cold! But also, need to be quiet! The crying is directly calling more Risen after them.
Owain would be panicking about what to do, not sure where they are, needs Morgan to be quiet, etc. He has a dagger and nothing else. He is also 8, so there are few options. They run across a lone (possibly young or injured) deer that is also lost in the snowstorm, and it is freezing as well. Slow to move. Could be easily taken out if it makes noise.
Like the way a baby can be easily quieted if it makes noise too.
There are monster noises somewhere in the distance.
Owain looks at his dagger.
At which point the narrative skip ahead in time and it's only Owain by himself now, running through the snow (and perhaps directly retracing his steps in a big circle so he can step in old footprints and makes less noise), and there is blood on his knife and his clothes. With the implication being that perhaps child Owain has harmed or even killed baby/toddler Morgan in order to get them to be quiet.
Except then he doubles back after he's sure the Risen has been lost and finds the corpse of the deer that he killed. Split open from end to end, still steaming from body heat in the cold air or maybe the steam is waning. And Owain reaches in and pulls out Morgan, who is covered in blood (deer blood only), alive, and no longer crying. Because they were crying because they were cold, and the body heat of the deer kept them warm enough for Owain to ditch the Risen on his own.
(This concept was also an idea I had when I revisited a more general, not A Quiet Place zombie AU, where the smell of the deer would cover up the smell of Alive Human (like The Walking Dead) and hide Morgan even more. But in this case, Baby Warm and Not Making Noise because works just as well.)
The memory would end there (although with the implication that Owain & Morgan got back to safety at some point, somehow) and Odin would wake up in Nohr.
Selena woke up in bed and Laslow woke up in a field. I try not to repeat myself too much (though I do love repeating myself), so maybe Odin would wake up in Leo's office or another meeting space? Having fallen asleep after returning from a normal mission (or maybe a mission that involved Faceless in the snow, hence his memory returning). Niles or Leo have placed their cloaks over him because he looked uncomfortable and "maybe he should learn to put a shirt on if he's going to be out in the snow."
I've seen better metas about how Odin draws the most distinction between Awakening time & his life before/after time travel compared to Selena & Laslow (who in particular doesn't draw much distinction at all) + Odin almost never breaks character in Fates compared to Awakening, so I don't know that he would even admit to having a nightmare on his own. But if pressed, he probably would admit to remembering something bad from long ago.
Which has Niles solemn and offering to lend an ear if Odin wants, as he can relate, and Leo doing the same, although he's slightly more uncomfortable. Odin echoes Leo's sentiment of "The past does not matter; it's the now that matters" and feels warmer just by being around Niles & Leo and the memory getting more and more distant.

Looking at another question, Aversa's spotpass recruitment definitely plays into a kind of male power fantasy though. Afterall no one can care about the people that the Male Player Avatar hates, nor can any women resist their manliness, so of course Aversa was just mindcontrolled into following Validar and once freed, immediately clings to Male Robin for no reason at all.
Tumblr media
Putting both asks together for convenience.
You know what, I'm actually gonna cede on that point. Basically everything about the way she's written is terrible.
This one got long, fellas. Below are discussion of racism and sexism in FEA and FE as a whole, with a TLDR of: yeah, anon's right on the money here.
FE already has a habit of making female villains "sympathetic." A woman can't be "true evil" the same way men can; she always is manipulated, or brainwashed, or, worst of all, devoted. Pointing at Awakening, look which of the Valm bosses is most devoted to Walhart - it's the woman, obviously. It's a long standing tradition for women in FE to play second fiddle.
Aversa has it particularly rough. First, she's introduced as Gangrel's right hand woman. And once he's dead, she flits right on over to Validar, to eventually be used as a disposable pawn. Oh, she manipulated Gangrel for Validar. Could you imagine how cool it would've been if she'd been the leader of the Grimleal all along?
