Ravka. She’d recognize the air anywhere, which she missed most from her childhood. The scent of freshly plowed grass and apple blossoms. She opened her eyes, half expecting to be standing in front of her childhood home but smiled softly when she recognized the house she stood in front of. A large two-story house painted light blue with brown roofing and a well-used wooden porch. Large fields surrounded the residence, not another house within eyesight. The uneven stone path led to the porch steps Y/N stood on while she waited. Joyous screams and laughter echoed from the back of the house.
“There she is! Y/N!”
“Jesper!” She copied him and laughed as she walked down the steps with her arms open as Nina ran to her. “We’ve missed you guys so much!”
The group exchanged their warm greeting but were interrupted by the squeals from the backyard grew louder causing Y/N to chuckle. “The kids are out back, and from the sound of it, Kaz just joined them.”
Nina and Inej linked their arms through Y/N’s, walking on each of her sides while the other followed the three girls.
“Uhg,” the Heartrender groaned. “You’re an official mum now.”
“And Kaz is an official father,” the Inferni responded.
“That’s even stranger to think about.” Nina shuddered causing the woman beside her to roll her eyes.
“I’d like to state,” Inej spoke up. “I called it. I knew they’d settle down eventually.”
“And I knew they’d have kids one day.” Wylan chimed in.
Y/N smiled fondly as she remembered the day she and Kaz told their friends they were adopting their first child. Their beautiful baby girl. Someone would have thought the world was ending, given the Crow’s reactions. Matthias had nearly passed out while Nina stood speechless staring at the couple with wide eyes. Jesper yelled and jumped around, already claiming his role of ‘favorite uncle’ as Wylan hugged Y/N and smiled at Kaz. Inej had quickly followed Wylan in hugging Y/N and telling the somewhat recently married couple that they would be amazing parents.
The group of six continued their way to the backyard and caught the attention of the three Brekkers in the field. Y/N bent down with no control of her body and held her arms open for the children to run into. “My babies!” She placed kisses all over their small faces causing peels of squealing and giggles to fall from their lips, making her heart fill with a sense of love she’s only grown fonder of. She quickly diverted their attention to their aunties and uncles as she walked over to Kaz, placing a chaste kiss to his cheek once she reached his side.
“What are you thinking?” Y/N asked softly as she looked up at his side profile. He hummed and looked down at her without turning his head with a small smirk. “Nothing.”
She hummed in disbelief but left it be. “Go welcome our family to our home while I make dinner.” She let her fingers trace his sleeve for a short moment before she turned to walk up the back steps to the house. She closed the screen door behind her and walked into the kitchen, opening the large windows above the sink so she could hear and watch her family outside. She turned the tap on and let the warm water run over her hands.
If she would’ve told her younger self that this was the life she would get to live after everything she’d be put through, she would laugh at herself. Call her older self deranged and unstable. This was the life she dreamed about growing up in the Little Palace, but that was all it was to her, a fantasy. Never in her wildest dreams did she think she would ever get to live in the country side again with a husband and children. Children she gets to raise in a world that’s as safe as could be and give them the proper childhood that had been stolen from her. This is what they were fighting for all those years ago. A life like this. This life was supposed to be her end game.
The screen door swung open and shut twice, telling her she had company.
“Why’d you sneak off like that?”
Y/N chuckled, “I’m just going to make dinner for us.”
Inej made her way into the kitchen, following Nina. “We’ll help then, Wylan said he’ll come in a little bit.”
The inferni looked out the window to see said chemist and Jesper running around with the kids. She smiled to herself knowing he won’t be joining them in the kitchen.
~
“Anyone need more blankets?” Y/N called from the hallway with towels in her arms as she made her way through the two guest rooms. Wylan and Jesper in one while Nina and Matthias took the other. Inej was in the children’s room, having a sleep over with her niece while her nephew had taken the middle of his parent’s bed.
“I think we’re all good, thank you, Y/N/N.” Jesper wrapped an arm around her shoulders and rested his chin on her head, pulling a chuckle from her lips. “Alright,” she murmered. “Sleep tight then.”
She walked into her daughter’s room and smiled as she heard the hushed whispers being shared between the pair in the bedroom. “Get some sleep, missy.”
Her eldest groaned softly, “I’m just catching up with Aunty ‘nej. She’s telling me all her new stories.”
Y/N held her hands up in mock defense as she placed a kiss to her forehead. “Alright, but don’t stay up too late.” And she sent a smile to Inej on her way out of the room. A few more paces down the hallway and she finally made to to her own bedroom. The sight in front of her nearly made her heart burst. Kaz laid on his side of the bed with their son curled into his side with a children’s book resting on his chest.
Y/N grabbed her nightgown and walked to their attached wash room to get ready for the night. After washing her face, brushing her teeth and mentally checking that everything down stairs was turned off and put away she crawled into her side of the bed and slid under the covers. As she reached over to her nightstand to turn off the oil lamp, she felt a hand brush through her hair. She turned around and kissed his fingertips.
“Thank you.” His voice sounded like rough and gravel-like, like rock salt. It brought the warmest smile to his wife’s lips.
“For what?”
“For everything you’ve given us. It was nice to have everyone here today and it just… reminded me of where we were years ago.”
She hummed, “I wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for you, Brekker. You know that.”
“Well, Brekker, I wouldn’t be the man I am today without you. So let’s call it even.”
The boy tucked into his side muttered under his breath and turned to his mother’s side to cling to her. She placed a kiss on his head as she ran her hand through his hair. She reached her free hand to her husband’s and linked their pinkies. “Good night, my love.”
“Good night, darling.”

"are you really so oblivious?"
"what?" kaz looked up to see y/n smiling at him. "i'm not leaving just cause you tell me to... i thought you'd have picked up on that already." she pulled the chair with her to sit next to him, "if i see you need help 'cause you're overworking yourself then you can overwork both of us. and hopefully see how much is too much."
kaz smirked, "you're blackmailing me by making me overwork you if i overwork myself?" a nod. "i guess i've taught you too well."

"That's my wife."
pairing: kaz brekker x wife!reader
genre: fluff
el's thoughts: requested by @jahayla-parker i realized i had this written ages ago and never posted it so here you go hahaha
~*~
“Just a cup of water please.” Y/N sat at the bar in the Crow Club, observing all the people playing at the tables.
Jesper sitting with Wylan by his side, Nina and Matthias sat farther down at the bar talking with Inej. Her eyes scanned over the laughing faces until they met a familiar pair of dark brown eyes. She smirked into her glass as she saw Rotty come up to Kaz with a small piece of paper.
“What’s a pretty girl like you doing all by yourself?”
She wrinkled her nose at the strong scent of alcohol as she turned around to face a young man around her age. She tried her best to smile politely, “I’m just waiting for some friends.”
She wasn’t lying. Kaz told her to wait until one of the other crows were ready to walk back to the Slat.
“Well then, mind if I keep you company?”
Y/N racked her mind trying to think of some way to turn him down without making a scene. Footsteps and the clicking of a cane were heard behind her.
“I mind.” Kaz’s raspy voice spoke over her shoulder.
The young man stood up taller, “So what? You’re saying this girl is your girlfriend?”
By now, Jesper, Wylan, Nina, Matthias and Inej had slowly made their way over, standing behind Y/N. Kaz stepped forward and placed both hands on his cane, leaning ever-so-slightly towards the man.
“No. What I’m saying is that this girl is my wife.”
A small gasp was heard from both Nina and Inej. Y/N turned and looked at them shyly, “Surprise…?”
She turned back around to look at Kaz and the young man, only to see him making a beeline to the door. She looked up at Kaz as he stood right beside her, “Well, cat’s out of the bag now.”
He shrugged, “It’s about time they knew anyway.”
Jesper made silent hand gestures between the couple, “So you two have been married this whole time?!”
Y/N chuckled, “Not the whole time… Just about a year.”
He stood there, eyes flickering between the two as the rest of the crows tried to wrap their minds around the news.
“When were you gonna tell us?!”

