the night settled gently upon the land splaying over plains and hills and covering it all with comforting hum of cold. the air seemed calmer for lack of sharp sunlight that had before become synonymous with screams and sweat upon the body of an innocent. the angel was sitting alone.

he wasn't very angel-like per se, collapsed into himself, all sharp limbs tied together through anxious fingers for at least a semblance of control, for a smidge of grounding. yeshua was dead. as was foretold, after all. as he was supposed to ever since the first moment he set his foot upon the earth, and even long before. ineffable, really. that part of the ordeal perhaps did not shake him so much as having experienced firsthand the kind of air a heated crowd may create for an innocent man preaching about kindness and peace. the crowd which offered mercy to murderers rather than to one who loved every single one of them so much so he was willing to die. it was sacred human will of individuals that succumbed to their most animalistic tendencies in the face of the God's love of all things.

he shivered, though did not yet cry. he wasn't even sure yet he could do as much. though he supposed that before the night was over he would know for sure. a little while ago he'd lost éloa and now yeshua also. yeshua and with him his unwavering faith and love of humanity. it hurt really, it felt unnatural and odd, like a sickly volume only ever growing in size the more he thought about it. and the more it grew, the more he recalled yeshua, his palm upright in a gesture of apology. forgive them, they know now what they are doing.

a surprisingly bitter smile pulled upon emmanuel's lips as his gaze slid towards the sky. it glistened and he wondered if part of it was because of the tears already gathering in his eyes. any other night, he would lean on the stars for an answer. tonight he was lost and alone, and the stars in their distant beauty comforted him little more than the knowledge of yeshua's immortal soul where he may not touch it. he hugged his knees closer to his chest, closing his eyes as a gentle midnight breeze drove a small cloud of sand in his direction.
