Exquisiteness cannot be measured by my skin. But by the superlative depths I wear within. "I am not this hair, I am not this skin, I am the soul that lives within." - Rumi

Appreciate that while Lucy Carlyle is a female character with empathy as a superpower she is not the team mom propping everyone up with emotional support. Her normal social development got diverted at age 8 and she has the emotional intelligence of a rock. She thought a glamorous 18 year old lesbian was moving in on her burning the candle at both ends 15 year old sadboy crush. Also she attributes all the physical symptoms of that crush to indigestion. She doesn't ever give The Big Speech but she does end 3 out of 5 books by killing a CEO.

i think while we can acknowledge the queer subtext and themes in the show, it's important to not forget that, historically, women of color have been robbed of their right to be a woman in their own way. it's terribly difficult for a woman of color to exist in any media in a more traditionally masculine way without immediately pivoting to see them as a man because of those feminine traits not being on the surface. the bias of white femininity allows for more masculine white women the grace to still exist as women in their spaces- a grace that poc women are often not allowed. the show creators have stated that mizu is a woman, someone who reflects part of themselves, and while it's fine to have various headcanons about mizu's gender identity, it's not fine to disregard the creator's intent with a character like mizu. mizu represents a lot of the struggles mixed race and mixed cultural women feel and go through, and i personally resonate with her as well as a mixed asian-white woman. again, there's a lot to be said about the queer themes in the show, but the show itself is not a queer show. there are elements there, but the message and plot line i don't believe surrounds a queer allegory so much as it does about poc women struggling to find a place to belong without subscribing to one race or feminine or masculine trait over the other and still be seen as a woman

Guess I'm officially the president of the Marlene Defense Squad. Y'all be having defense squads for beloved characters and don't ever even have to block people. Weak. Imma actually have to fight.

Idk about other breaking bad fans but if I personally was nearing 40 years old pregnant with an unplanned child, married to a man with cancer who consistently lies to me and spends hours away from home every day without letting me know what he’s doing or where he’s going, leaving me to care for the house and high school aged son with cerebral palsy I’d act a little “unlikeable” too

what is it with fandom finding asian women characters annoying, like they said it about keiko from ds9 and jubilee from xmen the animated series and rose tico from star wars and mona from legends of tomorrow and glimmer from she-ra. like why “annoying” specifically, like is their tolerance for immaturity or imperfection just that low when it’s a character who is not white? is it because asian women in popular western media have been depicted as submissive and subservient for so long and these depictions have become so normalized that any time an asian woman onscreen asserts her personhood, audiences find it grating? is it because the (often white) writers reduce these asian women characters to plot devices with little interiority, rendering them one-dimensional and making it difficult for audiences (who are already resistant to identifying with any character who is not a white man) to relate to them? i think it’s probably all of the above to some extent

Fargo is a fantastic show and there’s been a lot of moments that have left me stunned, astonished, thrilled, chilled, absolutely blown-away, but bitch…………...I’m telling you…………..in 5 seasons, nothing has ever gotten me to a state of white-knuckled, gripping the chair, shock and awe…………………like that cover of Toxic……………

Daarin bias disclosed the idea that Karin would take care of Daan and make sure he doesn't commit suicide by Pocketcat post game is. I'd say lol but honestly also very much reads to me as, at best ooc by shipper brain (fine and harmless thing we can all be guilty of) but at worst misogynistically misreadings of her character motivated from culturally ingrained notion that "women should be caregivers and take care of others because that is their biological role."
Karin cares a lot about other people that is an extremely important quality to her but she so clearly fucking sucks the worst out of everyone at extending interpersonal care. As bad or worse than O'saa is at it and he's literally not trying on purpose because the life he led made him believe "emotions make you weak therefore you need to stop complaining and abandon them." Levi the literal picturesque idea of a victim of war that she claims her lifes work purpose is to uplift the voice of, when he's having his ptsd trigger by the Rher trenches Karin does not try to comfort or reassure him she takes the opportunity to soapbox about the bremen again, your personal discretion whether that's a better or worse response than "..."
Karin would not check in on Daan's mental health and make sure he is taking his anti depressants she'd get him committed to a 1940s psychiatric hospital where he'd be put through period appropriate electroshock therapy that she knows about but does not see the cruelty and injustice in because it's just what people like him, the mentally disturbed, deserve to go through if that's what it takes for them to be cured.
