Sel relatif adalah referensi sel yang jika disalin akan menyesuaikan dengan lokasi sel hasil salinan. Misalnya, sel B1 mempunyai referensi sel yang ditulis =A1. Jika sel B1 disalin ke sel C2, maka sel C2 akan mempunyai referensi sel =B2 karena kolomnya menyesuaikan satu kolom ke kanan, sedangkan barisnya menyesuaikan satu baris ke bawah.
Sel semi absolut adalah referensi sel yang jika disalin akan menyesuaikan dengan baris atau kolom yang tidak terkunci. Baris atau kolom yang terkunci ditandai dengan simbol $ di depan kolom atau baris. Misalnya, sel B1 mempunyai referensi sel yang ditulis =$A1. Jika sel B1 disalin ke sel C2, maka sel C2 akan mempunyai referensi sel = $A2 karena kolomnya terkunci sedangkan barisnya tidak.
Sel absolut adalah referensi sel yang jika disalin tidak akan mengalami penyesuaian karena baris dan kolomnya ter- kunci. Misalnya, sel B1 mempunyai referensi sel yang ditulis =$A$1. Jika sel B1 disalin ke sel C2, maka sel C2 akan tetap mempunyai referensi sel =$A$1 karena baris dan kolomnya terkunci.
