STOP INFLAMING YOUR THYROID WITH THESE 4 FOODS
September 30, 2020 in Nutrition, Women’s Health 0
“What should I eat now that I have this diagnosis?” This is a question I hear all the time, from people who are either dealing with hormone imbalances, thyroid disorders, or autoimmune diseases like Hashimoto’s. While there is no concrete answer to this question (and believe me, I wish there were!), I want to empower you to make the best choices you can make for your body and your health. Let me first say that food is a personal thing. What works for one person may not work for someone else. The best advice I can give is that you listen to your body. This involves finding what makes you feel good and getting rid of the things that don’t! But to help you get started, I want to highlight a few foods that are known to especially affect people with thyroid dysfunction and give you alternatives to help you take ownership of what is going into your body.
#1 – GLUTEN
This is the number one culprit when it comes to thyroid disorders. Gluten is found in the grains wheat, rye, spelt, barley, and triticale (a wheat-rye hybrid), as well as wheat variations like wheatberries, durum, emmer, semolina, farina, farro, graham, and other derivatives. These grains contain a protein called gliadin that your body can easily mistake for a thyroid molecule. If your gut is irritated and inflamed because of sensitivity to gluten or stress, the gliadin protein is able to enter right into your bloodstream. Then, your immune system mistakenly identifies gliadin as an intruder and attacks it by producing antibodies to gliadin. Once these antibodies are formed, they can attack your thyroid gland, essentially compounding the effects of Hashimoto’s and hypothyroidism (an underactive thyroid, meaning you don’t have enough thyroid hormone). (1) Even if it doesn’t get to that point, the inflammation caused by gluten (if you have a sensitivity) can really disrupt the homeostasis between your gut, brain, and thyroid, which causes imbalance and affects your metabolism, energy, brain health, and more. (2) Alternatives: It takes a good 6-8 weeks to completely begin the healing process from gluten issues. Unfortunately, one bite of gluten can set you back to square one. When you go gluten-free, do it hardcore. A whole-foods diet rich with grass-fed animal protein and lots of veggies is your best option. This way, you don’t even have to worry about reading labels If you do venture into the processed realm, be sure to stick with items that have a few identifiable ingredients. And don’t run the risk of cross-contamination. You’ll also need to be ready to ask questions when you go out to eat. Gluten can lurk in salad dressings, marinades, and spice blends. If you are able to tolerate grains, try using brown rice, quinoa, gluten-free oats, or other nutrient-dense foods. Watch out for foods that are labeled “gluten-free” because many of them compensate for the lack of gluten with lots of added sugars and starches that will continue to cause inflammation in your body. You also want to watch out for foods processed in a factory that also handles wheat. Finding alternatives rather than direct replacements is your best bet here. For example, try your favorite pasta dishes on spaghetti squash or other spiralized vegetables instead of gluten-free pasta.
#2 – DAIRY
Many people who are sensitive to gluten are also sensitive to dairy. A study found that 75% of patients with Hashimoto’s were also lactose intolerant. It showed that removing dairy helped balance out their thyroid hormone levels. (3) Dairy can cause more inflammation and makes your body’s pH more acidic, which throws off your thyroid by keeping you from absorbing all the nutrients it needs to thrive. (4, 5) Alternatives: You can use nut milks like coconut, almond, and cashew in place of dairy in most daily uses. Many stores also carry cheeses and yogurts made from these milks. Just read labels to make sure there are no unwanted extra ingredients! Worried about not getting enough calcium without milk? Leafy greens, seeds, and vegetables are full of calcium and other nutrients your body needs to thrive. And the non-dairy alternatives listed above often have a healthy dose of calcium as well. Supplements are also a great option for upping your calcium quotient, and these may be a more bioavailable option than cow’s milk anyway!
#3 – PROCESSED SUGAR AND SUGAR SUBSTITUTES
It is critical that you keep an even blood sugar level to protect your thyroid. Spikes and dips in your blood sugar can make your body feel stressed. This causes cortisol to be released from your adrenal glands. This cortisol slows down your thyroid’s function and can trigger issues with hypothyroidism and Hashimoto’s. (6) Sugar, starchy foods, and carbohydrates all can cause your body to enter this cycle of stress, so it is best to limit them. Artificial sweeteners like aspartame (Equal) and sucralose (Splenda) raise your risk of getting Hashimoto’s because of their effect on TSH levels. A recent study looked at people who consumed artificial sweeteners and had a recent Hashimoto’s diagnosis. The study found that removing these sweeteners caused the subjects to reverse their symptoms and lower their antibody levels. (7)  There is no health benefit to artificial sweeteners, so there is no reason to put them in your body. Alternatives: Cutting sugar out of your diet can be like quitting an addiction. I know it is hard, but it is so worth it. Here are some resources I put together to help you break up with sugar! An alternative I use is stevia because it is natural, plant-based, and will not affect your system like other sweeteners.  Just watch that you don’t overdo the natural sugars like fructose found in fruits!
#4 – CAFFEINE
I know, I know. I love coffee, too! And you don’t want me to mess with your coffee. But hear me out first before you make the decision for yourself… While coffee has been found to have multiple health benefits (8), it is also a known stress-enhancer. (9) So what does this mean? Basically, caffeine is not the problem — your stress is. If you are already feeling stressed (which is a root cause for so many of our thyroid problems), that daily coffee is probably making it worse. When you are stressed and are releasing cortisol into your system, your thyroid function is lowered by your pituitary gland because it is in survival mode. Coffee will just amplify the effects of the cortisol in your system.
Side Note: In some Instances Soy and Soy based Products are also deemed a problem.
Soy has been a topic of debate when it comes to thyroid health. Let’s explore the reasons behind the controversy:
Historical Beliefs:
In the past, soy was classified as a goitrogen, a category of foods that could potentially alter thyroid hormone production and cause the thyroid gland to enlarge (goiter).
Laboratory and animal studies suggested that soy isoflavones might:
Prevent the action of thyroid hormones, leading to hypothyroidism (low thyroid function).
Reduce the absorption of thyroid medications from the intestines.
Stimulate thyroid growth, potentially causing a goiter.
Trigger autoimmune thyroid disease.
Human Studies:
Contrary to animal and laboratory findings, human studies have not consistently shown the same results.
A 2019 meta-analysis of 18 clinical trials found that soy has no significant effect on overall thyroid function.
While soy supplementation was linked to a slight rise in thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels, it did not have clinical significance.
A 2022 review of 417 studies confirmed that soy isoflavones do not negatively impact thyroid function or hormone levels.
Current Understanding:
Soy’s reputation as an endocrine disruptor is not well-supported by current research.
Isoflavones in soy do not significantly affect thyroid function in humans.
However, excessive consumption of soy products may still be problematic for some individuals.
Iodine Interaction:
Soy may alter thyroid function in people who are iodine deficient.
If you have adequate iodine levels, moderate soy consumption is unlikely to harm your thyroid.
In summary, while soy does not directly harm the thyroid, individuals with thyroid conditions should be mindful of their soy intake and consult with a healthcare provider if they have concerns

