From TWM #8, it's part one of Harm's Way.
Since there was some interest in me sharing my collection, I thought I'd start with one of the first short stories and one of my favourites. Which is odd, considering Trevor Baxendale wrote one of my least favourite novels. Judging by The Undertaker's Gift, he's a big supporter of Jack/Gwen so it's interesting that he wrote a Rhys/Gwen focused story.
Full text is under the cut. This was a quick transcription, so please let me know if you find any errors.
The Torchwood SUV pulled up with a screech of brakes and Captain Jack Harkness climbed out. ‘Came as fast as I could,’ he said with a grin.
‘No news there, then,’ said Ianto Jones. He was standing on the lawn of a neat semi-detached bungalow, squinting in the sun as it reflected off the SUV’s paintwork.
Jack took off his sunglasses as he strolled over, ‘Ok, Fun Boy, what gives?’
‘You’d best have a look yourself. Tosh is in the back checking it over.’
‘What about the people?’ Jack asked as he strode up the garden path.
‘I sent them next door. The neighbours are providing tea and sympathy. It’s that kind of area.’
‘It’s a sunny day. Everyone’s nice on a sunny day.’
Jack pushed open the gate at the side of the house and Ianto followed him down a shady passage into the back garden. It wasn’t too large, a meticulously cut lawn and some well-tended flower beds. Not the kind of garden kids played in, so this was unlikely to be a prank.
Toshiko Sato was already there, examining the artefact with a portable scanner. If artefact was the right word, it was really still just a thing, but that sounded so unprofessional.
It was pretty big, at least two meters long, a meter wide, shaped like a loaf of bread. In fact the surface looked, at first glance, just like a crust – until you realized it was translucent, like amber. The midday sun sparkled like gold coins scattered across the top.
‘It sinks,’ said Jack, wafting the air away from his nose.
‘I think it’s the heat,’ said Toshiko straightening up, ‘We need to get it somewhere cool.’
‘Okay,’ Jack nodded, ‘Owen’s on his way with a van. He’ll be here in ten.’
‘I thought Gwen was going to have a word with Rhys, see if we could just one of his lorries?’
Jack shrugged, ‘She changed her mind.’
Ianto pulled a face and Toshiko understood. Jack had changed Gwen’s mind for her.
‘Rhys is ok, but I don’t want to put him at risk,’ Jack explained, noticing the silent exchange, ‘And neither does Gwen.’
---------
Rhys Williams sat down and pushed the skinny latte across the café table to his fiancee Gwen Cooper. He was having a large mocha with extra whipped cream and chocolate sprinkles. ‘Nearly five quid,’ he sasid, licking froth off his thumb, ‘For two coffees, it’s a disgrace.’
Gwen smiled at him. It was a beautiful day and they had been lucky enough to find an empty table on the pavement, ‘Stop complaining, it’s not offen we get to meet up in the day time.’
‘Well I’ll just have to make the most of it, won’t I?’
‘What does that mean?’ Gwen stiffened slightly. There was something in Rhys’ tone that rang alarm bells, the way he said something with that causal smile  but without meeting her gaze. It always meant trouble.
‘Y’know…in your line of work. Torchwood and all that. You never know the day, do you?’
Gwen put her coffee down, ‘What’s got into you? I thought we were good about this?’
‘We are, we are.’
‘Well you don’t sound it. C’mon, what’s up? I thought we were going to have a nice cup of coffee and chat about the wedding?’
‘Oh yeah, that.’
Gwen’s shoulders sagged, ‘Rhys, please tell me what’s the matter.’
‘Well I just thought…it’s not like you’re a police-woman anymore, is it? I mean, that was bad enough…’
‘Bad enough?’
‘Yeah, you know, with the risk and everything. Well, what I mean is, it’s not like being a…’ he floundered, ‘I don’t know…a secretary, is it?’
Gwen glared at him, ‘Is that what you wish I was? A bloody secretary, for God’s sake?’
‘No,’ he said, realizing that he had said the wrong thing again, ‘No, I only meant it as an example. You could be a bloody bricklayer for all I care. At least I’d know you were safe.’
She was still thinking of a reply when her mobile sang out. She flipped it, shielded the screen from the sun, saw the single word. TORCHWOOD. Oh great. Prefect timing, Jack.
‘I’ve got to go,’ Gen said, standing up, businesslike, ‘Thanks very much for the coffee.’
Rhys got up as well, ‘Don’t go. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to moan. I’m just worried, that’s all.’
‘I haven’t got time for this.’
And then the look was back in his eyes again. The one where his eyebrows sand right down over his nose. The only look on his face that she ever disliked, ‘No, you rush of, Gwen, run along to Jack. Maybe I’ll see you tonight, eh, if you’ve not been ubducted by aliens or eaten by  a Weeble.’
‘Weevil!’ yelled Gwen, and then realized, just as Rhys did, that they had raised their voiced loud enough for the other people at the nearby tables to hear. She turned abruptly and walked away, her heart hammering, leaving him to face the stares.
---------
She made it to the Hub in record time. There was nothing like a really bad mood to get you moving and by the time she’d walked to Roald Dahl Plass, Gwen did feel batter.
‘Where have you been?’ asked Jack as Gwen stepped into the cool and cavernous interior of the Torchwood base.
‘You gave me the morning off,’ she told him.
‘I never give anyone the morning off,’ he said, ‘That must have been an alien imposter posing as me.’
‘Don’t joke about it.’
‘It could happen. You have to be ready. If I ever give you the morning off again, question it. If I change my mind, then it’s the genuine me.’
‘There’s only one Captain Jack,’ Gwen laughed, ‘That I do know. What’s the emergancy?’
‘No emergancy. I just wanted the whole team together. We’ve brought something in and we need to check it out.’
Gwen dumped her jacket and bag on her workstation, ‘What is it?’
‘We don’t know,’ Ianto said, coming down the steps from the hothouse, ‘We’re thinking of having an office sweep. But so far it’s been officially promoted from a “thing” to an “artefect”. Coffee?’
Gwen shook her head. She could still taste the latte and it wasn’t good, ‘Where is it, then?’
---------
It was on the slab in the autopsy room.  Owen Harper, white lab coat glowing under the operating theatre lights, was examining the artefact with an old-fashioned magnifying glass while Toshiko stood close by, taking yet more readings on her PDA.
‘Blimey, that’s a big one,’ Gwen said as she came in.
‘That’s another way you can check it’s the real me.’ Jack murmured as he followed her down the steps into the cool, circular chamber.
‘Excuse me,’ said Owen, looking up from the examination table, ‘This is an innuendo-free zone.’
‘Since when?’
‘Tosh and I just agreed it, didn’t we, Tosh?
She looked up and nodded quickly, the blue glow from the scanner hiding her crimson blushes.
‘Did it come through the Rift?’ Gwen asked.
‘Landed slap-bang in the middle of Pontcanna,’ nodded Ianto, ‘Someone’s back garden, no less. They were pretty surprised but not traumatized.
‘Good neighbours,’ explained Jack.
‘And no need for retcon.’
Gwen nodded, satisfied. The memory-altering drug perfected by Captain Jack was used too often for her liking. She knew the public had to be protected, but sometimes it just felt wrong to protect them retrospectively.
‘We brought it back in a van,’ Ianto continued, ‘Took all four of us to lift it. I still can’t get the smell off my hands.’
‘You were wearing gloves,’ Owen pointed out.
‘I know, it’s the smell of the gloves I can’t get rid of,’ Ianto screwed up his face, ‘It’s the rubber.’
‘So any idea of what it actually is?’ Gwen approached the examination table cautiously. Whatever it was, it certianly ponged. It was a distinctly organic smell, like the mulch at the bottom of a forest floor. Ripe and peaty.
‘I’ve been collecting a number of different readings and scan data,’ Toshink reported. Her glasses flashed blue in the light of the PDA screen as she continued to run through the analysis programs, ‘It’s one hundred percent extraterrestrial, but there’s not match in the database for organic compounds, cell structure, polymer chains or nucleic acids.’
‘So,’ Jack summerised, ‘Something new. Any guesses?’
‘Crusty roll for a giant?’ offered Ianto, ‘Abbadon’s packed lunch, perhaps…’ But no one even smiled at that.
‘It’s organic,’ Owen comfired, ‘But it’s dead.’ He tapped the side of the amber pod with a knuckle. Even with surgical gloves on, there was a distinct, hard rap.
‘It’s a chrysalis,’ said Gwen.
They all turned to look at her. Self concious, she managed a shrug, ‘ What? I did a project on them in juniors. You know, butterflies and moths – in the larval stage, when they’re caterpillars, they weave a silk covering all around themselves and it dries out and forms a hard chrysalis. Inside, the caterpillar dissolves into a kind of soup an then reforms as an entirely new creature. A butterfly or moth.’
‘You’re saying there could be a giant caterpillar in there?’ asked Jack.
‘Or a butterfly,’ added Toshiko.
‘Or soup,’ suggested Ianto.
‘I don’t know,’ Gwen said. She was standing close to the thing now, staring down into the translucent shell outer layer, ‘But that’s the thing about them. The chrysalis, the shell, is dead matter. It’s what’s inside it that’s alive.’
---------
Rhys jumped down from the lorry cab and slammed the door. It was still sunny, but there were puddles left over from yesterday’s downpour. He splashed his way across the yard towards the Portakabin office of Harwood’s Haulage, still fuming.
He and Gwen were arguing far too much lately. He’s put it down to pre-marriage nerves; some of his married mates had said that the weeks leading up to theire weddings had been the worst of their entire lives. ‘And then after the wedding, it all goes down hill,’ Banana Boat had warned. Feeble joke, but it had made Rhys laugh out loud.