Brave Enough
pairing: james potter x fem!reader
genre: kinda angsty
el's thoughts: this is part one! part two will be done soon (hopefully) :)
Tumblr media
The young girl’s screams echoed through the Potter’s back garden as James forced the training broomstick to go faster. The cold spring morning air whipped through their hair and past their faces causing Y/N to bury her head between his shoulder blades.
“James! You be careful with her!”
“Don’t worry, Mum! She’s just being dramatic as always.”
“I’m alright, Mrs. Potter! I promise!” Y/N called back after smacking the bespectacled boy in front of her. Her arms were wrapped tightly around his waist as they both sat on his brand-new broomstick– gifted to him by his father against his mother’s better judgment.
“Why can’t you just ride the extra one if you don’t want to go so fast?” He grumbled.
Y/N rolled her eyes, “I don’t know how to ride it, you idiot.”
“Then learn how to,” he pointed out.
“I don’t want to,” she huffed. “Anyway, that’s why I have you.”
James could feel her smiling brightly behind him as he chuckled. “Fair point I guess.”
The pair had been best friends since birth, given that their parents were all friends when they were at Hogwarts. The children had heard of all their fun stories and constantly looked forward to making memories as bright as their parent’s when they finally got their letters. They had a good few years before they turned eleven and each day felt like an eternity, but they always had their fair share of mischief and fun to pass the time.
~
Footsteps pounded up the steps of the Potter’s manor. Giggles fell from the eleven-year-old’s smiling lips as she pushed open the heavy wooden door with a bit of a struggle.
“I got my letter!” Y/N yelled into the house as she kicked off her shoes by the front door and slipped on the extra pair of slippers they kept for her. Euphemia’s laughter could be heard from the kitchen and the young girl quickly followed the sound. She ran into the kitchen and slid to a stop by the counter with a wide smile.
“Happy birthday, Darling!” Euphemia placed a kiss on the girl’s cheek. Fleamont Potter followed by placing a kiss on her head.
“Thank you,” she smiled. “I got my letter!”
“We know,” the youngest Potter laughed. “We could hear you from your house.”
Y/N rolled her eyes, “Well sorry for being excited.”
“No need to be sorry about anything, Y/N/N.” Fleamont chuckled.
Euphemia served both children slices of cake before she and her husband left them in the kitchen. James was quick to finish his slice and had started pestering Y/N for hers.
“Shove off, you had your slice.” She grumbled as she slid her plate away from him.
He sighed and laid his head on the counter, waiting for her to finish. “We’re going to Hogwarts.”
Y/N giggled excitedly, “I know! Isn’t it exciting?”
“We’ll be leaving home,” James muttered into his arm that he used as a pillow.
“Yeah…” she sighed. “But at least we’re going together. We’ll have each other!” She smiled brightly at him and moved her plate back in front of her, silently offering to share.
~
“You’ll never guess what happened today!” James nearly bellowed as he strutted through the common room door and made his way to the other marauders sitting on the sofa chairs and couch.
Y/N rolled her eyes and threw herself down next to Sirius. “Lily looked at him!” She sighed dramatically with a hand across her forehead. “Can you believe it?”
Remus and Sirius snickered while Peter said words of congratulations. James glared at the girl as he sat on the floor next to her legs. “That was my news to share.”
“Too bad,” she teased and stuck her tongue out at him.
The loud giggles of Y/N’s dormmates sounded from the door interrupted the guy’s conversation. Y/N was quick to jump to her feet, nearly kicking James in the side as she caught up with the girls. “Save me.”
“We heard that!” Sirius hollered back to her.
“Whatever!”
The girls walked up the staircase and filed into the dorm.
“Guess what I heard today?” Marlene asked as she tossed her bag to the floor beside her bed and walked to the bathroom.
Y/N picked up her bag and placed it on the blonde’s trunk. “What did you hear, Marls?”
“McLaggen has a massive crush on you and rumor has it that he’s planning on asking you out soon. My guess is within the next day or so.”
The y/h/c-haired girl choked on her breath. “McLaggen? Quidditch, future ministry worker McLaggen?”
Marlene shouted from the bathroom, “You’ve spent so much time with the boys you’ve gone stupid.”
“Oh, lay off her will you?” Lily spoke up with a chuckle. “It’s not her fault they were her only friends.”
Y/N rolled her eyes so hard she gave herself a small headache. “Shut up the both of you.”
“Right. Anyway, I just thought I’d tell you so you would be prepared.” Marlene strolled out, shaking out her blonde curls.
“Prepared,” Y/N nodded with a far-off expression. “Wait. This is the first time a guy has shown interest in me!”
The other girls laughed at their oblivious friend. “Oh, girl.”
“That’s far from the truth. But it’s the first time one has been brave enough to do anything about it.”
“Brave enough?” asked Y/N, surprised. “I’m that terrifying?”
“Not you,” Lily sighed. “James.”
“James!?”
~
Hogwarts hallways were always crowded between classes, so it was no surprise to Y/N that she could barely make her way through them to reach her next class. First-years ran between the taller students, and sixth-year students ran just the same. Y/N avoided every nudging shoulder while she flipped through her Defence notes as she walked to her Divination class.
“Y/N!” A voice shouted over the chatter in the hallway. “Hey, wait up!”
She froze in her steps and looked around to spot the source of the voice. McLaggen waved his hand in the air to grab her attention as he shoved his way towards her.
“Hi, McLaggen.” Y/N smiled politely.
“Hey, how are you?” His bright smile made her cheeks hurt just watching him.
“I’ve been good-”
He cut her off, nodding. “I wanted to ask you if you wanted to go to Hogsmeade with me this weekend?”
“Oh,” her eyes widened at his forthright question. “Um, I would love-”
“McLaggen!”
The boy’s face drained of all his color so quickly, that Y/N would have found it humorous if she hadn’t recognized the voice behind her.
“Actually, I think I have plans. Sorry! Maybe some other time!” His words were rushed as he quickly turned around and rushed down the opposite end of the corridor.
‘So much for being brave enough to do something about it.’ She spun on her heel within seconds and strutted over to the group of three who parted the sea of students as they walked.
“You!” She jabbed her finger hard against James’ chest once she reached him. “You obnoxious, annoying, bothersome, appalling, troublesome, dreadful boy.”
“That’s a lot of words,” James muttered to Sirius and Remus who stood beside him.
“Not nearly enough to describe you and how I feel at this very second.” If looks could kill, James would be six feet under where he stood. “Just who do you think you are?”
“Euphemia and Fleamont's son?”
“Your mother would be ashamed of you right now.” Y/N raised her hand to slap his shoulder. “And your father raised you better than this.”
James caught her wrist before she could hit him again. “Woah woah. Hold up, firecracker. What are you talking about?”
She quickly raised her other hand and slapped him anyway. “I’m talking about you scaring off people who have an interest in me!”
The brunette shot a glance of pure horror to Sirius, to which he only responded with a shrug. Remus rolled his eyes and sighed, “You had this one coming, mate. I told you not to do it.”
Y/N turned on the tallest marauders and glared. “You knew he was doing it and did nothing to stop him?”
“I-”
Sirius quickly cut him off in a weak attempt to save at least one of his friends. “We have class, so sorry, darling. And don’t forget, it’s James who’s been friends with you much longer than we have. Okay, bye now!” He reached for Remus’ hand and pulled him into a sprint away from the furious girl.
“Traitors,” muttered James.
The halls started to clear as classes went back into session. However, Y/N couldn’t bring herself to care about being tardy to her Charms lesson at the moment. Her anger cleared but settled into a tearful heartache.
James panicked at the sight of her teary eyes. “Y/N/N…”
“James, why?” she asked with a sniffle.
“I just didn’t want to see you get hurt.”
“But you can’t protect me from that. I want to go on a date and I want to be sought after like the other girls. I want to ask a guy out to Hogsmeade and not be turned down.”
“But Y/N-” James started but was quickly shut down.
“No James. You have chased after Lily every day for the last four years! How is it fair that you get to chase after my friend while I sit back and watch? The only guy I’ve ever hoped would show interest in me, only to watch him go after one of my best friends. Then I find out that you scare off everyone else.” A few tears had fallen from her eyelashes at this point. “How is that fair, James?”
He stared at her with wide eyes. “The guy you hoped would show interest?”
Y/N’s heart dropped to her stomach. “No… James, don’t do that to me.”
She groaned loudly. “That’s what you pay attention to?”
“Well, the girl I’ve had a crush on for years just admitted she feels the same!”
“Y/N…”
“You don’t get the right. That’s just mean.” Her voice was so small and she felt so vulnerable. Before James could say another word she cleared her throat. “I’m late for class.” She walked away from him slowly, as if in a daze. She could feel her heart crack in her chest as she walked away. She knew that there were a million better ways she could’ve handled the situation, but now she had to deal with the cards she played.
This wasn’t the end of the conversation, but she just needed a bit of time. Some time to breathe and straighten out her thoughts. She just needed some time.