Stuff to have at home at all times for cooking masterpost (from an italian student).
FRESH
For whatever's sake BREAD. Always have bread. You can make it yourself, you can buy a gigant loaf and stick it in the freezer or buy it every morning together with the paper like ur grandpa, idc just have bread.
Olive oil and butter. Stock-buy both: you can put the butter in the freezer. You can also buy 5l canisters of olive oil.
Onions, or spring onions, when available: they are the official 2 for the price of 1. Prepare soffritto with the white part, add the green part in the end. Also garlic.
Eggs. Easiest thing to cook (just boil them, no need to make a pan dirty just to scramble them). Are also useful for a lot of other recipes. Also, if your eggs are fresh and you are tired, not disgusted and not afraid of salmonella you can wash an egg, poke two holes on both ends and drink it.
Buy whatever vegetables you can get your hands on; it doesn't matter which. Try to find cheap fresh things at ur supermarket, and buy seasonal fruits and vegs. Try not to buy the pre-packaged ones, because you cant choise exactly what u want and the older or crappier things will be stuck in pre-packaged stuff. If you want you can go to the farmer's market. This can be tricky because there are two types of farmer's markets: the fancy ones and the reasonable ones. If there is a big immigrant community (for example from turkey) in your city, just go to the markets they go to, there will most likely be good quality food at a decent price. Be careful with mushrooms, they're always a scam.
You should strive to never run out of salad greens, potatoes and carrots. Buy zucchini, aubergines and tomatoes whenever u get a chance.
Fresh lemon, then any fuit that is not too messy to eat: apples, and oranges in winter, whatever u like in summer. (I vouch for grapes)
BTW, make jam, kompott and stuff like that if u want, then give it to neighbors, flatmates, friends and family in winter: it helps your social status more than u would expect.
For fresh spices: buy a BIG bunch of parsley ONCE, cut it, put it in a jar in the freezer and scrape it off when u need it. Now u dont have to deal with cutting parsley. Ginger is good. Also, have a basil plant .
Have parmigiano, pecorino, some fresh spreadable cheese, and ham/diced pancetta. Also milk for or yogurt for breakfast and cooking if you want. And remember: buy mozzarella; the caprese is your friend in hot, lazy summer days.
Also: buy ground meat, make ragout, stick it in the freezer, survive, thrive, enjoy life.
NOT FRESH
Boullion cubes: always have them, if you want to add the right amount of tastiness and salt just crumble it into the pan and add the water later.
At least some pasta, for when u dont have time. Then rice, and cereals that u can boil and eat like emmer, barley and (personal niche preference) buckwheat; these serve as perfect side carbs to your boiled vegs.
Olives and dried tomatoes in olive oil, and salted capers.
canned tuna, canned or bottled tomato sauce.
Dried beans, lentils, chickpeas.
A shitload of salt, sugar, and flour.
oregano, pepper, dried chilli peppers, soy sauce (if u like), baking powder, + any spice u use a lot.
Great, now you only need to buy the fresh stuff and whatever runs out, and you are settled.

