Eurovision Fact #466:
Tumblr media
For a majority of Finland's time in the Eurovision Song Contest, the nation has opted to sing in Finnish.
The nation sang exclusively in Finnish until 1973, when Marion Rung's 'Tom Tom Tom' brought English language songs into the mix. This was due to the fact that 1973 saw changes to the contest's language rules, allowing all participants to sing in any language of their choosing.
For four straight years, the nation only sent songs that were in English, but this streak was ended by the reintroduction of the language rules allowing nations to only sing in their national languages. Thus, the nation sang in Finnish (and Swedish once) until 1994.
However, the English included in CatCat's 'Bye Bye Baby' was simply the song's title repeated as a chorus.
Finland took a bit of a break from the Eurovision Song Contest after 1998, but when they returned, the language rules were no more, and thus began a streak of English language songs from 2000 to 2007.
After 2008, the nation sang in Finnish only four times, and tried their hand at singing in Swedish once more as well.
Käärijä's 2023 song 'Cha Cha Cha' marks the first time in eight years that Finland sent a Finnish language song to the contest, and it's the most successful Finnish language song in the history of the contest.

ik no one cares about this, but it's pissed me off ever since I learned about it:
'Eres Tu' by Mocedades (Spain 1973) ENTIRELY plagiarized 'Brez Besed' by Berta Ambrož (Yugoslavia 1966).
Ik it doesn't matter anymore, but anyone with ears should've been able to tell. The song should've been disqualified, change my mind.
What makes it sting more is that 'Eres Tu' became wildly popular, while like no one remembers 'Brez Besed.' Idk, it just makes me sad.
Here are the songs if you want to listen:

Daily update post:
Another one that I start with news of a terrorist attack. -_- This morning, a terrorist started shooting at several vehicles driving down the Jordan Valley, one of which was a school bus. The driver of this bus confirmed that the terrorist was wearing what looked like an IDF uniform. According to Magen David Adom (Red Star of David) there are at least 3 people injured, one is a 13 years old kid, another is in serious condition. The terrorist has not yet been neutralized.
Tumblr media
After Amit Soussana's testimony about being raped by Hamas, we also have a Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terrorist admitting during an interrogation that he had raped a woman in her home in an Israeli kibbutz. It's not the first such testimony, but these are important enough that when they're published, they ALL must be heard.
The prosecution against the terrorists responsible for the massacre of October 7 has been expanded to include clauses which could end with the death penalty (I found a link to a journalistic source online, then I accidentally closed that tab, and can't find it again, but it's been reported on TV. The following tweet recounts the indictments, though the headline is misleading. A death sentence has not been approved, it's just now approved that it's a possible outcome of the trials, once they take place).
Tumblr media
For those unfamiliar with the Eurovision Song Contest, it's an event that has been run since 1956, with the intent to help heal a post-war Europe, by allowing countries to have a friendly competition (instead of a bloody conflict), and also have a chance to get to know each other better through music. It's meant to be a unifying, and therefore also a-political fun music fest. This contest has since been expanded to include all countries that are members of the European Broadcasting Union, which means Israel also gets to compete since 1973, and has even won 4 times. I wrote this post about our entry this year, if anyone's curious. In recent years, the ESC has been used for annual anti-Israel propaganda, way before the war in Gaza. This year, a senior official in Israel's National Security Office had to issue a warning for any Israelis going to the competition in Sweden, to be careful and hide their identity as much as possible. I am passing along the warning, because wherever Israelis are in danger, so are Jews in general.
Tumblr media
After Canada, Sweden, Australia and Finland, now France is also declaring that it will fund UNRWA again, proving that no amount of complicity in anti-Jewish terrorism will stop some European countries from passing along money to those who have raped, maimed, tortured and murdered us. But no worries! France promises it will ensure that their money won't go to terrorism. I will just remind everyone that France brokered a "deal" to pass along medications to Israeli hostages with chronic illnesses in Gaza, in exchange for an additional 1,000 packages of meds for Gazans. It then said they got reassurance that the meds got to those hostages (meaning, France quoted Qatar, which quoted Hamas, so this is the international diplomacy version of, "Trust me, bro. I'm a highly reliable antisemitic terrorist"). When Israeli soldiers got to a hospital in Gaza, they found some of the med packages for the Israeli hostages in its pharmacy, unopened and clearly not delivered to the rightful address. So... IDK about you, but I'm pretty sure even the French know their assurances about the UNRWA funding are just empty words.
Tumblr media
This is 40 years old Mohammad Alatrash.
Tumblr media
He's an Israeli Bedouin Muslim Arab, and father of 13, including a one month old baby. He was kidnapped on Oct 7, and has been held captive in Gaza since. Mohammad's uncle said the whole family's life has not been normal since he was taken hostage. Despite that, today several families of hostages had a tour of the attacked communities in the south, with Israel's and Belgium's Foreign Ministers, his brother Salem said that they're okay with Mohammad being released later, as long as Hamas frees the female hostages. "It's hell what they're made to go through there." Just a reminder that Mohammad is one of the Israeli Muslim hostages that Hamas could have and chose not to release even during the month holy to all muslims, Ramadan.

