I haven't bothered with posts about the anime episodes because for the most part they've been like... fine to moderately amusing and there's not really anything to say beyond that. 2x06 Sound the Turnabout Melody (what a title) was uh not like that lmao so
started off strong with that terrible Wright & Co commercial. god bless you Maya.
ever since they introduced the concept of the friendship keychains I've been wondering if Larry still has his or if Larry is a normal person and the keychains are a consequence of Phoenix and Edgeworth specifically being Like That.
I thought s1 really tried to be like "a no homo trio of besties!!!" so I assumed it was likely Larry did. instead not even 3 years later Larry is like "lmao you still have that?" and Phoenix is both embarrassed and defensive which is much better and funnier than I expected from this show lmfao god bless
Larry discovering girls while Phoenix is STILL thinking about Miles and then deciding to dedicate songs on the radio to him fahfkdhlhkhglh .... incredible. showstopping
the dedication just kept going and going, too. i thought it would end with like, 'to signal red from signal blue' but it went on and on. i know she read page one of his ten page letter. didn't even mention the illustrated annexes of red and blue holding hands 😔
edgeworth thanking phoenix aloud and meanwhile phoenix sensing a disturbance in the force and turning around to look ... lmaoooooooo?!?!?... I mean even by the high bar set by their game canon I was pretty stunned
the flipside of all the crazy but believably IC baby narumitsu stuff was I found the Von Karma stuff all kind of weird and not particularly believable/IC
I appreciate the anime making it unambiguous that Edgeworth was raised by MVK, I feel like in the games there's a bit of vagueness for no real reason despite it being the most logical explanation for everything. so that was nice. but:
as hilariously cruel as it is to imagine MVK raising this kid for three years before turfing him to an orphanage, even applying 5d chess psychological torment logic I can't really make sense of that. why would he wait that long lol. why would he have taken miles in to begin with if not part of a long-term scheme.
baby franziska was cute as hell but i think she was too nice. i totally believe she'd be obsessed with her new little brother and want his attention/approval/etc. i ...don't really believe she's emotionally equipped to go about it so sweetly, lol.
miles' prosecutor vs defense ambition arc was convoluted to me, and an example where i feel like the games already gave us reason enough for the switch (the idea that greg's murderer got away + mvk's influence) without the anime now presenting something that makes less sense. (i'm still playing AAI but i sense i'll have similar criticisms of it, as in, "you're offering me a new explanation that makes less sense than the original". a common issue for prequel media.)
the cravat-giving scene felt like it was presented very earnestly despite being objectively kind of creepy given, you know, everything.
dog person miles edgeworth REAL
why'd they name that puppy napalm 😭😭😭😭
oh most importantly THE EPISODE TAG?? LMAO? edgeworth giving them the only like on their commercial why can't i find a clip or gifset of it the people need to know NEVERMIND @camalyng has bravely answered the call with a gifset

It's deeply intriguing to me how much Godot is bad at prosecuting when compared to every other main prosecutor.
He's the only prosecutor in the series who's ever let a criminal, Ron DeLite, walk free, and it's totally his fault. There are at least two instances in 3-2 and 3-3 where, instead of trying to pin Phoenix with evidence, he lets his conjecture fly and argues the logic of it, which anyone who's even heard of Phoenix knows is a losing battle. He's good at making arguments, but he falls shorts compared to prosecutors like, say, van Zieks. His only real troublesome trait is that he will not let Phoenix take shortcuts and forces him to lay out his full reasoning, whereas other prosecutors, namely Klavier, will catch on the defense's reasoning and will spell out the conclusion.
And at first, it's not shocking, because out of the gate, you know he's a rookie, and not a genius like Franziska or Edgeworth, whose first outing is a much more impressive.
However, we later learn that he's Diego Armando, an experienced defense attorney, and it doesn't make any sense. We saw him advise Mia, we heard him give advice that would inform Phoenix's tactics later on. He should be the perfect counter to him, much like how a certain defense-attorney-turned-prosecutor in another installment of the series actually is.
And then, you hit Bridge to Turnabout.
He's the killer. He knows everything that went down. It's more and more obvious as the case goes on that he knows more than he lets on. And yet, he continues to pressure Phoenix to crack the case, as usual. But this time, he's both more lenient and more unforgiving.
On one hand, he straight up gives hints to the defense. Every other time a prosecutor has done the same, it was in a clear team-up moment against a common enemy. This time, he's the culprit, so that's not what happens.
On the other hand, not only is it the case where he whips out the unlimited penalty, but he also cranks up the verbal abuse from "witty jabs" to "reason-you-suck speeches", is much more tough on which lines of reasoning you follow, and basically makes no prosecuting mistakes (I don't count the red-on-white stuff, man's disabled).
At first, I interpreted this as his guilty conscience pushing him to get caught, and while I still believe that, there's another, far more complex interpretation that makes him truly fascinating.
Godot admits at the end of the trial that Phoenix following in Mia's footsteps was both the brave and correct way to go about honoring her, unlike his desire for revenge, which he calls "running away from [his] grief". He also says he wanted to test Phoenix's mettle
So what if, deep down, he wanted to see Phoenix disprove his reductive vision of him, and subtly acted as a sink-or-swim type of mentor?
Now, don't get me wrong, I don't believe he purely had good intentions when he set out to do so, I think he was lashing out at an easy target and it made him forget his hurt for just a second. It's a textbook "vengeance feels empty" type story.
What I'm saying is, just like Edgeworth wanted to be guilty of his father's murder to be relieved of the weight of his grief despite his innocence and how Franziska thought she would be happy if she was as monstrous as her father and was devastated when she realized she wasn't, Godot thought becoming evil could free him from his suffering, but his best self, the person he could be if he faced his grief head on and grew to overcome it like Phoenix did, prevented him from losing himself in that villainy
Hey, it's almost like there's a thematic throughline with the OT's main prosecutors. Weird.