Farro is a very nutritious grain loaded with fiber, protein and some essential minerals and vitamins.
Emmer farro is an excellent source of fiber. A high-fiber diet is associated with a lower risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes and higher levels of gut-friendly bacteria.
Farro is a good source of antioxidants and polyphenols, both of which are thought to play a role in protecting against heart disease, diabetes, stroke and some cancers.
Farro is higher in protein than many other plant-based foods. A diet higher in protein can benefit your health and waistline.
Farro is low in calories but high in protein and fiber. All of these qualities are associated with a healthier body weight.
Farro contains some gluten, so it is not suitable for people with celiac disease or gluten sensitivity.
To get the most of farro’s nutritional benefits, buy a long or medium grade of whole grain farro.
Farro is quite versatile. It can easily be added to soups, stews and salads or used as an oat substitute at breakfast time.

Q is wegens Quips: Mirana Priestly - het kwaadaardige personage uit The Devil Wears Prada gebaseerd op Wintour - staat vertrouwd teneinde haar genadeloze stopwoordje, 'that's all'.
2 jaar rapt Minaj 'really sittin with Anna' in haar nummer Come on a Cone, gebaseerd op haar gunstige frontrowplek naast de editor.

If you follow news, particularly about health and well being, you might have heard about gluten free diets. Gluten free is the latest buzz word in the nutrition industry. Pro-gluten free camp will give you a lot of reason to for it. On the other hand, some researches and reports warn against this diet. It is important to know about it before jumping on the bandwagon. It is never a good idea to blindly adopt a diet, even if the whole world is doing it.
What Is Gluten?
Gluten has been derived from the Latin word gluten, which means glue. It is a generic name for diffreent types of proteins found in wheat (emmer, einkron, durum, wheatberries, farro, graham, semolina, and spelt), rye, barley, and triticale (something like wheat and rye). Gluten is like a glue which holds food together and help it maintain its shape. Gluten gives elasticity to dough, helps it rise, and gives the end product a chewy texture.