Apollo Program: Block I Command and Service Modules
Tumblr media
The Apollo Command and Service Module (CSM) contract was award to North American Aviation on November 28, 1961. At the time, the plan was to land the entire CSM on the lunar surface via the direct ascent and the initial design did not include a means to dock with another spacecraft. Later on this was changed to the lunar orbit rendezvous and lunar landing would be preform via the Lunar Module. This required a major redesign of the CSM and in 1963, NASA decided the most efficient way to keep the program on track was to proceed with the development in two versions:
Block I: the preliminary version for early low Earth orbit test flights only.
Block II: the new lunar-capable version, which included a docking hatch, incorporating weight reduction and lessons learned from the Block I.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The CSM Block I was to be used for all uncrewed Saturn IB (AS-201 & AS-202) and Saturn V (AS-501 & AS-502) test flights, plus two manned missions. This was changed to only one in late 1966, being Apollo AS-204, aka Apollo 1. After the Apollo 1 fire all manned missions were to use the improved Block II versions.
Block I Command and Service Modules produced:
CSM-001: systems compatibility test vehicle, used on propulsion tests at White Sands Missile Range. Completed tests on September 7, 1968. CSM scrapped.
CSM-002: used for powered on tumble abort tests, flew on A-004 Little Joe II, January 20, 1966, at White Sands Missile Range. Modified to 002A.
CM-002A: used to in land drop tests. Modified to 002B
CM-002B: used on pogo tests at Downey, California. Modified to BP-23. On display
Tumblr media
On display at the Cradle of Aviation Museum, Garden City, New York.
CSM-003: cancelled before construction began
CSM-004: structural tests, CM modified to 004B.

Storia Di Musica #319 - Black Country Communion, Black Country Communion, 2010
Decisamente rock.

Okay, so... as hopefully all of you know, round 1 of the GOAT Eurovision Winner Showdown will start tomorrow, on Monday. Just like with round 0, one poll will be posted each day at 5pm UTC/GMT time and run for 24h.
However, as I was preparing the poll posts I noticed that the second poll of round 1, due to be posted on Tuesday... Is this:
Tumblr media
Hey, blame the RNG, not me.
Anyway, perhaps there's no need for this post, but I just wanted to remind everyone to remain impartial. I'm aware of the discontent towards the 2023 winner. Heck, I share it. However, poll 2 will pit "Tu te reconnaîtras" (1973) against "Euphoria" (2012). Whatever your feelings are about "Tattoo", please, save them for poll 32, which will pit "Vivo cantando" (1969) against "Tattoo" (2023). When poll 2 goes live on Tuesday, vote for the song you think is better, don't let what happened in this year's ESC influence your vote for poll 2

Eurovision Fact #435:
Tumblr media
Luxembourg has won the Eurovision Song Contest at least once in almost every decade that they've competed in.
The nation has participated since the 50s, and had the privilege of winning in the 60s (1961 & 1965), 70s (1972 & 1973), and 80s (1983).
However, they missed out on a win in the 50s and 90s. The nation then withdrew in the early 90s.

