Y’all I’m LOSING MY MIND over this lot
There’s glow ‘n show, precious pocket, powder puff, eyelash princess, candy cane ponies and so many more ponies from sets that I thought I’d never have!!
This lot is absolutely nuts, worth every penny and I’ll clean them up and get to posting the ponies grouped with the sets/gimmicks they belong to so you can see them more individually!
I’m so happy I’m just in awe!! Some of my favorite ponies of all time are in here and!! The precious pocket ponies!! I love them so much I thought I’d never have even one but there’s two in here!!! I’ll have to get recreated replacement pockets for both of them, as their broken but!!!! Oh boy!!! Yippee!!!

This is a bit of a late brag as I got most of these a week ago. But I work at a thrift store of sorts and somebody donated a lot of ponies, mostly G1, to us last Monday. We don't typically take toys, but all of my coworkers including the managers and supervisor know I collect MLP as I've talked about it before, so they took them in for me.
Overall, I added 18 new ponies to my collection, got upgrades for two I had prior, bought one I had just to clean her up (Cotton Candy), and also a bonus Moondreamers toy.
I literally yelled "holy shit" out loud when I pulled Mimic out of the container. I have literally had DREAMS about thrifting this bitch that I woke up from extremely disappointed. I have been collecting these damn plastic horses for over 11 years! Mimic all but felt like a pipe dream! One week later and I still can't believe I have her. Maybe now I can actually work on completing the Twinkle Eye set.
Powder is on her own in a photo not included with the rest because I got her later. She came in with the others, but for some reason I incorrectly thought I had her, maybe because she is so common. But I did not, and so I bought her some days later because she was still there.
My manager, and I cannot thank her enough for this, priced the ponies very well for me. Some more common ones like Powder are maybe around their value, but she priced the majority of the normal sized ponies + Roary at $5, Mimic at $7 because she's more expensive (yes I did show her the eBay sales for Mimic LOL), and babies and Flutter ponies at $3 since they're smaller.
The ponies themselves were in various conditions. Obviously from the photos, Cotton Candy was and still is the worse. I have FF Cotton Candy already, but I've really been wanting to get my hands on a gross pony just to clean them, and she was the perfect candidate. She, and a good handful of the other ponies, had this sticky pink crap on her body. My suspicion is that the person who had these ponies as a kid (the donator's now adult daughter, according to my manager) probably had sticky candy hands or something and touched the ponies with said sticky candy hands (possible only Cotton Candy as she was the only one caked in it, perhaps CC touching the others got it on them too). They've mostly cleaned up very nicely, with the pink stuff leaving some minor pink staining on some of them. Cotton Candy though still has a lot on her. I have to scrape it with my fingernails to get it off which is really gross and it's just very tedious with her.
Thankfully, even though Mimic did have a couple small spots of it on her, she cleaned up the best and doesn't seem to have any staining from it. She's one of the best conditioned ponies of the lot.
I am so, so lucky for this find and it was quite the way to start my MLP collection additions of 2023. Great way to start the new year!

My 2 last garage sales of the year (probably!)
The first yesterday:
Tumblr media
The MLP G1 is in perfect condition! (and only 0.50c!) Too bad I already have it! I find a cute sylvanian lot (I didn't have that Wilwood rabbit!) I think the Nyami is a fake one?
The second today:
Tumblr media
I ask the person to lower her price for the Sylvanian set, it was too expensive and luckely they said yes! Very happy for the little MH figurines, but one is missing her fins, I didn't saw that at first!