Most people go gluten free when they do not even know what gluten is!
Food That Have Gluten
Wheat
Wheat is a component of bread, baked items, pasta, soup, cereal, sauce, salad dressing, and roux.
Barley
Barley is found in malt, food coloring, beer, soups, and some yeasts.
Rye
Rye is found in cereals, rye beer, and rye breads.
Triticale
It is a new grain, and has wheat and barley like qualities. It can be found in breads, cereals, and pastas.
Oats
Many other items also contain gluten, they are often camouflaged.
Benefits of Gluten
Gluten does not only give elasticity and shape to food, it also has many other health benefits. It is used to make seitan, a meat alternative prepared for vegetarians. It is used to make faux beef, faux chicken, and other non vegetarian food. Gluten is also added to food to increase protein content.
Gluten is very high in protein. A 4 ounce portion of seitan has 50% of recommended daily protein. This means around 26 grams of protein. It is also low in fat. Wheat gluten flour has a lot of protein. Protein intake is vital for a healthy body. Lack of protein can also give you hair, ,nail, and skin problems.
Gluten is also high in iron. The amount of iron intake will depend on what you are having. A quarter cup of flour will fulfill 9% of your daily iron requirement. Seitan has a lot more iron, comparatively. An ounce serving of seitan will fulfill 20% of your daily requirement.
Gluten also gives you plenty of other nutrients. It does not add cholestrol to your diet, which is an added plus. It is also almost sodium free. Gluten also provides a small amount of calcium. So, basically, gluten is  a powerhouse of important, healthy nutrients which are required by the body.
Foods that usually contain gluten, like wheat and barley, are important components of a diet. They help lower the risk of different diseases like heart diseases and diabetes. In fact, it has been recommended that half of the carbohydrates in a person’s diet should come from whole grains.
The Demonization of Gluten
In recent years, gluten has been promoted as something you should stay away from. This is what gave rise to the gluten free diet. A lot of health bloggers, celebrity chefs, celebrities, and nutritionists have wrote extensively about the dangers of having gluten in your diet. The problem with this type of demonization of foods is that it fails to acknowledge the fact that everyone has different bodies. Some people might show an adverse reaction to peanut, for instance, and others can eat jars of peanut bitter without showing the tiniest discomfort.
The Celiac Disease: Where It All Began
It is a genetic autoimmune disorder where the intake of gluten can cause damage in the small intestine. It affects around 1 in 100 people all over the world. A lot of people remain diagnosed, and they are at a risk for health complications.
When people with celiac disease eat gluten, the body responses by attacking the small intestine. Tis attack can damage villi, projections in small intestine that are responsible for nutrient absorption. If the villi is damaged, body cannot absorb nutrients from food. The only treatment for celiac disease is a gluten free diet. Most patients report quick healing when they give up on gluten, although intestinal healing may take some years. Celiac disease is hereditary, which means it runs in the family. People with first degree relationship with someone who suffers from celiac disease (parent, sibling, child) have 10% chances of developing it.
Celiac disease can have long term health affects if it remain undetected. It can cause iron deficiency, leading to anemia. It can also cause early onset of osteoporosis. It may also lead to lactose intolerance and gall bladder malfunction. It can also lead to nervous system disorders like ataxia, dementia, seizures, and neuropathy.
Self asses yourself for symptoms here or go to your doctor if you fear you may have the celaic disease. A simple blood test is what you need to get done to find out if you suffer from this disease.
Awareness about the celiac disease is aroused interest in the gluten free diet. It is connected to the rise of paleo diet, which advocates eating like we did in the stone ages. It is about going back to how people used to eat in ancient time. A lot of people have gone gluten free not because they have the celiac disease, but because they feel good about it. Others have noticed improvements in their own symptoms with the gluten free diet.
Benefits of Going Gluten Free
Although gluten free diet was originally designed for people with celiac disease, a lot of other people are also adopting it. Here are some benefits of this diet:
Anti Oxidants and Vitamins
Antioxidants inhibit oxidation. They delay cell damage. They have  alot of benefits, and can be used to prevent diseases. Antioxidants protect your body fro free radicals, which are harmful molecules. They also have a lot of anti-aging and beauty benefits. Anti oxidants are found in fruits in vegetables. If your diet has a lot of processed foods, chances are you are not having enough fruits and vegetables. Even if you are having cooked vegetables, there vitamins count will be low than their uncooked, raw counterparts. This is because cooking for a long time deplete the nutrients in vegetables. That is why it is always advised to either eat your veggies raw, or steam them lightly. If you go gluten free, you wont get the full feeling you get with grains. You will then reach for snacks like fruits and vegetables. This will keep your body well supplied with antioxidants and vegetables.
fruits and vegetables are rich in antioxidants that have a plenty of health benefits

Weight Lose
Seems like half of the world is trying to lose the weight. Sorry, my bad, seems like 90% people in the world are trying to lose weight. With conventional foods like pizza, pasta, roti, naan, oatmeal, breads etc, it becomes difficult to lose weight. If you go gluten free, however, you will be cutting these out of your diet. This will also automatically lead to lower consumption of the complimentary food items like cheese, meats, spreads, jams etc. This way you will be cutting out fatty starch from your diet. You will replace them with other option that will not lead to weight gain.
Easier Digestion
If you have digestive issues like upset stomach, gas, bloating, cramping etc, a gluten free diet will make it easier for you to digest food.
Increased Energy Levels
A gluten free diet will help your body absorb nutrient better. Also, the alternative foods like fresh vegetables and fruits that you will be having instead will pump up your body’s energy levels.
Help with irritable bowl syndrome
Help with arthritis
Improved awareness of food