Ace Attorney, Steel Samuri AU
This is a re-telling of the AA story but with SI-FI elements based off Steel Samuri.
Since there isn't much Steel Samuri lore in AA, I'm going to have to make some up!
---
Long ago there was an old race of aliens, they don't really matter to the story but what does matter is the fact that they made the Samurai Suits. The Samurai Suits were left on earth for reasons and now new aliens are coming to feed of the power of the suits and earth by proxy. So, The Samuri have to rise to face these new threats, face hardships and accidently become celebrities.
Tumblr media
Poor Greggy, he gets zero hours of sleep and managed to acquire a little baby who is probably a little alien. Becoming one of the few people capable of defending earth was a terrible choice for his health. The Steel Samuri is world famous and so Gregory has to also deal with hiding his identity, Clark Kent but with 1000x more walking disaster energy.
---
Fast Forward to Mile’s middle school days, guess which kid finds a Samuri Suit? Well, he isn't the only one who finds a Suit! Meet the Five Signal Samuri!
Red, The Brains (Miles Edgeworth)
Orange, The Jokester (Larry Butz)
Blue, The Second in Command (Phoenix Wright)
Pink, The Heart (Maya Fay)
Purple, The Leader (Mia Fay)
They have no clue about each other identities, even the sisters but they are all very close friends! They go on wacky adventures together and learn valuable lessons with occasional help for the older Samurai.
Tumblr media
Oh dear, don't forget the Karma Samurai, he hates it when people don't give him attention. Can you guess who it is? (Manfred, we all know it’s Manfred)
Things go wrong when the Steel Samurai realizes that the Karma Samurai is faking monster attacks for fame. The Karma Samurai doesn’t want his secret told to the others so he attacks the Steel Samurai and loses, badly. The Steel Samurai thinks he killed the Karma Samurai and leaves, but shock Manfred is not dead. Karma heads back to Germany and licks his wounds and focuses on his lawyer career and child. Then Manfred meets Gregory, the defense attorney and feels a odd sense of DeJa'Vu.
Note, The Steel Samurai dose not tell the others what happened with the Karma Samurai because they are already traumatized enough and some of them really looked up to Karma.
Back in court Manfred gets the plenty commits DL-6.
While later he realizes that Gregory was the steel Samurai because of very specific scars listed in his autopsy report. Soon after Miles moves in with the Von Karmas he realizes Miles is the red signal Samurai because of the boys mannerisms and the fact that the red just showed up in Germany.
Tumblr media
Miles isn't having a good time, Manfred revels himself to be the Karma Samuri and lies that the Steel Samurai attacked him because he was too popular (Miles doesn't know his dad is/was the Steel Samurai). Also Manfred says he was crippled by the Steel Samurai, which he why he doesn't fight any more (Actually because of the DL-6 Bullet) So now Miles is being trained as a Samurai and Prosecutor. Franziska is also being trained to take up the Karma Samurai mantel one day, they go flying togther a lot.
Tumblr media
Nothing much changes in the Daliah/Early Ace Attorney area expect Mia is even more stressed because she still has to manage the Signal Samurai, minus the only other one with common sense. Oh and the Signal Samurai are now Earth's main protection since Karma and Steel disappeared.
Unfortunately Mia would still die since she didn't have her suit, but her chase would be much easier to solve since she knocked out most of Red White's teeth, and nearly broke his jaw form a single punch. Red White had surprise and a weapon is the main argument for why he could win but there is a strong argument that Mia should have survived.
At the end of Turnabout Goodbyes, after Manfred has all is lies exposed, he dawns his Karma Samurai suit on last time to try and tries to destroy the courthouse and probably the city. Unfortunately for him he transformed in front of ALL OF THE SIGNAL SAMURAI! Manfred doesn't stand a chance, especially with their teamwork being on point for the trial. After Manfred is dealt with the Signal Samurai have a moment to process all the identity reveals that just happened.
They are all upset, excited and shocked to find out the truth but resolve to make themselves a proper team again, even without Mia. Of course, after taking that picture, Mia reminds them that she is really gone.
That's all I got for now, feel free to ask me anything if you have questions. <3

bridge to the turnabout really is the culmination of everything that’s happened in the trilogy up to that point and has elements of things from each game and just. god i think it’s such a good case to end the trilogy on
first of all, and most obviously, you have all the stuff with phoenix and dahlia and iris. up until that case, he did not know he was dating dahlia’s twin sister, and it’s only revealed as the case goes on that she has a sister and he was actually dating iris the entire time. this is something from t&t, a callback to several earlier cases in this very game.
then you look at it from the fey perspective, and remember that in jfa we learn how it’s fairly common for branch family members to try and set up these plots to kill the future master. this is not the first time maya has been a target, and it goes back to morgan fey organizing it all with the help of dahlia, who is actually her daughter. pearl nearly gets roped into it too, but is stopped by misty fey making her reappearance after all these years.
but wait, that’s not everything with misty fey, because where have we seen her before? that’s right, DL-6. that case is involved too, from all the way back in aa1. misty fey was involved with that case and the channeling of gregory edgeworth before disappearing. the earthquake on the mountain that causes miles to have a panic attack is a direct reference to that incident.
and there’s still more!!! you get godot’s reasoning for being a dick to phoenix the entire series and find out it was because of mia, it all goes back to mia and her death in the second ever case and how much stuff from the series happens because she is dead. and then there’s larry, who sometimes seems like he’s just there for comedy relief, but actually plays a key role in a lot of cases throughout the games, and, despite how chaotic he can be, does care a lot about his friends.
the worldbuilding in these games is seriously so good, and the fact that they were able to so heavily interweave so much stuff together (especially the feys and DL-6) and have it still make sense and be cohesive in the end is so good and really pays off. it will always be one of my favorite cases for this reason, bc of how it really does feel like a culmination of everything we have learned about the aa universe up until that point