The sexism and the racism just amplify each other here. There's a grand total of two brown women in the entire game. Aversa and Flavia. I think Flavia and Basilio are fine characters, they're fun, they get some development - but, seriously, the characters from the country stereotyped as barbarians are black? And the one character from that country who refutes the stereotype, Olivia, is white? The black woman is physically strong, independant, masculine. The white woman is dainty, frail, shy, to be protected - feminine.
Black women in power are utterly stripped of femininity, and when a brown woman is allowed to be feminine, it's to sexualise her and make her exotic. Geez.
Back to Aversa. Hard agree on the exoticism. Just look at her outfit. The disparity in clothing between male and female dark mages in Awakening is painful. Plegia in general is just so mysticised by the game. Henry gets to have a full outfit. Tharja gets a bikini. Heroes doesn't make it better, using a Plegia themed banner to put more characters in skimpy clothes.
And again, why are Henry and Tharja light-skinned? Even if they're specifically intended to be white, they should at minimum be suntanned from their environment. But, oh, look, all the recruitable characters from Plegia are light-skinned, and most of the not-recruitable, evil, killable ones are brown. Ylisse is the Good Country, and it's design is Fantasy European, so of course the Bad Guy country is egyptian.
It's your typical brown/foreign = evil garbage. Much as I love tristrat, it has a similar issue. There's four recruitable characters from the country of Hyzante, only two of which are brown, and one of them is a scantily clad dancer. Notable here is, all plot important NPCs from Hyzante are brown. And the woman is the most sympathetic of the bunch amongst her warmongering male colleagues.
FE typical misogyny is again mixing with racism to create a doubly bad package in Aversa's recruitment. Her backstory completely strips her of agency. At least Pheros believed in Walhart's aim. Aversa can't even be evil of her own ambition, it is simply the more evil brown man manipulating her, and as soon as she realizes that, she's on the side of our white protagonists.
(Not even getting into how much nonsense it is that Robin is light-skinned. Their dad is brown. But, see, if Robin is brown, how could the player ever put themself in Robin's shoes? How could Robin ever be a well developed complex character if they're also brown? The Awakening melanin mod fixes some issues, but definetly not all of them. It's a band-aid at best, but I'm not uninstalling it anytime soon.)
To the point of Aversa's interactions with male Robin, specifically - again, the paralogue itself needs to be dismissed here, since Robin can be a woman in it without any dialogue changing whatsoever.
What we can look at, though, are Aversa's supports.
Her supports with male and female Robin are incredibly different.
Her support with male Robin is... actually decently written. Aversa starts out very hostile, and Robin tries to connect with her, but she only mocks him. It also goes into their weird and fucked up family dynamic with Validar ("Truly, are your father's son." "...don't say that.")
There's criticism of the choice for Aversa's personality, of course - to make one of your two brown women catty and sarcastic is a well known stereotype, yet the support shows some self-awareness on Aversa's part? Her A-support with Robin is about Aversa struggling to find herself and being frustrated that she's always just following others ("really don't have a place in this world. I was played for a fool by my father. Now I fight for my former enemies... I'm a slack-eyed puppet that dances to music everyone but me can hear.)
The true grossness is in the S-support. Robin helps Aversa figure out that she's just herself, and it's up to her to figure out what she wants to do. So in her S-support? What she wants is to be useful to Robin. God fucking dammit. "I don't want to be subservient anymore, except to you, because I love you for real this time."
Her confession line is kinda making my blood boil rn. "From now on, I live only for you. And as you may have noticed, I'm the fiercely loyal type."
ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? IS THIS A JOKE? DOESN'T THIS CONTRADICT HER ENTIRE A-SUPPORT? FIERCELY LOYAL??? IS THIS A JOKE?????
that is. so fucking gross.
i recognize very few people will ever actually see this support because Aversa joins so late, but. Christ alive. I can understand Aversa's initial hostility toward Robin on account of like. Her entire life falling apart prior. But the choices that led here are still bad and stupid and racist, even if the support does something good with them, and then the S support is itself just bad and stupid and racist, and ABSOLUTELY plays into the notion of "saving" her as mentioned in the ask.