Planning to go on a gluten free diet because you fear you have the celiac disease, or for some other health reasons? Here are some tips to help you get by!
Read Food Labels During Grocery Shopping
Packaged foods in UK and USA are required by law to mention allergens, even if a little bit has been used. Most of the times these ingredients are highlighted in bold. The allergen labeling will help you know whether or not that food item is gluten fee. So, when you are out shopping, make sure you check food labels.
Watch out for labeling and ingredients while grocery shopping
Use Gluten Free Substitutes
Should you give up on pastas and breads just because you have gone gluten free? No way! Choose gluten free alternatives. These can be found in supermarkets or health food stores.
Eat Naturally Gluten Free Foods
Some foods are naturally gluten free. List includes fruits, vegetables, meat, poultry, fish, cheese, and eggs.
Opt for Gluten Free Grains, Flours and Starches
Not all grains contain gluten. You can still have amaranth, brown rice, wild rice, white rice, millet, pea flour, potato flour, quinoa, cornstarch, corn, coconut flour, buckwheat, almond meal flour, soy flour and teff.
Go To Restaurants That Serve Gluten Free Meals
Going gluten free doesnt mean you have to sulk at home while your family is dining out. Search for places that offer gluten free foods. Do not restrict your social activities because of this diet.
Cross Contamination Is a Real Risk
Be mindful of your pots, pans, spatulas, spoons etc. Even a tiny bit of gluten can be harmful if you have the celiac disease. Dont take a risk. Be careful and vigilant. Inform others around you too so that they will also be careful. Store your food away from all the gluten free. Buy separate bags and cases for storage
Be Careful With Sauces
A lot of sauces, gravies, and stocks also contain gluten. Do read labels before helping yourself with a serving. Make your own sauces. Recipes can easily be found online. Use alternatives like cornstarch to thicken them up.
Experiment
Experiment with recipes. Come up with your own master pieces. This will make eating fun and you wont feel that your diet is restrictive.

Criticism Of Gluten Free Diet
Gluten free diet was originally introduced for people in need for it i.e. those suffering from celiac disease. As awareness regarding celiac disease increase, more people adopted this diet. Nutritionists say that a gluten free diet can be unhealthy. Someone who isn’t suffering from the cliac disease does not actually need a gluten free diet. In fact this diet can cost them!
Whole grains are a good source of fiber, vitamins, and minerals. Gluten free products are low in nutrients. If you adopt this diet, you will be depriving your body of a lot of vital nutrients. This diet can be free in fiber, iron, folate, niacin, thiamine, calcium, vitamin, phosphorus, b12, and zinc. All of these nutrients are needed by the body.
A lot of people receive instant gratification from a gluten free diet because they load up on fruits and veggies. Fruits and vegetables are bound to make you feel better. You cannot attribute the feel good factor to eliminating gluten from diet.
You should only go for this diet if you have celiac disease or if you are allergic to wheat or any other gluten food. Going for this diet just because it sounds cool is a very ignorant decision.
In fact, a recent research has found that gluten free diet may in fact increase your chances of developing type two diabetes. People who eat eat gluten are 13 percent less likely to develop diabetes. People who eat gluten eat more fibre, which helps to lower diabetes risk.
This fad diet has also helped to create a new industry that creates gluten free products. This has also caused the price of gluten free diet to go up, making it difficult for people who genuinely cannot have food with gluten.
What are your thoughts on this diet? Is it a fad or good? Have you tried it? Let us know below!

[:nl]De Show Your PC Build facebook groep is een community voor Nederlandstalige computer makers.
Strakke cablemanagement in vele builds, iets lossere in anderen.

Ricardo’s dagrapport: Hier[:en]The Show Your PC Build Facebook group is a community for Dutch computer Makers. Within this community, anyone can show his/her build, whether it’s an extreme Mod, or a “simple” thrown together computer. As soon as you show your build you will get comments, but not the sorts of comments you usually get to see on Facebook these days, the sort of comments which make you afraid of ever showing anything ever again.. In this community the type of comments is mostly positive, people truly tend to make an effort to make everyone feel welcome and actually is able to learn from eachother. If you combine a Group such as this with a company such as CoolerMaster, you can be sure to expect some nice things to come along. Many of you will no doubt think about a small give-away, or maybe even a few give-aways.. But CoolerMaster had a different thing in mind. This article is about the gift CoolerMaster gave to this group.