Some Rambly Thoughts About Custom G1 Ponies…
Okay sorry in advance: Rereading some of these thoughts I am a little bit mean tonight. but i do not care lol I am ranting for fun.
I am A little annoyed at those types of people who criticize anyone who makes MLP G1 customs because they think its immoral to customize a vintage toy since they arent made anymore (….you could say the same thing about like, g4 since thats over now, but okay).
It is perfectly fine, and even good, to customize a vintage toy at times.
Most customizers are smart and will seek out “bait” (damaged) ponies to customize. If they’re already broken or damaged, customizing it is like giving it a new life, even if theyre not restoring it to be exactly how it is before. In fact: Sometimes it may be cheaper to customize a pony than restore it!
For example: The pony I made my extraterra custom of was Moondancer. She had cut hair and no cutiemark, her glitter for her cutiemark had completely faded away. Now, ive restored a moondancer before so I actually have everything i would need to have fixed her, but like. lets say i wasn’t a restorationist who had all the materials: I would have to pay for each of the hair colors I need (about 15 bucks when you factor in shipping) and then another 15-20 bucks to buy the rehairing tool and needles and then 5 bucks on quality glue and a few more bucks on zipties to retail her and then id have to buy glitter. I personally buy biodegradeable glitter but the kind i get is a little expensive especially since i have to get it shipped from overseas so im paying like 20 more bucks- Moondancer is one of the most common ponies and typically sells for around 15 bucks total o-o. Not that I don’t see value in restoring common ponies (I will restore at least 1 of every pony so that I can add her to my collection, no matter how damaged) but like. Most people don’t wanna throw all their money away to do that for a cheap common pony when they COULD put their money into those same supplies (hair, tools, paint, ect) and have fun making a cool new unique piece of artwork.
2. Even if the pony isn’t damaged: Is it your toy? Is that YOUR toy that the person customized? No? It was their Own Toy That They Paid For With Their Own Money? then shut the fuck up its not your business what they do with their toys 😭 Yeah it would hurt my heart if someones out there buying expensive rare ass ponies just to customize them when there are cheaper alternatives to certain poses (like if someone customized a night glider when they could have just used like, posey or someone for the pose) but its not my business because its not my toy and I accept that people can do whatever the fuck they want with their own property.
And anyways, most customizers DO care about vintage toys and will seek out the more common ponies with the poses they need, I don’t think anyone who is truly invested in the pony fandom uses ultra rare ponies for their customs UNLESS theyre already damaged, in which case I just see it as giving it new life. Also, customizers utilize projects like the HQG1C project or Basic Funs ponies, so you dont Have to use vintage toys to actually make a g1 custom anymore.
but I also dont think people should be shamed for using vintage bases. It can be convenient if you have bait ponies laying around. Especially since sometimes there Is No Good Alternative. like for example: I would love to make a custom of my pony design for Gregory Fnaf, but I would need a kinda rarer hard to get pose (the baby brother ponies with the molded hooves). I personally won’t make any customs unless i can find a damaged one, but if i COULD find a damaged vintage baby boy i would absolutely use it because whats the alternative when some poses are just flat out rare :(
Also to the people who just hate vintage customs in general: Sorry but youre boring. You dont like fun new designs in the g1 style? You want everything to be made with current toys? My autism makes me think about ponies 90% of the time, and for 99% of the time im thinking about ponies, i forget g4 and g5 even exist because im so focused on the older gens. Not everyone cares about the new stuff. You dont like the older gens or people using their creativity to make art relating to the older vintage gens? Youre boring as hell, sorry
Final thing I wanna say: this rant is inspired by many posts complaining about customs but the one that made me the most mad was someone complaining about G1 customs and then finishing their post with “and you could TELL that it was their first time making a custom like that :/ “
Fucking excuse you? Customs are an art form, plain and simple. And everyone has to start somewhere. do you think my first ever custom pony was any good? (for anyone curious its not one ive posted on this blog, it was a fakie) hell no I made many mistakes! But you shouldnt shame or insult people for their art, we all start somewhere and frankly you’re just mean.

Gen 5: Course Corrections (and why they won’t happen)
youtube
MasterCode here makes a number of great points.
Problem is, Hasbro is having a bigger number of financial problems, which if you noticed elsewhere, resulted in their recent move to monetize the fan side of D&D (which they own through Wizards of the Coast). What that means to MLP is that the current push here is the same there: to make more money.
So they're focusing down on toy sales. Sparky is going to remain a "toyetic" character - cute for cuteness' sake - simply because Hasbro thinks that will sell better to little girls, which remain MLP's target audience. Almost everything else about G5 is following this "toyetic" arc - and the writers for each series openly say they don't actually care about tying any of the lore together. That's a thing ADULTS care about.
Despite G4 immediately resulting in a massive spike of toy sales, the assumption at Hasbro is that these were all (or at least mostly) being bought for little girls. It didn't matter how often they were told that "grown a$$ men" were buying merch, "those are just outliers". So they just don't see any reason to implement any of these ideas - it would just be them spending more money, to NOT get more money, so far as they believe.
So why G4 then, folks may reasonably ask?
Simple: Hasbro thought the IP was functionally dead at the time Lauren came in.
Remember, G3.5 wasn't beloved even in its own time. Plus, doing things in Flash for G4 made the show as cheap or even cheaper than 3.5. Why so cheap? Because G3 had pretty much flopped despite using lots of expensive animation (relatively speaking). Hasbro WANTED to do a new series for toy marketing, but didn't really care what was IN it so long as it didn't cost them a lot of money to DO it.
Perfect storm. Someone who cared about the IP and had brilliant ideas for rejuvenating it was given the reins - at least until it took off again, at which point the Money Eyes opened up and Hasbro started Hasbroing again. G1 was originally great. G2 was not bad for its era, but everyone agrees it "lost the magic". G3 overcorrected in that department.
What we're seeing is likely a repeat of the cycle - we are effectively back in Gen 2, but with CGI.
EDIT: I should also point out the value to Hasbro of using CGI - it makes a stronger connection for kids between the TV show and the toys. G4 toys were very much “off-model” from the show, but in G5 all the characters LOOK like living toys. They, the things they interact with, and the sets they inhabit, are easy to export and touch up for toy production.

