Sunghoon did not want to be here.

He hated public gatherings, he hated crowds, he hated having to entertain the likes of his people. But yet, he enjoyed attention— the praise, the glowing eyes whenever people saw him. It doesn’t mix well together, but Sunghoon has learned to deal with it ever since he reigned as King.

‘Almighty’, ‘Superior’, it’s those words that Sunghoon describes himself as. His head tilted up high, the signature smile he perfected whenever he had to show himself— Sunghoon knows that he has an image to protect and he swore in whatever favor that he’ll be that shining star that Decelis perceives him to be.

But today he had to be extra careful. Not only is it because he’s surrounded by the students of the prestigious Decelis University, but the Princess of the neighbouring nation has decided to join him.

He never liked relations, and he never liked Princess Yizhuo. The mere thought of standing next to her suffocated him. His mother had always talked so highly of her and even with the countless times Sunghoon had told his mother his feelings, she brushes it away.

However, it’s not the first time he’s seen her. So Sunghoon decides to bite the side of his cheek and bear it all.

The crowd cheers as soon as Sunghoon exits his van, he smiles and waves at the people waiting for him as he enters the tent to get himself ready. He lets out a huff as he sits down, his eyes closed as he rubs his temples to relieve the small headache he’s bearing.

“You need to look happier.” Jay comments, sitting right next to him.

“I am happy.” Sunghoon replies in monotone, a snicker leaving Jay.

“Princess.” Jay stands up to bow, causing Sunghoon to look up from the floor to meet eyes with Yizhuo standing before him.

“Your majesty.” Yizhuo bows slightly and Sunghoon brushes her off with his hand, standing up to leave her. He did not want to be reminded of why he was here.

“You need to stop doing that.” Jay whispers as he follows Sunghoon from behind, a sigh leaving his lips.

“It’ll be fine. Jake worries too much.”

“No! I just missed his entrance!” Jungwon pouts as he runs up to the crowd of students hovering over the tent. Y/N couldn’t help but smile at the younger’s reaction, giving Jungwon a pat on the shoulder for reassurance.

“Don’t worry, you’ll see him soon.” Y/N’s words made Jungwon smile as he waited excitedly for the King to come out.

Y/N could see Riki with his arms crossed, clearly unhappy to be here. His eyebrows crossed, huffs leaving his mouth every second— Y/N couldn’t help but laugh.

“At least look like you’re excited to be here.”

“Jungwon should be lucky to have me as a friend.” Riki comments before holding back a smile. Jungwon’s excited backside was too entertaining to ignore.

“It’ll be nice to see what the King looks like in real life.” Sunoo joins in.

As soon as Sunoo says his words, the crowd suddenly cheers, causing Y/N and the rest of her friends to turn towards the commotion. The King in his uniform, dressed up in all black with the Princess of Riverfield on his arm. They both wave to the crowd in front of them, giving each and every one a sharp smile before heading to the filming location. The herds of people following them with every step, and a very excited Jungwon jumping up and down.

Y/N watches as both King Sunghoon and Princess Yizhuo make their way. Yizhuo’s eyes never leave the side of King Sunghoon’s face. Was it admiration? Y/N thought as she shifted towards the King who completely ignored her presence. From the look on Princess Yizhuo’s face, Y/N could tell that there was something unspoken between the two of them.

Paying no mind, Y/N watches as the royals start filming their video. In one take, both of them had managed to film everything smoothly. As expected of the royals.

“Jungwon, my class is about to start. I have to go get my books now.” Y/N taps Jungwon’s shoulder and he nods, “Sunoo, I’ll see you in class.”

Y/N walks off to the campus building hoping to get her belongings in time.

“God, that was a waste of time.” Sunghoon loosens his tie before making his way at the back of the campus building.

“Be quiet.” Jay hushes as he catches up to Sunghoon.

Sunghoon wanted some time to himself, having to entertain himself in front of so many of his people. He felt like he couldn’t breathe from all the commotion as well as the facade he had to put up with Princess Yizhuo.