I got incredibly long winded cuz Awakening has ISSUES with colorism and I'm just airing all the dirty laundry at once, okay.
So. Aversa's support with female Robin. It's so fucking bad.
You know how I mentioned I actually liked bits of her support with male Robin? You know, going into their family, going into her self-doubt, the way she feels lost - there's NONE of that with her support with female Robin. NONE.
The premise of the support is that Aversa is trying to usurp Robin's position as Chrom's tactician, and Robin is having none of it. The focus is entirely on which of them gets to be Chrom's second hand woman. Aversa is finally free, so now what - she's gonna try to cozy up with the man in charge (even try and get to bed with him, from the sound of "Then Chrom will realize it's me that he wants! Me!").
It's also a total degredation of Robin's character, too. They're both reduced to cat-fighting over Chrom (who, at this point in the game, is guaranteed to be married). Like, does Robin just not trust Chrom to be faithful to his wife? His wife, who may or may not be Robin??
And Aversa, just, urgh. Why. Why anything. Chrom isn't offering her power, or manipulating her, she doens't even have any supports with him, nor does he cameo in this one. He's just an object to be fought over here. And this is the first time Aversa is stated to go after someone romantically and sexually. Just, let me sample it. See.
Robin: I see your fantasy life is as rich as ever. To think such a delusional fool would ever become tactician. Ha!
Aversa: Delusional? I think not. Chrom is a hot-blooded man, after all, and young besides. And when two young, passionate people are thrown together in such situations... Well, sparks can fly.
Robin: Two young people? You must be a dozen years older than him if you're a day.
Fucking. Fantastic.
Their A-support doesn't even end with them making up. The two get ambushed and work together to escape - at the end of which Robin admits they make a good team, but the two stay rivals.
If they'd been rivals just as tacticians, that'd be. not fine. but better. But they're EXPLICITLY rivals over Chrom's affection!
The disparity in these supports is fucking HUGE. Not only the blatant sexism in Robin's treatment here - male Robin gets to make insightful comments, express complicates feelings about his past, and female Robin gets to be a jealous harpy. But Aversa, too. With male Robin, she gradually drops her boundaries as he keeps trying to make her feel welcome, no matter how much she mocks him. With female Robin, she stays catty, she gets even pettier, she stays mean and cruel and doesn't change. She gets worse, if anything. Cuz again. She is trying to seduce a married man for personal profit.
And, oh yeah, isn't brown women, specifically near eastern brown women, trying to seduce white men just trademark orientalism???
what a fucking mess. aversa deserves so much better. A better outfit, for one, the thing that covers the most skin is her fucking jacket. (Black jacket in the desert, also. Not a good choice). She deserves to be a person outside of her subservience to men, she deserves to have her own ambitions and agency.
She could've been good, you know? She could've been a foil to Robin, for one. Like, if her support with female Robin hadn't just been about Chrom. If the main story itself paralleled Aversa's manipulation of Gangrel with Robin's counsel to Chrom. Or if Aversa's pursuit of Grima's power could be commentary on Robin's repulsion to it.
Like. There is stuff here. But it's totally ruined by typical FE sexism mixed with new FEA brand racism.
I love this game. I hate this part of it.

Poll Results
The polls for Basilio/Emmeryn/Gangrel/Walhart are now complete! The results are as follows:
Basilio is allowed to have kids. He will have romantic support options with every gen 1 character except for the minors and Chrom.
The Spotpass units will be receiving supports based on community vote. Please vote using the google form below:
Each of the three characters has 2 questions, one for romantic and one for platonic. None of them have romantic options with the mothers, but almost everything else is fair game.
Thanks for the patience! This should make for the last poll, and I should be able to get the next update out after this.

(Mod Toto) Today is also Basilio’s birthday! And now it’s even more painful that we didn’t get another pirate banner for him 😭
Anyways, everyone say Happy Birthday Basilio!