Here they are… the mega #mailcall from @clippers.sail! It must have been before February, since that’s when I took these photos!! 😬 Definitely didn’t think it would take me almost a year to post them. 😳 All of these ponies were described to me as TLC, and some were total bait; basically, they would need a LOT of rehab, and that’s what I enjoy! 💖 Included were the two semi-famous “MIB” Basic Fun “repro” G1s, which were returns that were found in-store with G1 ponies replacing the new repro toys!! 😱 Which is kinda crazy, since vintage toys are usually more expensive than new! 🤣 Part of me wants to free them, but part of me is fascinated by this funny bit of recent pony history LOL! Who do you think needs a full body makeover? My money’s on that two tone Sprinkles at the bottom! 🤣 Thank you again for so much pony goodness Clipper!! #mylittlepony #mlp #mylittleponyg1 #g1mylittlepony #mlpg1 #ponygurubrag #mylittleponycollector #g1mlp #toycollector https://www.instagram.com/p/Ck4mS9brbbc/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Do you collected G1 and G2 ? And, do you collect any other toys besides MLP
I will gladly grab G1s or G2s if I see them in flea markets/ thrift stores (as long as they're not overpriced), but I usually don't haunt for them like I do for G3. I'm more of a MIB collector and I'd looove to get an all new G1 or G2 but that would be too expensive for me -_-
Besides MLP, I collect pokémon stuff (cards, plushies, DOL soda, figures, and games). I have a few MIB barbies too...that's about it!

