‘Xianxia’ (meaning ‘immortal heroes’) is a fantasy TV genre based on Chinese mythology and the concept of chivalrous spirit. It involves high fantasy materials like Cultivation, Gods, Demons, Heaven and Hell.
Till the End of the Moon | Love between Fairy and Devil | The Starry Love | Ashes of Love | Love and Destiny | Immortal Samsara | Ancient Love Poetry | Eternal Love of Dream | Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms | Love and Redemption
Luckily, their shoulders appear to be broad enough to carry BOTH the universe and their torch for the demon royal who they first meet as an animal and who chases them like her life depends on it.
Zhe Yan (Chen Chuhe) and Bai Zhen (Huang Junjie) from Eternal Love of Dream.
I have not seen this show but from what I've read about it, these two characters goals in life is basically to hang out with each other and drink wine. I dunno about you but that feels a bit gay to me xD
Zhang Qiling (Huang Junjie) and Wu Xie (Zhu Yilong) from Reunion Sound of the Providence.
Do I even need to say anything. The people who know Pingxie will understand me
Lin Quishi (Huang Junjie) and Ruan Nanzhu (Xia Zhiguang) from The Spirealm.
So many heart eyes. Pulled from the site after two hours and it's kinda clear why. The sparks were flying!
There is such a lack of appreciation for Chinese xianxia dramas. This is the kind of fantasy that I enjoy. It can be absolutely dramatic and tragic and I’ll keep watching it when I’d normally have dropped it anywhere else.
eternal love of dream really said even my shadow would recognize yours and fall in love with it. losing you was never ending winter. take my heart and wear it on your finger. who cares about fate when we are holding hands at the end of all things.
I'm rewatching Love Between Fairy and Devil and it's really early but now that I know what happens later on I can pick up better on details and something that stood out for me is the moment when Xiao Lanhua falls into the Haiotian Tower and for all intents and purposes she should have/could have died from the whiplash and from being imprisoned. She got hurt protecting Changheng and her primordial spirit was already broken...
But then she screams and calls for help.
And that is when everything changes. The Xishan seal sparks up the life hearing the calling and her chest/heart area lights up. Then her magic - although neither she nor we know that at the time - guides her to safety, to help.
Guides her to Dongfang Qingcang.
And that's just beautiful and so telling of what happens later on. It's the best kind of foreshadowing.
It also reminded me so so much of Donghua Dijun and Bai Fengjiu. Not because those two had a similar scene, but because of the phrase that came to my mind rewatching this now: wow those two are so fated to be together that nothing could ever stop their trajectory to one another
And that immediately triggered my Donghua/Fengjiu brain into thinking about how not fated those two were and how much they fought to be together and to defy destiny and prove their love deserved to be fulfilled
Anyway that's just a little food for though, back to watching now
Almost all wuxia and xianxia cdrama ending be like...
After the epic battle which cannot be won and trying very method possible. Either both or one of the protagonists will sacrifice themselves to defeat the final boss and bring peace and order in all realms.
But.
The time, their true love or their good karma will bring them back, at the very last minute of the drama.
