Kind and important reminder from our beloved hacker :)
Tumblr media
Jake is not accountable to anyone, neither are you. You don’t have to justify yourself for everything and always, really not, I know it’s often hard not to. But especially if you’re doing something that’s good for yourself, you don’t have to explain it. You are an independent person with your own path. Go your way the way you want. ❤️

Evanescent
(She was the evanescent of his life– there and gone.)
Part 3
(Part 2: here.)
“He’s doing what?” Three of you shout together— well, you and Dan shout, Jake maintains his calmness even now.
“Does he not understand her condition right now?” Jake adds. And you feel the tension in him. The emotions that are trying to escape but don't manage to. His worry and concern regarding Hannah. You feel envious of how he doesn't hide his concern for Hannah.
“I know. You should talk to him, Jake. He's sort of scared of you ever since you shut him up for asking Amelia to go to the mine.” Lilly says hopefully.
Jake considers it for a second then: “Alright. I’ll do it. But I don't have his number saved.” He waves his phone, helplessly.
You take yours and unlock it. “Here. Take mine.”
Jake looks at you and nods. He types Thomas' name in the search bar with one hand and you find it so hot. His hands are as pretty as any other part of his body. Before hitting the call icon, Jake asks, “Is it fine if I go there?” He points towards an empty corner.
“Sure."
You still find it hard to communicate with him normally. Like you didn't just call everything between you two as a stupid crush a couple of hours ago.
You watch him as he takes slow steps while talking. His mouth is definitely moving but you don't hear a single word that leaves his mouth. Lilly goes to kitchen to keep the dishes. And Dan also excuses himself and starts watching TV in the loving room which is just to your left.
You remain sitting at the table because that's the only place from where you can stare at Jake. Since he's busy on the phone, you finally have time to take him in. And wow. If you hadn't fell for him over texts, you certainly would have by appearance. He's tall and despite all his problems, you believe he takes time out for work out. Currently, he’s wearing a black hoodie and grey sweatpants.
He suddenly sighs and looks above, resting his one hand in pocket. And you need to stop looking at him because these little things are making your heart skip. You got a long way to get over this man.
He pulls the phone back and looks at the screen, clearly annoyed by something. Maybe your notification. He goes back to talking and after a few minutes, he again pulls the phone away looking at the screen. When it happens the third time, he types something and goes back to talking. He might have answered someone's text in your place and you find it hard to believe that you don't mind at all.
When he’s finally done talking, he doesn't go to Lilly or Dan. He comes straight to you. He stands in front of you and offers your phone back. He says, “I talked to him. He won’t do it.” You nod and reach your hand out to take your phone back but the phone beeps and Jake pulls it back slightly, looking at the screen. You can't clearly see his face since he's looking down but he definitely made a face.
He offers your phone back to you. “Phil kept texting so I replied. And he certainly doesn't like my reply.” You take the one back and Jake sitting on Dan’s place. Beside you.
You open the texts.
Phil: Hey, I know we just ran into eachother, like what, two hours ago? But I couldn't help it.
Phil: So what brings you to Duskwood?
Phil: Are you ignoring me?
Me: Yes. So take a hint for once and leave her alone.
When Jake said he replied, you thought he meant he replied as you. But he replied as a third person. As him.
Phil: Who’s this?
You were certainly aware that Jake is looking at you or your phone at the moment, but when you turn towards him, he looks away, as if he is not interested. So you turn your attention back to your phone and so does Jake.
Me: Hey. I am sorry. Some asshole messed with my phone.
Phil: Just tell me the name. I know a lot of people here. I can help you get rid of him, Lia.
You heard Jake snort beside you. You can’t resist and look at him. “What is your problem?”
“Lia? Seriously? That's the best nickname he could come up with? I am disappointed.” No, you don't look disappointed. You look jealous. You wanted to say. But didn't.
“At least, he can give nicknames. Some people are just annoying when they use actual—”
“Amy.”
You suddenly can't form words. You look at him blankly but inside you are fighting a smile.
“That’s much better, isn't it?” He asks as leans back in the chair. He face is closer this way.
“No, yeah.” You say just for the sake of it.
He raises his eyebrow. He does it a lot. “Is that a yes or a no?” His voice becomes low and you feel it surrounding you from all directions.
“Yes.” Desperately, it leaves you. “I'll suggest this to Phil.”
Layers form on Jake's forehead. “No. You won't.”
“You want him to continue calling me Lia, then?” You ask.
Jake looks away. Then looks back at you. “I don't want him to call you anything. And if it is still not obvious to you then I'll say it. I don't even want him to call you or text you. And certainly not call you with a nickname I gave you.”
You can feel it when your heart skips a beat and then starts beating faster. You want to scream. He can't be with you and at the same time, he says things like this. You are not sure if you should confront him about this unfairness or just let your guard fall down and continue talking to him.
Your silence makes him realise it too as he sighs and looks away.
“I am sorry.” He says not looking at you. His hand on the table is turned into a tight fist. “I got distracted.” Then he sighs and looks at you again. “I don't mind if you move on. I’d prefer it but please, slowly.”
Your hand finds his on the table and you squeeze it. “Jake, we don't have to move on. If it's that hard to move on then let's not. Let's try. I know it will be hard too, maybe twice as hard but that's a price I can pay and I will. I just need you stop running.”
Jake’s hand turns and holds yours tighter. He’s not looking at you now but at your connected hands.
“This feels amazing.” He says, lifting your hand a bit. There's a small sad smile on his lips.
