Something that confused when I first watched campaign 2 was how quickly Ikithon when from wanting Caleb to be his successor to outright trying to murder him.

But I think I figured it out! Ikithon on started actively trying to kill Caleb after the break in at the Sanatorium. I believe this is because, when Veth, Jester and Caleb broken, not only did they steal the necklaces, they also stole some of the residum crystals that were used on the Volstker. Caleb now has evidence to back up his abuse claims against him.

If Caleb has gone to the Colbalt Soul before gaining evidence I could 100 percent see Ikithon spinning Caleb's story into Caleb being a jealous and mentally ill man, who was just bitter, who killed someone in their escape. He would have used Astrid against him, showing her scar and how dangerous of an individual Caleb truly was.

But with evidence, with the crystals it becomes harder and harder to refute Caleb's story, it also went on to embolden Astrid and Edowulf to give their own accounts of the abuse they all faced.

Hot take but Caleb and the Nien should have just straight up killed Ikithon. Even if wasn't Caleb, it could have been Astrid or Edowulf.

And I get what they were going for:

'Revenge isn't always the answer'

'You'd be giving Ikithon what he wanted.'

Ect..ect

But that man deserved to die. No ifs. No buts. No coconuts!

I want more characters just killing their abusers, and less 'I'm better then you, so I won't kill you.'

caleb: you always were the better dancer, astrid

what the fandom thinks it means: astrid has taken dance lessons since she was five. she can waltz and tango and even do ballet like second nature. at every academy gala the three went to, eyes would always end up on her and her effortless grace in the ballroom. no one could possibly compare.

what it actually means: one time the three get drunk off their asses and decide to have a dance competition in edowulf’s dorm room. astrid and caleb flail around and clumsily waltz while edowulf “sings”. they trip over each other’s feet and laugh and make fun of each other. in the morning, astrid tells the boys that wulf had declared her the winner before he passed out on the floor. was she lying? probably. but it became a running joke to remind her that she was the best out of the three whenever they danced together.

so caleb has a much higher CHA than is necessary for a wizard, explained by the idea that he was trained to be able to turn on the charm/intimidate when necessary

concept: rather than astrid and eodwulf also being high CHA wizards, each has an an otherwise ‘useless’ stat that’s higher than it should be

eodwulf being high STR, or maybe CON is obvious given caleb’s description, maybe, or maybe he’s the high WIS of the trio, trained to perceive a situation quickly, read people accurately, and resist mind-controlling spells more easily?

astrid with high DEX? flip wizard? sneak wizard? high AC wizard??? multiclassed into monk for the unarmed combat bonus wizard?????? am i just really gay and want to see astrid and beau having a fistfight no shut up