pls tell me more abt ur arospec ace attorney headcanons. my personal fav is lovequeer aro phoenix wright 4 loveless aro miles edgeworth.
Lovequeer Phoenix makes me SO happy!!! AND YESSSS LOVELESS ARO EDGEWORTH!!!!!! Aro4aro Narumitsu is hands down my absolute favorite flavor of the ship!! Oh my goodness!!! ARO4ARO SO TRUE!!!! Two aros absolutely demolishing amatonormativity with their level of trust and devotion to one another <33
Seeing this ask got me so excited to indulge because I'm aro so obviously I love projecting my community's, and my own, labels onto my favorite characters! But AA is something really special because there's very little canon romance which means lots of room for interpretation!!
(So a lot of my headcanons are a result of them just looking like the flags because the arospec community is full of beautifully colored flags I can't help but see everywhere)
Phoenix is recipro to me because any time he's shown romantic interest in someone it's pretty much always been when they hit on him first. Like the idea doesn't even cross his mind until then!! From what I've seen from recipro individuals this is a really common experience which is why it Makes Sense to me! I'm generally open to any and all arospec Phoenix headcanons because they just click with me (for obvious reasons, LOL)
For me, Iris is demiro because her whole story with Phoenix just screams it to me. She probably went in only hoping to get the necklace back from her sister's next victim and then she gets to know him as this kindhearted guy who would do anything for the people he loves and she falls HARD. I don't think they were "dating" the whole time which I'm pretty sure was confirmed by Iris herself but I honest to goodness believe they were lovey dovey in those last weeks or months leading up to Dahlia stepping in! I should also confess I'm a Feenris shipper, haha, so I'm biased on that front. Demiro Iris just means A Lot to me
Maya is aroace lesbian in that she thinks girls are really pretty!! And also in how she kept moving between the aroace and lesbian labels to the point she decided she'd label herself both. This one was mostly inspired by her going "omg that girl was so pretty" to just about every girl she meets which feels very, very sapphic LOL. I hc she's romance indifferent in the sense she doesn't mind dating but it's not something she actively seeks out! Though I think she'd love the meals that come with dinner dates- she's got food on the brain 24/7 after all (just like me for real)
Mia is pan angled aroace, more specifically greypansexual aro! Because she gives me romance repulsed aro vibes at first but her relationship with Diego (and possibly with Lana) would point to her being more romance ambivalent. Pansexual Mia is a headcanon I've had for a looooong time as far back as my first AA hc document while greysexual is a recent development. She's always been aro to me! Aro plant mom <3
Franziska is quiromantic to me. I mean, she's the palette of the platoniromantic flag! This headcanon only came about because of that 4koma comic where Phoenix makes Franziska flustered by telling her Maya's being strong for her because she sees Franziska as a dear friend. I just got the vibes. Also, the colors! I honestly don't think she'd see the appeal of romance with or without the feelings she can't distinguish. She enjoys her independence and I can't see her "settling down" in the slightest
Now, I've bounced around with where I think Edgeworth is on the aromantic spectrum. But I know damn well he belongs there! Lately I've considered Edgeworth being lithro gay, whether he loses feelings upon entering a relationship or doesn't want to act on them in the first place I'm honestly not sure. (Edgeworth is an interesting case for me because I flip flop between him having feelings or being omniaromantic lol) Probably never getting married regardless. Even before the lines about it I had my doubts! I like the idea of him marrying for tax benefits but outside of that.. I can't see him ever entering a traditional marriage let alone traditional romance. It feels out of character for him
There are others but these are by far the most developed ones! Recipro Phoenix and aroace lesbian Maya are my favorites because they feel the most accurate in regards to canon but pan angled aroace Mia is also up there. I'm probably going to post more arospec headcanons as I come up with them because y'all seem to really like them and I like talking about em!!
Thank you so much for asking!

From a young age, borrowers are encouraged to do as much for themselves as they can. They're social creatures by nature, and thrive in larger community settings, but their continued existence depends on not being detected. This means that small family groups and, often, solo individuals, are the norm. Not by nature, but by necessity. To that end, borrower children are taught the necessary skills for survival as early as they're able. It's not to get them out on their own quickly, but more because of how fragile and volatile a borrower's life can be. Orphans are remarkably common. They're taught to fend for themselves, because soon enough they may have to.
This is Phoenix Wright's first solo borrowing.
He is 9 years old.
The risk is low. Only two beans live here, and they're both rather preoccupied at the moment. All he has to do is get a couple of things. It'll be over before he knows it.
He silently makes his way across a countertop, and climbs into a cupboard. He knows where his target is. This borrowing stuff is easy, he didn't even SEE a bean.
Too bad he didn't hear one either.
The cupboard he's in is opened and light floods his eyes. He squints and finds himself face to face with the younger bean, caught red handed, quite literally, on account of the Cheeto dust. Flamin' Hot, naturally.
They stare at each other for a minute.
And another.
And another.
It almost seems like the bean is having trouble processing what he's seeing, as if he can't figure out what the appropriate response is.
"Um, hello. My name is Miles Edgeworth. What's yours?" He finally settles on.
"Uh.. Ph-Phoenix... Wright?"
The bean- the Miles- laughs. "I'm not sure, you tell me. Is it Phoenix or not?"
Phoenix is baffled. "Y-yes. That's right, Phoenix."
"Right." Miles nods.
"Yes."
"What?"
"That's right. I'm Wright."
"You're right? Then we're both right. Right?"
"I thought you were Edgeworth? Am I wrong?"
"No, you're right."
"That's right."
The two of them just look at each other for a moment, and simultaneously laugh. Laughing! With a bean! Phoenix is starting to suspect everything about his worldview might be a lie. Either that, or he found a rare One Of The Good Ones.
"So, um... May I ask what you're doing in my cupboard?" Miles asks. Phoenix has to think for a moment. What if he only gets mad when he realizes he's being borrowed from? Beans don't tend to take kindly to learning that.
But then again. What other explanation could there be?
"I... I was inspecting them. See, sometimes little bugs can get into these things, through even the tiniest of cracks in the wall. How would you feel if you started putting on the Ritz, only to find your crackers crawling with ants? I'm really doing you beans a service, here." Phoenix lies through his little teeth.
"...Ah... yes. Of... of course. That... makes sense. You know, if you're hungry, you can just help yourself. I don't mind. I'm sure you don't eat much. You can even take a little extra for later, if you want."
Phoenix bites into a Cheeto. He doesn't even hesitate.
"Mmmrf... Shank you... Mrrnff..."
Miles laughs, not necessarily at Phoenix's shameless display of his lack of table manners, but just... At the absurdity of the whole situation. Phoenix double checks the contents of his bag, and prepares to leave.
"W-wait! Are you... Leaving?" Miles looks at him like a sad, lost puppy.
"I have to. If I don't return soon, I'll never hear the end of it. I mean it, though... Thank you. For letting me take that stuff, and... For keeping me a secret."
"I don't recall promising to keep you a secret." Miles raises an eyebrow.
"Well, you did now." Phoenix winks. Miles gets a determined look on his face and nods.
"I understand..." He watches him as he disappears through a crack in the wall he'd never even put a second thought into. "Wait! Will I... Ever see you again...?"
Phoenix steps back out into the light for a moment. He looks down, thinking hard, considering all of the angles. Turning his thinking around- If beans are so dangerous, then the best way to survive a world full of them is to have one on your side, right? He looks up at Miles, and smiles.
"I think we can arrange that."