Sobachka
pairing: nikolai lantsov x reader
genre: fluff
el's thoughts: just some cute fluff really nothing too it haha no real plot with this one and the gif has nothing to do with this... i just like it bahahaha
Tumblr media
The heels on her boots clicked as Y/N walked through the halls and rounded the corner. Alina, Mal, Genya, Zoya, Tolya, Tamar, and Nikolai all turned to face her as she walked in. “Don’t mind me, sorry. Please continue.” She found her seat next to Nikolai and quickly caught onto what was being discussed.
“I’ve missed you.”
Y/N felt the corners of her lips curl into a small smile, “I saw you this morning.” His hand rested on her thigh making her throw him a stern glace and move his hand. “Pay attention, sobachka.” She noticed his cheeks turn a light pink at her words causing her to smile a bit wider and Genya next to her to snicker into her hand.
After the meeting, Y/N and Nikolai walked down to the infirmary to make their rounds.
“Sobachka.” He scoffed making her laugh loudly. “What? How is it wrong? And it’s not like you haven’t been called it before.” She didn’t have to look at him to know he rolled his eyes, “Yes, by my mother or the elders. Literally anyone much older than me.”
“Genya calls you that sometimes.”
“Well… Yes, but that’s Genya.”
“So I can’t call you by that name but she can?”
He sighed, “You can call me whatever you’d like, Darling.” He gave her a smirk and dodged her hand as she raised it to slap his arm.
“What am I supposed to call you then? Nikolai is so… boring and I would like to have a cute nickname for you.”
“So nice that you find my name boring. You call me, your love. No one else calls me their love.” He wrapped an arm around her shoulders, bringing her closer to his side to kiss her head.
She scoffed, “Well I sure hope so!” She gave him a faux side-eye. “And it’s not that I find your name boring. You know I love your name, Nik. Just, everyone calls you that and I want to call you something else. Something special. Am I making any sense?”
He nodded and chuckled, “Yes I understand, but know that anything you call me is already ten times more special just because it came from your lips.”
Y/N felt her cheeks heat up, “You’re a flirt, you know that.”
“For you and you alone, Darling.”

"Do they end up together?"
pairing: remus lupin x fem!reader
genre: fluff
el's thoughts: it's a bit rough but super cute!! it's been wayyyyy too long since i've written for him haha
Tumblr media
The sound of rain echoed through the windows into the Gryffindor common room while the warmth from the fire fought off the cold draft. Y/N lay on the couch in front of the bright flames with her blanket tossed over her outstretched legs, her mug of tea had long gone cold sitting on the table beside her.
“Whatcha reading there, Dove?”
Y/N jumped in her seat and stuffed the book behind the pillows on the couch. “Nothing,” she smiled up at the tall boy as he walked to stand in front of the fireplace. “Nothing.”
Remus eyed her suspiciously with a smirk and hummed. He threw himself on the couch beside her, moving his body to lay his head on her lap. He snatched the book from behind the pillows at his side and held it out of her reach. He chuckled when he saw the title, “It only took you how long?”
Y/N threw her head back and groaned while trying to shove him away from her. “I know I knooow, Rem. It really is a good book.” She could feel him roll his eyes. “Okay fine, you were right. You were right all along. Happy?” She looked back down at him only to find him already watching her.
He said nothing but smiled before he sat up and lifted her feet to place on his lap. “Very. Now, what part are you at?”
Y/N started explaining the scene, describing her favorite characters. Remus watched with a fond smile. “Who’s your favorite character?” she asked him when she finished her rant.
She stared at Remus, dazed while she listened to him talk about his favorite characters and explain why all the while carefully avoiding spoilers for her.
Her best friend since their first year and the only other sane person in their tight group of friends. Her fellow lover-of-books. Her confidant and shoulder to lean on. There isn’t a single problem she had had that Remus didn’t already know about. It would be a safe bet to assume that he knew more about her than she did.
“I guess in summary I really like her as a character ‘cause she reminds me of you.” He grinned up at her smugly.
“You cheeky bastard,” she muttered, trying to hide the blush crawling its way up her neck.
“Only for you, Dove.”
His eyes bore into hers, bearing nothing but his playful and teasing nature. The warm glow of the slowly dying fire reflected in his chocolate eyes. Y/N knew she had to look away soon, she’d been staring for a few seconds too long now and time only continued to make its way by, but she couldn’t bring herself to look away.
Remus slowly leaned closer to her, moving his hand to rest by her side to support his weight.
“Does she actually remind you of me?” Y/N asked almost breathlessly, referring back to his favorite character.
“I wouldn’t say so if the truth was otherwise,” he whispered back.
She leaned closer to him and time seemed to lay still, the background noises of the few students still awake instantly became muffled in her ears. The fire’s warmth seemed to grow tenfold as she felt her face heat up. “Tell me, do they end up together?”
She was mesmerized as his lips curled into a smirk. “Who are we talking about now? You’re gonna have to clarify.”
“Oh shut up.” Her hands came up to hold both sides of his face as she finally brought her lips to his. The kiss was soft like they were testing the waters, but when neither of them pulled away Remus placed his hand on his waist and pulled her closer. Their lips fit together like a puzzle.
Y/N hummed and moved her hands to the nape of his neck to pull gently at his baby hairs.
“Finally!”
The pair jumped apart as if they were burned by each other’s touch. They turned to see James, Sirius, and Lily standing there with wide smiles and proud smirks.
“I’d say it’s about time,” Lily laughed.
Y/N groaned and buried her head in the cushions. “Lily…” she dragged out her friend's name purely out of embarrassment.
Remus chuckled, “I’d have to agree with you, Lils.”