Ot3 fake-dating fanfic idea:
Your main character has a top secret job that they have to travel a lot for - when asked by their date why they had to leave in a hurry, in a panic they said it's because they're actually poly/ in an open relationship and have to go home to their partner. They don't expect to get a second date after that, but lo and behold actually the date calls back and over time they get into a mostly long-distance relationship - in which the lies about their 'other relationship' quickly pile up...
Now the date wants to meet the other partner, maybe because the main character made them seem much too nice - and now they have to pretend to be in a relationship with their co-worker....
Please @ me if anybody writes this, no matter the fandom!

Because obvs it doesn't show the full posts, espesh with moodboards, I added screenshots of the actual top posts below, plus some other interesting facts!
What I'd also love to have on the year in review is: what posts did I reblog the most times? What was my longest reply conversation? How many times did I reach post limit, and how often did I change my blog heading/description?
Wbu guys, any more ideas? :D
~
The one-pic previews for the moodboards re also rly pretty xD but here's the real deal
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Adsfg that's what happens if the post gets squished small while font size stays the same huh? Well I hope that doesn't happen on many phones without the year in review background... Oh well!
~
My top post results almost got skewed by memeing to 1 thing again! Not as badly as last year with 100% ESC content, but Goncharov definitely made it in xD even though I made most of the posts, all the non Katya/Sofia ones rly, on sideblogs... Thankfully lmao! Also # N°2!!!
Apropos top hashtags, x is my tag to separate rambling from search tags so that's obviously on a lot of posts... & It's cool that Andromaquynh is apparently still my most blogged about, or at least most tagged, ship! Though that it's the only ship in the top 10 is also rather fascinating
& then queen dead - cue crabs! My anti royalty tag combo made it onto the list, in the correct order even xD
And of Course there's threshold day up there as well lmao. Reached post limit for that
~
If you're on mobile and the archive link I put on the '133 posts created' doesn't work, here's one for mobile also including reblog additions and the like, or here's the archive link to copy to your mobile browser:

Idk whether to be proud or worried that I'm on here too much for my stuff to show up on so many ppls dashs xDxD
& while there are some beloved mutuals and long-time followers on that list, there are also several I've never seen before?? Did they change their urls recently or do they post so little that I never noticed them in my notes even though I'm one of their biggest post suppliers? I may never know xD
Ahh I checked again and @falyakonmp3 @glassbearclock I think I know your sideblogs? TOG fandom for the win :D fits in with that being in my top hashtags twice :) happy you guys enjoy my reblog collection & mayhaps occasional original content!
just one blog mystery left xD frog who are you

I was gonna say ExcUse YOu tumblr, I gave 2 gifts this year??? Then realized it might have been from a different account
Anyway I gave crabs twice, I wanted to give someone checkmarks for her birthday the second time but that wasn't possible so crabs it was!
I also got a gift once this year, at least I think it was this year? Some months back anyway I got ad-free tumblring for a month!
Anyone want to gift me that again, or crabs for my birthday this weekend? :D

That Pikachu ad man made it onto the yir gif is hilarious!

& Yes I am back in the country & somewhat back on tumblr, too!
Not too active yet bc uni stuff I need to catch up on, so I'll keep my heading for another week or so, but I'm reachable again 😁
Not that I've been completely out of contact, the Airbnb had wifi and I've uploaded a lot of pics in my insta stories, those who follow me might've seen... But I've been completely off tumblr and discord to enjoy my vacay, even when I did have wifi
