A people is made happy and prosperous by a wise ruler.*
On Saturday 6th May a man holding a role which is 1,096 years old will be crowned by a man holding an office which is 1,426 years old, in a ceremony which is 1,050 years old.
“The Powers mean to war with the peoples. The intelligence seems positive. Let it be so — they will be beaten in the end. The king-times are fast finishing. There will be blood shed like water, and tears like mist; but the peoples will conquer in the end. I shall not live to see it, but I foresee it.”
— Excerpt from a Lord Byron diary entry dated “January 13th, 1821, Saturday.”
The crown is the best period drama series I ever watched. The writing, the costumes, the cast, research into each events and their execution? Perfection. Yes, it's probably a propaganda to sympathize with the royal family or whatever but gosh, the emotions it invokes...so raw and human. You feel for each character. A lot of historical series are sometimes just overly acted but The Crown was more grounded in that aspect which made me like it so much.
Another historical series I would definitely recommend is Medici the Magnificent. Both of these series have a banging osts.
a fair reminder that it's fucking weird to support ANY royal, but esp weird to support spouses who have WILLINGLY married into a colonialist, imperialist, rampantly racist family and who make profit from that colonisation, imperialism and racism. "But but X is-" they're a shitty person. they WILLINGLY married into a family who have committed genocide and saw nothing wrong w that. they WILLINGLY married into a family who have killed and slaughtered MILLIONS. none of those cunts should be celebrated. the ONLY good royal is a very, very dead one. preferably by hanging or guillotine.
not a SINGLE royal can EVER call themselves a "good" person when they continue to live off of the money of the people. when they continue to use STOLEN TITLES to remind the people of Cymru that we are NOT free as long as their iron fist rules. when they continue to use money bought w the blood of people from India, South Africa, Bangladesh, Pakistan, indigenous Canada, native Americans, Nigeria, Cameroon, Cymru, and many, many, MANY more.
they are all colonisers. they should all be sent to the chopping block.
Inspired by real events, this fictional dramatization tells the story of Queen Elizabeth II & the political and personal events that shaped her reign. Here's the trailer for the final season of The Crown.
To those of you complaining about the joyful reaction over the news of the queen's death: there are a million reasons to celebrate today, and only two to not.
I can understand those who are currently fearful for how this will negatively impact the common citizens of the UK due to the lengths the government will go to "mourn" the queen. Those who are fearful right now have every right to be feeling how they are feeling, and my sympathy goes out to them.
But the other reason? "She was a human being"? Millions of human beings have died because of the English monarchy, Elizabeth II included. Millions more have lived unwillingly under English rule because of the English monarchy, Elizabeth II included.
Human beings die every second of every day. Some deaths go unmourned entirely, while some shake us to our core. But with this death, the reasons to celebrate far outweigh the reason to mourn. It is not specifically the loss of a life we are celebrating, but it is instead what this loss of life means to so many people both now in the present and long in the past.
Have some respect for the staggering number of human lives who have been harmed by this person and everything she represented, and let the world rejoice. This has been a long time coming.