‘Get away,’ Rhys had said, ‘What would you know about it? I’m looking forward to it, me.’
‘No you’re not. You’re bloody terrified.’
But Banana Boat was wrong about that. Rhys was scared of notgetting married. Of getting there, up the aisle, with Gwen, before some insane alien space monster ate her alive or fried her with a laser blaster.
Before he’d known, in the months before he’d stumbled on the truth and found out about Captain Jack Harkness and Torchwood, Rhys and Gwen had argued a lot. In a funny kind of way it had been a relief to find out about the space aliens and the Rift and the Hub and all that crazy stuff. Because it made sense of the arguments, of the tension, and the deceit. He hadn’t liked it but he’d understood it. And the truth had brought them closer together, closer than they had ever been.
But there was a doubt in Rhys’ mind now. After the initial excitement, the thrill, the breathtaking madness of It all, it came down to this; Gwen faced deadly danger on a regular basis, peril and adventure that the rest of the world could only have nightmares about. But for the people in Torchwood, for Gwen Cooper, and now Rhys himself, those nightmares were reality. And more than that, they were daily routine.
And that was scaring Rhys now. Scaring him big time. Because every time his phone rang, his guts would turn stone cold and his hand would tremble as he took his mobile out of his pocket. Because one day, any day, that would be Jack Harkness calling with bad news.
---------
Gwen was in Jack’s office. She was standing at the window, looking across the Hub to the autopsy room where Owen and Toshiko were still working on the chrysalis. It had been officially promoted from “artefact” to “chrysalis” and Gwen felt quite proud.
‘Problems?’ asked Jack. He was sitting with his boots up on his desk and his hands behind his head. His sky-blue eyes were watching her carefully. Gwen always knew when Jack’s eyes were on her.
‘No, nothing,’ she replied, fiddling with her necklace. It was a cheap leather and shell thing that Rhys had given her only last week, down by the waterfront. It had caught her eye on the Cardiff Bay souvenir stall and Rhys had bought it for her instantly.
‘You can’t kid a kidder,’ drawled Jack, ‘Listen, I know you wanted Rhys to help. The truck thing – it was a good offer, a kind offer. Exactly what I’d expect from you. But I can’t involve Rhys in our work. He’s gotta stay separate, do you understand?’
‘Sure.’
Silent as a panther, Jack appeared at her shoulder, one warm hand on her arm, ‘I mean it, Gwen. You’re Torchwood. Rhys is the real world. He’s what you go back to at the end of the day. Let’s not ruin that.’
‘I understand.’
He turned her around and looked deep into her eyes. She could feel her irises loosening, widening, drinking in that cool blue gaze. When he spoke, she could feel his breath on her face.
‘Do you understand? Really?’
‘Yes.’
‘I’ve gotta care for everybody, Gwen. Even Rhys.’
She closed her eyes, ‘Yes.’
There was a polite knock at the door and Jack let go of her.
‘Excuse me,’ said Toshiko, ‘But I think we’ve found something that might be of interest…’
---------
‘It’s writing,’ said Ianto.
They were all staring at a patch of smooth amber on the side of the chrysalis. Owen’s pen torch was picking out a series of marks in the material, angular cuts which run in a long line around the entire perimeter, ‘From most angles the marks are actually quite difficult to see,’ explained Owen, ‘But if I shing a UV light on them…’ He changed the setting on his torch and the tip glowed ultraviolet. And then, instantly, the markings were impossible to miss.
‘The y are not random or accidental cuts,’ Toshiko confirmed, ‘It is definitely some sort of deliberate, intelligent inscription.’
‘So what does it say?’ Jack asked.
‘I’m running it through every transcription protocol we have. It could be a long process, though.’
‘Ok,’ Jack clapped his hands, ‘The day’s just got interesting. Let’s get to it, guys. I wanna know what this thing is and where it’s come from.’
‘Uh, Jack,’ began Gwen, ‘I think the day might be getting a little more interesting than you thought…’
‘What do you mean?’
Gwen pointed, ‘Look at the chrysalis. Can’t you see? Inside. Something’s moving inside.’
---------
Rhys dialled Gwen’s mobile. It rang twice and then her voice said, ‘Rhys, what is it?’ She sounded busy, distracted. Ringing her was wrong, he shouldn’t be checking up on her like this, but he had done it now.
‘Gwen love…about before. I didn’t mean to have a go at  you, I was out of order.’
‘Yeah. Ok. No worries.’
She sounded like she wanted to close the call. Rhys felt a flare of irritation again; here he was, trying to make amends, extend the olive branch, and she was too busy, ‘What’s up?’ he asked, ‘What are  you doing?’
‘Rhys, I’m busy. I’ll call you back.’
Gwen snapped the phone shut and returned it to her back pocket, ‘Sorry.’
They all looked at her for a long moment. None of them ever received calls in the Hub, at least not from anyone outside Torchwood. Gwen didn’t know whether to feel embarrassed or smug. But she did bloody feel annoyed with Rhys, didn’t he ever know when to let go?
‘I’m getting new readings,’ Toshiko announced, ‘Gwen’s right. There’s something in there and it’s alive.’
‘How come we’ve only just noticed it now?’ Jack wanted to know.
‘It’s only just started moving,’ Owen said, circling the examination table, ‘Something’s activated it.’
The chrysalis cracked open with a sound ricocheting around the Hub like a gunshot. The team all took a step back, reflexively.
For a second after that, nobody moved. They all stare at the jagged split running down the top of the chrysalis from one end to the other. Something moist glistened beneath the two halves, something which moved with a slow, ugly sucking noise.
Jack’s hand was on his gun, drawing it already. Owen was backing away from the chrysalis, one hand out to pull Toshiko back with him. She was still immersed in the readings from her scanner, her eyes fixed on the blue screen, ‘There’s been a huge surge in energy levels,’ she reported without looking up.
‘We kinda noticed,’ Jack said, levelling the Webley revolver. Ianto was already mounting the steps leading out of the autopsy room, heading with brisk efficiency for the weapons cabinet.
Only Jack, Gwen, and Owen saw the thing emerge from its chrysalis. It burst like a giant abscess, globules of stinking ichor spraying across the room as the contents were disgorged.
It moves so fast that they should even see what it was, not properly. It shot upwards in a tangle of limbs, knocking the theatre lamps flying and sticking to the ceiling like a screwed up spider. Owen was in his back, shouting something, and when Gwen looked at him she could see that he was hurt, twisting from side to side while he clutched his face.
Jack fired three shots at the creature, the boom of the heavy calibre pistol rattling all the instruments in the room. Brick dust showered them as each bullet missed its target. The thing scuttled with inhuman speed across the ceiling, swung down through the entrance ach and lashed out, somehow, in retaliation. Jack was sent spinning through the air, all the breath knocked out of him, until he crashed into the wall with bone-crunching force.
‘Jack!’ Gwen yelled, charging across to him. She skidded in a patch of alien goo and hit the floor hard next to Jack’s inert figure. She turned him over and gasped when she saw the huge black gash on his forehead. Blood had already begun to pour down his face and he was out cold.
Toshiko was bent over Owen, who has stopped screaming but was not moaning in a way which was somehow worse. It was the kind of sound that no one should ever had to make, the same sound Gwen had once heard at a road traffic accident she had been unlucky enough to attend as a fresh-faced WPC. The young lad caught under the wheels of the bin lorry had made the same noise minutes before he died, before the ambulance ever got close. It was something Gwen had hoped to never hear again, and yet now she was, only this time it was her friend, someone she loved, someone she’d screwed, for pity’s sake, dying right in front of her. Owen was still holding his face, his fingers white and ridged. Toshiko was panic stricken, trying to speak to him, but barely able to say anything coherent.
Gwen made Jack as comfortable as she could, but quickly. She knew he would be ok. Then she crabbed across the room, patting Toshiko on the shoulder as she went, ‘Look after him,’ she ordered, and Tosh, bless her, just looked up and nodded without a word. Owen was holding onto Toshiko’s arm with one hand now, his fingers flexing and pulling her. His other hand was on his face and Gwen could see blood, lots of it, running down his wrist as he rocked back and forth, groaning and whimpering.
‘He’ll be alright,’ Gwen said and again Toshiko simply nodded, as if hardly daring to disagree.
‘Get it!’ Owen hissed through his fingers. Blood bubbled behind his hand and one eye blared feverishly at Gwen, bloodshot and frightened, ‘Get the bloody thing!’
Gwen nodded and ran up into the Hub.
---------
It looked empty. The huge space was quiet, save for the tick and whirr of the computer stations and the hum of the Rift manipulator. Nothing moved.
Gwen’s weapon, a powerful 9mm Sig Sauer automatic, was on her desk. She could reach it in half a dozen quick strides. But where was the creature?
Something moved across the Hub and Gwen froze. Then she saw Ianto step out of the shadows beneath the hothouse, a Heckler & Koch SMG slung over his shoulder. There was a magazine already in place, a second one taped to the side of it for speedy reloading. He was scanning the Hub, sweeping the area for any sign of the thing from the chrysalis, his forefinger resting on the trigger of the gun.
He saw Gwen, nodded once. Then something crawled across the high walkway which ran along one side of the hub and Ianto swivelled, bringing the SMG up to his shoulder to aim.
The creature stopped, almost invisible in the shadows. Gwen could hardly see it, apart from the impression of a number of limbs sticking out from beneath a shiny carapace, like a beetle or a cockroach. But, boy, was it big. Big and fast.
