Afterward, it went how the tale says…I took the boy to the cave and pretended to relight his candle. Then I took him as I do everyone.
Let this be a lesson in trying to cheat death.
Under the read more is a summary of the story for anyone that doesn’t want to read it themselves (though the story itself is pretty short)
Story goes there was a man with 12 kids then he got a 13th and was worried for the kid if something happened to the father, so he went out to find someone to be the kid’s godfather.
He meets God, the Devil, and Death. Death ended up taking the title and position of godfather and the kid grew up to be a great physician that used a special herb that Death showed him to heal people. The catch though:
He was only allowed to heal someone if Death appeared at their head. If Death appeared at their feet, they were his to collect.
One day the king of the land was ill, so the physician went to help him but saw Death was at the king’s feet. The physician flipped the king around so Death was at the head, hoping Death would forgive him (the physician) since he was Death’s godson.
Death did, but only that one time he said. Then the same thing happened to the king’s daughter, but whoever could save her would marry her. The physician tried to save her, but Death was standing at her feet, so he tried tricking Death again and this time after the princess was saved, Death took his godson to a cave full of candles.
The candles were everyone’s life force, the bigger the candle the longer the life. The physician’s was almost gone, so he begged Death to relight it or switch it with another’s so he (the physician) could marry the princess. Death agreed to do this, but karma hit the physician in the form of Death getting revenge by pretending to do it wrong and the physician died right there and was taken by his godfather as payment for the physician trying to cheat him twice.

The way I write Life, though, she is the candlemaker and breathes the flame of life onto each (more goes into it but this is that part). So Death wasn’t able to give the physician a new candle even if he (Death) wanted to…but he also had to get permission from Life before messing with her candles to begin with anyway.

oh…Mr Horner makes my gut twist with excitement 😖💖 he's just so imposing and forthright, with absolutely no qualms when it comes to speaking his mind and taking what he wants…it's that domineering, single-minded focus that leaves no room for distraction or inadequate results which really gets me;;;
i know if i met the man in real life i would be a trembling mess and wouldn't be able to get a word in edgeways…something he would doubtless exploit, either for his own gain or amusement 😳 take a shot for every Jack fan who enjoys being bullied by a big, awful man!! 😂 because the idea of Jack holding any feelings for me makes me want to fold up into a pretzel shape, i'll answer with how he feels towards my OC, Aspen Branch 😉
i think Jack is quietly horrified with himself for giving in to what he considers his 'baser urges' - and he can't even begin to think about being in love. he tries to rationalise his desire to be with Aspen as a natural reaction to a beautiful woman, and that it's a strong, powerful emotion…but in reality, he's scared.
intimacy is something Jack feels he has no room for, not anymore...he discards people with ease now he's so big and powerful. love is something which makes him feel small, and weak, and powerless...and to not be in control of who he falls for - especially such a delicate, soft individual? it's something which makes him tear his hair out 😖

haha, less a fun-fact and more a personal headcanon!! i like to think Jack artificially enhanced his enormous body with magical items - kind of Shrek-universe equivalent of steroids. i just find it very unlikely that Jack ended up that huge when his parents are a very normal size!!
after all, we do see Jack tinkering with the Alice in Wonderland size snacks…i really love the AU some folks have come up with, where Jack meets The Fairy Godmother and they strike up a highly unethical deal to get Jack his desired size. i imagine The Fairy Godmother sizes Jack up as a useful 'friend' - a wealthy connection with a pie empire which almost certainly smuggles illegal circumstances in its pastries 👀
