Eurovision 2004: The Interval Act and Other Performances
Two shows, two intervals! It's the first bit of new programming needed for this year's Eurovision. You can do the same postcards in both contests. The scoring sorts itself out, but what are you doing to do about the musical bits? You need something different for each show.
Starting with the semi-final and one of the weirdest interval acts there's ever been - and also one of the hardest to see today in context. A six-minute long comedy film featuring ABBA as puppets made by the Jim Henson workshop. It features the band auditioning in 1974 for a record company executive played by Rik Mayall.
Having this in the middle of what is a thoroughly Turkish show featuring traditional drumming is a bit odd to say the least. 2004 was the 30th anniversary of ABBAs win and since their fractious split in the 1980s, their popularity and pull was only increasing. The demand for appearances, reformations and shows was getting louder all the time - so how to achieve this when they were no wanting to appear publicly? Why not puppets?
The entire short was called ABBA - Our Last Video Ever, a title that carried with it the air of something celebratory, momentous, and definitively final. Something that had been wanted for more than a decade and was here. The reality didn't meet those expectations, it being more of a comedy sketch and with very little actually in the way of the members of ABBA.
If you bought or saw the full semi-final after the night it was show, the ABBA short wasn't there - you had to buy it separately, and for a while was exceedingly hard to find.
The Grand Final stuck more to tradition with lines of dancers, instrumentalists and drummers. All aspects of Turkish musical culture were covered in a presentation by the group Fire of Anatolia, a huge dance ensemble. The scale and tradition of it did harken back to Riverdance in terms of ambition, although the result didn't have the same impact.
The one other musical number was Sertab Erener opening the show with a reprise of her winning song Everyway that I Can as well as another of her songs Leave. The first song had the same choreography as her win, but with male dancers and Sertab herself was fully dressed in gold. For the second half of the show, a group of Sufi sama dancers spinning and whirling around her.
There was a mid-run break in the grand final - but this served as an attempt to go around watch parties being held in Europe, although the link-up mostly failed leaving the hosts to fill while adverts aired on TV.

listen, listen…I know we love our filth over here but this thought would not leave me so I shall share 🥹🥹 but the men who pray over you. Not necessarily in a religious sense or anything but the kind that are so thankful you’re in their lives, they just have to show gratitude for it. OKAy!! so as we know Eren is cautious of putting you on his main/public spam but he genuinely really wants to post more of you so he has a private insta where it’s mostly just his irl friends and family who can follow it
He’s on this account waaaay more but its actually amusing because most of his family dont know that he’s a public figure/internet famous. Not because he’s scared to tell them but simply because they’d just embarrass the hell out of him sudidxkdk so erens tricked them into thinking that his priv spam is his main. the only consequence to that is that they always urge him to treat it like Facebook TM
“Habibti, post that baba picture I sent you the other day on instagram.” Carla directs towards Eren but says as she scrolls on her phone.
“Oh my gosh, Eren’s baby photos?! Let me see!” Hearing part of the conversation, Dina comes from around the table to look over Carla’s shoulder, eager to see her step-son’s adolescent stage.
Rolling his eyes, Eren only slugs his feet towards the fridge to get himself something for the two of you to eat. Don't get him wrong, he was happy his mother and step-mother got along but together they were an insufferable pair.
“Amma, why would I show everyone my baby pictures? That’s too embarrassing. In every picture my hair always looks dodgy. If I didn’t know it was me in them, I’d think the child was neglected.” He joked.
With an expression of shock, Carla looked over at her son.
“What you mean you looked neglected? Your hair always looked right! I always made sure to have it cut and nice on the sides. Not like how you and your Abba have it now, all long and untidy.”
“My hair isn’t untidy.” He’d mumble. Not because he was ashamed in his hair but because he knew saying anything louder would count as backtalk and therefore get him in trouble.
“Hey, darling! Come!” Upon seeing you enter the kitchen, Carla beckoned for you to come to her. Unsuspecting of what conspired before you came in, you glanced in Eren’s direction before walking in to his mother instead.
“Hey Mama.” You’d say as you stood next to her.
Seeing the cheeky expression on her face and the quick look she made in Eren’s direction, you knew she was up to no good.
“Look, look.” She’d say in a hushed tone, gleefully turning her phone in your direction. “This when Eren was a baby.”
In her hand was a picture of a child who sat in the bath tub, face displaying childish tantrum. Clearly the child had a disdain for the bath time activity but what made the picture all the more memorable was the plethora of bubble suds that mounted on top of his head.
“No way. That’s Eren?” You laughed behind your hand.
Unaware of what was going on behind him but hearing his name in conversation, the brunette turned around to witness the commotion.
“What the— Amma, No!”
Even though its mostly embarrassing, Eren genuinely likes when you interact with his family. They were so receptive of you from the first time they met you. To a certain extent he even believes they like you a lot better than him 😭😭 They make this especially clear in his comments section

Speaking of Eren being an abba stan. Angeleyes was literally Dina's song. Like every lyrics just fits her
That's kind of sad tbh. But am I the only one that thinks that Dina and Grisha weren't as in love? Like it was more of infatuation and the fact that they were in the same revolution plan since she had royal blood, like it was all that it was based on, the revolution, even Zeke for him was just the Revolution.
But I don't know maybe Dina was very much in love, but Grisha? IDK. I have my doubts on that but that song fits her very much.
It would have been interesting to see mindless titan last moments like where she becomes conscious again and we see what the nightmare was like.

Hi everyone! Just wanted to let you know that I have exams after this weekend, so I probably won't be uploading any stories until they're finished :( I just wanted to let you know which 3 requests I will be writing soon:
1: A fluff story where everyone's having a bad day, especially Levi, and reader tries to cheer them up by cooking some delicious food!