Ianto took a cautious step forward, still keeping the creature in his sights, but trying to reach a better firing position. As he moved, the creature moved. It crawled slowly along the gantry, matching him step for step.
Then, without warning, it sprang. Ianto fired instinctively, the muzzle flash igniting the scene for split seconds like a strobe light. Gwen saw a few glimpses of the thing in mid-air, like momentary snapshots, saw the widening jaws and jagged fangs.
It barely slowed under the hail of gunfire. It collided with Ianto and he disappeared in an instant, as if he had stepped off the kerb in front of a speeding lorry.
Gwen had already made the dash for her gun. She grabbed the Sig, cocked it, aimed, squeezed the trigger. Once, twice, so many more times she lost count. It was a big gun, too big for her really, the magazine holding 16 very heavy rounds. But Jack Harkness had taught her how to shoot and there was no one better than Jack.
The bullets in the Sig were not ordinary rounds. They were Torchwood ammo, hollow point, steel jacketed, with one microdot of super-dense Dwarf Star alloy to pack and extra punch. A great lump of it, about the size of a grain of sale, had come through the Rift 30 years ago. It was enough to keep them all in ammunition for decades to come, thanks to a tame microphysics engineer Jack knew at UNIT.
The bullets tore chunks out of the walls, holes in the pipe work and left one armoury window shattered. Several struck the creature. She didn’t see the rounds hit, but she knew, she just knew, they’d hit home. The creature squealed and crashed against a wall, splashing through the water at the base of the water tower and disappearing into the shadows.
Then all went quiet. Gwen’s ears were still ringing, but she could tell that the Hub was silent again. She couldn’t even hear Owen anymore. Perhaps he was dead now, like the boy who had been run over by the bin wagon. Perhaps Ianto was dead too. Jack was unconscious. Toshiko was not a warrior.
It was down to Gwen.
She walked forward slowly, keeping the gun level, ready to shoot again at point blank of necessary.
Silence. She strained to hear something, anything, that might give the creature’s location away. Breathing. Or the click of its amour. Or the sticky noise of its jaws opening.
Nothing.
She crept forward, arms extended, rigid, like a signpost to death.
It had to be nearby. It couldn’t have gone much further.
Another step. Her canvas trainers didn’t make a sound.
And then her mobile went off in her pocket.
She physically jumped with shock. The jaunty ringtone trilled out across the Hub, drawing the attention of anyone, or anything, that might be listening.
The creature sprang from its hiding place, jaws snapping at her. Gwen actually saw the spittle flying from the jagged spikes which filled the gaping maw, aware that the last sound she was ever going to hear in her life was her ringtone, and the last thought she would ever have was Rhys you stupid bugger.
And then it was on her.

Not a request, but a question: just...what are your thoughts on Gwen? Like, what impressions do you get from her character? I'd be lying if I said she isn't my favourite B10 character, but I'd like to hear your thoughts. What you think of canon Gwen, which Gwen is the best iyo, if you want maybe some headcanons...
But only if you want to, of course. Thanks in advance!!
Tumblr media
hey!!! to answer ur question i love gwen very dearly and shes one of my favorites!! shes probably the charatcer ive drawn the most bc i draw her all the time traditionally. Shes also the character ive done the most fanon stuff for as her drastic personality shifts between series kind of make it so u have to be fanon-ey lol. i kind of merge classic gwen's bitchiness pettiness and general childishness with uaf gwens maturity and (while not very present in the show) angst potential. as for what gwen i think is the best i still always love classic gwen bc i paticularly hate how they made gwen a mom character and also nullified a lot of her personality to make gwevin work. i just love girls that suck lol, but i do like uaf gwen for the anodite stuff, which plays into my super ultra fanon hcs and my 'gwen is trans' conspiracy, plus i like that her villians changed to reflect her struggles in a way in uaf, becoming less fun evil magic people and more cruel predators preying on her and the people she loves.
i dont really know how to condense my gwen fanon into single headcanons lol, i have a very complex narrative in my head about her.
-before the roadtrip one of her worst fears was transformation, she used to watch movies where someone would be transformed into something against their will and get really scared which she became more desensitized to bc of ben but which is also one of the reasons she is extremely distressed by her not being a real human. she has nightmares all the time of her stepping out of her skin and it being stolen from her so shed be stuck as an anodite forever
-she loves computery stuff and coding and the like, and when she went to college she majored in compsci. she lost this interest around uaf bc she was stressed due to the anodite thing and the DNaliens invading but she picked it back up around ov. shes likd of sad cooper was such a creep to her because she wanted to talk computers with him
-she doesnt like being alone in public so she always takes ben or kevin with her anywhere.
-shes very bad at making female friends because she has a tendency to hate most girls she knows for insignificant reasons or just the mere association of them and ben. shes only able to really become friends with girls who r either unrelated to ben or who shes forced to be around all the time. this is also why she hates all her girl cousins (shes kind of a mysoginist lol)
-shes very judgy and often very harsh in her judgements and not easy to trust, but she puts on an air of being trusting and nice so as to not appear hostile or mean. she did this with kevin and never really trusted him fully even when she was trying to get him to ask her out. she only really trusts grandpa max and ben in her life, then later kevin.
-her mom didnt allow her to have a lot of sugar as a kid because it made her irritable, but once she goes to college she contracts a crippling orange soda addiction
there ya go!! sorry soem of these r heavy i have a lot of gwen thoughts. here take a gwevin 4 the road

One of the many things I love about Gwen Cooper , and probably my favourite , is that she was a mess in the beginning . She fucked up so much in season 1 and I loved every minute of it. Gwen wasn't written to be likeable , but to be human. She was going to be heard no matter what. She cheats on her boyfriend and she isn't punished . And the cheating is not because she's bored or she's this wicked person. No it's born out of trauma and need to share and yeah attraction too. Is it the best choice? No but it's one she does and sticks by and acknowledges is bad . But she still does it and continues to do.She later retcons Rhys just so she could tell him about the affair ,so she could feel better. Again a bad decision , morally questionable. Every Gwen wrong should be as celebrated as every Gwen right , because it's really a testament to her as a complex character and fucking wonderful and badass person. She fucked up , messed up , she failed and got back up again.

so i have been writing my ideal version of season 14 in my head laying awake at night for weeks now and someone else needs to hear about it before i go insane. so.
concepts that would make miss ruby sunday ✨interesting and spicy✨ without going against the evidence we already have:
she is from the near future (2046 possibly?? i heard that year floating around in relation to robert ap gwillam)
she is from the further future, potentially WAY further, but was sent back in time by weeping angels hence her seemingly modern clothing. also this makes way for a weeping angels episode. you’re welcome.
she either has splinters like clara or there is a spatial genetic multiplicity thing going on (like with gwen cooper and gwyneth), and she exists in multiple time periods (eg, 60s and regency like we have seen in promo photos)
she is some kind of creation of jinkx monsoon’s character or “the duchess”. we don’t know anything about these characters but they are described as “the doctors most powerful enemy yet” and “beware the duchess”. i think creating a companion would be a pretty cool thing for a villain to do (and would probably end in utter tragedy, in the interest of fucking the doctor up, which is always fun)
she is a zygon, other alien or even a time lord who thinks she is human living on earth. i have thought about this and it’s my absolute favourite. there is potential for a queer / outsider allegory which is always great (i don’t belong here, i feel like i’m hiding, etc). she can still be from the modern era, but would have a unique perspective and presence on the show due to actually not being from earth. if a zygon, she would be able to shapeshift, a helpful and never-before-seen skill to have on adventures with loads of fun possibilities. and it would just make the whoniverse feel interconnected, not just retconning important world events with “time can be rewritten” but actually acknowledging that yeah, there are zygons living on earth! remember that? now that ive thought about it, i really want this option…
she is actually from the 1960s or the regency era, and we are seeing it out of sync and/or assuming based on promo stuff that her modern clothing is her everyday clothing and the historical stuff is just for funsies. i would love a 60s companion because a character from the time of the shows creation next to a black doctor?? what a fucking boss move it would be so awesome
she is mia tyler. im adding this because it’s popular, but people are really grasping at straws here in my opinion and i just… don’t like this idea? if mia tyler ever appears i want them to make it damn well clear, at least with foreshadowing and stuff. i’m going into season 14 wanting new and fresh and original. not supernatural nostalgia-bait soap opera shit. “I’M YOUR DAUGHTER FROM ANOTHER UNIVERSE” gimme a break i don’t like this one
she’s a unit or torchwood agent. this could actually be real! i like this one it’s fun, we know there’s gonna be a unit episode including kate stewart, why not have her be involved? love me a badass spy lady, plus it could open up martha jones and spin-off opportunities so….
she’s a secret villain. very broad and vague i know, but it’s never happened before and the shock horror twist of it all would just be so awesome, especially because millie has a background in soap operas lmao
her timeline is funky in some way. maybe she’s like river song, maybe she’s like clara, maybe she’s stuck in a time loop or is from an alternate universe or there’s something very wrong about the events of her life that means timey wimey stuff ensues
she’s a time lord / gallifreyan and possibly a relative of the doctor. possibly linked to susan in some way, or an otherwise relative of the doctor’s. a secret sibling (again, millie gibson’s soap opera background!!), his child / susan’s parent, someone linked to the doctors daughter jenny, etc etc
she’s a time agent. the idea of time agents is really cool but woefully unexplored, we only ever meet jack and john and sure you can’t beat the wives but i want to see the full potential of them, there’s so much you could do
if you can think of any more, please do share in tags and comments i wanna know other ways i can get my hopes up way too high!! :))

more like super smash SISTERS.
happy non-denominational winter holiday season, you animals
Ten years ago, I wrote and published my first long-form crossover fanfiction. It was intended to function as an advent calendar, with 23 individual chapters to be read once a day in December, with a finale on Christmas Eve. In practice, two chapters were cut when the finale ballooned in scope; the standard format ends on Day 21 so the final three days can be devoted to wrap-up.