My day started out quite drowsy, had a hell of a week at work, little to no sleep at all, and lots of chaotic train commutes. So when I heard my alarm go off, I actually had a feeling like: “I’ll go an hour later..” Luckily I had an appointment at a certain time and I stick to my agreements, so I couldn’t just go back to sleep. I snuck out of the house around 7:30 AM to start my walk to the train station. The entire way there I kept praying to every God I could imagine (which is quite a lot) that there would not be any delays or maintenance on the tracks. Happily, my train would leave at the correct time and the “BroodZaak” (a food and drinks store at the station) was already openend for that first cup of delicious coffee. The coffee was finished quite fast, so I took my 2nd cup and went into the train to get to Breda where I was meeting Tom Goossens with whom I’d ride to CoolerMaster in Eindhoven. In the car with Tom we discussed quite a bit of fun stuff, but seeing as my brain was still turned off, I don’t remember almost any of it, sorry Tom…
After arriving at CoolerMaster we found Ricardo on the parking lot. He was already busy and had given his build a nice spot inside (that ugly BeQuiet case 😉 ) Pretty weird that my +1 got inside before me, but oh well.. Tom and I were met by this enthusiastic young little lady who frankly said was way too awake for this early in the morning. After ticking our names off on the list and signed in as present we were allowed to enter the hall. The day would play itself out in the Warehouse of the CoolerMaster building where space was cordoned off by fences and security cams (courtesy of the Reality) Along the sides of the area long tables were placed on which the various builds could be placed. I did not want to look too eager and run with my tongue hanging out to the first PC I could find. So I decided to make the rounds and say hi to anyone I might know. The first known face I saw, which isn’t easily missed, was Femke, as usual, she was being a busy bee with all sorts of stuff and had a group surrounding her who were watching and talking with her. This time I wasn’t overwhelmed at the mere sight of her so I could be a bit more myself and say hi, so I asked her to marry me. She did want a ring which would fit in with her already impressive ensemble and I had to have a nice chat with Tenzin first, but okay.. one step a day 🙂 On the other side of the circle (a circle of tables was set in the middle of the hall where the experts showed their thing) I also noticed a familiar face scurrying about. Even if he did not recognize me, I did recognize Richard, Designs By Richard (Richard Prins) a Dutch Modder who may not have been getting the exposure he deserves, but still has shown his skills as a Modder with a hefty sum of Mods and Projects. Today he was present with some nice Mods and he was mostly busy with live modding, though I did catch him playing a few games as well. Was an honor shaking his hand for the first time, even if I have known him for quite some time on Facebook.
After saying hello to everyone, I walked to the first build, stood there a little while, made some photo’s stepped to the next build and repeat.. In that manner, I’ve done most of the table. Until I noticed the actual true value of a day such as this.. The marvelous thing about a day such as this was the fact that CoolerMaster gave us the opportunity to meet in real life. If I had questions about something I would just have to tap on someone’s shoulder and they’d show and explain everything. So I started chatting with people quite soon after this insight, which made me meet a lot of the makers who thought and showed me things and gave me a different feel about a PC build on quite a few occasions. Of course, no-one recognized me, and no I wasn’t undercover.. This way I found some nice gems which on first glance were seemingly standard, but were still hiding some nice things. Tight cable management in lots of builds, little looser in others. But what surprised me the most was the amount of innovation in builds whose Maker you’ve never seen trying to get an audience, things of which even the well-known Modders would get a smile on their face. Just look at the photo’s at the bottom to see if you can find them 🙂
The day went by calmly, no chaos, no running, no unneeded fuss over being somewhere at a predetermined time of the day. Everyone walked around and talked with everyone, there were no clicks who stayed together all day long, and this, in my opinion, created an atmosphere in which everyone felt right at home. Jerry Driessen already had handed me a cup of coffee when we just arrived, and the rest of the day there was a fully stocked fridge with all sorts of cold drinks of which you could grab whatever you fancied. The bottles of water went particularly fast when it became warmer. During the day it got hot and bothered, but go figure with so many PC’s and so little ventilation in that hall, the only real ventilation came from a large roll up truck docking door which was opened all day long already.
There was one workshop at which I hung around for quite some time, namely the cable sleeving. Escorted throughout the entire process everyone could give sleeving a try, after a short introduction and explanation, we soon realised that sleeving isn’t quite as simple as it might seem at first, so there was quite some cussing and swearing when it didn’t go as smooth 🙂 If everyone could do it easily, then everyone would have nice looking cables, but not everyone has the patience to sleeve almost 100 meters in cables. 🙂