Enchanted
pairing: kaz brekker x fem!reader
genre: fluff
el's thoughts: the first fic from the speak now event! requested by @wonderland2425 i hope you enjoy it! y/n is nikolai's sister in this story, but no physical traits are described
Tumblr media
“Princess!”
Y/N turned around to see some old family… friends, as her mother would call them.
“Oh my! How grown you’ve become.” The older man smiled and reached for her hand as his wife stood beside him with a tired smile.
“Yes,” she chuckled. “It has been a few years since I’ve been to a gathering like this. And I have to say, what a momentous occasion it is.” She looked down the hall desperately searching for someone to use as an escape. She saw two palace guards talking to each other and smiled. “I’ll have to excuse myself. I think my escorts are here.” She dipped her head into a bow of respect.
Placing her hands on the top layer of her deep purple dress, she walked away from the couple. She adjusted the off-the-shoulder neckline, her fingers running over the rhinestones around her shoulders. Once she was close enough she heard the female guard clear her throat as they both turned to face her.
“Your Highness.”
Y/N smiled kindly at the bronze-skinned girl and turned to the taller man beside her. “Will you escort me to the main hall, please? I don’t think I can stand another conversation with these people.” She chuckled to fill the moment of silence before he nodded and walked beside her.
She felt a bit uneasy as she let him lead the way. She made an effort to know every guard from her home yet these two had managed to slip past her notice. “Are you new?”
“Why would you ask that?” His voice was rough like rock salt as if he was getting over a sore throat.
“It’s just that, I typically know all of our staff back at the castle… I didn’t mean any offense.”
The guard nodded stiffly and turned the corner, walking into the main hall. He stood still, waiting for her to walk to the rest of the royal family but she continued to stay beside him.
Y/N felt his confusion and said, “I don’t feel like going in yet… Do you mind me waiting here?”
He looked down at her, his mind racing as if trying to solve a puzzle. “You’re the Princess, you shouldn’t be asking.”
“Well, I know, but you also have a job and you have orders from someone in a higher position. If you need to be somewhere else then you can leave.” Y/N smiled kindly.
It was as if her smile never left her face and her thoughtfulness was what she expected people to receive from her.
The hall fell into a hushed mummer as Alina walked into the room. General Kirigan led her to the stage and introduced her. He pulled the shadows of the room tighter and stepped back to let Alina take center stage. She clasped her hands together and pulled them apart, a ball of light floating between them. She brought the light to one hand and separated it into two orbs. She continued to push them towards the center of the room so the light reflected off the chandelier.
The people in the hall gasped and were awed at the miracle before them. Alina made the light fade and everyone slowly fell to their knees before her. Y/N placed a hand over her heart and bowed her head in prayer to the Saints, but she didn’t get on her knees. She was still the princess and she was told ‘bow to no one’.
Kaz cleared his throat and forced his eyes back on Alina as she made her way to the back of the room. ‘The mission,’ he reminded himself, internally scolding himself for staring at the princess during the light show. Scolding himself for noticing the way the light reflected in her eyes and the jewels on her dress and around her neck. ‘The mission.’
Y/N looked up at him and saw a distant yet determined look in his eyes. “You must have other things to do.” She stepped forward and turned to face him. “I’ll let you get back to your work, but I extend my gratitude to you for waiting with me.” She spun on her heel and pulled her shoulders back as she walked forward to her mother’s side. She froze in her steps and turned back towards him. “I didn’t ask for your name,” she said once she stood in front of him again.
Kaz’s mind screamed at him not to tell her but he found himself at peace in her presence. “Kaz.” The flash of recognition in her eyes didn’t go unnoticed.
“Kaz,” she smiled. “That’s a nice name. I’ll make sure to keep an eye open for you back at the palace.”
The Bastard of the Barrel stood there in a royal guard’s uniform watching the princess walk away from him.
~
Kaz and Inej walked towards where Jesper stood, leaning against the stone statue.
“What happened, are you okay?” Jesper asked as he looked over Inej.
“She’s real, Jesper. She made the light sing.”
Kaz glared between the two. “We lost her.”
“Did we?” Jesper smirked.
“We don’t know where she is,” said Kaz.
“Don’t we?” The Zemini laughed, “Just ask.”
“Jesper…” Kaz’s tone was a warning.
“Just ask.”
The three crows climbed onto the carriage, Jesper taking the reins with Kaz beside him while Inej stood behind the pair.
“Just ask,” said Jesper again.
“Fine. Do we have a fix on where to target it?” asked Kaz.
Jesper smiled and shook his head, getting the horses into a trot.
Kaz sat silently beside Jesper staring blankly ahead. His mind went back to his encounter with the princess in between thinking of the sun summoner. He didn’t believe in love at first sight and he knew he never would, but his curiosity was piqued, to say the least. He wanted to know more about her and figure out why she was the way she was. Why she was so kind to a stranger in a familiar uniform?
“What are you thinking about?” Inej asked over his shoulder.
“Nothing.”
“C’mon, you can tell us,” chimed Jesper.
“I said nothing.”
The two crows knew better than to push him farther but also knew better than to believe it was nothing.
Inej had seen Kaz stare at the princess during and after the light show. She knew the princess confused him and he wanted to solve the puzzle. And she knew he’d put it aside till this job was done.
~
“Nikolai!”
“Y/N!”
The younger sibling wrapped her arms around her brother in a warm greeting. “I’ve missed you.”
“Just as I’ve missed you. How have you been?” The pair moved to sit down on the couch of Nikolai’s waiting room.
“I’ve been great. You’ll never believe who I met today.”
The prince laughed, “Who?”
“That Kaz Brekker of yours.” Y/N smiled widely at her brother’s disbelief. “Yes, I did. And for him being a gang leader, he had himself a very good set of manners. Though he didn’t talk much but I don’t blame him for that.”
Nikolai watched his sister with a knowing smile. He noticed the twinkle in her eye as she spoke about her latest encounter. “Was he handsome?”
“Oh, very handsome.” Y/N’s eyes widened as soon as the words slipped from her lips and gasped before covering her mouth with her hand.
The older of the two laughed, “I had a feeling. Just asking.”
“You had no right, Nik.”
“I had every right. You're my sister and I’m his employer… He just doesn’t know it yet.”
Y/N rolled her eyes, “Yes yes, I know. I’m going to bed now. Good night.” Nikolai smiled and wished her good night.
Once she reached her room she twirled around in her nightgown, smiling giddily to herself. She had never experienced a crush before and this new feeling fluttered through her chest excitedly. The unknown of it all was addicting and she loved it. Would she see him again? Is he still awake thinking of her just as she’s thinking of him? Did he have another girl back home waiting for him?
“Please don’t have somebody waiting on you.” She spoke aloud as if the Saints above will carry her message to him. Throwing herself back into her bed, she pulled the covers around her body. Her eyes grew heavy and a yawn slipped past her lips. She switched her light off and smiled into her pillow as her thoughts echoed his name. “I was enchanted to meet you.”

