According to Third Rail Studios, which is part of the Doraville complex, the “iconic” tower component is expected to be finished and lit up soon. It stands 140 feet tall (nearly three times the height of Marietta’s famed Big Chicken, another WTF roadside landmark) and 23-feet wide.
A bus stop in Doraville, GA shows how we’re failing to support transit riders
We need DOTs, cities, and business owners to all get on the same page and support bus ridership with great pedestrian experiences.
Industrial Way in Doraville, GA was recently resurfaced (this is outside the Super H Mart and Brandsmart). But there's no pavement or sidewalk for pedestrians at the MARTA bus stop, and no legal crossing here for bus riders. And that’s unacceptable.
This, despite the 2021 Doraville mobility plan mentioning a need for pedestrian safety here. These plans need to mean something, and bus ridership needs to be invested in.
If the intention is for bus riders to walk way the heck down to Peachtree Industrial Boulevard just to legally cross Motors Industrial Way and get to their jobs and shops on the other side, then yes a sidewalk is needed.
In this image of the aerial view of this place, you can see the bus stops in the top, right.
But that's an insane thing to do to a pedestrian, making them walk that far to cross a road, and preferably a crossing will get put here.
You're probably thinking: "a bus stop inside the shopping center would be better for pedestrians." And I agree.
But I assume that's not MARTA's call -- they'd likely need permission from the property owner to put a bus stop on the private road that runs alongside H Mart.
Essentially, we need GDOT and Doraville and business owners to all get on the same page when it comes to supporting bus ridership, by providing excellent pedestrian experiences.
Kudos to Doraville Councilman Andy Yeoman, who tells me that he'll look into this.
(Also, apologies for the goofy double negative in my graphic -- "no 🚷 allowed sign" makes no sense, but hopefully the point comes across.)
The night she disappeared, Susana had left her home in Norcross at 6 p.m. and walked a short distance to the Sterling Glen Apartments, where she met with a friend for about four hours. She headed home at about 10 p.m.
[...]
McClure said that it’s not known whether Susana and Bryant knew each other or were familiar with each other but that he did live in the Sterling Glen Apartments complex she had visited that day and served as a courtesy officer there.
Why was he allowed to serve as a 'courtesy officer' at an apartment complex after being FIRED from being an actual police officer? This is why you don't let shit slide because why let him serve as a courtesy officer at an apartment complex when TWICE he had incidents of breaking and entering residences?

DUNWDOOY, Ga. - He claims he is a priest, gains the trust of women, and then brutally assaults them, Dunwoody police say.
Marco Aries Johnson, 46, is wanted for rape by the Dunwoody Police Department. He frequents the north DeKalb County area having been seen in area of Chamblee, Doraville, and Dunwoody.
Johnson drives a black Toyota Camry with the Georgia tag CCQ3983, police say.
Investigators say Johnson will drive up next to a woman walking or waiting for a bus. He will then talk to them, gaining their confidence by explaining he’s a "priest of EFY religion and a spiritual reader." He will then offer them a ride, but instead of going to where the woman wants to go, police say he will take them to an apartment in Dunwoody. It is there where investigators say Johnson will then beat and sexually assault them.
Police describe Johnson as being 5-feet-7-inches tall, weighing about 170 pounds, with black hair, and brown eyes. He was last seen with a beard.
It is not clear how many times Johnson has done this, but police say they are looking for other possible victims. More importantly, police are searching for Johnson himself. Anyone who sees him is asked to call 911 immediately. Anyone with information in the case should call Detective Ehlbeck at 678-382-6925.
at the end of the day everyone just needs to move to atlanta. it's the only decent city. let's nuke california and nyc and all live in peace and love in like fucking doraville
Buckner & Garcia - Pac-Man Fever (Columbia, 1982) - Designed by John Berg, Photograph by David Kennedy
Looks like it's just a photo from a Pac-Man arcade cabinet. Nothing to see here, folks (just kidding!).
Some Atlanta roots for this one: Buckner & Garcia were doing some odd jobs here and then one day while having dinner at a restaurant they saw a crowd of people around a Pac-Man machine. They had never heard of the game before and decided to see what the fuss was about, playing the game for two hours uninterrupted (I could never play for that long). That's when they wrote and recorded "Pac-Man Fever" at Doraville's Studio One. Star 94 (WSTR-FM) played the song as a joke one day and the station was immediately bombarded with calls to play the song again, and again, and again. CBS got wind of the craziness in Atlanta and signed the duo to bring the song (along with a few other joke songs about other video games they played) to the national airwaves. The result? A single that hit no. 9 on the Hot 100 and an album that sold more than a million copies by January 1983. Not bad.
The original album is sadly no longer in print. CBS never released the album on CD and Sony Music, current owners of Columbia, has no interest in any re-release at the moment (probably because of all the video game franchise licenses they'd have to clear). B&G actually tried to help Sony get the album out on CD but were turned down, leading to them making a re-recorded version of the album in 1999 that's now currently in circulation (SiriusXM radio still plays the original recording of "Pac-Man Fever" on occasion, however). One way to tell which is which? The re-recording uses a cleaner photograph of Pac-Man and has the message "Re-recorded by the original artists". Be careful.
atlanta suburbs to consider for vi to move to in feb 2023 as noted by a native alabama transplant that lived in atlanta recently:
roswell / weird. kind of just a conglomerate of businesses and none of them are local. city planning is a nightmare.
alpharetta / roswell’s neighbor. it’s nice enough but the luxury apartments are in weird places. like across the street from weave / wig stores and shitty mechanics and low rate loan spots. and pizza hut.
sandy springs / just weird. looks like it was made in the sims 2.
cumming / LOLLLLLLLL.
buckhead / a lot of politic-ing going on there! a lot of racist white people too. it’s very expensive and a lot of celebs of all ethnicities live there, but the drama surrounding it is not cute.
duluth / h-mart is there and koreatown so how could he lose??? he’ll probably end up here.
doraville / rly neat... Ethnic™ and interesting. for the poc, by the poc.
john’s creek / why did over 100 dead geese end up on multiple lawns here overnight that one time? that’s really weird. rich peopel are here but still wtf.