Just like at the previous event, the Keyboard meetup at CoolerMaster, this time Silly’s was brought in again to handle the catering. Not such a deluxe elaborate lunch of sandwiches and salads as last time, but plain and simple delicious fries and snacks! A mobile snackbar was parked in the parking lot which got rushed by a humongous pack of starving wolves. It all went a lot more orderly than I’m letting on here, but a story may have some sensation 🙂 The line was nice and neat, no pushing, no rushing, and everyone got fed till they were full. How they managed to do that I have no idea, but making fries and snacks for such a large hungry mob is not an easy feat. My compliments yet again Silly’s!!

During the second half of the day, it was time to let the various experts take the mic at the main stage. MsshNL (1 of the Tim’s) started off with a cooking demonstration.. Yup, Cooking, Maker Style! take some random ingredients, dump them in a bucket of liquid nitrogen and see what you can brew of it. The leek turned into glass-like rods which made a nice sound and effect when you smashed them on the ground, marshmallows turned into cold treats with a somewhat strange texture, the hotdogs turned into.. I don’t know cause he dropped those in and couldn’t get them out again.. The detergent was transformed into something so very awesome, well that is if you can believe Tim and Tim’s expressions cause only they got to see it.. Was very fun, bit vague, but had some really good qualities of a stand-up comedy show. 🙂 After this MsshNL told us a bit about streaming, most important thing he added to it was that you have to do it for the fun of it, not for free stuff or money. There are quite a few similarities between Streaming and Writing, so I listened avidly to the things he had to say. Want to know more? check his stream and ask him! (find his links in the bottom)
After the explanation about streaming, one of the other experts took the stage and started talking about crypto mining. I stood and listened for a while, but after a short amount of time I found out that the subject simply couldn’t hold my attention, so I snuck out quietly to get a smoke.. This is my personal opinion, of which lots didn’t share it, seeing as when I got back there were still people who were listening with great attention, and various questions got fired at the expert.

During the entire passing of the day, Jerry gave away prizes to winners of quite amusing games, like holding up a CoolerMaster Cosmos case, assembling a mini-mini CoolerMaster computer system, but also, for instance, a Live rapid speed Budget Modding contest. This last one was quite fun to watch, imagine, going into your local budget market, buy various cheap decoration stuff, and then build a casemod out of it in 4 minutes.. Yup.. exactly.. From garlands to Led strips run by batteries, from spray paint to glitters all sorts of things were in that box and got used by 2 courageous people who did their best to make something nice out of it. Of course they didn’t miss the fact that the comedy value was counted higher than the appearance in this contest 😉
#gallery-0-49 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-49 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-0-49 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-49 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
The end of the day drew near and you kept hearing people whine and cry about tired feet and this was something I shared. I did miss some form of seating like a bench or stool here and there throughout the day, but the absence of these also made everyone walk around instead of rusting to a single spot. Before I went to say my goodbyes I went to purchase some items (a CoolerMaster cap, and a 140mm Master Fan Pro) at the store corner. Which was quite a nice looking store put way in the back out of the way, making it possible to purchase stuff without giving you the feeling that the entire day was directed at making CoolerMaster more money.. After saying Bye to Femke, no, she still didn’t say “I do”, I also said goodbye to Richard Prins and after an informative talk with Jerry we walked to the parking lot. There Tom, Ricardo and I had a little after chat before going on route home.
On the way home, Tom and I came across a Tesla with a license plate saying “Guy 1” which resulted in a high-speed chase to try and get a good photo of that car.. dang, they can really go.. At the Breda central station, I said my goodbyes to Tom and went onwards home by train. Was too tired to do anything when I got there, so all I did was upload the photos I made to Facebook. Was fun to see all the thank you’s and enthusiastic people on Facebook who regardless of just meeting each other al came together here again. I think this day has resulted in making this group a tad closer to each other..
Oh and P.s. that weird lady was there as well.. but now I really need to see that even weirder sister, so perhaps next time? 😀