“I know.” You agree. “And I don't want to let go.”
He then looks at you. His gaze showing immense amount of emotions, almost impossible to take in. “Neither do I.” But then he's shaking his head. “But I need time, Amelia, a lot of it. To figure everything out. I certainly can't keep running with you around. I don't want you to go through that.”
Your other hand caresses his shoulder lightly. You nod, once, twice. Understanding. “You need time? I got a lot of it.”
He wears a painful expression. “You can't keep waiting for me.”
You laugh without humour. “Oh, try me."
His chest moves up then down. “If I develop a habit of you, I won't ever let you go.” He says it as if it's a bad thing. His thumb rubs against your skin.
“I am offended that you haven't already developed a habit of me.” The tension, the sadness was too much so you try to ease it. It works.
A full smile forms on Jake's lips. “I have. I can't go on with my day without thinking of you. And sometimes, you are all I think of. It's an illness, really."
A proud smile occurs on your face. “An illness? Then I want you to be forever sick of it.”
“I think I want to kiss you." He says. His eyes becoming a darker shade of green. His eyes on your lips then eyes. Just like he did earlier in the room before kissing you.
“Oh, I think you do.”
“But I can't." He points at Lilly who's guilty of staring at you two. She widens her eyes and looks away. You steal a glance at Dan and he's streching his arms awkwardly.
You look anywhere but Jake when you say it, “I mean. You got a room upstairs.”
“No way." Jake says and you look at him disappointed.
“Why not?” Your voice comes out tiny.
“You and me in a locked room? I'll get too much freedom.” He's so close to your face now. And you just know he's maintaining his distance for the sake of the audience.
Your eyes go to his lips. Too soft to not be kissed. “Maybe too much is just what I crave right now."
Part 4

Hey guys!! I got a question for you! So, the next chapter will most probably be smut, and I'm thinking of Jake's pov. But I have 2 options. Option 1: Jake's pov while doing it or Option 2: Jake’s pov of the aftercare. Let me know in the comments!!
And thanks for your support. Love you all✨✨🖤

Part 3
After what feels like forever to me sitting alone getting some fresh air and nature which is a nice change from the fast paced city life I've been living, I take a deep breath and stand up. As I do I hear the back door opening and I turn around not expecting to see anyone looking for me. I thought I had heard a car pull up but I wasn't sure and I see Phil standing in the doorway with 2 cups in his hand.
"So I have to find out the infamous Krista is in Duskwood by word of mouth from my sister and then have to come find you all alone out here?"
"Hey Phil, yeah sorry this trip was kind of a last minute thing and I needed some fresh air by myself"
He meets me half way and hands me the cup of tea "I wasn't sure what you like so its just some tea i grabbed at the store"
" thanks" i lean in and give him a hug as we had talked a little bit here and there in the last 2 months and I see Jake in the kitchen looking out the open door.
I'm staring right at him and I don't even notice Phil going in to kiss me until I move my head and it lands on my cheek.
I just smile and walk back inside with everyone as Dan and Thomas walk back in with pizza
"Oh yay! Pizza i'm starving after this trip" I feel a hand around my back and I move towards Jessy and Dan not sure who it was as I somehow was standing between Jake and Phil
"Krista, do you mind if you and I go talk outside for a moment?" Hannah asks
" Sure" I grab a plate with a piece of pizza and my tea
We go sit down by the firepit and its getting a bit chilly as its getting later
" What's going on Hannah?"
"We need to talk about Jake…. I know it's the last thing you want too but I hate to see him like this."
"I'm guessing you heard our conversation in the kitchen earlier '' I say not wanting to cause an issue " but I want to clear this up cause I don't want to be walking on eggshells this trip. I fell for Jake when we were searching for you. I saw a side of him I don't think he let anyone see and I trusted him that he was making the right choices even when I was unsure and he did… well we did as a team. Then you got saved and I thought this is great I'm gonna come to Duskwood meet you all and really see if what we had was real and he ghosted me. I guess I can't blame anyone but myself cause finding you was always his main mission"
She cuts me off " see that's where you're wrong. While yes you two connected over trying to find me he admitted to me he fell for you. These last 2 months since the mine he's been working with the FBI to clear his name so he doesn't have to hide behind the screen and not let people into his life. He's almost clear so he can live a normal life and finding me helped start that process"
I sigh and stare off into space that I don't hear someone walk up.
"Krista…." I jump at his voice " that's what i was trying to tell you earlier in the kitchen when you didn't want to talk. One thing you taught me was how to communicate but also how to let you talk and fully listen. I'm almost fully clear which means I can go anywhere i want which honestly is where you are"
" Jake, honestly I almost didn't come this week but I had made a promise to Alan that if Hannah was saved and he wanted me to come to Duskwood to answer questions I would. So here I am…. Only reason I told anyone was because of Jessy and Dan. So excuse me for putting my guard up when I have no idea what he wants to ask me or what's going to happen. You might have cleared your name but I was also hacking into things while trying to find Hannah and if the FBI is still here I might be on their radar for exactly that." As tears start forming again I feel myself lean into Jake and he wraps his arms around me as I start to cry.
"It's going to be okay. I can promise you the FBI isn't looking into you for what we did to find Hannah." He says as he pulls away looking down at me and wipes my tears away.