“I’m just saying…” He reaches down to his pockets, a packet of cigarettes in his hand.

“Not here.” Jay nods towards the packet in the King’s hand, taking it from him before anyone could see.

“Just one?” Sunghoon pleads with a slight whine, causing Jay to cringe at his best friend. A deep sigh left him before passing the box back to him, knowing that if he didn’t allow it he would annoy him for the rest of the day.

Sunghoon never enjoyed smoking. Though, sometimes he does it just to test the waters. How long will his mother notice? How much could he do until the rest of Decelis realises that he isn’t so clean and pristine as Decelis makes him out to be? To him, it’s his source of entertainment. ‘The thrill of living on the edge’, he says— he wanted to see how much he could do with the title he has.

With the stick between his lips he searches for the lighter in his pockets, “Princess Yizhuo is so annoying. She kept trying to get my attention, she kept looking at me.”

“It’s kind of her job.” Jay comments. “She needs to make an impression for your people and you.”

He kicks the dirt on the floor, “It’s just suffocating, even today— I don’t even understand why I have to be here. Like I really don’t care.”

“Wow.”

An unfamiliar voice reaches Sunghoon’s ears and his eyes widen. Taking the cigarette out of his mouth tossing it onto the floor, he turns to see a student staring right at him.

After collecting her books, Y/N had some time before making her way to class. There was less of a crowd now, and most students have returned to their usual spots.

‘Hm…what should I do before class?’ Y/N turns before seeing a familiar backside.

She notices the King making his way out of the campus building with his bodyguard following behind. Though Y/N usually would have paid no attention, she noticed how excited Jungwon was when he saw him.

‘Maybe I should get an autograph for Jungwon.’

Following behind the King, Y/N trails behind, hoping to not startle him. She makes her way to the back of the building, ready to approach him until her jaw drops at the scene, along with the obscure words she manages to eavesdrop.

She couldn’t help but voice out her thoughts.

And as soon as the King looks straight into her eyes, she shakes her head in disappointment. Y/N could hear a faint ‘Fuck’ coming from him.

As cliché as it sounds, ‘Don’t judge a book by it’s cover’.

Chan and Lisa are happily married. They went off on honeymoon that day and were gone for a month.

With Minho and Rose being outed as a couple, everyone's assumed they're in charge...

Nope, cause when mother and father are away the children play, so to stop that, Yoongi is in charge while Chan and Lisa are away.

Yoongi essentially let's everyone be chaotic.

His philosophy is get all of this chaotic energy out while I'm here and you won't get in trouble like they would if Chan & Lisa were here.

With that free pass, everyone is chaotic. No one comes on time.

Well Ynjay do but it's only because YN forces Jay to be on time and since Jay is still scared of Yoongi he agrees.

Which was silly of them since Yoongi himself walks into the office at 10 😂. Looks at Ynjay and sighs.

He tells Jay to go home and that it's a sibling day. Yoongi takes YN home and they spend the day hanging out.

Yoongi gives YN strict instructions not to come in before 10 while he's in charge.

Yoongi decides to mess with Minho, it's just a bit of fun but then Jake accidentally tells Yoongi abt the time Minho shouted at YN.

Remember when the prank was done by Sunsun but YN was blamed.

Yeah YN never told Yoongi abt it knowing he'd want to get revenge. Which he does now.

Yoongi makes Minho do all his bidding, he's got Minho making coffee runs, getting lunch ordered for everyone with his card, sending emails and other paperwork that Minho hates doing.

YN after a week of this tells Yoongi go stop and Minho is so grateful he practically tackles YN to the ground in a hug 😂.

After a month Chan and Lisa are back, honestly surprised that these lot haven't burned the building to the ground.

On they're first day back they're surprised with a banner that says welcome back Work Eomma and Appa 💗.

Which Lisa finds cute but Chan tells everyone to clean up and get to work cause he knows that everyone be slacking when he's not around.

They thank Yoongi who just laughs and says he had a lot of fun looking at Minho who laughs awkwardly.