What was the standard format, you may ask? Well, the story grew from something unbelievably Autistic(tm) I had done in previous years, where I poured out a bunch of blorbos on the floor and arranged them into small piles. Continuing this trend, each chapter featured three characters, all from different things, fighting a villain from a fourth thing in a location from a fifth thing.
Yes, it was bad.
But as I forced myself to reread it for its ten-year anniversary, I noticed something deeply unnerving. I noted, with some amusement, that while Marvel Comics was easily the most widely represented pool of characters (thanks in part to, say, RDJ's charismatic Tony Stark registering as a fundamentally different entity than his milquetoast comics version; conversely, favourites like Deadpool, She-Hulk and Doctor Doom had no cromulent adaptations at that juncture), the same was very much not true of DC. There are exactly four DC characters - specifically the Batman: The Brave and the Bold version of Aquaman, Red Tornado(???), mark hamill's...... the JOKER, and Green Lantern. All of them die immediately. Lol.
But then I had to ask myself: wait. Where's Catwoman?
And that led to the much more dangerous question: where's ANY woman
21 times four is 84. Eighty-four characters. Of these, seventy are he/him, thirteen are she/her, and one is Pyro Teamfortress2. (Sloppily referred to in narration alternately as 'he' and 'it'.) Day 12 features two female characters, and then there is an eight-day gap where every single chapter is male-only until motherfuggin Day 20
Don't worry, it gets worse. By and large there was a less-than-50% survival rate. Of the 84 characters, 34 make it to the end; 30 men and four women. Of the starting 13, six die immediately (as the DC characters and Pyro do) and three die subsequently. One of the four survivors contributes nothing to the final battle other than having her throat slit (non-fatally...?) in front of a male friend as motivation.
Now, is this is the worst thing about the story? Lord, no. There are plenty of other places to start. But in my modern capacity as the women-respectin' ThievesInTime-hatin' male feminist I am, it's something that embarrasses me. A different, more bearable embarrassment than the one arising from the presence of internet reviewers in this story, but embarrassment nontheless.
To! That! End! I have wrung one last category five autism incident out of this adolescent enterprise, by assembling a new, modern roster of 84 goddamn characters. I only allowed myself 13 he/him characters, and only in the exact same weird pacing of the original story. I was a little looser with the non-binary characters, who I upped by 500% - a 'they', a 'they/it', a 's/he' [sic], a fucked up evil dark fantasy 'it', and someone who used to alternate between 'he' and 'she' mid-sentence before settling on 'they'. Also I didn't bother with locations because I barely found that fun the first time
Full list under the cut, because this has gone on long enough and I doubt anybody read this far anyway. Okay!
1: Carmelita, Catwoman, Valkyrie vs Victor von Doom (Sly Cooper, DC Comics, Skulduggery Pleasant, Marvel Comics)

3, 21, 33? (Happy Gwensday!)
Thank you for sending this and a special thanks for making the ask game in the first place! And happy Gwen Cooper Appreciation Day! This was so much fun :D
3. Favourite girlboss moment in Series 1 or 2
Oh, this is a tough one. I think it’d have to choose Gwen going off by herself to investigate what Jack’s hiding in Adrift. By that point, she’s so integrated into Torchwood and has placed so much trust in Jack and the team, but even when Jack pulls rank and orders her to stop looking into it, she’s willing to go behind his back to get to the bottom of it. Because it was important to her, and she couldn’t look away from this even if it meant Jack wasn’t who she thought (it’s heavily implied she thinks he might be doing something awful behind the scenes, or at least covering it up), not even if it meant she’d be making an enemy out of him, a powerful immortal. She was willing to risk her life to find out what dark secret he was hiding and do what she could to try to make things right. She’s incredible and I love her.
Honourable mention goes to Gwen being willing to sacrifice herself in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang in order to save the city. Like a boss.
21. Best Gwen centred episode
It’s gotta be Something Borrowed! Not only is it a hilarious episode with lots of Rhys and the team leaving the Hub (and dressing up <3) but it’s also in a way the moment where Gwen’s two lives come to a head and she’s forced to make a decision (this first happened in Meat, to be fair, but I feel like it was continued here). In Meat, she chooses Rhys (even though she was pretty sure Jack wouldn’t retcon her, I still think it’s huge that she was willing to stand up to him and tell him to do it if he felt he must, even if it meant she’d lose Torchwood and the team and the sense of purpose she got from her work, because she couldn’t take this away from Rhys or go back to lying to him and hiding such a huge part of herself from him).
But in Something Borrowed I feel like it goes full circle when she insists on marrying Rhys no matter what, overnight alien pregnancy be damned. It feels to me like she was choosing both, in a way. Yes, she’s marrying Rhys, yes, she’s Torchwood, she will walk down the aisle and swear her love and loyalty to him while also fighting aliens and she will look beautiful doing it, just you try and stop her! (Don’t try and stop her.)
Of course this only works because Rhys is behind her 100% (king 😌✨) and in his own way he’s choosing her too, Torchwood mindfuckery and alien weirdness included. At the end of the episode, when they retcon all the guests, the happy couple is offered the chance to have their memory altered too, but they turn it down. They want to remember this day, they want all of it, just as it is. They don’t want a fake picture perfect wedding or marriage, they want the real thing. It took them a long time and a lot of stumbling to get to that point, but they got there and they’re happy with it. Neither of them would trade it for the world.
There are also so many little scenes throughout the episode (like Jack trying to convince her to postpone the wedding and Gwen refusing, Ianto choosing Gwen’s new dress, Tosh delivering it, etc.) that illustrate how close the team has become and how much they care for each other that I just love a lot. So yeah, one of my favourite episodes <3
33. A pre-COE headcanon
My pre-CoE headcanon is that when either Gwen or Ianto had a really bad day (or week, or month) or were just feeling a little stir crazy or anxious, they would tell Jack they were taking some time off (Torchwood permitting) and drag the other one to the pub or the nearest coffee shop and just talk for a bit to unwind. Not about anything Torchwood related most of the time, unless there was something specific in their mind they wanted to talk through. Mostly they talk about small things or gossip, they learn more about each other before Torchwood shaped them into who they are, Gwen learns about Ianto’s time in London, Ianto gets to hear about Gwen’s teenage rebellion against her mother’s idea of who she should be and later tells her a little bit about his bad family situation and confesses his own forays into shoplifting in his teens. I don’t know, I just want them being there for each other and getting to know each other better. Both Jack and Ianto were, each in their own way, Gwen’s best friends, and I would like to see more of them in the quiet times in between.
Additionally, I’m a little sad that Gwen doesn’t seem to keep in touch with Andy all that much (though I think she chose to keep her distance for his safety, given how Torchwood has a track record of being very dangerous to anyone in its vicinity), so I would also like Gwen having a coffee with him just to chat and catch up every once in a while when there are no emergencies and she isn’t actively asking for his help for a case. I don’t think this happened in canon, sadly, but I would like it if it had.

Ok so there is lot of focus on Gwen retconning Rhys and then crying on the Hub sofa eating pizza, but one of my favourite Gwen moments is immediately after and that is when that phone rings with key information about the case they are working on. And even though tears are still running down Gwen’s face she snaps into action because she has a job to do and she has made a mess of her personal life but she can still come through for her team and her city.
And then there is the bit where she goes to contact the others through her comms and if I really want to read into this I can say that we see that Gwen has fallen so low and has reached rock bottom largely due to her isolation and her inability to communicate with the people around her. When she receives that text she finds a comm and it puts her in touch with her team like symbolically she is able to communicate once again and this is when she starts climbing up from this pit she has dug for herself.
And even if that is reading into things too much I will always love Gwen for pulling herself together in the middle of a emotional crisis of guilt and self-loathing to get to work and help save her colleague and actually you know the fuck what I will take Gwen Cooper as my role model here because at some point in my life I probably will fuck up and I want to be reminded that when I do there will always be opportunities for me to do better in the future and the best thing I can do after I have done wrong and I don’t know how to fix things is to help someone else.
phew

Choice
Tumblr media
I've thinking about the whole murdering Kevin thing again and we all know about Max letting Ben know that his choice was the logical and well basically the right one.
But one thing I realised why Ben made this choice in the first place was because of Paradox.
'When the moment comes, you'll do what needs to be done.' Were his words.
Now I dont know about you , but that sounds like the choice Ben has to make has to be the difficult one. This drives Ben to think that he needed to kill Kevin because that is the most difficult thing to do.
I've tried to understand why Paradox said that in the first place and this is what I've come up with.
From what I know , Ben's first reaction to things has never really been to kill anyone.
Fighting yes sure, murder no.
Without Paradox , Ben would've probably outright helped Gwen in saving Kevin from the start beacuse that's how Ben is and the whole situation could've ended quickly.
The only reasoning for Paradox's choice of words I could come up with is that this decision probably breaks the future into 2 different timelines.
Every decision , big or small leads to changes in the timeline, I know that.
But how much does it really change with small choices? Like Ben choosing idk, Big Chill instead of Swampfire in battle.
It changes things slightly but as long as the enemy is defeated, it doesn't really impact the future all that much.
But this one, the decision to follow through Kevin's elimination would definitely lead to major changes, possibly leading to 2 very distinct timelines.