I look around and didn't notice Hannah had gone back in the house. Jake puts his hand out to me but I just grab my drink and plate which I barely touched and head back into the house. Before we go back inside i stop and look at jake
"Let's start over again and see where things go without us being on a hunt for someone" I say still in awh over his eyes
" that sounds like a good plan"
We walk in the house and I see Richy. I still can't forgive him for what he did to all of us and acting as the  MWAF.
He comes walking up to me.. "I'm sorry Krista for what i did again"
I turn to him for the first time. " Look, I'm not ready yet to accept and forgive you. Hannah and the rest might have but I haven't." I turn back and eat my pizza.

Too late to apologize - part 3
Too late to apologize - part 3
part 2 here
She still had a lot to do before she got back on the road : She had to erase the evidences on her own phone,  and have the two morons who were leering at her evilly do her a little favor. She shot them a quick glance with a small smirk, then focused on her phone again.
She took a deep breath then made a backup of her messaging application, and sent this backup to the drive of a secondary gmail account, an account that she deleted from her phone once the upload was done.
Another glance in direction to the two guys to make them wait a little more.
She went up in the conversation with Lily and erased the moments when it was question of the blood bond which united them.   Then she clicked on HIS name, and their last messages  showed up :
- "You must get out immediately, a fire has broken out. - Jake ?  - Please tell me everything's ok - I'm coming to get you."
Then she wrote a last sentence   :
- "Contact on avali's forum"
She was feeling so much pain, it was torture not to know if he was alive, if he was out of the mine …. She knew he would surely not forgive her,  but she was ready to do anything to keep him alive.
- "Mc  - I love you  - I love you too Jake"
She selected all the lines and as she clicked on the  'delete' button, a tear ran down her cheek. It was a piece of her heart that disappeared with those words.
With trembling hands, she scrolled the conversation up and erased all traces of their feelings for each other until nothing was left …
- "I'm sorry" ,she said in a whisper.
It took her some minutes to catch back control. "The show must go on", she thought.
She quiclky took a look at the two guys while she sipped the rest of her coffee, and stirred her empty paper cup, knowing It was only a matter of time before the two of  them came to her. She focused again on her phone , and logged to the dark forum and wrote a quick message,  which she left in the drafts :
- "On my way to Duskwood, I'm going to clear the exit of the mines, hold on"
'Out of coffee?', Said the dark-haired guy, with a fake smile, handing her a cup, while sitting in front of her.
She took the coffee,  looking at him right into his eyes, which seemed to unsettle him. He continued :
- "You looked completely desperate when you came in earlier, and I  am not one to give up on a pretty girl in need "
The other guy also comes and sits at the table but stands back, it seemed like they had agreed on who was going to try to hit on her.  She replied with a few words,  encouraging him to continue the conversation. The tall guy was talking about his car, his job, his second home With a view of the beach … blah blah blah . In accordance with what she had heard previously, the two men were heading towards the sea, in the opposite direction to her destination.  At first glance, she had already found him unpleasant and uninteresting, but  at the sight of the wedding ring on his finger, and hearing his stupid spiel, she classified him in the category of big assholes.
It was very difficult for her to seem interested, especially since she had to unpack the disposable phone and send the FBI on the wrong track.
The phone was half charged, which seemed to be more than enough, so she put it on silent and entered a random lock code. She didn't need to remember it, it was just extra security in case the phone was found more quickly than expected.
Then she wrote a simple text message to her personal phone number  :
"I'm fine, I would have liked to meet you in Duskwood, but it's too crowded ;) so i had to leave. I will contact you soon. Jake :)"
then she scheduled the message to be sent  in an hour.
The phone was old, but she didn't need a smartphone. She didn't plan to use the messaging app they had been using to communicate. She wanted to send a simple text message, a text message that will not pass through the internet network, but mobile network , and which could be easily and quickly traced. Satisfied, she slipped that old phone in the back pocket of her jeans.
She apologized to the two men : she was awaited, and had to leave. Disappointed at first , the tall brunette reiterated the  invitation to join them for a few days of heavenly vacation, to which she replied that she would think about it.
-"show me your car" , she asked him suddenly, while giggling.
The guy wouldn't have missed this opportunity for anything in the world and as  the three of them headed towards his car, he thought he had won the game.
She pretended to be impressed,  asked to sit in, and while she was faking enjoying the leather under her fingers, she slipped discreetly the phone between the backrest and the seat.
Finally, after giving the guy a fake phone number, she got back to her own car, relieved, "Bon voyage" She sneered, when she saw the two guys were already leaving the highway station.
MC made the rest of the journey without stopping and  décided to immediately go to  the waterfalls as soon as she reached Duskwood. She was strangely calm.
There were many vehicles, including police and emergency vehicles parked on the side of the road.  She parks her own car slightly back, and took a look at her phone :
There was one text message, which she immediately transferred to a number not saved on her mobile, but which she knew by heart. She put on her big black jacket and pulled the zip up to her chin before taking the narrow path leading to the waterfall.
It was 11 p.m, it was completely dark and she was progressing with a firm and determined step  by the light of her flashlight and guided by the sound of  voices she was hearing in the distance. She felt like she had been walking for hours, her pulse racing, the lump in her stomach felt like she was gasping for air. Finally she emerged at the edge of a large clearing, in which reigned a great commotion.
She had been walking in the dark for several minutes, so her eyes had a little trouble adjusting to the brightness of the numérous spotlights that illuminated every millimeter of the area.
In addition to firefighters, there were also heavily armed military personnel, dog handlers, local police and of course the FBI. Everyone was recognizable by their outfit. Near the waterfall, she saw a man in his forties whom she immediately identified without having ever seen him before as Alan  Bloomgate.