Hi!! Just dropping by to say I love your Saturation fic! It’s probably the only AA fic I repeatedly read myself, since I think your writing for the characters is so strong and in-character, and you change details that make sense/fix problematic issues (such as the Trucy panties thing) also it just has the right tone of the AA series. Usually in fanfic people it’s their own writing style, the tone of the media they’re right for can get lost, so I like how you actively try to keep AA’s wacky funny tone while also being heartwarming. It’s just. Great. Makes it really fit you know?
Also!! I find it very cool you made Phoenix and Edgeworth get together during the disbarred era, I haven’t read a large amount of AA fanfic so i don’t know if it’s common for those two to already be in a relationship in other fics, but I think it’s really interesting you made that decision! Not just with AA, in pairing fics you don’t usually have the characters get together until the end since that’s the “goal.” I see very few of fics that actually explore how the relationship changes/morphs when they actually are together. That’s usually just a thing for most couples getting together in media now that I think about it.. You have any thoughts on that?
First off, thank-you so much, I'm both honoured and flattered, thank-you! ^U^ ^///^ Hearing that I've really captured the tone of a setting and its characters always feels wonderful! <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
I've never seen them get together/be together in the disbarment era during a fic in quite the way I'm doing it - that's honestly a big part of why I am doing it as I am. Like... if AO3's a potluck, then I tend to devour all the yummy stuff everyone else has made, then try and cook any dishes I'm craving but no one else has made myself.
Except in this case I thought I was making a nice spaghetti dinner and discovered too late that I was, in fact, making an entire banquet and also desert.
Such is life.
In regards to Phoenix and Miles getting together and it not being the end of the fic... it could just be me being an aromantic (which I am), but I generally don't find 'they get together and then the story ends' stories very satisfying for long-form stories. Like... I can enjoy it in movies, but once we start getting past the hour and a half mark the snail in my ear shouting "NOW KISS" gets progressively louder.
Also, I just like seeing the post get-together relationship grow and develop! I've been cheering for these characters to become a couple, I want to see them actually get to be a couple, you know? It's more fun that way, a much more satisfying pay-off! And it's fun getting to follow them on their path, see how they relate to each other, how this shifts things in other aspects of their lives - it's really great! One of my favorite manga is called Otomen, it's eighteen volumes long, and the main couple get together for realsies in volume two. It's a series with its flaws, they all are, but dang is it a satisfying read in regards to their relationship and getting to watch these two grow up and grow closer together as they learn more about themselves and each other! This is my jam, I absolutely in no way want to ever date or be in a queer platonic relationship with anyone else (though I do have a BFF whom I love dearly), but I adore reading about other people being in love and enjoying being in love; makes me happy to see happy couples in real life, too!
As to why I personally think mainstream media doesn't tend to do this, honestly? Cowardice. Not because they're afraid to try new things (we've had some awesome shows recently that some fantastic creators have worked so hard to bring us), but because 'will they won't they' story lines historically sell, and sell well, and it's an easy way to get people tuning in week after week. I think a lot of people who call the shots and do the marketing research for shows believe that, if given the satisfaction of seeing their ship get together (or get together and be happy), then they'll stop watching or tuning in, because they've gotten what they wanted and don't need to watch anymore. They're afraid that giving the viewers any lasting satisfaction will cause them to lose interest in a show. I could be wrong, I'm in no ways an expert on this stuff, but this is the general vibe I've gotten over the years.
Anyways, thank-you again, I'm really happy to hear that you're enjoying my fic so much! ^_^ <3

Do.. do you think Edgeworth ever wishes he was adopted by someone other than Manfred von Karma? Someone like... Maybe-*GUNSHOT*
Like c'mon he knows Trucy. He totally has a adoptive parent tier list. Just a coincidence that someone happens to be on that list.
Anyway I agree that you should put him in a locked room with Freud.
i would like to start the response by saying this is all said in a light-hearted manner.
no. when i make jokes about freud, it's 90% a meaningless joke, 10% me thinking edgeworth just said something really fucking weird, but i just. don't do this to me. please don't make them weird. because that would legitimately be very weird and would permanently fuck up the dynamic, and also, i just can't picture that being canon-compliant. sure, edgeworth might see a bit of his child self in trucy, but only in a "she has been through something traumatic in court and it concerned her father. i remember how i used to feel in that time of my life. i hope she has a better support system than i did" way, not in a... wishing phoenix was his dad way.
and speaking of the aai2 line about comparing phoenix to his dad, jokes aside, i think it's just an ace attorney-specific thing. the characters in the series frequently resemble their mentors, friends, family and loved ones, so it's only natural for someone to notice those bits and pieces. when Diego noticed phoenix resembling mia, it didn't exactly mean he suddenly desired phoenix carnally. well actually diego x phoenix is very funny to me but. not the point. it happens with a lot of characters in a lot of different situations, and edgeworth is capable of seeing people as individual beings, much more capable of it than wright, in fact.
so, no, i don't think that, anon, i feel like it wouldn't make sense for the characters or be cute. i would still put edgeworth in a room with freud though, but not because freud would be right: i just like seeing men suffer sometimes.
i will continue making freud jokes but when it gets serious i prefer to use common sense instead of whatever he used in his works.

8, 9, and 10!
hi ash!!
8. common fandom opinion everyone is wrong about.
the "grape juice" just being grape juice. i'm in the "it's wine" camp for a few reasons (relating to the history of video-game development and ratings in relation to alcohol, the context in-game, what we know about shu takumi himself and phoenix's character, etc.) and i will die on this hill. but i also am not going to get into it with people, because i understand it's a sensitive subject.
9. worst part of canon
the 7 year gap?! i honestly truly believe that it only is 7 years because capcom and/or the game directors/writers wanted the delay between aa4 & aa5 to make sense and to have a reason to make the characters older. i think there is reason to have there be a few years of phoenix being disbarred there but 7 is an insane amount actually.
10. worst part of fanon
i could name so many things here. honestly. i started writing fic before i started engaging in the fandom and was so surprised by what i found lol. i don't like to be a little hater, i like to let people have their hcs and all that but it's wild to me how many have been adopted by the larger fandom no questions asked. so i'm going to name a few.
phoenix with heterochromia. i just don't like this one personally, i know they changed his eye color in the games and that's why people do it but like... so just pick one?
"uncle miles," especially in nrmt fics??? maybe this is just my own experience talking here, but my parents both had partners that i met growing up and none of them were referred to by aunt or uncle. you would think with how much issue people in this fandom take with shipping characters who aren't related but have a relationship that are like family (i am not saying this is necessarily a bad thing, i am pretty much with you) that this would automatically be something they wouldn't do, but then they have trucy call miles "uncle" when he's sleeping with her dad. i promise you trucy can handle knowing her dad has a boyfriend or a maybe-boyfriend or a complicated relationship with his best friend or however you want to write it.
and regarding the above, just all of the forced family roles that get given to characters. i don't mind some of it, i think that maya and phoenix might as well be siblings and refer to each other as such, and same with edgeworth and franziska. but i don't think found family needs to actually be forced into rigid labeled boxes like aunt and uncle and daughter and dad. i don't think franziska needs to be trucy's aunt or pearl needs to be edgeworth's niece or edgeworth needs to be kay's dad or stuff like that, i think they can all just be close and can be family for each other and fill in roles like that without needing to be called that. you know. like how we often do it in real life. and how do people who do have an issue with shipping people who are like family to each other not also see the issue with forcing characters into those boxes but then shipping the niece and the daughter...? i just don't get it i'm sorry 💀 just throw the whole box out. let people be close without making them conform to an Actual Family Hierarchy and your life will be better for it i promise.
steps down from my soapbox.

