“What's up with your guitar?” Daniel asked.

“What's up with your cane?” Wilbur retorted, his tone being a mix of anger and preoccupation. RT couldn't say anything to refute, nervously looking around the only room in their stupid, little, half-blown up house.

Eye contact made his skin crawl, but looking into Will's eyes as he helped him get up was inevitable – he saw the yellow tint give a honey coloring to the formerly dark brown orbs, the remains of gunpowder in his cheeks and his hair a mess, dirt and a bit of wood chips dangling from his curls. This was the only moment where Daniel could feel bad about his entire character and demeanor in that lifetime, the fact Wilbur suffered the consequences of actions that weren't even his own. Once, the shine in the taller man's eyes would've made him giggle to himself, the thought that Wilbur could be pretty in every version of himself being a constant one that proved itself right over and over again, but right now, the meaning being a step closer to his death made shame plague his mind.

Being soulbound wasn't something they had been yet, despite the many galaxies RT had found him on.

“Here, I'll help you. We have to rebuild the house”, he lift his partner up, nervously watching every movement he made. The cane RT used for mobility was now in a worse state, with fluorescent purple cracks around it, and the user himself didn't look quite good either, skin more pale than the usual – from these details and overprotection kicking in, Wilbur was able to hold Daniel when he almost crashed down upon getting up, his balance clearly worse now. “Wwwoah there- shit- I'm here, don't worry.”

And for a second, RT mourned Wilbur again. He'd never doubt something like that, since he had never broken that promise in the past few lives they had together. He was there.

He never promised forever, so whenever he passed away and left Dan behind, he wouldn't blame him. They were never an until death do us part type of pair, but an until the end of the line.

“I know you are.”

Sweet mercy that he wouldn't have time to mourn his absence in this lifetime, but a shame he, himself, was the death to do them apart.