These timelines would have their pros and cons, each shaping the future of Ben and the rest of the world in a different way.
Currently , I'm trying to figure out what would've happened if Kevin died. What would have been the benefit?
The cons would probably be:
1. Gwen leaving the team or not doing her best anymore because she would've been depressed.
2. Defeating Dagon would've been difficult because Kevin's 'tin foil hat' was what stopped Dagon from controlling Gwen.
3. Ben would've been left traumatised or something along those lines and would need therapy because he would have to live with the fact that he not only killed someone, but it had been his best friend.
Pros:
1. With Kevin gone, another person, maybe Cooper would've joined the team. He has some strengths. Or maybe someone else?
I can't really think of anymore cons/pros at the moment.
As much as it kills me to say [because Kevin is favourite and I can't stand having something bad happening to him] there must've been some pro with Kevin's death or maybe some sort of lesson? or else Paradox wouldn't have been so vague.
Do reply/ reblog if want to add some pros or cons to the 'no more Kevin ' AU.
Disclaimer: if you've been following my posts for a while you would know im not one completely stick to canon. So feel free to share your opinions even if they aren't canon. Sticking to canon is also fine idm.

Some ‘Why’ responses:
Ben -
I know it's a really basic pick but I enjoy Ben alot as a character. Even though I feel like he took an extremely sharp turn into immaturity in the final season of Alien Force onward (from what I've heard it was due to ratings), it still fit well after a bit of time of adjustment. Him being rash and selfish at times while still having a good heart feels...very human. I'm a huge fan of flawed protagonists and Ben is a prime example of such, imo! Plus I hradcanon that he has autism and it's a big comfort for me :)
I love his potential as a character and the way he hands having such power and responsibility thrust upon him. Ben has done so much for the people in his life and the universe, and I absolutely adore him.
I think of him like a kind person who tries his best to the right thing, he's pretty chill and optimist and in my mind he's a chaotic bi and i can relate to that
Kevin -
I like that he's always been an antihero in the original series. And in the reboot I really like the direction the showrunners are taking his character. He has a different backstory, motivations and I'm really enjoying his character development. It's a fresh take on his story and they're treating it with care, which I really appreciate. His Antitrix aliens also have some really incredible designs.
Cool powers, uncommon character in children's media, especially as a primary character often cast in a good light (ex con, high school dropout, masculine, not emotionally mature). His character development is some of the best in the series.
Gods, we could be here forever... Okay, short version- 1) I can relate to him on a mental health level, especially in the OG series we seemed to have similar issues and to handle them in similar ways 2) there's a lot of depth and variance to his character, he's angry and aggressive and dangerous but also a dork, a sweetheart, and very affectionate once he lets his walls down, he loves cars and supernatural romance, violence and magical girls, he'll rescue an aggressive dog for no reason other than it needed help but also he might consider how much he could get for selling you, he's a complex character and he's allowed to be in a way the Tennysons can't because of how firmly they sit in the Hero seat 3) for all of this, we never really know all that much about him and his experiences, at least in comparison to what we know is there- we never learn about his time traveling the galaxy, we haven't heard anything about his time stuck in time, it's only in the reboot we're getting trustworthy information about his background and even then it's rare tidbits- he's ripe for exploring in fic, headcanon, and so-on 4) his powers in the OG series, his status as mutant or alien or both who knows anymore leaves a lot of doors open to play and to look at the world through different angles 5) dude has turned into six different monstrous chimera forms over the course of the franchise and honestly you have to support that sort've shit in media otherwise they might stop
Rook -
Alien catboy with a glorious voice and have you seen those arms??? And he's so polite while also being hilarious when he gets a little rude/snarky and his character development is amazing!!
While I would normally say Ben himself, Rook is his only friend that hasn't tried to kill him. Additionally, he provides Ben with guidance as well as support the Gwen and Kevin are fickle about.
Having an actual alien joining the cast and serving at Ben's foil worked well to me.
Gwen -
Smart, talented, funny, snarky, confident, and super cute. Jock-prep-nerd energy all in one. Deserves the world. Criminally ignored by the majority of the fandom. Knows karate and judo?? College at 16?? Icon.
Angel, can do no wrong, was capable of so much more than the show let her do, potential to be the most powerful member of the team if they'd just let her go a lil feral sometimes :/
She was a good voice of reason most of the time. Her powers were really interesting and overall I think she had a lot of wasted potential having to be sidelined since the series was about Ben ultimately

Q3. Ship or Zed
64% - Ship 36% - Zed
Q4. Favourite main antagonist
20% - Albedo 13.3% - Kevin 11 12% - Vilgax 10.7% - Charmcaster 10.7% - Zs’Skayr 9.3% - Malware 5.3% - Forever Knights 5.3% - Eon 4% - Highbreed & DNAliens 4% - Aggregor 1.3% - Servantis & Rooters 1.3% - Khyber 1.3% - Dagon & the Esoterica
Some ‘Why’ responses for top 3:
Albedo -
When I first saw him during the airing of Good Copy, Bad Copy, I was scared that Albedo might be a one-and-done evil clone that doesn't get much development. These fears went away, and I was pleased to find out about his backstory and motives, just a sour soul in an unpleasant situation. Even in Ultimate Alien with his reappearance episode, he tries to work on his own to cope in a horrid human world. He isn't necessarily malicious until Ben gets in his way, he just wants to return to his own body and leave, even stating that he wasn't going to fight Ben anymore while he had temporarily returned to his Galvan form. I know DJW stated in some interview that Albedo could never be redeemed, but I believe there's some hope if he gets help. And I'm a sucker for those redemption arcs :)
Tragic frog man that could have been helped but nobody helped him and he doubled down on his hatred which led to him getting stuck in a cycle of revenge and punishment and it's the tragedy of how much better things could have been for him if someone just helped him that I love so much!!
Kevin 11 -
He’s very dangerous and has a terrifying power to absorb electricity and living DNA to have the same powers of who he absorbed it from and even turn himself into a mutant with all those powers combined leading to destructive power
Kevin was a good antagonist and a good protagonist, although i feel the transition was rushed. Anti-hero kevin in the reboot is great!
Vilgax -
He was always the endgame villian for Ben, despite how many battles they've had, despite countless losses, he always tried to stay one step ahead, and plan everything.
"Speak with care, Psyphon. Your counsel is valuable...not irreplaceable."

Thoughts
(Putting every single response here would make this insanely long so I’ve just put the most detailed/most echoed responses & include all sides of opinions when possible.)
Q1. Thoughts on the Osmosians retcon?
Okay, first up, do you know how much work I had already put into building shit surrounding those fuckers by the time of the retcons? I had been working on this crap since AF season 2! But no, they gotta go ruin that in one fell swoop, thank you, much appreciated. Second up, I wibble on it? Like, working with mutants is fun and interesting and I've done plenty of shit with them as well, but in the end I'm always going to be a pro-Ossys person. Mostly the retcons left more questions than they gave answers (how, if Osmosians never existed, did everybody and their mother know Kevin was an Osmosian? why, if Osmosians never existed, did none of the people not-involved in this whole disaster with Servantis's mindfuckery look at Aggregor being reported as an Osmosian and go 'wtf that's not a thing'? do they really mean to tell me that not only did Kevin never bother to look into his heritage, but neither did research-happy Gwen? or am I expected to believe the Rooters made enough fake information and put it out publicly that they fooled literally everyone? and if they did then why? when it would've done the same thing with less effort if they'd just, let Kevin be a mutant with a Plumber father who died) and I feel like they didn't really give enough to justify them. One of those cases of 'making your work less interesting to make it more 'accurate''. Personally, I forever keep working on Osmosians (where's the line where it just starts becoming your shit, I think I may be heading there) and I love on mutants and I flip between or combine the two as needed for whatever story I want to tell.
While the fake memories plot isn't great I think it's for the best because the original series meant for Kevin to be a mutant while UAF changed it to alien. I like him better as a mutant human. Too much alien connections in UAF.
I could scream for hours. Easily one of the worst decisions they ever made. Omniverse picks and chooses what canon to follow from AFUA + the original run and throws it in without care or concern to what it means for the timeline. Retconning something and keeping the effect it had is just bad writing. Kevin coming to terms with not being human and that’s okay was important to me when I was a kid. Knowing that he’s just been on an unending series of brainwashed nonsense all his life deprives him of his agency. I hate this decision more than several dozen essays could ever convey.
I wasn't mad about it. Mainly because I liked the idea of Kevin being a mutant than an alien. Alien Force really was pushing that aspect even with Gwen. To the point where she called her powers 'not spells' because of her heritage. Stupid that the rooters and fake memories were a thing, but necessary.
I was never a big fan of the Rooters Arc, but this doesn't bother me too much. It makes UA a little weird with Aggragor, but again, it doesn't really bother me, as most of Omniverse didn't explore Kevin (While UA Did), and was mostly about Ben.
Osmosians were such a cool idea, and it would've allowed for more exploration into what Mike Morningstar was as well, but just writing them off as mutates is so boring. As well as it makes Aggregors whole part not really make sense, like who is he then.
While well executed, it was unnecessary. You could have had the same story line where Kevin was used to mutate other kids and still had him an Alien. You could have had it where it was another alien species that used Osmosians to morph other species to theirs; a call back to the DNAliens if you want.
Q2. Thoughts on how the Ultimate Kevin situation was dealt with in UA?
