Sitka mountain ash (Sorbus sitchensis) is a common subalpine shrub throughout the park. Even before its leaves turn red, it sports attractive bright red berries. The weather has shifted with snow already arriving at higher elevations, including at Sunrise and Paradise. Meanwhile, fall foliage is bringing plenty of color to dark and rainy forests at lower elevations. Red-orange vine maples can be found around Longmire, but also keep an eye out for yellow-leaved black cottonwoods along the Nisqually River and at Kautz Creek. Where are you finding fall color in the park?