So things go back to normal, well as normal as things can be in Belift Publishing.

Jay made it a point to not flaunt the relationship out of respect for Heeseung but that stopped very quickly.

When Heeseung figured out what he was doing and would push them together publicly 😂.

Heeseung made it a point to carry on the bonding that his editing team and YNs had.

So that's quite a few trips and outings that they all go on together.

Everyone kinda pairs up on these, somehow Heeseung and Yunjin keep getting together...

At first Yunjin is making sure Heeseung is okay being around Ynjay.

After that she just has fun with being Heeseungs unofficial partner.

Same with Heeseung, he's realising that Yunjin really is his bestie.

He loves Jay but Jays in a relationship now so Yunjin is his work bestie.

YN suspects there's something going on but knows that Yunjin or Heeseung won't mention it to her so her and Kazuha come up with a plan.

During a night out with the whole office, Kazuha gets Yunjin drunk and YN tells Heeseung to drive her home.

Ynzuha have told Yunjin that Jay is the one driving her home rants abt how unfair it is that she's fallen for her work bestie.

Which shocks Heeseung but he gets her home safely, tucks her into bed and stays the night on her sofa to make sure she's okay thru the night.

Yunjin wakes up in the morning to breakfast being made and is all happy to thank Jay... Until she sees it's Heeseung...

Heeseung learning from his previous mistakes asks Yunjin abt what she said last night.

Yunjin admits she meant it and Heeseung admits he spent the whole night being introspective abt his feelings.

He thinks there's something there but he totally understands if Yunjin doesn't want to try something.

Yunjin wants to take the risk cause she doesn't want to lose this if there is something more between them.

All the girls are called to help Yunjin get ready for the first date. Similarly Heeseung calls the guys.

The date goes great and at this point one year later they're still happily dating.

Now Jungwon, Niki & Eunchae were interns, the time of truth abt if they've gotten the job comes.

Unsurprisingly they do and it's announced that Sunoo is being promoted and will be their senior editor.

Sunoo is shocked... Minho tells him that he saw how Sunoo took over HWs work and got his stuff and hers done so it's only right he gets a reward for that.

Speaking of HW... About 6 months after the end, she tries to sell YNs story of her manipulations to Belift...

Unfortunately it goes to Yoongi and he calls her into his office, without her knowing who she'll be meeting and goes at her.

All the things Yoongi never said to her face, he says now. Hye Won tries to leave but out comes Kazuha and Minho stopping her.

Kazuha gets one punch and then while HW is there with a broken nose goes into her abt how much she hates HW.

Minho tells HW everything he's wanted to say since they met at uni.

And then Jay, Chan and Heeseung come to escort HW out with the whole office screaming at her to never come back.

Now onto some Ynjay fluff.

YNs mom and Jay meet quite by accident. Jay's staying at YNs flat whole some work happens at his.

He's making breakfast when someone comes thru the door, thinking it's Yoongi hyung/Kazuha/Yunjin/Heeseung, Jay calls them into the kitchen.

Imagine his shock when he turns around with a plate of food only to see his gfs mother smirking at him.

The plate of food he's holding falls to the ground which causes YN to come running and she sees her Eomma.

Her mother smiles at YN and loudly proclaims that pictures don't do Jay justice and that he should call her mother in law.

After things have been cleaned up and YNs mum tastes Jays food she tells YN to marry him and tells Jay that he is her son like Minho and Yoongi.

Now Jay is the one who teaches YNs mother how to video call.

YN doesn't have the patience and her mother calls at the worst times on a voice call so she dreads a video call from her mother.

Yoongi tried to teach her but it ended badly so no one talks about it.

Every other day Jay is getting video calls from YNs mum, mainly about food and recipes but there is the odd call about the drama of a small town.

Yeah Rose is still trying to convince YNs mother to write the book abt small town shenanigans.

Awkwardness happens when at dinner with his family, YNs mother calls Jay.

Jay and YN were cleaning the dishes when YNs mum called, Jimin picked up the phone and is shocked to see an older version of YN calling.

