Lily's Courageous Battle: Overcoming Depression On Her Own Terms

Once upon a time, there was a brave girl named Lily. She was always happy and cheerful

but one day, she started feeling sad and hopeless. She didn't know what was happening to her, but she knew she didn't like it.

She decided to go to a doctor who diagnosed her with depression, Lily was scared, but she decided to face her depression and overcome it by herself.

Lily started by talking to her friends and family about how she was feeling. She realized that she wasn't alone and that many people go through the same thing. She also started doing things that made her happy, like reading, drawing, and spending time with her pets. She knew that it wouldn't be easy, but she was determined to overcome her depression.

With time, Lily started feeling better. She still had bad days but knew how to deal with them. She learned that it's okay to ask for help and that it's important to take care of herself. She was proud of herself for facing her depression and overcoming it by herself. And she knew that if she ever felt sad again, she would be strong enough to face it once more.

rdr2 is such a special game to replay because. god. the whole thing is a ghost story. the gang is dead before they even reach colter. everything that tears them apart - the mistrust, the friction, the loss, the lack of place and time - it's there from the beginning. before the beginning. papered over by a veneer of love and care and family but when the last of it leaves they're all just. gone. scraps of newspaper headlines faded in the sun and wooden grave markers that will rot and fall back into the earth. if you've played rdr you know what happens to these characters. you play your first playthrough of rdr2 knowing you're hurtling towards an inescapable end. you play every one thereafter knowing the end has already come.

#they're not doomed by the narrative. they're at odds with the narrative. this is a story that was never meant to be told #but it mattered. it fucking mattered.#this game makes me want to tear my hair out honestly #i'm also losing my mind thinking about writing a fic where the strange man pays each gang member a visit #so there's that #reiver plays rdr2 #rdr2

You know we all meme about how Luffy doesn't give a shit about his parents/Dragon, how he seemingly has no interest in learning about the man or meeting him at all, and like yeah that is a Luffyism

And for a long time I figured Baby Luffy would be the same too; that Luffy in his naïvete just accepted he must've spawned from the ocean itself into Garp's care or something, not realizing he should in fact have parents, thus Luffy's seeming disinterest in them

But you know what

Luffy did spend most of his early childhood alone

Sure, he had Garp, but it seems like Garp wasn't always there to look after him every day, he had his duties as a Marine too. Had Garp been there 24/7 all year then Garp would never have allowed Luffy to interact with Shanks (a filthy pirate) to begin with. So yes, Luffy had his grandpa, but not all the time. And sure, Luffy also had Shanks, but Shanks didn't spend all his time in Fuusha Village either, he came and went whenever he pleased too until his final departure when Luffy was just six years old. And yes, there was everyone else in the village too, people who cared about Luffy and were helping look after him. But Luffy's early childhood was one without a stable family.

It wasn't until Garp yeeted the child into Dadan's care that Luffy actually gained a proper family, where after months and months of trying Luffy managed to win Ace's trust and gained Sabo as a brother too. But as we know, by that point Luffy already hated being alone

All of this to say; Luffy growing up essentially orphaned would explain why he's so afraid to be alone, the way he clings onto people

In some ways Luffy's POV is meant to be the reader's POV, to some degree Luffy's feelings and thoughts are meant to be how we the readers feel and think about whaveter is happening in the story. Not a 100% by any means, but somewhat at the very least.

Perhaps Luffy's lack of interest in Dragon isn't just "Luffy not giving a damn about blood family because chosen families are better" nor "Luffy is too stupid to understand where babies come from". Perhaps Luffy, who may have assumed he didn't have parents at all (as in "might've assumed they were dead or had intentionally abandoned him"), doesn't know what to think about the fact that he does have a father out there, one whom he has never as much as met. Because yeah, Luffy doesn't know why Dragon left him with Garp, why he never got to be with his dad. Should he be angry at Dragon, hate him for being left alone? Or did Dragon have a good reason for it, does Dragon wish things could've been different?

Perhaps Luffy's seeming disinterest in Dragon isn't because he doesn't care about blood family, but because much like us the readers, Luffy doesn't quite know what to make of Dragon, and figuring those feelings out hasn't been relevant to the plot yet.

oh, very general emotions, it's not very Specific i'd think. cool colors correlate with cool emotions - like a frosty blue would mean he's feeling frigid, yk yk

Ok one thing I want to say is as a trans man I’m personally uncomfortable if a lesbian wants to date me. However I don’t mind trans men who do date lesbians because that’s totally cool, I just wish people wouldn’t make a big fuss about it when I say that “I” don’t want to (im super attracted to men being one reason) and my childhood best friend who’s a lesbian is cool with it too

today in insane anti-intellectualism: I just saw a post about how aspiring healthcare practitioners shouldn't take classes in biology and chemistry because those subjects are useless and bad. ????

#the op was like “they should have to study literature and the human condition like ME”#and it's like. hmmmm. I can understand where you're coming from here buddy but maybe think for a hot second #about why aspiring doctors have to take biology 101 before they can jump right into microbial genetics and viral pathogenesis or whatever #like. these classes build on each other. you absolutely need a basic understanding of college-level bio and chem before you can do anything #as someone who is very passionate about both science and writing #(I am getting a degree in microbiology and medical HUMANITIES. because I LIKE HUMANITIES)#I hate the rhetoric that certain STEM subjects are lame boring loser classes for closed-minded idiots who can't see the beauty in the world #there is so much beauty in biology and chemistry and physics! the universe is so big and weird and fascinating #but you'll never see that if you have the mentality that YOUR favorite subjects are the Only Ones That Matter Ever #for the record (as someone who's taken a lot of STEM and humanities classes recently) both STEM and humanities majors do this #and it's obnoxious no matter where it's coming from

HUH good question. first of all i think he'd be a little discombobulated by the very experience of watching a tv show but personally i choose to believe he'd at least be happy he was made into one of the main characters?? and that so many cool and sexy insane people are obsessed with him now <3