“Kaz wait up!” Tiny feet pattered through the fields of tall, dying grass of the season. “You’re too fast!”
Laughter spilled from the young boy’s lips as he kept running to the small lake. The young girl tried her best to catch up, while the pair was followed by the older Rietveld boy.
“Yeah, Kaz, you’re too fast!” Jordie called out as he kept his pace to match Y/N’s.
“You’re just too slow!” Kaz laughed as he reached the lake.
Y/N threw herself down next to him, gasping for air. “That wasn’t fair.” The boy said nothing but smiled brightly at her. She smiled back, watching the older boy with eyes that held him in such a high regard. The two year age gap felt like a mountain to her but she adored him with her whole heart. He was her bestest friend, the only one who sat with her in the school yard during lunch and the only one who stood up for her against bullies. The oldest of the Reitveld brothers had quickly picked up on the strong bond between the two and left them to have their fun.
They never would’ve guessed what life would have thrown at them, but one thing was for sure. That whatever it was, it wouldn’t get in the way of their friendship. As cheesy as it sounded, it stood the test of time.
~
“Y/N/N,” Kaz nodded to the girl who sat in the window seat of his room. She had curled in on herself with a book in hand with the window pushed open. “You’ll catch a cold, close the window.”
She rolled her eyes at him but smiled as her eyes continued to follow his movements. He reached into his dresser to pull out a new set of clothes, eyeing the extra shirt he left out for her on her chair opposite his by the desk. Everything would’ve passed off as a normal evening for the two if only she didn’t notice that Kaz’s limp was heavier than normal and his shoulders were so tense he was almost hunching.
Y/N grabbed a spare sheet of paper and slipped it in between her book pages. “How was your day, Kaz?” A grunt was all she received in response causing her to roll her eyes. “Come on, Kaz. What’s got you in a knot?”
She could hear the rustling of his clothes from the bathroom and waited patiently for him to finish. She quickly slipped out of her clothes and into the spare shirt that was set out for her, letting it fall just above her knees as she walked to grab a pair of thick socks.
Kaz walked out of the bathroom in his black night clothes set, avoiding eye contact with Y/N as he made his way over to his desk. He sifted through a few files and started to put them away in the desk drawer. Her y/e/c eyes scanned over him thoughtfully, trying to piece together what happened.
“What’s wrong, Kazzle?” she spoke quietly, adding her childhood nickname for him.
His shoulders tensed again. “Don’t call me that,” his voice was strained, it almost sounded pained.
Y/N moved to sit in her chair across from him. “You’re going to have to tell me what’s wrong eventually… You know that.”
She watched as he clenched and unclenched his jaw, his thoughts racing and flickering through his eyes.
“Do you ever wonder what our lives would be like if we still lived on the farm?”
The question caught her off guard for a moment before she understood what was wrong. “I do sometimes, but i don’t pay it much thought.”
Kaz hummed. “We would probably have a family and live on my parent’s farm. I would’ve put a ring on your finger a long time ago and I would’ve gotten your father’s blessing. We probably would have had a traditional wedding. Unless you didn’t want that, then we’d do whatever you wanted.”
“Kaz,” Y/N reached her hand out across the desk.
He placed his finger tips against hers. “I’m sorry I can’t give you that life. That I’ve forced you to live this out with me. You didn’t deserve any of that.”
“Hold on now. You didn’t force me into anything. I chose to live this life with you. I wasn’t going to lose you no matter what. You didn’t force me into this life, Kaz.”
He sighed as he finally made eye contact with her. “I’ve changed, that much is obvious, and with you staying beside me… You’ve had to change in order to adapt to me.”
“And I would do it all over again if it meant we are seated right here today. Sure everything was easier in our firefly catching days, running through the fields but look at us now. I happen to like us the way we are right now. Sure, we’re far from perfect and I know you think you’ve done terrible things. But remember, I did them too. Please don’t think that I need or want anything different from what you’ve given me or who you are. That insults me.”
Kaz squeezed her fingertips in her hand, and tried to hide the flush of his cheeks. His eyes spoke his gratitude more than his lips ever could. She smiled her bright never changing smile as they both came to terms with the situation. Sure life would be great if they were able to stay back home and had never stepped foot in Ketterdam. On the other hand, if they never came to Ketterdam they wouldn’t have their friends or all the life experience they’ve gained along the way. The couple may be in their early thirties but they felt like they were still growing up. And as long as they were by each other’s side they’d be innocent in the other’s eyes.

Jealous

el's thoughts: requested by @jahayla-parker. i hope you like itttt!! it may be a lil rough 'cause i'm climbing over my writers block, but here you go!!

Nikolai wasn’t a naturally jealous person. Okay, maybe he was but when it came to Y/N it was different. The feeling in his chest tightened and threatened to choke him. It was a feeling that he had grown accustomed to, but he had learned that if he zoned out for long enough the familiar ache faded into a subtle feeling settled in his chest. And the young king played this to his advantage as much as possible.
The music of the party was nothing but a light buzzing in Nikolai’s ears as he looked around the ballroom.  He was religiously avoiding the couple spinning around on the dance floor. ‘Why wouldn’t she have told me she was coming with a date?’ The ache in his chest returned almost as an instant response to his thoughts. To see her in the arms of another man sent a cold chill down his spine and his mind racing. ‘Hadn’t I been obvious with my intentions? How could she not know that I’ve been interested in her for years now?’
“Because you’ve never told her that you’ve fancied her for years now.”
Nikolai nearly jumped at Zoya’s voice beside him. “Did I say that out loud?”
“Yes,” she scoffed. “And you should be glad it was only me who heard and not anyone else.”
“Suppose I should be…” He trailed off with gritted teeth as the laughing couple caught his eye again.
“I should tell you that you wouldn’t be in this position if you would’ve talked to her.”
“Thank you for that observation, Zoya. Don’t you have someone else to go bother?”
Nikolai could feel her roll her eyes beside him but ignored her. Y/N placed her hand on her date's arm and leaned closer to him while he laughed. Anger and frustration with himself boiled in the pit of his stomach at the sight.
Zoya sighed to herself, feeling the smallest bit of pity for the young king. “You should walk around and socialize with your guests.”
“You’re right,” he sighed.
~
Y/N walked down the hall that led to Nikolai’s personal quarters, clad only in her night gown and robe. She slipped through the door without knocking or making her presence known. Nikolai was sat on one of the chairs by the fire place, his dress clothes long forgotten now replaced by his own silk night clothes.
“Didn’t see much of you tonight.”
Her voice caught him off guard but he composed himself quickly. “I’ll be honest, I’m surprised you noticed.”
She placed a dramatic hand over her heart as she fell into the seat beside him. “You wound me.”
Her actions pulled a small smile out of him but only for a minute before his face fell slack again. “How was your date?” His voice carried a bitterness that would’ve caught Y/N off guard had she not expected it.
“Well, I wouldn’t consider it a date, but it was good.”
“You seemed to be enjoying yourself plenty.”
“Yes, well I happen to miss my family and it was nice to be able to catch up with my older cousin.”
Nikolai coughed and tried to hide the heat crawling up his neck. “Cousin?”
“Yes, Nikolai, I invited my cousin tonight.”
“Oh…” Guilt slowly crept up on the king as he brought his gaze back to the fire.
“Why?” she asked with a smirk. “Were you jealous?”
He scoffed playfully, “Me? Jealous? Of you dancing with another man. Never.”
Y/N hummed with a chuckle. “Of course not.”
They sat in silence for a few moments before Nikolai spoke up again. “You are important to me. You know that right?”
She smiled softly at him, “Of course, Nik. You’re important to me too.”
He sighed and ran a hand down his face. “No, I mean…” He inhaled sharply and leaned forward, enough to reach across and hold her hands in his.
“I love you. Have for years now, and you must’ve been blind not to see it, but I’m sorry. For not telling you earlier. I’m sorry I get like this sometimes… Zoya said it’s really my fault I get jealous, and she’s right. I should’ve told you a long time ago.”
He looked up at her almost timidly and with hesitance but was only met with a proud smirk upon her lips.
“I knew.”
His eyes widened and he dropped her hands. “You knew this whole time?”
“Like you said, I’d have to have been blind not to see it.”
“Then… then why have you-”
Y/N laughed, “I’ll be honest, I like messing with you a bit. But I was also waiting for you to tell me yourself. You needed to pluck up the courage to tell me and I just kept giving you little nudges.”
Nikolai watched her with nothing but admiration in his eyes, “You’re sneaky.”
“But you love me.”
“I love you.”
“I love you too.”