Terrible. They wanted to go far. They wanted to go dark. But they didn't think their viewership could handle it so they dialed it back. I will always be curious to know what they would have written if they didn't have those constraints. Because the final product was a mess of contrasting tone and unsure footing about how far to go with questioning our hero's moral compass. They wanted to push Ben to see what he would do and apparently, we got that he would kill Kevin and maybe Gwen if she got in the way of saving the universe.... but not really because he didn't. And then the gang is happy all back together like none of it ever happened. They wanted to explore dark themes but have it leave no consequences on the characters. Also... it was so ableist and awful and Kevin deserved better than how Ben and Max (and the writers) treated him.
If they did everything the same but the argument was 'we need to capture him and lock him away' instead of 'we need to kill him'? I would be fine. It's the fact that they slipped so quickly into murder, into murder by his 16-yo bestfriend, that gets me. Like, there's apparently no space between 'recklessly risk our safety trying to talk him down' and 'Ol' Yeller his ass' and that just does not sit right with me.
Ben should have looked for alternate solutions before jumping on the "Let's kill Kevin" train. I understand why he did (this took place immediately post-Aggregor so Ben was still traumatized about having lost so many people and because he failed and "let" Kevin get turned into Ultimate Kevin, he felt as though every person Kevin hurt would be on him) but I wish he hadn't.
Pretty good actually. I like Gwen's emotions becoming a hindrance to the job, I like Ben putting on his big boy pants and I like Kevin going up to Aggregor and saying "y'know, I was a big boy villain once and I'm tried of just getting kicked around" (obviously paraphrasing)
Other than the scenario being overplayed, I think Ben was right. Kevin was eventually going to end up killing Gwen and he'd already put others in the hospital. He needed to be stopped.
Ben jumping straight to murder, yikes. Kevin dismissing Gwen to hang out with Ben almost as soon as he turned back to normal, yikes. Otherwise, it was an interesting plotline.
Really bad. Really shows how awful max and the plumbers really are. I mean , the guy saved the universe and now he clearly needs help but all they wanted to do was kill him.
it really felt like Ben just wanted to murder Kevin because he saved the universe that one time and Ben couldn't stand someone else being the hero for once
The worst, Max straight away wanting to put him down makes u wonder how long he's been waiting for that kind of opportunity.
I'm fine with it, maybe they could have spent some time dealing with the consequences of Kevin's actions, possibly even the ramifications it had on Ben and Kevin's friendship, but overall I'm ok with it.
Q3. Thoughts on the Plumbers
Plumbers ain't shit. Individuals can be acceptable or not but the organization as a whole has too much power, not enough oversight, utilizes child labor, uses a deathtrap of a hellscape dimension as a penal colony, has been shown onscreen sentencing people to imprisonment in said dimension without a trial, and I'm sorry the fact that a Plumber official could walk into a base with his team, assault several members of staff, attempt to kidnap a boy, admit to having and planning to continue to run illegal experiments on him and others, admit to having altered the memories of other Plumber officials, all in front of the entire base, and nothing was done until he tried to kill the golden child Ben 10 and failed, got his ass kicked by one of his victims, and in a place where presumably there were security cameras? And that the response was, again, to sentence him and his team without trial, take all the evidence, and peace out without so much as looking at nonetheless apologizing to his victims? Yeah, that don't fly. Doesn't sound like an organization that has it's shit together. Either the Plumbers don't have their shit together or the higher ups were in on it until it became something that could actually damage their reputation, and either way I Do Not Approve.
They're pretty cool. I know everyone's talking about how Plumbers are space cops and therefore absolutely corrupt and bad but this is a fictional universe in which corruption in organized forces isn't a necessity. Plumbers don't function the same way real cops do, they don't follow they same chain of command, they don't have the same motivations and they definitely don't have the same biases. Plumbers perform an essential function in the Ben 10 universe, which is to capture and contain aliens who aim to hurt anyone (or those who Ben defeats).
My knowledge of the Plumbers' unfortunately doesn't go beyond UA. They're not my favorite thing ever. Some of my least favorite episodes were the ones where the Plumbers or Plumbers' kids are involved, except for the episode "Everybody Talks About the Weather". The way Alan is introduced is really cool and very X Files-esque, and it ties into the DNAlien plot very well. But throughout the series I stopped caring about the Plumbers in general and I think that concept was given too much attention.
They don't do what they're meant to. They act like heros yet I don't think I've ever seen them do anything heroic. The DNAliens situation, the aggregor situation, dagon etc etc. Where were they??? Why did they leave the fate of the universe in the hands of a 16 year-old boy? Ben has the omnitrix sure , but he's still just one guy, how much can he fight? They showed up every once in a while but that's it. They were useless.
Of course the Plumbers have their problems, but looking at most characters we've met that were plumbers seem to be pretty good people. Max, Patelliday and Rook (and even Kevin, technically) are great examples of Plumbers, Servantis being a bad example of one.
Honestly liked it when it was disbanded. It’s cool they introduced Rook but like there’s so much wrong with how they run most things. My favorite version of the plumbers was tbh the first live action movie. Where it was just a bunch of old people watching out for Ben cause they actually cared about the people they protected (in this case Ben).
Q4. Thoughts on Grandpa Max
(The responses to this one were way more divided than I thought they would be omg)
He said Kevin was a mad dog that needed to put down. He's terrible. Military. Secretive. Kept his kids out of the loop and probably told the grandkids not to tell them about a huge and extremely dangerous part of their lives. Thus creating a gap between them and their parents that didn't need to be there. Child endangerment. Other than that....? He's important to Ben and Gwen so I tolerate him and he had some good life lessons to share. Also legendary adult figure in a kids cartoon who had relationships with multiple aliens.
He’s incredible, he worked in the Air Force, was going to be one of the first people on the moon (But he refused because he joined the Plumbers) had children with an Energy Being, he has a few grandchildren, and not to mention knows how to still kick butt despite him being in his 60s and was there to help Ben grow
He’s a complicated old man. Love him to bits in the original run and I love him in AF! He’s a utilitarian doing what needs to be done and suffering the consequences when need be. He does what he thinks is going to lead to the best possible outcome for the most people in any situation.
Needs to get knocked off his pedestal more often, both in and out of canon. He's got good traits, they're very nice, but there's other shit that gets glossed over, ignored, brushed aside, too easily forgiven, and just. They really needed a character who served double duty being a counterforce to him. Somebody to go 'wtf is wrong with you?' or 'yeah, no'. Ideally this would've been Patilidae, but no. We couldn't be so lucky.
Conflicted. Was he grooming Ben for plumber work, or just trying to support him in a situation he knew would be dangerous? It’s not made very clear...
I think he's got some sort of narcissistic personality disorder. I just can't forgive him for making Ben carry the burden of the Omnitrix at the age of 10 without ever explaining anything, and for not letting Ben and Gwen know he was alive after the Null Void grenade incident in AF. He clearly could have, if Helen could reach Gwen so easily. I think he views Ben more as an asset than a grandson at this point and that's really sad.
I love him! The progression from family hero to questionable old man felt kinda natural, like learning about a family member as you grow older and realizing they aren't perfect
He's awesome. He was a good role model for Ben and he was very supportive to both his grandkids. I hate that they made him mute in Omniverse and changed his design so drastically. I loved Max in every season from the original till Ultimate Alien. After that, he was pretty much just a prop.
Q5. And finally, give me your most controversial Ben 10 opinion!
It seems to be the worst thing to say that Ben isn't perfect and that Kai isn't demonic. And it's pretty standard for the women of color characters in every fandom to get the most hate so to me all the hate towards Kai when her personality is so close to Ben's AND she's also more hated than the ex-villain and the actual villains that tried to kill Ben multiple times just seems- hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. But really, and really I've needed to say this for a long time but I'm afraid of being strangled. Some fans will denounce incest/pedo shippers and people that interact with them and then reblog from a proud Bwen shipper with no self-awareness. Please I have the tags blacklisted are you safe to interact with and you just don't know? Or you're just saying you hate Bwen shippers to give yourself an out for reblogging their content????? Or are you all closeted incest shippers trying to maintain a public image???? I'm at my limit.
I do not think the reboot should have existed tbh :,D I know that it has a ton of fans and all due respect to them, but from what I've seen of it I don't think it was worth tossing away four interconnected series' worth of development and starting from scratch to end up with what we have now. I would be fine with it existing if we got an Omniverse continuation alongside it, but CN screwed OV over by the decisions they made near the end of it's run. So it's probably impossible it would return, even moreso because of the reboot already airing, and it would probably confuse younger audiences that don't know about Omniverse if two Ben 10's were running separately. I just really miss Omniverse, it had more potential and the reboot placed the final nail in for it to ever return.
The Ben 10 reboot is fun and meant more for kids rather than the ones watching for nostalgia. I didn’t like how Gwevin were sidelined and downplayed to make Ben look better. Sometimes it felt like Gwen was a bit naggy towards the two of them. I didn’t like how the fact that she was the only female lead how she had sometimes act like a parent or that they put Gwen and Kevin together just because. Their relationship felt forced and awkward a lot of the time. Omniverse’s designs while controversial were fun and unique but I didn’t like what they did with Gwevin, especially Gwen.
Kevin is totally smart enough to figure out an Omnitrix with the blueprints in front of him, we see him do amazing shit with technology- including the Omnitrix- in the OG series, people just don't notice he's as brilliant as Gwen because the show never made it as big a point that he and Ben were so very smart like it did with her before the reboot, so now they're being forced to acknowledge that Kevin might have two braincells to rub together and they're pushing against the supposed 'change'.
idk if it's controversial but there should've been way more episodes of just gwen & kevin & rook without ben or ben having a very minor role in the episode. just more time for those three to shine and show off how capable they are without ben always having to come in to save the day at the end
Gwen and Kevin aren't good friends to Ben. I mean they were initially, but once he got famous and they didn't, they stopped putting more than a half-assed effort to help him. They also don't really consider his feelings nor really care about the toll heroing takes on him.