Jisoo comes and sees that it's YNs mum so both of them start charming her.

Jay's parents wondering who their son & daughter in law are talking come to see.

That is how Jays parents meet YNs mum. From that one video call, YNs mum now has the numbers of her daughter's boyfriends family.

They all communicate, they've got a groupchat that they refuse to let Jay or YN join much to their annoyance.

Jimin and Jisoo make fun of Jay cause YN never wears any nice jewelry and does he need money or advice on what jewelry to get his girlfriend.

YN loves him for him and doesn't need any fancy things.

But for the sake of Jay not being teased to death agrees to small not that expensive but fancy jewelry or accessories as gifts every 3 months

Jay negotiated that to every month, so now YNs getting nice jewellery and Jay isn't being teased by his brother and sister in law anymore.

Jay nearing the one year anniversary of their date confides in Heeseung that he wants to propose.

Heeseung obvs tells Yunjin and eventually the whole office barring YN knows about Jay thinking abt proposing.

Everyone wants to help, each proposal idea getting crazier and crazier.

Jay at this point hadn't let Yoongi know abt his plan to propose so when he rejects everyones ideas.

He braces himself to go and talk to Yoongi abt it. Even tho it's been close to a year, Jay is still kinda scared of Yoongi.

He tells Yoongi and expects a whole lecture instead he gets a gummy smile and Yoongi welcoming him into the family.

Jay asks Yoongi for advice on how to propose and Yoongi simply tells him to do what he feels is right.

YN will be happy with anything but it should come from him not anyone else.

In the end Jay proposes at Rose and Minho's engagement party. He asks them beforehand if they'd mind and they happily give permission.

With Rose telling Jay that she's shipped it from the beginning and would be honoured that her engagement party is where Jay wants to propose to YN.

Minho tells Jay not to worry abt getting his family and YNs there, he'll handle it, just focus on proposing.

During the party YN is quite confused at why Yoongi oppa, her parents and Jays family are there.

As far as she knows, none of them are close for them to be invited. But her questions soon get answers when Jay gets up on stage.

He starts off his speech by saying he knows how much YN hates being the centre of attention but just this once can there be a spotlight on her.

There's a spotlight on YN and she looks very confused and embarrassed.

Jay carries on by telling YN how much he loves her.

They've been thru so much before they even got together and how he wants to be there for her for the rest of their lives.

Jay's walking towards YN this whole time and when he reaches her, he gives the mic to Minho and gets down on one knee and proposes to YN.

She's trying not to cry but says yes and they kiss, he puts the ring on her finger, everyone crowds around to congratulate them.

Just as that is happening, Chan takes the mic and says well this seems like a perfect time to announce that Lisa is pregnant.

Everyones attention goes from YN to Lisa who waves before everyone comes to her and Chan to congratulate them.

Minho gets the mic again, another announcement, this isn't a engagement party but a wedding reception cause Rose and I eloped last week.

Again everyone flocks to Minho and Rose with congratulations but also outrage at not being able to take part in the wedding.

Minho and Chan turn to YN who has let everyone crowd Rose and Lisa.

Chan tells her that he could see her getting overwhelmed and thought he'd take the attention away from her for a bit.

Minho laughs and tells YN that announcing this had always been his plan since he knew how much she hates being the centre of attention.

YN laughs but with tears in her eyes hugs them both.

Heeseung and Yunjin having left the crowd still with Rose and Lisa, stand next to YN.

They tell YN that they're planning to move in together and wanted her to be the first one to know.

Again YN is close to tears and hugs them, telling them to let her know if they need any help moving or looking for apartments.

Jay who uptill now was with YN, hears this and offers for Heeseung and Yunjin to move into his apartment as he'd just moved in with YN a few weeks ago.

They refuse but eventually after everyone at this party convinces them they agree.

On the way home, YN tells Jay how magical the night was and she can't wait to be married to him.

Jay tells her that since the day they met, she's been the one for him and this is just the beginning of their story.