In Passing
pairing: nikolai lantsov x reader
genre: fluff
el's thoughts: a little nikolai for ya ;) super short but fluffy!
Tumblr media
The clicking of heels echoed in the hallway along with the whispers of the two resident tailors. Y/N Y/L/N and Genya Safin, in their white and gold keftas, walked to the dining hall.
“Y/N?”
The pair stopped and turned around to see Prince Nikolai standing there with his hands clasped in front of him and a smile on his lips. “Nik!” Y/N rushed over and jumped into his expecting arms. Genya smiled to herself and continued the walk to the dining hall on her own, leaving the couple to have a moment alone.
“You’re back.” Y/N’s lips brushed against his neck causing him to chuckle. “I’m back.” He put her down and kissed her quickly when the sound of boots clicking down the other side of the hall was heard. He released her from his hold and stood beside her professionally making her look away and cover her mouth with her hand as she giggled. The couple walked side by side with a space between them as the guards passed by.
“How have your travels been?” Y/N’s voice was barely above a whisper. Nikolai brushed his hand against hers, “It was good, but I missed you terribly.” She looked up at him and smiled, “Good. You’re supposed to miss me.”
He laughed loudly, at ease once again as the guards rounded the corner ahead of them. “I always miss you, even if I’m gone for a few hours let alone days.” He pulled her into his side, “How has my mother been to you?”
Y/N shrugged, “Nothing out of the ordinary. Had to touch up her wrinkles last night in places no one wants to see.”
Nikolai winced causing Y/N to laugh. “But in all seriousness, I’ve been alright. Genya and I snuck out to the gardens a few nights ago, it was exhilarating.” He smiled down at her, proud she was able to find joy in the small moments even with the type of life she’s lived. He can only hope and strive to make her joyful every day of her life from now on.
She furrowed her eyebrows in question as to why he was just staring at her.
“You’re beautiful.” He tucked a piece of hair behind her ear, “Absolutely stunning.”
The pounding of footsteps was heard again, this time Toyla running up behind the couple. “C’mon loverboy. You got training to get to.”
Nikolai groaned, “He’s right.”
Y/N stood on her tiptoes and kiss his lips, “I’ll see you later then. Go on.”
He smiled and kissed her hair before he ran off behind Toyla. She laughed at his playfulness. Her boy-prince. Her love.

Electric Touch
pairing: fred weasley x fem!reader
genre: fluff fluff flufff
el's thoughts: so sorry i've been mia for a while... excuse the writing haha i'm trying to get back to my usual rythm.. part of my speak now event! requested by @harryslittlebitch
Tumblr media
“Just breathe, relax. It’ll be okay.” Y/N paced the living room floor while she waited for the ringing of the doorbell.
“Y/N, dear, won’t you sit?” Her mother chuckled at the sight of her daughter wringing her hands in worry.
“Mom, I can’t! I’m so nervous!” She spun on her heel, faced her mother and swung her arms in exasperation. “When have I ever been nervous with Fred? It’s Fred Weasley for Merlin’s sake.”
“You’re one thousand percent right, darling. It’s Fred, you have nothing to be worried about.”
The younger Y/L/N sat down and laid her head on her mother’s shoulder. “You’re right.”
The mother smiled and stroked her daughter’s hair, “And you look stunning, you’ll have him wrapped around your finger. As if you don’t already.”
Y/N laughed, “Thank you.”
Tonight was their first date. Well, first official date. The pair had been playing a long game of pining and the red-head finally confessed the night of their grand departure. Y/N had scoffed and slapped his arm playfully, calling him an idiot as she tried not to cry. She declared her reciprocation of his feelings and he had promised to take her on a date over the summer. And here she was. Waiting for Fred to pull up in his father’s car to take her on their first date.
Y/N’s head shot up, narrowly missing her mother’s. “What if- Merlin.” She ran a hand down her face. “What if he doesn’t like me any more? What if it just doesn’t work out? What do I do then? Mom, I’ve likeed him since second year! It would break my heart- no it would absolutely shatter me if it didn’t work.”
“My sweet girl, please stop worrying. You’ll grow gray hairs before he even arrives if you keep up at this rate.”
The y/h/c-haired girl shot the older woman a glare only recieving a chuckle.
“The two of you will be fine. Believe me please. Molly and I both think you’re perfect for each other, and we noticed that since before you went to Hogwarts. You’re excited and it’s making you nervous. A first date is exciting and I’m so incredibly happy for you! It was about time in my personal opinion.”
“Mom!” Y/N lowered her head to her hands.
“What? Do you disagree?” The older woman received no answer. “Exactly. Now you have another hour before he is supposed to arrive, come help me in the kitchen.”
~
Y/N heard a call roll up to the driveway and rushed to the door, swinging it open only to find her father getting out of his car. “Oh.”
“Good to see you too, darling.”
“Sorry dad.” She chuckled and walked to help her dad with his bags, kissing his cheek on the way. “It’s already 8 o’clock…”
Her father turned to face her, “What time did he say he would be here?”
“8 o’clock.”
“Well, give him a few minutes then.” He laughed and walked to the house, closing the door behind them.
She continued to pace the floor much to the amusement of her parents. Frozen in her steps, she saw headlights through the living room shutters and turned to the large clock on the wall. 8:05. She squealed and rushed to the front door, brushing her hands over her skirt and fixed her hair as she waited for him to knock on the door.
Knock knock.
Her body stuttered as her mind raced over what to do. She cupped her hands around her mouth and turned away from the door before shouting, “I’ll be right there!” She waited a few short moments before she opened the door, promptly ignoring her parent’s laughter.
“Hiya, Darling!”
“Hi!” She chuckled as he handed her flowers, “Thank you. Come inside while I put the flowers away.”
The red-head closed the door behind him and said his greetings to her parents, giving them each a hug. “Mr. Mrs. Y/L/N, thank you for letting me take her out tonight.”
Mr. Y/L/N smiled widely and patted the young man on the back. “Of course, Fred. You bring her back safe and sound though.”
“Yes, sir.”
Y/N hurried back to the hallway, “Okay, let’s go.”
The older couple watched fondly as their daughter went on her first date with the boy who she’s had a crush on for years.
“‘Bout time, don’t you think?” The slightly graying man said as he watched the car pull out of the driveway.
“My words exactly, My Love.” The woman kissed his cheek and leaned her head on his shoulder. “He’d be good for her.”
“He would be. Bring her ghost town of a life back to life, if I could say so.”
Mrs. Y/L/N slapped his arm playfully, “Don’t say such things about your daughter!”

