Keeping kids safe at school is big business in NCR
MUMBAI: Security companies such as Pinkerton India have been fielding a sudden rush of calls from schools in the national capital region following a spate of attacks on children that have shocked parents into demanding action. That’s why Pinkerton’s Rohit Karnatak will be making a presentation at a seminar over the weekend to about 100 principals at Delhi-NCR’s leading schools on how to ensure their schools are fully protected from all possible threats.  Given the current demand, Pinkerton India is likely to end up adding 40-50 schools as clients in September alone, up sharply from before.  “Earlier, schools constituted barely 1% of our total client base in India,” said Karnatak, managing director, India, APAC & EMEA (global screening). “Now, for the past few days, all our team is doing is giving presentations to schools. There is huge pressure as schools realise existing security measures can no longer be taken for granted.”  For others in the security space, it’s a similar story. With concerns over students’ safety spiking in the wake of a seven-year-old boy’s killing in Gurgaon’s Ryan International School, experts at background verification firms such as SecUR Credentials, solutions providers like Topsgrup and startups like Evoxyz Technologies that offer real-time alerting devices say they have seen a fourfold jump in queries from schools, playschools and anxious parents.
Even schools that already have adequate security systems in place are roping in experts. This is a product of several factors such as increased pressure from parents, state government diktats and the fact that management can be held liable for such attacks.
The security providers declined to name the schools that have approached them to help strengthen existing systems.
Child safety as a concept was not addressed properly earlier,” said Shilpa Mahna Bhatnagar, CEO of Gurgaon-based startup Evoxyz Technologies. “It was mostly about surveillance, which tended to come into play often once the damage had been done. Now parents are demanding stringent safety measures and schools are compelled to deliver.”  The company’s EvoTag Bluetooth device ensures that children can be tracked in real time in all indoor locations, even in areas where CCTV surveillance is not possible, sending alerts to the school safety department. The EvoSchool App provides school authorities and parents with location alerts, location logs and attendance prompts.
“We have seen a 150% increase in enquiries in the last couple of weeks alone,” said Bhatnagar. From three schools in 2015 and 16 in 2016, she said the company will have 60 schools on board by the year-end, marking a nearly fourfold increase over last year.
SunCity School in Gurgaon, which has deployed the company’s solutions across a 216,000 sq ft area, is its biggest client while others include a playschool chain. Another Delhi chain wants to deploy its solutions in 15 schools, Bhatnagar said.
Background verifications are another area that are assuming huge importance. Rahul Belwalkar, CEO of SecUR Credentials says that in the last year, the company has received over 50 enquiries, largely from schools in Tier 1 cities and even a few Tier 2 ones.
“Going forward, we expect the number of clients in the education space to increase substantially considering the damage maleficent staff can cause to the wellbeing of the institute’s clients and its credibility,” he says.
Commonly conducted checks include identity and residence; past employment including character and work ethic; and verifying criminal and court records which allows clients to know of any past and ongoing criminal cases like sexual harassment cases etc.  Typically, every school needs its own customised risk management approach depending on its location, surroundings and even the layout. Pinkerton, for instance, says its holistic risk solutions for schools include everything from site risk assessments, CCTV & access control and entry / exit process review to transport management, background screening of teaching & support staff, trainings and vigilance officers.
Physical security measures are being beefed up as well. According to Ramesh Iyer, vice-chairman, Topsgrup, which claims to have over 100 schools in its client list, they have been inundated with enquiries from schools.
“Students not only interact with teachers, but also a lot of non-teaching staff such as peons, house-keeping staff, drivers, canteen boys and conductors. These people are invariably taken on-contract basis; this makes background checks very important. Setting up a security protocol may take time, therefore schools are now opting to hire more guards to man their premises,” says Iyer.
The interest is coming in not just from Delhi-NCR schools, but institutes across the country. “We’d be giving a presentation to two Mumbai-based schools very soon,” says Yash Gopalkar, marketing manager at Mumbai-based Globe Security Services.  Parents on their part say that stringent security measures are now high on their list of must-haves when it comes to evaluating a school. “Increasingly, that’s becoming a deciding factor for working parents like us,” says R. Mukherjee, a banker who will be enrolling her daughter into school from next year.

godd, the Listeners interest in Jimmy is so fascinating imo
Did they choose Jimmy to be their follower because they had faith in him.
or because the Watchers disliked him the most, and because of that, the easiest to manipulate.
I also think about the first time him and Martyn were contacted by the Listeners. I like to think it was a test and Martyn failed.
They were told not to tell anyone about the Listeners, Martyn went "these guys are sketchy, should we tell everyone" and Jimmy disagreed.
Not because Jimmy, y'know, trusted them. But because he was scared of them, and he still was scared of them when doing their missions.
These are just some thoughts I've had SJHDKHJKL

anyway Hi Jimmy probably had the most lore related to the Listeners in his series when to came to Evo and everyone just ignores his involvement with them
I'm just extremely salty about Jimmy being placed in the background of stuff when he was the one the Listeners went to to do missions for them.
He was the only member to have just one on one contact with the Listeners.
And there was something being built up between them
Like during the murder mystery, it was him that found a book the name dropped the Listeners, and it was him who first heard the Listeners ticking sound
Don't even get me started on episodes 98 and 99
also the Watchers reaaaally didn't like him for some reason, so much so he was left out of the end credits when listing the members of evo.
Like, after Grian was done saying his goodbyes, everyone saw a name list of the evolutionists and the usual minecraft credits. Everyone was listed, except Jimmy.

Sometimes I think to myself, "Maybe I'm overracting about Evo," then I'll read the most incorrect thing about Evo and change my mind
Idk something about how it's just heen reduced to just "Watchers and Grian," seeing how people even misconstrue that is a little sad.
There is a lot more to Evo than just Watcher/Listener stuff.
I LOVE the Property Police, the Mafia vs PP, and the adventures Jimmy, Martyn, Netty, and Grian would go on, osufhdhd they're so silly I miss them

I have this idea/au for secret life where Jimmy's tasks come from the Listeners, I think that'd be very fun

Thinking about an idea
Something how the evo crew is just slightly Off
No one can put their finger on it, it's something uncanny about how they interact with everything, how they watch, how they listen
People who realize that there's more beyond their reality tend to act a little different

Godd thinking about Evo Jimmy and how corrupt he was, it was hot.
He got along with the Mafia and literally sold Mini a "get out of jail free card" without Martyn's knowledge.
At the back of my mind, I have a Mafia Jimmy AU.
What's stopping me from doing anything currently is that I want to watch Zee and Mini's perspective first

Anyway, my whole hc with the Watchers and Listeners is that
The Watchers are strict with the rules, well dressed, sophisticated.
I do really like the angel imagery for the Watchers. It's like they view themselves as holier than thou. Going against their words is bad.
The Listeners have a few rules themselves, but they like to bend the rules and find loop holes, kinda trickstery. They're more relaxed with stuff and have a bit of a free spirit vibe to them.
I gave them a Fae theme due to that, I also just really like butterfly wings.