Further to the right, men were busy around something. She blinked several times before she could identify the form. With horror, she réalised It was a large black bag.
Everything was jostling in her head, she had to see, she had to be sure it wasn't him, lying in that bag.  She started running across the clearing without hearing the injunctions to stop, or  Alan yelling at the soldiers to lower their weapons. His two powerful arms intercepted her  and prevented her from going any further to approach the body. She struggled, trying to continue on her way to the corpse, but the cop was holding her tight and was way much stronger than her. He yelled at her that she needed to calm down, and that it wasn't her friend in the bag. Somehow, he recognized her as soon as he saw her.
When he had managed to get her attention, he explained that it was a firefighter who had gotten into the cave to try to limit the fire, but he had been surrounded by flames. His colleagues had succeeded in getting him out of the mine,  but unfortunately it was too late. The man died a few minutes later.  Richie had been discovered unconscious at the entrance of the cave, he had been taken to the hospital immediately, his vital prognosis was not engaged. He added that no one else seemed to have been in the mine.
She was nervously rubbing her feet, digging furrows in the ground. Looking at her, he found her pretty, her face was soft, her curves feminine, and despite the obvious state of confusion in which she was, he could see in her her strength and her determination. He was waiting for the right moment to ask her to confirm what he had deduced from the behavior of the young woman : There was someone else of mine, Someone who mattered to her.
- "Why the fuck are you here ?"
sounded a loud voice behind them. She turned back to face a man with a closed face, dressed in a formal black suit, and shrugged at his sight.
- " Do you already know Mc ?"
Alan asked , obviously very annoyed. The FBI was starting to get on his nerves. After all, he hadn't called them, and it was bad enough that they showed up and took over, embarking on an all-out manhunt. Almost all of the city's workforce had been requisitioned to pursue a fugitive of whom he knew nothing.
And now... Looks like they've already interviewed the main witness in Hannah Donfort's case.
- "MC ? You have already become so close? "
Laughed the fed,  and then turning to Alan, he said to him :
- “So it is  useless for me to introduce you to our probie :  Special Agent MARTINS, from the  Cybercrime Office”

In my Fallout Duskwood AU a lot of the technology is more geared to the Fallout side of things (but not 100%)... so I had a thought.
Instead of a program, Jake has an Eyebot named Nymos. Which is just one of the many ways he communicates with the MCs (though mostly with Mac as Mal is a bit more cautious about these things and Jake DID hack his Pipboy so...). So I imagine the introduction of Nymos is way sooner in this AU than in the original Duskwood as I imagined a scene with Mac walking towards where Mal set up camp while Jake gives her the rundown of the situation through the Eyebot/Nymos.
Jake is an escaped Gen 3 Synth in this AU and my Male MC (Mal) is a Ghoul... I'm still deciding what the people of Duskwood's stance would be on those things as they have no idea what those are... they all recently came out of cryosleep thanks to Vault Tec.

Duskwood episode 10
⚠️ might contain spoilers ⚠️
Tumblr media
I just finished the last episode and, for something that has been over two years in the making, both from the Everbyte development team and the player community side... THIS WAS AMAZING 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I low-key wanna write some self-insert fanfiction for this one because I could absolutely see this game being adapted into a drama miniseries for a streaming service. It's so beautifully written and full of red herrings, which I love. The plot twists blew my fucking mind.
Right off the bat, as I mentioned during one of my first playthroughs of the game via Twitter, the disability representation is a fucking mixed bag of weird peanuts and I would very much love to hear from wheelchair users about this.
Let's start my review with criticism, because there are some things I feel that could be improved upon:
Sure, in the final episodes, one of the characters is A FUCKING BADASS in a wheelchair and saves the day, but there are also a little too many dialogue references about how the wheelchair is an impediment which, yes? But also, if you're going to have a disabled character (even if only temporarily), then why not present a more positive depiction of disability? Why not have that character be a disabled person for the whole game and show how he's still a badass? It's 2022, I certainly think that we can do much better if we're going to include disability in our media content.
In my very humble opinion, the ending was a little predictable (we could kinda get hints at how it was going to unfold since episode 8), and the mini-game breaks between story cutscenes take people away the immersion for a little too much time (I feel that the mini-games could be a little more immersive, you know?) but MAN, I'D BE LYING if I didn't tell you I CRIED when I saw the final cutscenes and played the final mini-games. Mostly because one of them sort of mirrors the first mini-games (but with the added difficulty, of course).
There's also the fact that one of the first clues we receive comes from a background character who has a "mental disability" that's never addressed other than being used to infantilize him (to be fair, he is a child or pre-teen, at most) or to call him an "unreliable witness", which was a big yikes for me from the beginning.
The studio apparently, in my opinion, tried to redeem themselves about their disability representation in the more recent episodes. (Please remember that the game was being developed while each episode was released) but I'll still deduct one full point from my overall score because of that. As a neurodivergent person myself, it sucks to be misrepresented CONSTANTLY 🙄 even if it's a trope of the mystery genre, it's tired and we need to retire it.
Richy, Jessie and Jake became my immediate favorite characters since episode 3, so this ending was partially satisfying... Sure, we get a really meaningful text from Jake (if that's the playthrough style you're going for), and we also get to see Jessie react to the actual ending. And Richy's storyline is completed in a really satisfying (yet heartbreaking) way, but what the fuck is up with the rest of the gang?