franziska and maya are SUCH interesting characters in the games. by themselves, but also compared side-by-side. both are the same age, but are miles apart in personality. both come from essentially the same traumatic background of prematurely losing a parent, being left with a guardian whose behaviour ranged from neglectful to destructive, exacerbating their underlying fears of inadequacy caused by the pressure to be an exemplary figure in their respective families.
both are also very sheltered from the world and their lack of common experience manifests differently; maya’s sweetly unaware of her eccentricities and easily makes friends with other people, though her naivety sometimes makes her vulnerable; franziska pushes people away by being somewhat socially inept, because she hasn’t been raised to understand how to interact beyond competition.
maya had the kindness of her sister (and likely many other unseen villagers) growing up to allow her to become a marginally mentally healthier person. franziska only had a fraught relationship with edgeworth, which her father was determined to crush, and seemingly no other close friends in her life (apart from a possible older sibling ig but?? they might’ve retconned/forgotten about that one). they are both what the other could have been under different circumstances. which makes them Excellent candidates to pair up and expand on.
capcom come to your senses & let them have a case together please

with the apollo justice ports around the corner I finally made a concerted effort to finish AAI. there was a period where i thought i'd play both investigations games AND tgaa before now. lol. lmao even
fandom wasn't kidding that last case can long
miscellaneous spoilers and overall thoughts on AAI1. also it's very long
let's get some good stuff up top to start:
it was pretty funny
the pixel sprites were soooo cute, and most of the character art was nice in general
i liked seeing more of edgeworth and franziska together. this was 80% of the reason i played the game to begin with. stupid little details like the fact that she does, actually, still call him "miles" occasionally were nice to have, and i liked a lot of their bratty sibling interactions
callisto yew was the best lmao i loved her
kay's cute. i gotta disagree with the common fanon that she's literally edgeworth's daughter, on account of it's been two days and someone else has raised her to near adulthood, but being a teenager who shows up sometimes to bother him is a very funny thing for her to be, anyway
the yatagarsu actually being a toxic polycule was funny as shit lmao i love it. and kay at the end saying she wants to find 3 fellow teenage beauties to do it with her fhkldhglkhlfg yes girl end up on reddit queer housing discourse i believe in u babe
i didn't like lang all that much to begin with but once we got to the shih-na reveal i was all in, lmfaoooo. i joked "i hope he eats a poison necklace for her" and five minutes later he was taking a bullet. amazing. in all seriousness their relationship felt like much of what i enjoyed about dahlia and phoenix minus the stuff i felt was stupid. let's hear it for toxic workplace romances. edgey comes out of 3-5 like "well that was a lot" and then meets some new spiky weirdo to have homoerotic rivalry with only to discover that guy is also insane about some evil woman
cammy and ms teneiro were also great. lot of funny women in some of these cases. i like that.
this game could have attempted to sell me on some het romance for edgeworth -- it wouldn't have worked, but i wouldn't have exactly been surprised if it had tried, yknow -- but anyway instead it had miscellaneous women flirt with him while he was consistently baffled and/or oblivious and/or revolted. don't worry mr edgeworth i saw your magenta suit
i think broadly that covers the stuff I liked. which leads me to ... stuff I did not:
this game was... rough, imo. after i finished the trilogy this summer i was excited to play this, in particular because one of my few but key complaints with aa3-5 was that franziska and edgeworth just kind of disappeared and i was hoping this would give more exploration and closure to their characters.
that... did not happen. i felt like i was waiting for it to hit a point and get good for pretty much the entire game; it'd be like "well at least franziska is here soon" "well i want to meet kay" "well there's the baby franziska case" "well it's the finale surely it'll be fun!" and mostly none of that really materialized. largely i found it disappointing and anticlimactic.
i don't think i learned anything new about the existing characters -- edgeworth just kind of seemed to be reiterating lessons we already learned in the trilogy, and i felt they negated a lot of franziska's trilogy development and/or flanderized her a lot. the new characters are ok -- i LOVED yew/shih-na lmfao, and I like Kay, and I eventually came to like Lang once I saw him be unhinged about shih-na. but overall i felt the character work was weaker than I was expecting, and without the investment I have from the trilogy I doubt I'd have finished the game. the bratworth + baby franziska case was my fave of the game, because it was fun to see them together in that period of their lives, but even then I don't think how edgeworth was written makes any real sense with aa1 -- i think trilogy bratworth would take the easy conviction against gumshoe and be done with it. that was like. pretty core to the first three games.
I didn't find anything particularly emotional. I WAS interested in Callisto and her dead sister as compared to Kay and her dead father but, never mind, that was a lie. They tried to convince me KG8 was personal to everyone, but it didn't really feel like it for anyone but Kay -- who I like but met two cases ago, and whose connection to even Edgeworth is tenuous. Like they make it pretty clear Franziska is haunted by that case but ... why? Because she regards it as a semi failure I guess...? Like sure, I guess, but ... that's kind of remote. Compare to the trilogy finale stakes of defendant Edgeworth, Maya kidnapped, Phoenix falling off a bridge + Maya missing... the big threat here was that some guy we just recently met might go on to murder other people we've never met in foreign countries. Objectively yes that's bad, but it's not exactly emotionally gripping, imo.
I feel like the nature of the games and its place in the broader AA universe meant the stakes were off. edgeworth and his allies get accused of murder every five minutes in this game, but none of it ever feels real, because by "accused" they mean the police ask a few questions. in AA terms, this is nothing. there's no detention center or arrest or the threat of a 3 day trial and inexplicable death penalty. i've been saying for ages that i would love to see defendant franziska, everyone else got a turn!!, etc -- and technically this last case gave it to me except, well, she was one of about a dozen people accused over the span of the world's longest case, there's no real threat there, and frankly where's the fun in franziska being accused of murder if not for her to grudgingly accept phoenix as her representation. AAI's determination that everything happen pre-trial means that mostly none of it felt very serious; no one even gets arrested. maybe in a vacuum the threat of arrest would feel like enough, but in a series where you have Maya as Murder Charges Georg it just felt like nothing was really on the line -- what's the worst that happens, they get arrested and they hire phoenix? lol. don't threaten me with a good time!
this post is a million words long so I'll stop there. in conclusion, the worst ace attorney game I have played so far. fortunately(?) for AAI and unfortunately for me, i have not yet played dual destinies or spirit of justice, so stay tuned to see if it gets dethroned, lmfao.
i will, probably, eventually give AAI2 a try, if only to better understand everyone's fanfiction, but my hopes are pretty low.