She Kept Him Human
pairing: kaz brekker x fem!reader
genre: fluff
el's thoughts: requested by @jahayla-parker .. ahhhh 30ish mins and 700 words, not bad haha hopefully this got me out of my writers block and hopefully this is somewhat alright... given the fact that my brain is half dead right now and it's not edited- like at all :)
Tumblr media
Kaz tore his eyes away from the papers sprawled across his desk when he heard the heavy wooden door creak open. Familiarity settled in his chest as Y/N padded across the floor grabbing his blanket off his bed and curled into the window seat next to his desk. His eyes scanned over her figure taking in her appearance. Her hair was a mess, sticking up in all directions most likely from her tossing and turning. Her slightly red eyes and dark circles. She wrapped the blanket around herself tightly, bringing her knees up to her chest as she rested her head against the cold window. He watched the lights from the building reflect in her eyes as she scanned the city as if looking for a distraction.
No words were exchanged between the two as a comfortable silence settled around the pair. This wasn’t an uncommon occurrence and at this point, Kaz looked forward to the nights she made her way to his room. The reasons for her coming up always varied between being bored, not being able to fall asleep, or having nightmares. He was always able to tell given her mood and appearance. Tonight was nightmares. He knew eventually they would talk about it but he waited till she was ready. Till the vacant look faded from her eyes and she felt present again.
He finished signing a few papers and placed them aside, trying to draw his attention away from the girl beside him. Finally, a sigh slipped past her lips as she turned to face him, “Thank you.”
“Don’t thank me for nothing.” He watched her lips curl into a small, tired smile. “You know it’s not nothing to me.” He tilted his head to the side in a slight nod before he stood and moved to his washroom.
Y/N watched him slide his gloves off and run the tap water over his hands before splashing his face. He was quick to dry off and make his way back to his chair, leaving his gloves on his sink. His eyes met hers with patient expectation and that was her sign he was ready to listen.
“I miss them so much.” She spoke with her voice muffled behind her knees as she rested her face against her blanket-clad legs. He didn’t ask who she was talking about since most of her nightmares were the same thing. The death of her parents.
“I don’t know why I can’t get the images out of my mind…” She sighed, “Okay well it’s not a completely unreasonable thing, but it’s driving me mad, Kaz.” She looked at him, her eyes started to tear up, “I could’ve-”
“Don’t.” He cut her off before she could go down the familiar spiral. “We’ve been down that road and we both know it leads nowhere. Don’t start yourself on that. You couldn’t have done anything, Y/N.”
She inhaled sharply and blinked rapidly. To anyone else, his words would’ve come across harsh and insensitive, but to Y/N they were comforting and a reminder that she wasn’t alone. He knew her just as she knew him. He would be there for her in her weakest moments just as she was there for him. It was a mutual thing that had grown on them over time, it was them.
“I know, I know.” Her voice sounded heavy but Kaz could tell she was composed, letting go of those memories. Her mind wasn’t haunted anymore and was ready to fall back into a peaceful sleep. Silence filled the room once more as a yawn slipped through Y/N’s lips. “Can I…?” She pointed to his bed and he only nodded before turning back to his desk. She was quick to walk to his bed and curl up under the blanket, burying her nose into his pillow while inhaling deeply. A feeling of warmth spread through his chest as he watched her actions discreetly. Knowing the fact that she found comfort in him, he managed to convince himself that he might not be the monster he thought he was. At least not completely. Not with her around. She kept him human, and he was silently grateful.

In order to rise from its own ashes, a phoenix must first burn. That’s what Y/N reminded herself over and over again. It’s just a stage of life, it’ll get better and you’ll always come back stronger. She scoffed, “Some phoenix.” Aren’t the birds supposed to be powerful, elegant, and brave? Then why was she running away? Out of fear?
Yes.
~
Alina grunted when she tripped on a tree root and fell to her knee. “C’mon, darling, we have to keep going.” Y/N helped her up with a quiet sigh and quickly checked behind them to make sure they weren’t being followed. The sun summoner nodded and kept walking behind her mentor figure.
Alina was extremely grateful for the grisha who took her under her wing when she first arrived at the little palace. Teaching her the ways of grisha and helping her adjust any way she could. Saving her a seat at meals to spare her from the embarrassment of standing at the front, searching for a seat. Within the last few weeks Y/N became like an older sister, even if there was only a few years age gap between the two.
“We’re almost at the docs, then we’ll be out of here.”
The moment Y/N realized what the Darkling had planned for Alina she was planning her own escape. She knew she needed to get the sun summoner out of the little palace as fast as possible in order to stop the nightmare-ish horrors that were in store for their country.
The rustling of leaves were heard behind the pair causing them to stop and turn around, arms raised in defense. “Mal.” Alina’s voice came out in a breathless relief. She rushed forward and wrapped her arms around him at which Y/N turned around to give them their moment of reunion. After a few minutes and hushed whispers behind her, she cleared her throat “Okay, we really must get a move on now.”
~
“So you want to go after the stag instead of running away?” Y/N had a smirk on her face as she watched Alina wring her hands. “Yes?” “It’s either a solid yes or no, no maybe.” The younger girl took in a breath, “Yes. I want to go after the stag.” The y/e/c eyed girl smiled proudly, “Perfect.”
So the journey continues. Sunlight was spent hiking and the nights, huddled close to Alina to stay warm since fire was out of the option. Y/N could feel the need to use to power growing stronger and stronger, her hands got so warm she thought fire might start on accident. She needed just to let out a single spark to dampen the burning temptation. While following the couple walking ahead she let a single flame lick through her fingers, swirling around her wrist before diving back into her palm. Her smile was so bright and soft as Alina looked over her shoulder to check that she was still there.
Using their power makes a grisha stronger, and not being able to use it properly had taken a toll on the older girl, making the younger slightly guilty. Y/N had no reason to stick with them, she could leave and go find her own way if she wanted to… So why has she stayed? Alina furrowed her eyebrows, mentally searching for a reason that her mentor would stay.
“We’re almost there… It should be just around-” Mal cut himself off once the stag came into view. Y/N stared wide eyed, “Oh… It’s real.” She moved closer to Alina and Mal, waiting for them to take their aim, but right before the could fire, she noticed black whisps of smoke curling through the snow. She quickly let a small flame flicker through her fingers as she felt his presence creeping up behind them. “Alina-”
Everything happened in a blur, the stag was brought to the floor, Alina threw up a sun shield around herself, the stag and Mal. Y/N held her hands out infront of her her flames followed her arm movements like whips keeping the other grisha back. Black smoke circled her ankel keeping her firmly planted in her place, panic bubbled in her chest when she made eye contact with Ivan. Her eyes pleaded with him to which he only slightly shook his head. The last thing she saw was the Darkling standing over her with a look of pity, before her eyes closed on their own acord and her heart slowed to the point of unconsciousness.
~
“Heartrenders…” Y/N grumbled as she was finally able to move and control her body. She had started to wake up a while ago, first her mind then her toes up to her fingers, the tingling sensation crawling it’s way up till she was able to fully move. Her vision cleared slowly, the sunlight streaming into the tent through the waving flaps of the entrance.
Rising to her feet, she made her way to the tent entrance after gulping down a glass of water. One gaurd stood in front of her making her sigh silently. With a flick of her fingers a singular flame danced across the dirt floor to a pile of straw and some explosive crates. A high pitched yelp left the guard’s lips as he ran over desperately pulling the crates away from the growing fire. With a smug smile, Y/N slipped on a first army coat and stumbled a bit as she made her way to the crowds of people.
Alina Starkov came into sight as the inferni quickly mimicked everyone’s hands over her own chest. The sandskiff. Y/N’s eyes darted around as she thought of a way to get herself on that vessel.
“I still can’t believe the age on this.” Y/N’s attention snapped to the voice belonging to a tall zeminni man. “There is no way they’ll believe this.” “Sure they will. Now keep quiet.” A suli girl and kerch followed the taller of the trio closely. She watched as they slipped into line soundlessly, seemingly belonging to the crowd if only she hadn’t overheard their conversation.
sneak peak at part two:
“Who are you?”
Y/N rolled her eyes, “Y/N L/N, inferni. Lieutenent General of the second army. Well, ex-lieutenent, I now assume.” A gasp slipped from the person behind her and she was instantly released from their hold. The suli girl for before step around her and moved to stand beside the other two. The trio looked like a rough patch group of criminals. Ketterdam. She could only assume that’s where they’re from. “Now it’s only polite to tell me who you are given I just told you who I am. Very willingly, mind you, I could’ve easily set a controlled fire loose.”
“Jesper Fahey,” said the tallest of the group.
“Inej Ghafa.”
“Brekker.” His rich coffee brown eyes bore into her’s as if trying to read her soul. The dark lighting casted shadows over his sharp facial features. “Kaz Brekker.” His voice held much reluctance as he spoke his name.
“And I’m safe to assume you’re all criminals. Now that leaves me with one last question…” She spun on her heel and walked around, throwing glances over her shoulder every so often, inspecting the room. “What business do you have on this skiff?”