If you want to know what happens to Cleo, Lilly, and Thomas, BE DAMNED! Because from Episode 8 onwards, they fade into the background, to the point where on this last episode, it felt like the game itself forgot about them as people/characters and other than SOME dialogue from Y/N to them (and a nice conversation with Dan), there's almost zero interaction.
🎶They could have done so much more if they only had timeee🎶 (me, @ the Duskwood development team)
He's a fan favorite and yeah, yeah, we know that the dialogue we get from him on this final episode points out at him being in the next Everbyte game... But he kinda contradicts his own story arc? Back on the first episodes, even if your play style with him isn't actually flirty, he says you're "going to become very important", and even though there's a sweet unlockable dialogue option for him on episode 10 for those who wanted to romance him, the rest of us actually DON'T KNOW why we are important, at the end. Character development for both Jake and Y/N be damned.
I have a feeling that we're going to see more of Alan on the next game, considering the endgame hint we get at a new game taking place in the same universe... But what the fuck happened to Jake? Did he manage to leave [redacted] before the last cutscene?! Again, we have no idea. If this was Everbyte's way to generate expectations for their next game, it's a great marketing strategy, but an awful conclusion to the story arc of Duskwood in general. I don't think it's too respectful towards their own product to use the most meaningful plotline point as a marketing ploy.
Also, if you want to know why Hannah had Y/N's phone number in the first place, which is KINDA pushed by the game as one of the biggest parts of the mystery: Get bent, because we absolutely don't get that on episode 10 and I can only hope that we get some sort of preface related to Duskwood on the next game because otherwise, so many questions are left unanswered... Unless you write fanfiction about them lmao.
Now, onto the things I LOVED about this game:
The interactivity... OMFG, the conversations with the characters are so entertaining. I loved seeing how Y/N was slowly becoming part of the gang and I loved to traverse the "websites" that the players are able to interact with, because they are fucking exquisite.
I especially enjoyed the portion where the player is able to access [redacted]'s phone, because there are so many more apps than the ones needed for the plot, and those were really fun, and I loved to read (and comment!) the web forum of creepy stories that Y/N has to research. Absolutely loved it.
If you're able to splurge a little, I would definitely recommend buying the premium photo pack from the beginning of the game because you'll be able to access SO MUCH MORE CONTENT and not only does it improve immersion in the game, but all that content is actual art by itself.
The photography for this game is actually incredible for a mobile game. When you compare Everbyte's Duskwood with similar games like I Am Innocent by Twinaleblood, for example (though I thought the original study who made the game was Glaznev?), you get visuals that are far more stunning from Everbyte's part. Even though I Am Innocent has amazing black and white photography where the chiaroscuro works to heighten the mood of the game, the visual content doesn't actually get to stand out as much as the photography does on Duskwood.
And the videocalls are done masterfully. The cast of actors did a fucking brilliant job, even though we can clearly see that English might not be their native language, and even though some of them are amateurs like Ivonne Scherer, the artist who plays Jessy, their work on the videos conveys so much emotion. Especial kudos to actor Alex Friedland, who plays a MASTERFUL Richy. I'm looking forward to my next playthrough of this game so I can see more of our re-cast Hannah, Theresia Erfort, because she did an amazing job as Hannah, even though she was brought onto the cast at such a late stage of development.
The extra dialogue options that you can purchase through the aforementioned premium pack give you SO MUCH MORE information about the diegetic universe and they make it absolutely worth it. You're still going to get the plot-worthy info for the sake of game progress, but tbe premium pack dialogue options let you have a peek at the characters as people, beyond the tragedy of losing Hannah, and they let you understand them and their motives a little bit more.
I'd also recommend paying for the heart and credits pack beforehand because even though the mini-games are satisfying and it takes you 2 or 3 attempts (at most) to figure out the gist of their solution, in a way, they are designed more like a gacha, in the sense that sometimes you're going to solve one of puzzles in less than 10 moves, and sometimes you're going to get stuck on a single level for DAYS because the seemingly random piece distribution might not be as random as it seems (after all, mobile games subsist through microtransactions).
The mini-games are idle fun and they ARE entertaining (although they do cut the immersion), but the heart pack is definitely worth buying beforehand if you don't want to bother with the constant microtransactions to replenish hearts and credits mid-play. Especially on those pesky levels where the only solution is to actually pay for more moves.
The general plot of the game also lends itself for roleplaying a character, if that's the play style you're going for. If you want to write and play a character of your own while answering the dialogue, I 100% encourage you to do it, it's a really fun experience and the dialogue options lend themselves pretty well for doing that.
Having to use actual social media to find the clues to advance the plot brought me back to that one Toshiba "interactive film" from 2011 with Emmy Rossum, but this time it was well done and didn't feel like a forced commercial for a shitty laptop.
The Instagram comment sections that players need to solve the clues do spoil some of the story but they help you solve some of the trickiest parts of the game pretty quickly, especially the image-related ones. I hope that Everbyte brings those Instagram mini-games to the table next time and maybe add some another social media to the mix, maybe some YouTube videos to look through. The video feeds and audio files are top tier as well. And Cleo's Instagram stories are so fun to watch as little easter eggs, although I do feel that they could have used better for more referential content towards the game, but her recipes are actually easy and fun to try. Maybe for next installment they could pull a Cicada 3301 on social media and use cryptograms and other cyphers to increase the difficulty? For those of us who nerd out about it, that is. Although I absolutely understand that part of the popularity that this game has had, is precisely because of its simplicity.