The Reboot has the best jokes in the entire franchise and I don't why people give it so much crap.
Kai Green is an abuser and I refuse to find anything redeemable about her character. "Worthy to wield Excalibur," my entire ass. And Ben and Julie's breakup was good for them both, as people, and just as much her fault as it was his.
Ben 10 is an incredibly flawed show and people need to stop getting butt hurt when the blatant misogyny, and copoganda in the show get pointed out or when any even minority critiques Ben's character.
Ben is the worst character in Ben 10 and the whole franchise would be better off without him.
Azmuth is fine for the most part and malware was not exactly the most understanding person
I think Ben should've stayed single. Every episode where romance (or the girl Ben was dating) was the focus of the episode was pretty boring to me, personally.
Ben's parents were right to try to stop him from being a hero, so were Gwen's.
Ultimate alien force season 2 and 3 were amazing.( not comparing the OS since obviously that's the best, or omniverse since I haven't watched all the episodes of that)
Pierce deserved to die for being a boring character. I just wish his death had actual consequences.
The reboot is a genuine improvement over the original continuity in MANY ways!
Oh geez, um, Kai was a good character, just her and ben were obviously toxic. Not everyone needs to like Ben and she isn't an abuser, they just don't get along and that's fine but by God, why did the writers have to force them in a relationship? That's all I could really think of on the spot. Oh! And that the first two season of AF were a watered down version of Ben and the plot focused more on Gwen and Kevin than it did Ben. He felt like a side character and I'm not mad about that, but I don't understand why people praise that characterization of ben when I remember more about gwen and Kevin then Ben. Dude, I've been watching the show for the past week and I can name more about kevin and gwen because they're memorable.
Azmuth's hot af, but y'all aren't ready for that conversation...

If you’ve made it this far then thank you!

In Defence of Gwendolyn Elizabeth Cooper
Tumblr media
Okay, I want to start this out with a few DISCLAIMERS. First, this is probably going to be a long post, so buckle in. Second, I just want to say upfront that I DO NOT CONDONE the mistakes Gwen has made. Defending and understanding her are far different from actually condoning what she’s done and I figured I would put that blanket statement right here at the top. I know she did Bad Things. This isn’t to excuse that, it’s to explain, maybe, why she did what she did and perhaps people can gain a new perspective on Gwen Cooper in the process.
Okay. Leggo.
I asked for people to send their reasonings for not liking Gwen and I did get a few responses, so THANK YOU to those who messaged me! Everyone was very polite about it and I’m very grateful for that. The overwhelming reason people seem to hate Gwen is how she acted in regards to her relationship with RHYS. There is a lot to unpack there so I’m going to put all of the Rhys stuff in one section, and then move on to the other reasons I’ve seen about the fandom.
Rhys
Cheating on Rhys with Owen.
The thing about Torchwood is that they deal with the shittiest parts of the Universe. Suzie was right about that. Gwen came in not really knowing what she was getting herself into. Suddenly, she’s thrown into this chaotic, messy environment where she’s almost killed on basically a daily basis and she comes home from work and she can’t talk about it. She has to pretend to Rhys that she spent the day pushing paperwork, when actually the deadliest alien in the Universe tried to cut her head open with scary conversion tools and a member of their team ended up being the reason for it. She deals with trauma on a daily basis and the one person she should be able to talk to, who should be able to hold her and let her fall apart to him, isn’t allowed to know. Of course she feels isolated, wouldn’t you? Our partners are supposed to be the people we go to for support and help, but she literally cannot tell him a single thing about her life anymore. But she gets home and she has to it there and think about everything that scares her and all of the horrible things she sees, the death and destruction and tragedy, and she can’t say a single thing about it.
So, of course the idea of being with someone she can talk to is tempting, being with someone who shares her experiences and can truly empathise with her fears and help her through this new, and tragedy-filled, way of life. Why wouldn’t she want that? Owen offers it. Owen. Who knows she has a boyfriend, who literally says “I torture people in happy relationships,” comes to her and says “you can share these things with me.” And lost and unable to talk to anyone else but him, she gives into the temptation. Because, maybe this is better for her than having a partner who can’t be allowed to know the new Gwen Cooper: Torchwood Operative. Maybe she can finally have someone who will hold her and help her through things she can’t share with her boyfriend.
Flirting with/“Throwing herself at” Jack
Not going to lie, this one really bugs me when I see it. Why? Because Jack Harkness instigates pretty much every flirtation they have. The gun range scene: Jack sensually moving against her body to “show her the proper way to shoot.” Kiss Kiss Bang Bang: that cellar scene, where he caresses her arm and gives her this line about coming back for her [ after he had just said the same thing to Ianto so ]. Her wedding: the nostrovite was the one to lean in to kiss Gwen, the one to say “sometimes you meet someone who knocks your world off--” whatever the wording is. That nostrovite, using Jack, knew that he flirts with her like that, for it was the one making all of the moves.
Jack is this enigmatic, BEAUTIFUL man who swoops into the life of Gwen Cooper, shows her that the Universe is bigger than anyone could imagine, and flirts with her, looks at her like she’s the most special human being on Earth. It’s no surprise she got a crush. It happens. But never, does she throw herself at him, in fact he always seems to be the one trying to do something, even though he also knows she has a boyfriend and consistently reminds her to keep hold of that life. Yes, she kissed him in Day One. But you know who else kissed Jack Harkness even though she had a boyfriend? Martha Jones. People make mistakes. It was the heat of the moment where Jack saved this girl that Gwen cared for and was so scared was going to die, she saw Jack act gentle and kind and yes, she made a mistake. But, it happens.
If you’re going to crucify Gwen for making very human mistakes such as this, it’s unfair to crucify her and not the men who played just as big of a role in it. They’re in no way innocent and to turn Gwen into this horrid, cheating slut and not condemn the men for knowingly throwing themselves at her despite her relationship status is really, quite frankly, sexist and a double-standard.
Drugging Rhys
A horrible decision. Wrong. Yes, she did something incredibly invasive and absolutely not okay. She did it because she was spiraling. The thing with Owen had ended and I truly believed Gwen realised that she needed and loved Rhys, that he was the man for her and she needed to hold onto that. But, she was still holding back secrets, there were still things she couldn’t tell him. She was feeling guilty and wanted to tell Rhys the truth. But, if he left her because of it? That’s it. She loses her life outside of Torchwood, she loses the one thing keeping her grounded on Earth as the Universe tears into her at work. Of course she’s terrified and yes, it made her do something incredibly not okay. She took away Rhys’s ability to choose for himself.
She shows remorse for this, obviously, when she refuses to retcon Rhys at the end of Meat. She won’t do that to him again, won’t take away his right to know what he knows. And then again at their wedding. Jack offers them both retcon and Gwen says no, no secrets anymore. In that moment, Rhys’s face almost seemed disappointed that they weren’t going to forget that hellish day, that maybe he wanted to remember it in a way that didn’t involve aliens and their families almost being torn to shreds. But, Gwen has learned from her mistake. She won’t do it again.
Also. Gwen is not the only team member who has done something like that, in fact they all have:
Owen: took away the agency of two people by spraying them with a perfume that made them want to have sex with him. Two people who didn’t want to before they were drugged. That is date r*** and it is very bad. But, Owen is forgiven by the fandom for it. He’s loved and not bashed.
Jack: literally retcons anyone who talks to him for too long.
Tosh: dug around in the inner-most private thoughts of the people around her, invaded the deepest crevices of their minds and peered in on their secrets. This is absolutely not okay.
Ianto: clearly took advantage of and manipulated Jack in order to save Lisa. Got two innocent people killed, nearly got the entire team killed, and then allowed Jack to be given to slave traders and killed, before changing his mind and rescuing him. These are really horrible things, and yet he is the fan favourite.
Gwen has done no more wrong than the rest of the team. This is the point of Torchwood: flawed human beings doing what they can to save the world and that “flawed” descriptor is for Gwen too.
“She’s a Bitch”
Oh I’ve heard this one a few times and it always confuses me. She’s a bitch? When? When was Gwen ever mean to anyone?
When she thought the thing about Tosh’s boots over jeans look being out of fashion? First, it was her private thought that Tosh had no business listening to. Second, it wasn’t thought in a mean-spirited way, she was simply making a fashion observation. We all do it. It does make us bitches to point out when things have gone out of fashion. Tosh was more of a bitch to Gwen when she found out about her and Owen in Countrycide “didn’t take you long to get your feet under the table.” That’s a bitchy and petty thing to say, but no one is calling Tosh a bitch.
Is she ever a bitch to Rhys? Not that I remember [ of course beyond the everything up there ]. But, there are moments where Rhys is a total ASS to her. Her new boss runs up to her saying there’s an emergency and that she’s needed, what does Rhys do? He screams at her “SIT THE FUCK DOWN, GWEN”  in front of her boss. That is not an okay thing to do, ever. Then, there’s the moment in Adrift when he says something like “sometimes I really hate you, Gwen.” He says this to his wife because she’s going through something very hard on her that is making her question the Universe and because it’s swaying her decision on if she wants to bring kids into the world, he says he hates her. At this point, he knows what she sees, knows what she goes through on a daily basis and doesn’t bother to take into consideration that she’s stressed and traumatised when trying to get her to make huge life decisions.
Gwen has emotions, but she’s never flat out mean to people, but there have been times where others have been cruel to her, and they aren’t hated for it.