I hope it isn’t too much but:
1, 7, 8, 12, 16, 18, 25
It can be any fandom :D
Thank you very much! I think I'm going to go "fandom general" or what comes to my mind spontaneously then :D
Now, let's get down!
Tumblr media
The character everyone gets wrong
Two characters come to mind for this:
Nadia from "The Arcana", and Kristoph from "Apollo Justice".
Okay "everyone" is an exaggeration of course, but most of the popular takes and characterisations I stumbled upon don't seem right.
Tumblr media
Nadia is way too often softened and shown as this Goddess who can do no wrong although her whole premise and route (partly) says otherwise!! And even the creators and narrative go and write how nothing is her fault and everyone quickly forgives and loves her even though it doesn't make sense! Nadia is a wonderful, very interesting character, but her flaws are way too often overlooked!
Tumblr media
Kristoph, just like Godot, suffers from the bad English translation (or rather interpretation of the translators and players) and gets a lot of hate for it. Is almost always written as an abusive brother/lover and a sociopath and his black psyche locks get swept under the rug as "his paranoia" when it's obviously not! Canon gave an explanation for what these locks are, stop finding excuses because you don't want to see that Kristoph is actually more complex, not so rotten as you'd like to!!!
7. what character did you begin to hate not because of canon but because how how the fandom acts about them?
Not "hate" but... I really got fed up of these two at one point:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
While I've calmed myself about Sans and (fortunately) started finding more satisfying fanwork with him, and less multi-universe Sanses who are the creators and absolute core character of the story didn't you know; I'm still salty about Elsa, and not just because of the fandom, but also because of how CANON. The blatant favouritism and neglect of Anna because of that bitch her gets on my nerves so bad!!
And while I don't hate or despise, I am getting saltier with this one when it comes to how fandom portrays his relationship with Phoenix:
Tumblr media
Don't get me wrong, I still like the character, but my enjoyment of WrightWorth has dropped quite a lot lately because I am SO SICK of how fandom is most often making Phoenix the "irresponsible one", ridiculing him and his traumas, or worst! Like, if these people are biased AF for Edgy and projecting on him; then I must say that I relate a lot to Phoenix, especially his experience with that letter, yes THAT ONE! DO YOU HAVE ANY FREAKING IDEA OF HOW HARD IT IS TO RECEIVE THIS KIND OF MESSAGE FROM SOMEONE YOU CARE ABOUT ONLY FOR THEM TO JUST THEN WALK BACK AND ACT AS IF NOTHING HAPPENED?!!! I had a similar experience in the past and IT STILL HURT THINKING ABOUT IT!! And stangely, if you look up with tags like "Edgeworth critical", "Edgeworth salt" or anything where you want some catharsis or just see if there's a story where Edgy's mess catches up to him and he isn't miraculously forgiven or anything and he must live with the consequences? Like many fics do with Phoenix, where he's either an asshole or authors insist on how "his actions are CONSEQUENCES!!", but there ARE NONE (to my knowledge!) for Edgy?! At best, it's a "the wrongs are shared"; Phoenix can get some bashing, but Miles cannot. How is that, I wonder...
8. Common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about
In general: when a character isn't good at school, or interested in it or something like that = they're dumb (and vice versa). No, JUST NO! Just because someone doesn't get good marks or doesn't like school doesn't mean they're stupid or won't get anywhere in life, that's just plain propaganda we've been hammered for too long! You want a fictional example? Chloe Price - from "Life is Strange; Before the Storm" - loves chemistry and is quite knowledgeable about it, but she doesn't get good grades because she doesn't put any effort into her studies or is bravading. As for her "dumb" decisions and life choices, it's not linked to her academic results, full stop.
On the same category: naive and/or innocent =/= dumb, please!!
12. The unpopular character that you actually like and why more people should like them
I think I like too many unpopular characters to pick one and I don't want to persuade anyone. I just wish people would respect people who have a different opinion, and accept that what they see in a character, others don't but they see something in the character they don't like. No one has to justify why they like this or that.
16. you can't understand why so many people like this thing (characterization, trope, headcanon, etc)
Very salty version of a character or story, while I can get the catharsis aspect and use a character as a mouthpiece sometimes, pushing it so far that said chara is unrecognizable and just gratuitously mean/rude to others? Nope.
The "Y character was raped/sexually abused by X" with basically nothing in canon to support that theory. Not everything is about sex! And it's mostly used as an excuse to pile more traumas on a character, but then they never explore or really address it afterwards.
The "homewrecker" fake friend. I know fake/bad friends can be interesting to work with, given how it can affect someone (both irl and fictional), but I'm freaking tired of seeing girl/woman being reduced as petty and whose ultimate goal is to steal the MC's bf/fiancé. (Even if I admit that there are stories that have this trope that I like a lot, mostly because it's well-developed and has a good contest for it!)
18. It's absolutely criminal that the fandom has been sleeping on…
Princess Peach's origins!! Where are the theories?! Any story? Any concept for her parents or family?! And I'm not just talking about the movie! I remember seeing people having theories about Rosalina being the future daughter of Mario and Peach, but what if the two were (distantly) related another way? I mean, Peach has special powers no one else has in her world, and is very close to the Stars in general, what if one of her parents (her father in my HC) was from the Stars?
Tumblr media
25. Common fandom complaint that you're sick of hearing
In Miraculous: "Chloé deserved redemption and it was robbed from her."
Even without taking season 5 into account, no. She didn't "deserve" it. It would have been nice and/or interesting, but Chloé choosing not to change or change for the worse could be interesting too.
Do I have a problem with the writing of the show in general? YES. With Chloé, even if I'm not a fan? Yep. But I'm sick of people whining and going on about how everything would have been better if she had been a heroine (reminds me of Malfoy in HP fandom) and saying she's a poor abused baby girl when she's not. Abuse is a cycle, full of various manipulations, and neither André or Audrey used this on her! Unless you mean "abused" as in "suffers for bad parenting/poorly raised from André and negligence from Audrey", which I agree with.

