Let Häärijä wear the yellow or green bolero, so that Käärijä can put more focus on his usual music, while also having the opportunity, time, and creative freedom to experiment to his heart's content. That way he can compartmentalize cha away into its folder, still perform it because it is the song that rocketed him into fame, and not grow to hate it.

ok gonna be real I’ve never understood the “daigo is like a son to me” route that the writers took with kiryu. they’ve never, at least for most of their time knowing each other, felt like they’ve had a father and son dynamic– an older brother/younger brother one sure, or maybe a young uncle/nephew one. because I mean? they’ve known each other since they were both kids and they’re literally only 8 years apart in age. in y0 it’s implied that kiryu played with him and babysat him more or less when he was around 16-20 and it just doesn’t feel like a Dad sort of thing At All. kiryu was also a kid. just an older kid. daigo was a little brat to him just like an annoying little brother while secretly thinking of kiryu as a Cool Teenager he looked up to and wanted to be more like. it feels way more like an older/younger sibling sort of thing or something akin to that and it only starts being a little more like a father/son dynamic some time after daigo loses his father and feels the need to fill the void– which he couldn’t even begin to do until at least ten years later because kiryu was in prison. and it’s not particularly in a healthy way either, considering. well. like I said. kiryu’s never actually been like a father to him. I don’t even mean that in a negative way in this case, it’s just literally not the role kiryu fundamentally had in his life (especially because their age difference is a good 10-20 years too close to be that of a parental relationship.) so idk. having kiryu say all of a sudden that he sees daigo as a son (especially rather than as family in some other way) just feels kinda. wrong. and jarringly unfounded.
I mean shit, even majima would be more of a dad-ish figure to daigo realistically considering kiryu basically assigned him to look after daigo for like. years. while kiryu just kinda left without any known plans of reconnecting at all. or even kashiwagi on a certain level because of how he stepped in alongside yayoi after sohei’s death. kiryu has barely been around, hasn’t really showed any interest in legitimately being in his life, and has barely had any deeply personal interactions with him since they were basically both kids. and as much as I think how long they’ve known each other and what they’ve both been through is a means for a familial bond of SOME kind, there just seems like no room or evidence for a paternal role being taken on.
at least nothing healthy in that regard; if kiryu’s like a dad to him then he’s undoubtedly a deadbeat one and perhaps feels like a dad to daigo in a way because daigo’s paternal model (his birth father) was also emotionally (and probably largely physically) absent and near-impossible to live up to. that’d at least make sense, regardless of how unhealthy it’d be, but it STILL really doesn’t explain kiryu saying he thinks of daigo like a son.
it’s just. it’s such a weird thing to have him say and I wish it was this confusing because of nuance but honestly I just think the writers watered their dynamic down to supposedly father/son because it seems more emotionally impactful for kiryu to say “you’re like a son to me” than anything else he could’ve potentially said about their bond.

itd be cool if the reason for crowley's fall was literally that he tried to overthrow god. like he went all in on the rebellion. he downplays it later like he just asked questions he just hung around the wrong people he just got swept up in it etc bc he cant remember the details a lot and that makes it easier for him to maintain that he didn't even do anything. but like i want the truth to be that he DID do something. and this is not to say he would have deserved it, or that trying to overthrow god is wrong or anything. it would just unambiguously be like yeah, there was a rebellion, he was part of it, he chose to reject god first. and then he AND aziraphale have to come to realize that that still doesn't make what was done to him and the other demons justified

hey! I’ve never read anything by JG Ballard, do you have any recommendations or particular favourites for me to start with?
Firstly there is an absolute mountain of content warnings. A LOT of fucked up sexual stuff. A lot of stuff that is designed to be shocking / graphic / frightening / unsettling. A lot of gore and violence. If you've read other postmodern lit of a similar kind of vibe (William S. Burroughs, Nabokov, plus Bret Easton Ellis or Chuck Palahniuk for more modern authors) you're probably fine though.
If you want a slightly more gentle introduction, go for Cocaine Nights or Super-Cannes. (You don't necessarily need to read both - Ballard develops similar scenes and Super-Cannes is pretty much a redux of Cocaine Nights). Ballard writes in an interesting literary style and there's nothing too shocking (we're using Crash here as a metric, though, so the bar is pretty high for shock factor). It's a nice introduction to Ballard's general themes - he's nihilistic about the British public, there's a kind of surreal hedonism about everything, he pokes and prods at social structures and exposes them as being empty and arbitrary. I really need to reread Cocaine Nights actually, it's been a while.
If you want to go for the super fucked up & weird stuff straight away, you should read Crash. Crash is THE Ballard book for me. A "psychopathic hymn" to the automobile. Set and written in London in the 1970s and it's all about the kind of ant-hill energy of all this infrastructure we build for ourselves as we drive around in these huge metal creatures that will inevitably kill us. It's also about the celebrity, about fetishism (in a lot of different ways) and also a scarily accurate prediction of the car-crash death of Princess Diana. It's tough to get into (I tried to read it for the first time when I was about 15 and dropped it after about 30 pages because the sex is everywhere and all the time. It's not sexy either - it's deliberately weird and uncomfortable.) But once you can get past that (and you recognise the kind of tongue-in-cheek energy that Ballard is writing with) then you start to realise the brilliance of the whole thing. It's so good. It's insane. It changed my brain forever.
You should also read some of Ballard's short fiction! You can get a lot of it compiled in a book called The Atrocity Exhibition (get the version with footnotes if you can) and it's dense and confusing a lot of the time, but it's also got some really interesting stuff in there. You can read quite a few of these stories online.
^ The Assassination of John Fitzgerald Kennedy Considered As A Downhill Motor Race - short, funny, wacky, pretty tame (not gory/graphic/sexual).
^ Why I Want to Fuck Ronald Reagan - unfortunately this website is badly formatted and plagued with ads so might be better to Internet Archive search or look for a PDF somewhere (if you dare). This one goes into the car crash fetish stuff so, uh... don't read if that's not your thing. But again, once you get past the kneejerk "what the fuck thats so gross and weird" reaction, it's a very funny satire. (Although I have to say, read Crash first. Crash contextualised ALL of Ballard's work for me.)
The interesting thing about this one is that Reagan WASN'T President when Ballard wrote this - he seemed to predict the future here, too. This also led to a lot of Ballard's stuff being banned in all corners of the world. Because it's sacrilegious to write about fucking the President lmfao