“What she said at the end of Meat was uncalled for”
This is what she says:
GWEN: But none of you have any partners outside of this. JACK: But we understand how you feel. GWEN: No, you don't. No, you don't, Jack. You all think it's cold and lonely out there. But it isn't for me because I have him.
She isn’t wrong. She doesn’t say anything cruel about the team. She points out the fact that they can’t understand what it’s like to have to hide her ENTIRE life from her partner. Jack and Ianto have a relationship, they’re partners yes, but they can actually talk about how hard the job is, they can talk about Torchwood and the shit they see and how it affects them. Is it so wrong for Gwen to say they can’t understand how she feels that she can’t? The entire team apart from her have been so entwined with Torchwood for so long that they don’t have lives outside of it, and that’s what she’s saying and she’s not wrong. Why hate her for pointing out the truth because she wants to be able to talk to the person she loves about the harder parts of her life?
“She acts superior to the team”
This one I see a lot. That people seem to think she somehow acts like she’s better than them, that she acts righteous somehow. But, that’s not what she’s doing. I’ve made a post about this before, but I’ll sum it up here. Jack hired Gwen because he needed someone with a new perspective, someone who could see how what they do affects civilians and help them use that to work better. He brought her in to remind them that they need to do better by the people of Cardiff.
And that’s what she does,
She calls them out for being callous about Carys because that’s what Jack hired her for. The girl was dying and to her, it seemed like they didn’t care and so she spoke up, like Jack had asked her to do. She realises that she’s wrong in a way and she adjusts how she goes about it. Jack consistently reminds her why she was brought on, to call them out when they needed it and to remind them that there are human beings that are affected by what they do and they should care. And then when she does that, the fandom hates her for it. Don’t hate her for doing the job she was brought in to do.
Her Miracle Day speech
The Gwen in Miracle Day is not the same Gwen who peered over that parking garage barrier to spy on Torchwood. She saw the worst of the Universe, she watched as so many people died around her. Her friends all died horrific deaths. She was yanked by Jack into this whirlwind of a life, into the chaos and destruction that was Torchwood-- and then he left her.
GWEN: Are you ever coming back, Jack? JACK: What for? GWEN: Me.
He says nothing and leaves anyway. She begged her best friend to not leave her, after the last of her friends was killed, and he basically said she wasn’t worth staying for. How could she not be broken after that? As two people very close to me have said [ credit to @cxptained and @agent-sato ]: everyone else on the team was brought into Torchwood already broken, Torchwood took them in and put them back together again. Gwen came into Torchwood whole. She had a life and was happy. She lived, but she was SHATTERED. Torchwood took her and broke her.
So yes, she says something that is horrible. She says that when everyone else died and she survived, she felt better than them. But sometimes we have thoughts that we don’t control, we have thoughts that we know are wrong. She knows it’s wrong. Eve’s acting? You can tell that she had those thoughts and that she felt horrible for having them.
Not to mention, she says this as she’s trying to get her baby daughter back from strangers who have kidnapped her. She’s desperate and terrified and angry and her daughter is in danger. Her mental space is horrible right now. She was abandoned by Jack, broken by Torchwood and when he appears again and she’s dragged back in? Her daughter is put in danger. But she also missed Torchwood and Jack. She’s terrified and lost and conflicted and she said something bad. But she knows she is wrong.
And So...
Gwen Cooper is a human being. She is a character in a show where ALL of the main characters are written to be flawed and complicated and to make mistakes while saving the world. She was put through so much and it seems as though she’s blamed for the fact that it changed her and led her to making decisions she may not have made had Torchwood not dragged her in.
She deserves more than how she’s treated by the fans.

My Favourite Torchwood Outfits
Part 2 ( here's part 1 )
Tumblr media
We kick off part 2 with three gorgeous outfits. Diane once again rocks a dope leather jacket. Emma has a wonderful outfit. The soft pink coat with the purple blouse and deep pink gloves makes her look really youthful. It has the added benefit of making her stand out, even more than Diane and Ianto. Speaking of Ianto , his suit is one of my favourites this season. It's a fairly simple look but it makes him appear elegant. The bright red tie against the pale blue shirt and black suit make Ianto very beautiful. It's also very soft and I don't know why.
Tumblr media
Miracle day gets a lot of things wrong but Gwen Cooper is not one of them. From all of Gwen's leather jackets this is my favourite, because it looks like the love child of her s3 jacket and KKBB brown leather coat & I have a similar jacket but black. The dark brown and grey look great against eachother which is a first. The greatness of this unexpected look is added to deserved violence and anger from Gwen .
Tumblr media
Another three great looks. Jack is wearing his regular blue shirt ww2 style but he's got the airplane cufflinks and no braces on so that makes it special.I love Gwen's ansamble, especially the red shirt , the makeup is wack thought. I want Owen's outfit. The jeans are fairly generic but the purple shirt and brown sweatshirt ( I think it's called that , there is a very specific word in my native language but English lumps them a lot so no idea. You have no idea how hard it is to me to talk about modern clothes in English) elevate them to the next level.
Tumblr media
Gwen and Rhys ' s wedding outfits are awesome. Not only do they rock them , even with alien slime on them , but they have a an autumn team going on. It's more obvious with Rhys's but Gwen's go it too. The colours of Rhys's suit are unexpected but he looks amazing so good for him.
Tumblr media
My second favourite Jack look. Unlike the green shirt, we see this look multiple times during s2. The waistcoat is very nice and spices up Jack's normal look . I really love this outfit. Bonus Ianto at the back in his blue suit .
Tumblr media
The picture is awful but I couldn't find a better one so bear with me. Gwen's bring green shirt is only seen during A Day in the Death which makes me very sad.I love this shirt . It's one of the few bright clothes Gwen wears after s1. You actually see her leaving bright colours behind for more practical ones.
Tumblr media
Toshiko's outfit in Sleeper is simply iconic. From the leather coat from the beginning , to the pale pink shirt and black skirt. Iconic outfit for an icon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gwen's second iconic black dress. Gwen looks amazing and she's right about high heals. Bonus Jack looks hot in that jumpsuit. It's tragedy that Ianto died before he saw him in that outfit.
Tumblr media
Here's one group one. They all look awesome, the only awesome thing about this situation. Tosh has a purple shirt with a black leather jacket. Gwen's ansamble is great ( to be continued) . Owen and Ianto are being their regular beautiful self's and Jack is there.

First 20
Tagged by @dragonnan - I have the memory of a gnat, so I have no idea when I was tagged, but just noticed it now.
Guidelines: List the first lines of your last 20 stories (if you have less than 20,  just list them all.) Choose your favourite opening line, tag some friends!
I have a mix of fandoms below - Deception, Torchwood/Doctor Who, Magnum PI 2018, White Collar, Merlin, Arrow, and Lucifer.
Wrong Side of Heaven -  “So you’re telling me, you HALO jumped into North Korea –” Masters asked, scribbling as fast as he could in his notebook, writing indecipherable to anyone who tried to read it except for him, “for what? A possible defector? I didn’t even know we had actionable intel from there.”
Bad Things Happen (this is sort of a weird one since it’s multiple chapters but individual story lines that don’t necessarily connect, so I’m just doing the first chapter)-   “Jesus, Nuzo…”
Miracles -  “Look, I’m just saying – step – it’s a misnomer calling it a hostile takeover if there’s no fighting involved,” Danny said, as they walked along the sidewalk, Matt’s hand resting on Danny’s elbow as the younger man continued to rant about corporate lingo.
Found Family -  Rick tugged at the stiff collar of his dress blues for the umpteeth time, stretching the starched material a little further every time.
All That Grace -  She’d never actually stopped to look around the guest house since Magnum moved in.
Jinx -  “People are gonna start thinking you’re a jinx, Major.”
Crash -  Katsumoto jolted awake, sucking in a deep breath he instantly regretted.
Once Bitten -  Thomas was laughing and joking around, pointing the neck of his beer bottle accusingly at TC when Rick caught it.
Into the Night -  Foggy regretted that he didn’t always pay attention to what was on in the news - he listened for key words, like ‘masked vigilante,’ ‘Devil in Hell’s Kitchen,’ ‘John Doe found in the Hudson wearing bulletproof Satan costume’, and variations thereupon because, well, reasons.
Building a Mystery -  Juliet Higgins wasn’t an idiot.
Carry On -  “Detective?”
Remedy -  “No, Lucifer, you misunderstand,” Mary said conversationally.
Icarus -  They hadn’t believed him.
Consequence -  Somedays, Jonathan got really sick of his father’s shit.
Mirrors -  Kay Daniels wasn’t sure what she was expecting when she met Jonathan Black.
Guardians -  Occasionally, William missed his life in Central City.
Wayward -  "Rift activity," Gwen Cooper called from the computer station.
Oleoresin Capsicum -  Something wet splattered across his face.
Sand Castles -  If Morgause and Morgana didn't manage to kill Arthur, Merlin most certainly would.
Fair Warning -  Morgana was seething.
The fandoms are hella mixed - but I do tend to write in batches of fandom (and these are also just in the order they were posted or in some case, cross posted from FFN to AO3).
And honestly - for opening lines, it’s a tie between two in the same fandom - the ones from Into the Night and Miracles, which are Iron Fist/Daredevil crossovers written for challenges.
Tagging: @beguilewritesstuff, @ariaadagio (I forget if you play games - is it your off season yet? :-) ), @amandagaelic, @vix-has-arrived, @21forestglades, @aliathewriter, @itsjustdg aaaaaaaaand anyone else who would like to play