aa or dgs, 1 3 25
1- the character everyone gets wrong
I am very particular about Kazuma's characterisation. To me there needs to be the right balance of strength, intelligence and determination, cringefail and anger/grief. That perfect balance is rare to see
3 - screenshot or description of the worst take you've seen on tumblr
The freud jokes about edgeworth. you know the ones. or maybe you dont and honestly thats a good thing.
25- common fandom complaint that you're sick of hearing
anything about lack of female-centric or sapphic content specifically on ao3 from ppl who do not go out of their way to support fic writers. this isnt even dgs or aa related its just. that content tends to not get much traction anyway. its one thing to want more ppl to make more of certain kinds of content (which I do as well lol) but if you aren't gonna interact or support it, what reason does a writer who equally enjoys making femslash and not-femslash content have to make more femslash content over anything else? its disheartening to work on something that ppl keep saying they want more of only for it to do badly. does this make sense. at all.

no problem on reblogging my post again it is by far one of my MOST favorite posts of all time i reaaally popped off when i wrote that. also one thing i didn’t mention there (bc it honestly would have distracted from the point i was making but is important nonetheless) is that making phoenix a random dark skinned poc is actually extremely colorist.
there is no reason he couldn’t be japanese and simultaneously dark skinned. even without making him an indigenous japanese person (which you should not do unless you are part of these ethnicities), even in the most common japanese ethnic group there are tons of people with darker/ tanned skin, curly hair, broad noses and to act like that is somehow not possible, not only is that extremely colorist, but also very racist because a lot of these notions stems from the acceptance of japanese imperialist propaganda.
and the worst part about it is that in the ACE ATTORNEY UNIVERSE they CANONICALLY!!! live in japanifornia, a fictional california that has a very high population of japanese people and japanese americans. there is literally NO REASON that phoenix or any of the other characters could be mixed japanese americans with dark skin. there’s no reason to remove their japanese heritage no reason to even say they aren’t asian, they live in america for generations most likely, it makes perfect sense that they could be mixed.
these fake diversity pilled artactivists™️ have no excuses for making phoenix or any other character a racist colorist caricature other than the fact that they have stage 4 racism disease. and this is concerning because i honestly thing the in game ace attorney universe has more issues with colorism than it does with racism (ranting about this has convinced me to make a post about it don’t worry i’ll explain soon) because even though yes there are racist elements in the aa games (soj worst offender) but there are HUGE colorism elements in EVERY AA GAME!! and it has been soaked up by the naturally racist white members of the fandom and instead of addressing it, they simply just make a cute headcanon about it <3
(sorry for ranting about this but!! fun fact, my phone automatically switched to my chinese keyboard the second i opened your ask box lmfao 🤭🤭🤭)
no like literally what is in the water that's making so many ppl think both that asian ppl can't have dark skin and that edgeworth is white. ANF FOR REAL the ace attorney games have an INCREDIBLY notable problem with colorism especially the later games so dark-skinned asian esp desi ppl projecting on phoenix and trucy are braver than any u.s. marine bc there is rarely an in between of woobifying phoenix (trilogy + 5-6) or calling him gross and greasy and smelly (aj) like wgat is the DEAL!!
like colorism is a ridiculous problem everywhere and choosing to flat-out ignore and never address the colorism in the aa games while making the more aggressive, unintelligent, greasy, etc. ambiguously brown or black in art as a white and/or light-skinned person is weird as hell. and if it rubs me the wrong way as a wasian guy w light skin i can't even imagine how fking tiring this is to u. am looking forward to seeing ur post going into this in more depth bc i'm literally just dumbfounded at the fact that people can even do this and post it on the internet.
also my inbox is a free space for ACE ATTORNEY RANTS u r always welcome here this is the "this fanbase is insane" dropbox. and ur chinese keyboard opening was an omen for my friends bullying me for the way i say 空儿 i feel like the chinese joker rn