Thoughts on MLP Make Your Mark, Ch. 4 Episode 7
Man, what a great episode! So much happens in this, the finale for Chapter 4.
Tumblr media
Summary: Misty has finally kidnapped Sparky for Opaline, but regret it when Opaline traps Sparky in a bubble cage hundreds of feet above the ground and casually says that she will let him drop after she drains all his dragon magic into the Dragonstone.
Misty runs to gets the Mane 5, who go along, although Zipp is suspicious. At the evil castle Opaline immediately spots and traps the Mane 5 in an anti-magic bubble, congratulating Misty for her supposed subterfuge and urging her upstairs to watch Sparky's demise.
The Mane 5 are angry, heartbroken, and betrayed . . . Misty feels guilty, and also anxious as Sparky continues to be drained. But she can't rescue him on her own. While Opaline is distracted, Misty pops the anti-magic bubble and frees the Mane 5. Magic swirls around Misty and she finally gains her cutie mark!
Misty pretends the Mane 5 have tricked and captured her, distracting Opaline while Hitch and Zipp run up to rescue Sparky. Meanwhile Sunny, Izzy, and Pipp challenge Opaline. Opaline is powered up via the Dragonstone, but Sunny also transforms into an alicorn to protect her friends. Throwing an anti-magic bubble around Opaline, Sunny escapes with her friends. Misty stays behind, hiding her cutie mark from Opaline and pretending to still be on her side.
Back in Maretime Bay, Misty arrives and apologizes for lying to the other ponies. They forgive her and welcome her as a true friend.
--
Observations and random thoughts . . . As always, I want to remain spoiler-free so any questions I pose are purely theoretical! I watch one episode per week.
They crammed SO MUCH into a half hour episode, and it's amazing
Hitch has a trundle bed disguised as filing cabinets at the police station. Maybe to spare the expense of CGI-ing up a room for him? #giveHitcharoom
In the movie they mentioned that Hitch has paid off his mortgage, so maybe at some point he bought the station to prevent it from being bulldozed or something.
Tumblr media
I liked how the pegasi gesticulate with their wings when they hear Sparky is missing. Reminds me of Starscream in Transformers Prime.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, really good expressions in this episode. From Hitch looking anxious to Misty looking guilty to Opaline looking deranged.
So one moment I really liked was when Opaline--while cooing over Sparky--says "I must admit, Misty, I didn't think you had it in you." And Misty says in a flat tone, "Oh. I guess I did, though." and the viewer is left to decide whether it's because Opaline just lowkey expressed doubt in Misty or whether it's because Misty knows in her heart of hearts that being a pony capable of kidnapping is a bad thing.
Tumblr media
Another new room!
Tumblr media
The blue box with the keyholes reminds me a bit of the chest that came with G1 Dream Castle. Speaking of that playset, it had a repeated design element of a flower (as seen as on the top of the box); it's fun to think Opaline's castle, which has a tree growing through it, took some inspiration from Dream Castle. It also has similar colors, pink (mostly) with blue roofs on the turrets.
Opaline's castle looks mystical from far away, but up close it has this rough-hewn look, which is really interesting since most MLP castles tend to be very polished.
Tumblr media
Look at all that mortar. This castle didn't spring up by magic, it was built by a hundred underpaid peasants.
More talk about Sparky being drawn to the magic tree in Maretime Bay, I swear that thing is going to grow new Elements of Harmony at some point
Tumblr media
I liked this part with Opaline testing Misty / spying on her reactions. Opaline is usually too full of herself to notice what Misty's up to, but between Misty's reaction to Sparky and the Mane 5, she must suspect something is up.
Watching this episode, I found myself wishing that Twilight Sparkle had gainedalicorn powders in the Magical Girl way that Sunny did, where most of the time she was still normal. It's would have given her more to explore and figure out, and there could have been circumstances where she couldn't transform due to evil magic or self-doubt or whatever. Instead, due to the way MLP FIM had characterized the existing alicorns, it was this weird thing where Twilight Sparkle was forced into being a politician: a job she had never expressed interest in.
Tumblr media
Loved Misty getting her cutie mark! What a great scene, it reminded me of Cinderella getting her gown and Sunny becoming an alicorn at the end of the G5 movie. I wonder if all ponies have this much pomp when they get a cutie mark.
"Ugh, that Misty. That pony will be the end of me." FORESHADOWING?
Tumblr media
Leave Spider-Man alone! Youze mess with one of us, youze mess with all of us!
The fight between Opaline and alicorn-Sunny was great, I know if I saw that as a kid I'd be excited by the action and the visuals.
Tumblr media
So this was a random thought I had, mostly based on their color schemes: what if Sunny ultimately becomes responsible for the sun (like Celestia) and Opaline becomes responsible for the moon--you know, after a redemption arc where she learns not to be toxic. (I don't think this will actually happen, because the moon doesn't fit with Opaline's fire theme, but I gotta write it down so I look like a genius if it actually happens.)
Sunny and her friends just leaving Opaline initially surprised me, but on watching the episode again, it make sense . . . they had to get Sparky to safety and Sunny was never besting Opaline offensively; she was just holding her off.
Speaking of which, an anti-magic bubble totally severed Sunny from her magical abilities, but when Opaline is trapped in a similar bubble it taker her all of 30 seconds to bust free. Opaline is supercharged.
I was surprised but intrigued at Misty staying with Opaline as a double-agent

Hi Seanan! This isn’t writing related so sorry if it threw you off lol
I’ve gotten back into MLP lately and it’d make me really happy if I got my hands on some of the figures I had when I was little, and I know you collect ponies, so I thought I’d ask here.
There’s a problem, though… most of the figures I’ve found online are the larger ones with manes and tails made out of doll hair, and the ones I had were really tiny and all plastic. And I also have no idea which generation they were from, but I suspect there were some from gen 3 and a few from gen 4.
Can you help me out? You’re the only person I follow who collects these as a hobby.
Tysm!
If it was G3, you're probably thinking of Tiny Tins:
http://mylittlewiki.org/wiki/G3_Toys_and_Figurines#Tiny_Tins
G4, you're more likely looking for Blind Bags, and those are EVERYWHERE on eBay and Craigslist, you can get lots for not very much:
http://mylittlewiki.org/wiki/G4_Blind_Bag_Ponies
Finally (and least likely based on the information provided), you may have had some G1 Petite Ponies. Those would be these:
http://mylittlewiki.org/wiki/G1_Petite_Ponies
...for your budget's sake, I hope you're seeking G3 or G4, as G1 will be prohibitively expensive.
Good luck!