My Moon and Stars

Nikolai!” Y/N called as she lifted the skirts of her dress and hurried through the tunnels of their underground hideout. “Have you seen Nikolai?” She turned to different grisha as she passed them. No one had given her the answer she desperately needed to hear.
She was separated from him during all the chaos caused by the Darkling’s shadow monsters. Her dress now in shreds from when she stood to the side rushing everyone else ahead of her.
Her heart was racing while her feet ached and forced her to slow to a stop. She leaned against the dirt wall trying to hold back her tears and the choked sob that crawled its way up her throat. “Nikolai.” She craved to be in the comforting hold of her husband’s arms. The arms that she had found solace in over the years of their marriage. He was always kind to her and built a relationship with her based on friendship. Over time she had fallen for the prince and truly grew to love him.
“She um-” Y/N could hear her father clear his throat, “She should be here any minute now. My most sincere apology for making you wait.”
“It’s no matter really.” An unrecognizable voice spoke up before silence settled into the room, the only sounds being her parent’s harsh whispers.
Y/N quickly hid herself behind one of the stone pillars lining the large hallway. The two wooden doors slid open and the clicking of heels were heard making their way into the hallway. The princess held her breath as she waited for the footsteps to finish their walk down the hall.
“And what do you think you’re doing out here?”
The y/h/c haired girl spun around and muffled her scream with her hand. Once she saw the voice was her mother’s lady-in-waiting she straightened out her light blue summer dress. “Oh well, I… I was just playing-”
“You’re too old to be playing anything now, don’t you think?” The older women tsked teasingly. “You have guests kept waiting in the Great chamber.”
Y/N grasped desperately for an excuse. “You can tell them I’ve come down with a terrible terrible cold.”
The graying woman smiled in pity at the girl before her. The girl whom she’d watch grow into the beautiful young lady whose father is now trying to give her hand in marriage. “You know I can’t do that.”
“It was worth a shot.” The princess sighed and foled her hands together in front of her as she walked to the doors of the Great chamber. She kept her voice low. “And here we go.”
The heavy wooden doors swung open and Y/N was met with the sight of her family and the Ravkan prince with his older brother and parents. She dipped into a shallow bow keeping her head down as she made her way to the empty seat beside her mother. “Please excuse my tardiness, your highness.”
Her father nodded, “Yes, please forgive her.”
The Ravkan prince waved his hand in dismissal. “Don’t fret, we are here for a few days afterall. We are in no rush.”
Y/N took the time to look over Nikolai’s features while he spoke with both of their fathers about arrangements. His blonde hair fell across his forehead gracefully, framing his face in such a way that made his facial features sharper. Not sharp enough to be threatening. No, his face still held a softness that she had only seen in children. He carried a youthful spirit with him.
The gray-haired queen that sat next to him smiled smugly at the princess when she noticed her staring at Nikolai.
Y/N looked down at her lap bashfully. Her lady-in-waiting placed a soft hand on her shoulder and rubbed her thumb against her skin in comfort. ‘It’ll be okay.’
“Y/N!” Tamar called for the princess. “Nikolai is here.”
Y/N’s head snapped up and she wiped under her eyes as she walked quickly down the tunnel and turned the corner. The familiar mop of blonde hair came into view and she felt a new wave of tears spring to her eyes. Her feet carried her faster until she crashed into his side, wrapping her arms around his waist tightly.
“You’re okay. Saints you’re okay.” Nikolai kissed her head repeatedly and ran his hand through her hair. “I thought…” He swallowed thickly instead of finishing his sentence.
“I thought I lost you.” Y/N murmured quietly into his shoulder, trying to suppress her tears. She felt Nikolai shake his head.
“You’re my moon and stars,” he kissed her head again. “My compass, my direction, my home.” He pulled back enough to look her in the eyes. “It’s all you. It’s always been you. I’ll always find my way back to you. Not even death could keep me away.”
“Don’t say that.” She closed her eyes. “Don’t speak of death right now. Please.”
“Okay, okay.” He brought her back into him and placed his lips on top of her head. “But remember that it’s true. You’re my moon and stars.”
They may have been arranged from the beginning, but their love had nothing to do with their parents. Their love had grown after moonlit walks and spring picnics in the gardens. Breakfast before a busy day and ranting about the day before bed. Traveling together and telling stories of their childhood. They both knew they’d have each other through this war, and that was all they needed.

You're Not My Husband
pairing: sirius black x potter!wife!reader (if that makes sense.... james' sister but also sirius' wife)
requested by: anon
Tumblr media
“I want my husband!” Y/N waved her arms around with barely any control. “Darling…” Sirius tried to push her back down to lay on the bed. “No! Don’t touch me! When my hu-husband comes back from… Wherever he went he’s going to kick your… Your…” A chuckle fell from Sirius’ lips, “My arse?”
“Yes!”
A loud laugh came from the doorway, “She’s going to die when she sees this video.” Both Y/N and Sirius turned and saw James, Lily and Remus in the doorway, Lily holding a muggle recording camera. James smiled at his sister, “Hey Y/N/N… How you holding up?” Y/N sighed dramatically, “Jamie, please tell this man to leave me alone! Tell him my husband is coming.” James held in his laugh as best as he could as he spoke, “Yeah mate, back off. Her husband is coming soon.”
Sirius threw his hands up in frustration as he walked past a snickering Lily and Remus. After a few moments he walked back in and smiled at his wife who laid in their bed with her eyes closed. Lily walked to Sirius’ side, “What kind of meds did they put her on?” He shrugged, “I have no idea… All I know is that they were really strong.”
Y/N opened her eyes at the sound of Sirius’ voice, “My husband!” Laughter filled the room and only left Y/N in confusion, “What?”