The #IAmJake portion of the game is pretty amazing for those of us with an artsy side. I remember I even talked on my Twitter about creating my own OC "Duskwoodsona" to cosplay for my participation, but in the end I decided this was a cringe idea and decided to scratch that, but for those of you out there who want to do cosplay or fanart or fanfiction, this part of the game is absolutely beautiful because it lends itself to those types of participation.
I wish the developers had held some sort of contest or shared more of the #IAmJake campaign as an event of sorts, but at the same time, not having the added pressure of the time limit of an in-game event is pretty good for the replayability value of the game overall. So that's a great point for me, who can't be bothered with time limits.
In conclusion: I give this game a 9/10 and I can't wait to see what Everbyte brings us next.

HEYOOOH! <33
Sooo...I need to do a vent, but i alredy know that people don't mind it. But i wanna try to open myself, even if i barely talk in general about how i feel ^^"""
I I I
V
I've always been afraid, afraid of making a bad impression on me. Only the fic I want to do is taking me longer for fear, I'm afraid that I am disturbing people by asking for help and this makes me feel deeply guilty...I know these people are happy to help me, but I always have this impression that haunts me. I feel like I'm some sort of burden to these people.
----
Well...I think that's all, i didn't want to blaming someone etc...I just feel so about it and just wanted to let off steam a little bit.
Sorry...

If you get this message, someone is telling you that they love you as you are, and they don’t care how many followers you have. Send this to 15 blogs who deserve it. If you break the chain, nothing will happen. But it’s just good to let someone know that you love them. 💛
Hello dear :)
Thank you so much for sending me this chain.
I'm a perfectionist, who set unreachable expectations for myself, and who's constantly doubting.
This chain is yet another way for me to realize that people actually care about me, and about what I have to say, and it means the world to me that you're the one sending it to me.
We don't talk a lot and I can't say I know you well, but I can tell you genuinely care about others and you're not afraid to show it, which makes you someone I care about as well <3

Okay, I know we already had several Duskwood Tumblr Discord servers but as I am informed many of them have run into sand or are no longer active or really known. Maybe I’m wrong, that’s not meant badly, of course.
My question now is: Are you interested that we open a new Discord for the Tumblr Fandom? Not only for Duskwood but also for the new game. But we have a lot of new people here and maybe it would be cool, what do you think?
Of course everyone is welcome. 🥰💚

About Duskwood being in episodes
I was thinking, and I'm glad Duskwood came out for episodes.
It's like a lot of series, which comes out one episode a week.
This increases audience engagement. If Duskwood came out completely, maybe we wouldn't be here talking about it, or maybe we would, but I'm sure it wouldn't be the same way it is today. Maybe it still had things to theory on, but if it was the full game, a lot of things that we theory about would already have their answers.
So Everbyte, I don't think you're going to see this, but I thank you guys for doing this, otherwise our community wouldn't be the same thing, and maybe the game wouldn't have the same magic. You can take your time as I know it will be worth it <3

Some Truths about the Warcraft Frutverse tm that justify Toothpaste's happenstances:
#1 - Warlords didn't happen
Plain simple. After Garrosh was deposed and arrested, he was tried and sentenced to indefinite jail time in Pandaria (with possibility of rehabilitation and then release in the future). There was no dragon shenanigans, no alternate Draenor, nothing.
Instead, the world gets to enjoy at least one or two years of peace before the Legion comes - and they do come, this is important.
(All the while the pandaren monks are trying their best to rehabilitate Garrosh. It's a work in progress - and Y'shaarj left his marks.)
#2 - Everything operates in a much bigger scale than in game.
Now this is something I've talked about before and it should be obvious, but it bears repeating: the world of Azeroth is much, much bigger than in game, from forests to deserts, big cities to small villages.
Orgrimmar is a massive city nestled in a massive desert; the Barrens stretch out endlessly; Undercity and Silvermoon are huge, densely populated capitals; Eversong Woods, the Ghostlands, Tirisfal Glades, Silverpine Forest, all places in the world are huge, just like real world places. Don't get me started on what a huge labyrinthine nightmare all of Stranglethorn Vale is, jungles are quirky like that.
This doesn't apply just to places, but also to people. Relationships, intrigue, politics, take everything we have in game and apply real world scales to it.
#3 - Vol'jin is somewhere between 25 and 27
By the time the story starts, Vol'jin has barely been named Warchief - Toothpaste happens at the heels of Mists of Pandaria, which would make Vol'jin somewhere between 25 and 27 years old depending on how you look at the timeline.
In a similar vein, Gheist is somewhere around 27 and Tyrathan is in his 40s.
#4 - The Vanyst family
Noblemen residing in a small village somewhere in Elwynn Forest. Closest to Duskwood than anywhere else, because I said so, enough so that hunters like Tyrathan shine - someone has to keep an eye on the more hostile wildlife such as wolves and bears. And anything else that might crawl of Duskwood and get a little too close for comfort.
The Vanyst are what I consider to be on a more neutral standing - from what I gathered from Shadows of the Horde, Bolten Vanyst is a man of many schemes, but he would rather be out in a field barking orders than dealing with politics. Bolten's wife, or even Morelan Vanyst might be the ones who are more into the political side of nobility, but overall the Vanyst don't strike me as a particularly meddling type.
That being said, noblemen are scheming rats who worry too much over the wrong things and their supposed neutrality could change with having one of their own involved with the Horde (even if Tyrathan were to have cut ties with the Vanyst by then).
