ok so the suitor squad (1) proposed on the same day to the same woman and (2) are literally best friends who almost certainly have known each other longer than any of them have known lucy. this leaves us with a few possibilities:
the fact that they all proposed on the same day was completely by coincidence. funny in terms of them all reaching the same conclusion that may 25 was The Day, but otherwise kind of a boring option. also very unrealistic. next please
they all decided to just Wing It on the same day. all's fair in love and war. whoever got there first and got a yes was going to marry lucy. good luck boys. let the hunger games begin
they planned this VERY deliberately. they knew jack would go first, then quincey, then arthur, assuming she didn't say yes to a proposal before all three men had a chance to propose. this option implies that they themselves, The Boyfriends, knew that jack had the least chance of success and arthur had the most likely positive outcome. (which is the correct assessment, but also.... sorry jack.) also implies that both jack and quincey had to send a message to the group chat along the lines of "no dice. good luck art let's go buddy"
my personal favorite: they did not realize that all three of them were courting the same woman, and in Bro Solidarity decided to propose on the same day to their three individual girlfriends. unfortunately there was only one collective girlfriend. c'est la vie

a family does not need to be a husband a wife 2.5 kids and a white picket fence. A family can instead be a solicitor unable to pick up on context clues who spends every waking moment chugging his “love my wife” juice, his wife who has recently begun the process of becoming a vampire but has not let that stop her from being a genius at making connections and compiling written and recorded accounts, her (chosen) brother who is a newly minted lord who had to stab his fiancé in the heart in her coffin in the middle of the night because she was turned into a vampire, a doctor running an insane asylum who lets his star live-animal-eating-patient loose just to see what he’ll do, a doctor from amsterdam who was supposed to be here for like two days but possesses an unusually vast knowledge of vampires and vampirism, and a cowboy from texas. and they’ve all recently taken up vampire hunting as a hobby. and they all gathered together like a week ago and they would all literally kill and die for each other. and they are so valid.

If I was to do an adaption of Dracula, I am going to include Quincy Morris, and he will be completely incomprehensible. If I cannot understand what this man is saying on the page, the audience will not be able to understand him on screen. This man is walking cow metaphors with one of the worst transcribed accents I have ever seen – he will be treated like Chewbacca or Groot. Only Seward and Holmwood will have any idea what the fuck he's saying.
QUINCY – *Nonsensical cowboy noises*
DR SEWARD – Good god Quincy, you’re right!

Dr Jack Seward: So I mean like do you think it was the size of the asylum, the playing with the knife or the sitting on the hat that put her off in the end?

Dracula is the first modern archetypal zombie apocalypse story.
I don’t know if it’s already been said but Wikipedia hasn’t said it so I think I have a right to make my case.
It’s a story about undead monsters that want to take over the world by turning people into fellow undead monsters through a bite.
It’s a story about a doctor, a strange scientist, a couple, a guy who’s mourning his girlfriend (and motivated by revenge) and a cowboy fighting said undead force.
Like anyone who’s read Dracula knows it’s more of a group dynamic type book than an actual scary piece of Victorian literature (I read a few Victorian era horror stories, needless to say I did not sleep well for a week or two). It’s about these rag-tag idiots fighting evil because they’re the good guys.
Mina even has that whole cliche “I’ve been bitten and now I’m slowly turning.” thing going on.
So you decide, am I onto something or just losing my absolute marbles.

The July 20th entry is an absolutely feral passage, and I'll explain why. There's Dr Seward, watching Renfield start catching his flies again, and we know all these disgusting awful dark thoughts are brewing in his head implicitly comparing watching Renfield's madness progress to the vivisection of animals but also in a very real way Dr Seward is looking on Renfield with envy in his heart. Renfield is more cheerful at peace and firm in his purpose than Seward has had in a long long time and he wishes he could feel that.
There is also the fact that whatever Renfield's feelings around his rituals... they're not good for him. His peace and purpose is around a lifelong delusion of his which presumably is why he was committed in the first place and is responsible for the loss of all his freedom, and yet in this moment it is making him happy.
I don't have a conclusion to this but if I could draw I would draw Seward looking in on Renfield laying out his sugar on the windowsill. It is a snapshot of two deeply fucked up people living and feeling and making themselves worse in real time.

The flies are eating half the man's food and the spiders are eating most of said flies and somehow Dr. Seward doesn't think to call someone in to fumigate. He is running an unsanitarium.

for context: today's entry (june 30) is the end of chapter 4 of dracula as it's ordered in every print copy. "good-bye, all! mina!" is the last we hear of jonathan harker for a HOT minute; the first 4 chapters follow him exclusively, but chapter 5 switches over to the Greater London Polycule and contains all of the entries we've already read about mina, lucy, and the suitor squad.
we've all gotten the benefit of the slow build to this climax and the juxtaposition of jonathan in the Horror Plot and everyone else in the Romance Plot (+ jack and renfield doing... whatever you would call their interactions) but it's important to remember that anyone reading this book for the first time as it's printed (not chronologically as drac daily) spends a full chapter hanging out with jonathan, watching him slowly realize the gravity of his situation, sees his desperation, feels his fear and uncertainty as he scales the wall of the castle in a fleeting attempt to escape certain death...... and is then introduced to SIX NEW CHARACTERS in an ENTIRELY UNRELATED STORY ARC without knowing what happens to him. it's drama it's intrigue it's a little bit genius and, for all the benefits that the format of drac daily gives the narrative, i'm a bit sad that we miss that

Daily Dracula is so fun because it turns out I don’t know shit about Dracula.
Who is this spider man? A friend, that’s who.
Is my poor Jonathan Harker going to die horribly? It sure seems that way, but hell if I know!
Are Lucy’s boys going to run over here and save everyone? Is Dracula going to come to London? Nobody knows! It’s not like this is a classic novel that’s been in public domain for hundreds of years.
Anyway, shout-out to people who were Dracula fans before this whole thing, I’m sure you’re having a blast watching us go in blind.
