Eldercare and Trump Worship
Tumblr media
We think a lot about how to turn people away from Trump, but there's one aspect of Trump's appeal to his oldest followers that's been overlooked. It's a truism of eldercare that anything that engages the interest of the elderly helps keep them alive and healthy. It doesn't matter if it's hobbies, community service, exercise, church, pets, or whatever, if they have something to look forward to they keep going longer. There's numerous studies to back this conclusion up. Well, like it or not, this fact has to apply to Trumpism as well. Their interest in Trump, devotion to Trump, is keeping them active and engaged. No matter how much harm it's doing our country and our world, on a personal level that commitment to Trump has to be improving the health and longevity of his senior citizen followers. Which means that even though his policies may hurt their friends, family, and themselves, they are going to fight for him as if their life depends on it, because on a strictly personal level their life DOES depend on it.
This subliminal awareness presents a huge obstacle in weaning senior citizens off Trump. Disengaging from Trumpism is disengaging from the thing that's keeping them going. Without it, from their perspective, what reason do they have to keep on living? That's a deadly question at their age.
It's not enough to just say that the world and their life would be a better place without Trump, we have to actively paint a vision of HOW the world and their life would be a better place without Trump. And then we have to actively SELL that vision. Until we offer them a vision of the America more lively, interesting and engaging to them than Trump's, they have a vested interest in not making the switch.
We've given America hope before. We must do it again.

A 10-person team of long-term care investigators in Ontario will now look into allegations of homes failing to protect their residents from abuse or neglect. Long-Term Care Minister Stan Cho made the announcement Monday, saying the new unit is supported with $72.3 million in funding. He says Ontario already has "the toughest inspection and enforcement program in Canada," and the new investigations team will help ensure residents have the best quality of care. The investigators will be able to look into allegations of failing to protect a resident from abuse or neglect, repeated and ongoing non-compliance, failing to comply with ministry inspector's orders, suppressing and/or falsifying mandatory reports and negligence of corporate directors.

One of the most horrifying things I've ever had to deal with while working in a care home, especially with residents suffering from some form of dementia, is when you walk into their room and they're at another point in time. They're sobbing, begging you to tell them where their mother is. They're pleading, crying the hardest you've ever seen them, and even after almost three years of being in this profession I still struggle to react appropriately. What are you supposed to say? There's no script for something like this and it breaks my heart every time. In truth, there's nothing you can say to help make it better.
I always spend some time by their bedside comforting them and offering some form of distraction. It doesn't always work, but I try to. I can't say or do anything to relieve their experiences, whatever they may be, and I definitely can't tell them where their mother is, but I can offer company. I try not to leave until they've cracked a smile or given an indication they're feeling better, no matter how busy I am. I don't always manage to cheer them up, but the majority of them thank me for my time.
After the long lives these people have led, five minutes of my busy day is the least I can give them.
And when that time is up, I go back on the floor and carry on. I have a job to do and I do it. If I need space to cry, I take it. If I feel sad, I let myself feel it. And when I clock out, I leave all my work related emotions at the front door. It's the only way to deal with it.

Please help us. My 86 year old aunt cries almost all day because she's so miserable at the nursing home, but we can't take care of her on our own. Spread the word so maybe someone who can afford to donate even a little can see this. I estimate it will cost $1500 per week just to have someone come for a few hours a day to take care of her basic needs. Please help.

Mon Anthony Era established the Antonio Foundation for Elderly People in memory of his father who passed away on August 28, 2021.
Mon deeply loves his father and does not want to forget him, so he named the foundation after him to keep his father's memory alive for himself and those who love him.
The purpose of this program is to provide financial assistance to the elderly. Many elderly individuals are neglected and in need of help, especially here in the Philippines.
Mon funds this program using his salary as a social media manager working for various companies in different countries. No one else or group assists him; he is solely responsible for funding it.
For Mon, it is crucial that we help to the best of our ability, and one doesn't need to be wealthy to make a difference.

New data shows that the number of people with dementia is rapidly growing in Ontario and doctors are urging the province to invest in home care now to meet their needs. There has been a 48 per cent increase in the number of patients with dementia in Ontario since 2010, according to a new analysis of Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) billing released by the Ontario Medical Association (OMA) on Thursday. The OMA represents more than 43,000 doctors. Dr. Andrew Park, president of the OMA, said resources need to be put in place to better support the province's aging population and people with dementia. "With an already strained health care system and fewer than 300 dementia care specialists across Canada, we are not prepared to meet their needs," Park said at a virtual news conference.

If anyone wants to help, we need it badly.
I am living with them and we lost over $4000, we need to gain it back in some way since the scammer took more then that. The money is for a new place and anything we need to move.

I wish more people knew how many elderly people die from falls because they feel too ashamed from living in a disability hostile world to use mobility aids. Your words and attitude around these things matter. Choose kindness so the future celebrates them instead of pushing them to choices that can result in death/injury.