#5 - Tyrathan's family
A wife (ex-wife by the time the story gets going) and four kids, three daughters and one son. His youngest daughter is 4 during SotH, making her to be around that age by the time Toothpaste starts, and his oldest daughter would be a little older than 20, with the other two somewhere in between. I don't know what their names or personalities are just yet but they'll be important to the story.
#6 - Politics
Political relationships in Azeroth are a fascinating thought to entertain, and seeing as the game only touches that in a superficial level, something that I will probably have to improvise. Assume there's channels of communication and some sort of diplomacy in between all the world's factions, but don't expect perfectly cohesive political intrigue in my fluffly feel good fic, that's something I'm gonna have to touch on but it's not my focus.
What I can say tho, is that in canon lore political affairs in Stormwind are very tied to nobility. That caused most if not all of their problems but doesn't seem like it's something that would change overnight.
#7 - The Timeline
Is a mess, to put it lightly. Much as I tried to draw a cohesive timeline for the fic, my brain simply cannot comprehend the absolute clusterfuck that is the Warcraft timeline. Though I try my best, if Blizzard itself cannot keep a consistent timeline, don't expect me to do it either.
All I can say for sure is that there was a two year gap between MoP and Legion.
This covers the important bases - there's more to consider and I might add more items to this post later. For now, here's what we're dealing with :)

"I won't let him hurt you again" Part 3
Jake x fem!Mc
They were found the same day.
Before going to the mine, Mc installed a GPS tracker on her phone and a tracker on the other. So if she had left and not returned to the Motel that night, the second person would have gone to the police and given them her location. That person was Lilly. However, she had difficulty convincing the police to go in search of Mc. So when she finally did, she and a few police officers went to the mine. It also took time to make sure it was safe enough, so they didn't find the missing until late at night.
It was at the same time that the man without a face came to them with a new bag of food, so they caught him red-handed.
The kidnapper turned out to be Hanna's therapist. He tried to convince her of the falsity of old memories in which she saw someone killing poor Jennifer. But when it didn't work out, he prescribed her antidepressants, making Hannah believe that she was really just sick. He didn't want to kill her like the other two girls, because it contradicted his sick beliefs based on an old legend. But he also couldn't let her dig any further, so he kidnapped her when she got too close.
He was arrested.
Some time later, the Duskwood gang threw a party to celebrate the return of Hanna and Mc... And of course, Jake, too. They gathered at the Aurora bar, where Phil had given them the best seat. He was so kind that he even let Cleo and Thomas come along with the others.
"Drinks are on me," he said, winking at Mc.
They all sat down at a large round table, talking loudly and enjoying the fact that the worst was over.
Jake didn't really want to go there. On the one hand, it was an opportunity to make friends that he hadn't had for so long. But on the other... He just wanted to lock himself in his home, with the computer, and feel completely safe. But Mc insisted and even said that the others really wanted to meet him, so he went.
So they all sat together on that beautiful, warm evening and didn't think anything bad. This was after all the kidnapped were released from the hospital, so Hanna and Mc had already told them everything in great detail. And now all the attention was on Jake.
They asked him everything: where he came from and what he likes to do, how he found out that he, Hannah and Lilly are siblings, and so on. And he was willing to answer all the questions, even though he was embarrassed by the amount of attention. MC, who was sitting next to him, was holding Jake's hand. He didn't want to think about the dangers of this relationship, or the fact that the doctor's trial hadn't taken place yet, or that the FBI was looking for him. It was just a good evening and he intended to enjoy it.
Soon the questions to him stopped and the fervor of friends subsided. They had silently accepted Jake into their company and were now talking about other topics.
Soon Phil came over, holding a very beautiful drink.
"For m'lady," he smiled charmingly as he handed a glass to Mc. She looked at him with delight.
"Wow, Phil, it's so pretty. What's that?"
"New recipe. We haven't added it to the menu yet, so you'll be the first to try it."
Jake glared at him and then looked at Mc. Phil had joined them, moving Richy to sit on the other side of Mc, and now they and the rest of the gang were having a nice conversation. Phil was the most active. He spoke loudly and confidently and often people turned to him directly to say something about the topic.
Jessy wasn't much different from her brother. She laughed a lot, chatted incessantly, and people listened attentively, smiling and asking questions.
Hannah made them laugh most of the time. She inserted clever comments everywhere and seemed to be able to keep up a conversation about everything from art to politics.
Mc felt like a fish in water in this company. Of course, she chatted a lot with most of them, but it was as if she had been with the group from the beginning.
Jake often tried to catch the thread of the conversation, to push through it as one might push through a crowd, but in vain. He didn't know anything about the topics they were talking about, and he wasn't sure if anyone was interested in hearing about what he liked. The longer the evening went on, the more alien he felt. He felt like a black sheep and, thanks to his lack of confidence, ignored the moments that refuted it. Instead, he noticed those in which he said something, but for some reason was ignored. Or that the responses to his comments were radically different from those received by his sister. And with each such time, his confidence and cheerfulness evaporated more and more.
He looked at Richy and Lilly. The only other people who didn't talk much and listened a lot. But it didn't seem to bother them at all. Richy was often distracted from the conversation, thinking about something else, and Lilly turned all her attention to her sister, holding her hand and asking if she needed something from time to time. They weren't active participants in the conversation, but they didn't care. They felt comfortable knowing that they were as important a part of the company as anyone else.
