i haven’t seen any posts about it on tumblr yet, so i just wanna say - if you want to archive ff.net fics, try fichub.net. the site actually works, it exports whole fics and their metadata in a variety of formats, and it does it nearly instantly, far easier than retyping or copy-pasting. i’ve tested it myself, it looks promising

So, I've seen a bit about fanfiction.net basically becoming a rotting corpse which is pretty sad considering for people my age it was the og fanfic site.
However, I've also seen a bunch of posts talking about coming together as a community in an attempt to archive fics before they are lost.
A few people have mentioned creating fandom specific spreadsheets or discord servers to help organise community archival efforts, but I haven't seen any links floating around. So, if anyone sees this and has created or access to something attempting to organise these efforts can you leave them here so that they are able to be found by people who want to help!

EDIT (24/9/22): Welp, based on a few posts that I have seen floating around since this was originally posted it looks like we got a bit emotional a bit early. I will still compile all the links here just in-case people are still interested but don’t want to look through the notes :)
General:
FFnet Archivist Corner: no longer active but a good reference
Fanfic Archive Discord: Still appears to be pretty active
Fandom Specific:
A-team: Spreadsheet and Google Drive

This blog and connected blogs are a archive attempt for ffn or fanfiction.net incase things go South and the site closes down. This exists purely in the interest in the archival of thousands of hours of fandom works so they are not lost. Ask us things we will attempt an answer to the the best of our ability. Submit fandom, and fanfiction to be archived. Send us a message if you would like to help us in our efforts and will try and get back to you.

Dear God, I visited fanfiction.net after god knows how long because the author of a fic I was interested in told me that they are updating it faster on ff.net
First of all, I had to wait here for like five minutes
But then it gets worse...
That's a small, tiny paragraph broken with TWO huge-ass ads!
Noooooooo!!!
This is a fucking nightmare!

I am writing a research paper for a Women Gender Studies class at the University of Tennessee. I am writing on the relationship between the LGBTQ+ community and fanfiction. If you read fanfiction at all please take this quiz. I understand that because there is queer and lgbtq in the title there will be sample bias but I do not plan on comparing between non-queer and queer readers.

No because I have such a visceral reaction to fanfictions that have the characters do something that they would never do. “He would not fucking say that,” actually causes a genuine physical ailment in my body. The world is caving in on me. I feel sick

What I love about fanfiction is that it has endless possibilities and creative freedom, like even though it can be just endless stories about two characters/ a ship every story is different and written in a different expression even if the general plotline is the same.
it isn’t the characters that make fanfic beautiful, it’s the countless amount of writers and them spilling a piece of themselves into there work
it’s truly wonderful.