Something I do think is underexplored in the fandom regarding Phoenix's reaction to Miles' character undeath is his anger. Not his anger at Miles faking his death, but his anger at Miles killing himself.
There's quite a few moments in canon, even before Phoenix finds out Edgeworth's alive, that Phoenix expressed anger and disdain towards him. The most obvious is his repeated refusal to talk about, or even hear Edgeworth's name. But there's also his aggressive denial towards Pearl that prosecutors can have 'a heart of gold' or be anything but bad, and other such moments. Phoenix's hostility towards Edgeworth was present long before he found out he was alive.
It's not even really an implication or interpretation that Phoenix was angry at Edgeworth for (presumably) committing suicide. It's text. And he wasn't angry in that helpless sense people feel angry at loved ones for dying as a way of dealing with grief; Phoenix's anger was pointed and had clear direction.
He was angry because he saw Miles committing suicide as him giving up, running away from his problems, and succumbing to his pride. Phoenix had believed that Miles needed saving, both from what he had become as the Demon Prosecutor, as well as from whatever made him become that, and had dedicated the last few years of his life to doing exactly that. When everyone, including Edgeworth himself, believed that he was a bad person and beyond helping, Phoenix ignored everything they were saying because he believed otherwise. And it worked, didn't it? He gave Miles closure regarding the murder of his father, exposed the manipulations of his mentor and put a stop to them, and proved that if Miles used forged evidence, it was without his knowledge. Phoenix did everything he could to show the world that Edgeworth wasn't bad, and proved to Edgeworth that his worldview was wrong and needed adjusting, that he needed to change. He put Edgeworth in the best possible position to change and become the better person Phoenix had always known he was, deep down.
And then Edgeworth seemingly kills himself, leaving only a note reading 'Prosecutor Miles Edgeworth chooses death'. Prosecutor.
It is pretty clear Phoenix took this as a betrayal. That he interpreted Edgeworth's apparent suicide as a confirmation that everyone else was right to see Edgeworth as nothing more than an immoral prosecutor obsessed with his win record, and that he was supid for believing otherwise. He believed Edgeworth had killed himself because he couldn't handle the changes Phoenix had brought to his life, the way he'd forced him to re-evaluate his worldview. That he'd rather die than put the work in to change.
For the record, this is a terribly unfair and insensitive way to look at suicide. Suicide occurs when someone feels so hopeless that death feels like the only way out. It is not weak or cowardly, and people who commit suicide or are suicidal deserve compassion. The idea that suicide is selfish is distressingly common, and this demonization is detrimental to efforts of suicide prevention. Being angry at someone who committed suicide, like being angry at someone who, say, died of cancer, is understandable in the sense that human emotions are often irrational, and people still have a right to feel them. But it is unproductive and unfair, and if externalized uncritically, can cause serious harm.
That said, I don't think it does anyone any favors to overlook this part of Phoenix's character, or reduce his anger at Edgeworth to 'mad at being deceived' or even 'misdirected grief'. Because while I'm those things were a part of his anger, the majority of it was very clearly anger at Edgeworth's perceived inability to get over his pride, and 'betraying' Phoenix by refusing to become better.
While it's certainly possible (and even likely, imo) that at least part of the reason this reaction was written was the lack of understanding about suicide displayed in AA2 (see also: Edgeworth telling Adrien Andrews he doesn't care if she kills herself and this somehow turning out to be a good thing), I do think it actually makes sense for Phoenix and is an interesting character note. It shows kind of a darker flip side to his saviour complex (that AA3 goes more in depth on via the character of Godot), which I think makes Phoenix a more complex character. Plus, although I'm unsure if this was intentional (because I'm not sure to what extent the plot of AA3 had been planned at this point), Edgeworth wasn't the first person Phoenix tried to save, even as people told him not to try. That was Dahlia. With that in mind, I think it makes a lot of sense for Phoenix to become bitter and angry at his efforts seemingly failing for a second time, even if this is irrational and unfair.
It is also in line with the resolution of this arc in AA2. Phoenix's anger towards Miles wasn't resolved by an apology from Miles, or a promise from Miles not to disappear without warning again, or something. Because, while obviously a dick move, Miles leaving wasn't truly the issue here. The issue was that, in the past year, Phoenix had come to hate an imaginary version of Miles he couldn't save, who he believed ran away from becoming a better person. And when confronted with a version of Miles who left specifically in order to become a better person, who did not in fact shirk his responsibilities and who did deserve Phoenix's belief in him, Phoenix was unsure how to react, and thus kept clinging to his faulty worldview. And ultimately, this was resolved by the realization that he still trusted Miles, that he believed that Edgeworth would do the right thing, and thus, letting go of this faulty worldview when presented with evidence to the contrary.
Farewell, My Turnabout plays with a role reversal of Phoenix and Edgeworth, and while I think many aspects of that could've been a lot better handled, this particular one, I think, was actually written very well.
So it's kind of... weird? Disappointing? To see people instead squarely frame Miles as in the wrong in this arc, or reduce Phoenix's reactions to Miles' presumed death to grief, self-blame, and/or righteous anger. It is especially strange to me whenever I read a fic with the interpretation that Miles did want/try to commit suicide before going to Europe, and Phoenix's anger lessens when he finds out. Because honestly, while Phoenix was definitely angry about Miles faking his death, he was more angry at the idea that Miles committed suicide/ran away because of bruised pride and a refusal to change. If Miles did genuinely plan on committing suicide, and told that to Phoenix... well. Frankly, that would probably get pretty damn ugly. And I get that's not necessarily fun to think or write about for everyone! But personally, as someone who likes exploring character's flaws, I wish it'd be adressed more often.

oh??? pokemon au???? please take this ask as an opportunity to share more (if you'd like!) >_>
using this as an opportunity to actually flesh out some plot as opposed to me just kind of mindlessly thinking about it earlier-- i have a tendency to always make pokemon AUs regardless of the fandom i'm in because despite not playing many pokemon games im so obsessed with spending hours just looking at different pokemon types and moves and creatures, so.
i think plot wise we would have the classic Phoenix protagonist Edgeworth rival situation, Gregory can be the scientist father who dies at some point idk. Maya is one of the Water (? I feel like) trainers who starts accompanying Phoenix around, etc. you find out later that Edgeworth's adoptive sister, Franziska's, dad is one of the elite 4 who also doubles as Bad Guy Group-- Phoenix ends up defeating him, it ends platonic but over time they both grow up, Edgeworth goes to a different region to become a gym leader and/or scientist and Phoenix becomes a local gym leader (who eventually falls from grace somehow, idk something happens and he stops caring so much about putting up a good fight? idk)
I think w/ the Apollo and co cast we have more liberty to get funky with it since a lot of that earlier stuff is kind of following the generic plots of most PKMN games. TBH I cannot conceive of any real plot here and this is where I start to get more focused on just thinking about the types everyone has.
if i WERE to write a PKMN AU it'd be a few assorted ficlets in that universe or just one one-shot exploring it. I think that Ema is definitely a scientist interested in studying the PKMN who happens to kind of roam around the regions and keeps meeting up with Apollo, first coincidentally but at some point tries purposefully to hang out with him b/c friendship. Klavier is def a rival but I do think it'd be kind of interesting if he was a former Elite 4 or something alongside Kristoph? dunno but I do think that'd be cool.
it's late so I'm just going to kind of skim through a few websites but I want to put some genuine thought into this with different stats and strengths and locations etc, but just basic perspective on types & pokemon
Athena NEEDS an Audino. Then, either a Gallade or Medicham, because I think her having a Psychic + Fighting is very in character. I only think she keeps a few around-- I don't totally know her role yet in terms of this but her and Apollo are besties, naturally, and her and Simon are familial. (Note: Athena with a Mimikyu would be kind of iconic).
For characterization purposes SOMEONE needs an Absol. I think it would be cool if Klavier had one personally but I also could be on board with Edgeworth having one, I think you could take that in a few different directions for both.
I don't totally have reasoning for this but I think Apollo with a Wooper/Quagsire is REALLY funny. As a whole I'd want to give him a fairly diverse range of Pokemon, but leaning towards some of the more common ones, if that makes sense? Think he has a Pidgey evolved along the way, probably a fire/fighting, ground, etc.
The Paynes are known for fighting as a duo and both of them always have a Weezing.
This is a little out there but hear me out: Phoenix with an Abra (evolved along), because it's well established that he's lucky as fuck.
Klavier has a Malamar because I like to think i'm funny. He might also have a Sneasel though. fuck, I didn't want to make him a Dark type that was exactly the opposite of my point but i keep finding really great dark types for him LOL
Simon with a Honchcrow, obviously. Also at least one Dragon type for symbolism, or something.
this is the most fun thing i've done all day but unfortunately i have to sleep early for school tmrw :/ if you have more thoughts sully pls share always such a delight to see u in my inbox and notifs makes me smile lots. sorry for rambling i just have a lot of feelings about pokemon