Jake didn't feel that way. He wasn't sure they liked him, at least. It was always difficult for him to feel needed by someone. It seemed that the only person who, Jake was absolutely sure, needed him was his mother. But she died a few years ago and Jake was left alone. Until Mc came into his life. To be honest, it took him a very long time to realize that she liked him as a person. And this despite the fact that she often said it directly to him. But he still didn't feel good or interesting enough for her to like him. Especially when Jake saw her interact with the rest of the group. And especially with Jessy. Their communication was more lively and diverse than his and Mc's. Jake blamed himself for that. He often ran away from her as soon as they discussed all the important points about the case, not considering that Mc would be interested in communicating with him on other topics and not wanting to impose. He is used to being the one in the company who always stays behind if there is not enough space on the sidewalk.
But this time, Jake had the hope that he could fit in, find those who appreciate him for who he is. And that hope was fading by the minute.
This, of course, was no one's fault. The friends were so engrossed in conversation that they could hardly notice his condition. And they didn't involve him in the conversation, thinking that he was just one of those who is silent a lot.
And well, it is always very difficult to resist your inner fears.
Jake wanted to calm down a little. Without a word, he got up and left the "Aurora", wondering if anyone would notice his absence.
It was warm and fresh outside, but Jake was hot and stuffy. He wanted to go back to his computer, back to the reality where he felt worth something.
Jake decided to stand there for a few minutes and then go back to Lilly's place. She insisted for that she, Hannah, MC, and Jake live together for a while.
He felt a hand on his shoulder and flinched. Jake turned quickly. Mс stood next to him, looking worried.
"Are you okay, Jake?" She asked. He turned away.
"I'm fine."
He didn't want to talk about his feelings. Jake knew they were pathetic.
"Talk to me, Jake."
He liked it when Mc called him by his first name. On the other hand, she didn't even know his last. The thought unsettled him even more.
"I'm fine. Just tired." He said, perhaps too sharply. Mc grunted and turned him around to face her, looking into his eyes.
"You're a terrible liar, you know that?" Jake was silent. "Why don't you tell me what happened?"
"Because it's stupid! Please, MC, just leave me. I just want to go home, stay with your friends."
"You wanted to say with our friends."
Jake still said nothing. Mc sensed how much he was straining, knew that he wanted to end this conversation as soon as possible, but she didn't let him. Now that they were face to face, he couldn't just run away from her. And she was going to find out what was bothering him.
"Jake. Please."
Jake was silent, and Mc thought he wouldn't answer her, but then she heard his soft voice say:
"I feel superfluous."
Mc frowned.
"Why?"
"I don't know? Because I'm a fool?"
"Don't talk about yourself like that."
"But if it's true? I just come up with problems from scratch, overthink, and then suffer. Isn't that foolish?!"
Jake clenched his fists and turned away again. He wanted to cry. He hated himself at times like this. He hated that he couldn't resist it. He knew that people they won't reach out to him if he doesn't reach out to them, but it was so difficult every time. He was afraid that they would just reject him.
Being alone is better than being rejected.
Jake felt her arms wrap around his torso and Mc pressed her body against his.
"Whatever you feel, it's not foolish. All your feelings and problems are important. And I care. Always remember that."
Jake started to shake, and tears came out of his eyes. Mc loosened her grip, but only enough to face him. She was still holding Jake to her with one hand while she wiped the tears from his cheeks with the other.
"I'm just a fool."
"No, you are not. You're human. We all have our weaknesses, that's normal. You don't have to shut yourself in. Let me help you."
Jake sniffed.
"Forgive me. I've ruined your evening."
Mc smiled.
"That's not true. You made it better with your presence."
Jake closed his eyes, tears continuing to flow down his chin.
"I feel so alone..."
Mc frowned slightly. She cupped Jake's face in both hands and brought it closer to hers.
"You're not alone. Not anymore." She said. "I won't let anyone hurt you again."
Jake finally unclenched his fists and wrapped his arms around her waist, pressing Mc as hard as he could without hurting her. Mc closed her eyes.
They stood there for who knows how long, holding each other tightly, until at some moment Mc shifted her face a little and gently kissed Jake on the cheek, not far from his lips. He opened his eyes to meet her warm gaze and smiled slightly. Jake slowly lowered his mouth to hers. They kissed. It was a tender and full of love first kiss that they will definitely never forget.
It was one of those kisses where souls are entwined in bliss and hearts are opened to plow, making two lovers one.
And they would have stood there kissing each other for ages if they hadn't heard Richy's cheerful voice.
"There you are, lovebirds!"
Jake and Mc slowly pulled away from each other, but didn't stop hugging.
"Always on time, Richy," Mc said, but without a trace of anger. She looked at her friend and a sparkle shone in her eyes, "Tell the others we'll be right back."
"Whatever you say! Just don't stay here too long, Dan and I wanted to talk to you about something, Jake."
"To me?" Asked Jake, amazed, "About computers?"
"No, of course not!" Richy laughed, "We want to have a bachelor party and we need your opinion! Dan says it's better to go to the bar, but I told him that after that car accident, it's not the best idea..."
"We get it, Richy," Mc giggled. She and Jake were still clinging to each other.
"Oh yes! I'm sorry! Adios!" With a chuckle, he disappeared back into the bar.
Jake and Mc turned back to each other. He could feel peace spreading through his body. The tears stopped long ago.
"So," Mc grinned slyly, "Where were we?"
Jake smiled and kissed her again.
