Your First Kiss With Dick Grayson
Tumblr media
Dick Grayson x Gender Neutral Reader
Summary:
The Titans have faced a lot together, but never something quite as troubling as the possible return of an inter-dimensional demon that shreds apart worlds and leaves nothing standing in its wake.
You hate to admit it, but even standing with your team - you're afraid. Dick tries his best to comfort you, but for once during his career as noble, selfless team leader - he takes a moment to be selfish, and does something that he has been avoiding doing for years.
Dick Grayson x Gender Neutral Reader. Childhood Friends to Lovers. Angst and Fluff. Set during Season 4, Episode 6.
Word Count: 2,900

Detailed warnings and author's notes below the cut.
Warnings: this one is a bit more on the angsty side; this fic features major spoilers for season 4 (and for the majority of the show) - so if you're watching it for the first time or you haven't seen it yet and you want to watch it spoiler free, then avoid this fic for now; the reader character is completely gender neutral - the only pronouns used for the reader are you/yours; the reader is one of the original Titans; the reader and Dick are childhood friends through the Justice League - the reader is the adoptive child of Oliver Queen/Green Arrow (the reader is a talented marksman and trained in combat); the reader is mentioned to be an orphan (again, aren't all good superheroes); major pining from Dick - he has had a crush on the reader since they were kids (most of this is from his POV, so it's not specified if the reader has returned his feelings for just as long); mentions of canon character deaths; a lot of this is from Dick's POV so - warnings for Dick being emotionally constipated and referring to romantic feelings as a 'disease'; this is an AU where Dickkory never happened; mentions of canon violence - not described in graphic detail; mentions of the apocalypse/the world ending (and the anxiety this can cause); the reader is feeling extreme fear/anxiety due to the possible end of the world; technically - unresolved pining. I believe that's it.
A/N: The second part of the First Kiss series! I had a lot of fun with this one. This is the first really romantic fic I have written for Dick, and I enjoyed it so much omg. I was so tempted to write an enemies to lovers version with him, because he annoys me so much in the canon, and I feel like 'kissing in the middle of a heated argument' would work so well with his character - but maybe we'll save that one for Jason (or Hank, idk). instead, I went with emotionally constipated Dick Grayson, because that is sooo canon. he would not admit his feelings for someone if he had a gun to his head. and I had a lot of fun writing this mostly from his POV. I feel like he is such an interesting POV character to work with, so I might do more from him in the future. anyway, please enjoy!!
...
Stress.
There were few other words to describe the horrible feeling that was dense in the air around them.
Everyone was looking to Dick for answers, and unfortunately, he had none. Sebastian was missing, likely kidnapped by Mother Mayhem in order to complete a ritual that would likely mean the end of the world. Rachel had lost her powers and the Titans needed her unique form of magic now more than ever. Tim was impatient, annoyed because Dick wasn’t letting him use the minimal training that he had. But of course, Dick was hesitant to let the next would-be Robin off the bench after what had happened to Jason.
(Dick could barely bring himself to think about Jason these days.)
Kory was having difficulty controlling her newfound powers, and so was Gar. Which left the team weakened on all sides. Jinx was helpful on the magic front, but she was far from easy to control when it came to executing plans and corralling her rather wild personality.
And Dick didn’t even want to think about what was happening with Conner. He just had to pray that this whole shaved-head, Lex Luthor impression was part of his mourning for his would-be father, and hopefully - it would be temporary.
All of the chaos among the team left Dick leaning on you. As usual, you were likely the only person on the team who wasn’t experiencing any extreme drama. You were the only Titan with some true stability.
And you were the person on the team with the most experience. Even more than Dick himself. Beyond being part of the original Titans team that had helped to found The Tower, you had been trained under Oliver Queen, who was part of the Justice League as Green Arrow. Ollie had taken you on as his own child when your parents died and left him as your carer in their will. Naturally, early into your childhood, he had started training you in the art of combat and marksmanship - so you grew up with intense skill.
You and Dick met soon after he was adopted by Bruce. And much like Donna, you were a kind face and a wise voice that kept him mentally grounded well into adulthood. But you were also someone mischievous that made him smile; someone he could always turn to for a well timed laugh.
You always kept him sane.
And very much unlike Donna - soon after he met you, Dick started to develop feelings for you.
Of course, back then, it was just a silly crush. When he told Donna about it at the time, she laughed. And when he had hidden his face in embarrassment, she then told him that it was ‘cute’. She told him that you two would be good together when you got older. So naturally, Dick took her words as biblically concrete advice.
He decided that he should wait for you. That the two of you would be good together when you got older.
So he waited.
And he waited. And eventually - life got in the way.
He had a huge falling out with Bruce, things at the Tower went south. It was never the right time to tell you. How the hell could he tell his best friend that he had those big, terrifying feelings mounting inside of him, worsening each year like a disease?
It was never the right time to tell you because he was dodging disasters left and right and he needed you more as a friend than as a lover. He needed you as a brick wall to lean on. He needed you as that voice of common sense in his ear - the leader’s loyal first mate, giving him advice behind the curtain and keeping his head on straight.
He didn’t need to tell you about his awful, festering feelings and have you gone from his life too.
When Garth died, and then Jericho died and the Tower shuddered, it still didn't feel like the right time. Wounds were tender and even if you were never downright angry at him like everyone else was - you needed your space. Dick respected that.
That day, you stood at the mouth of the elevator, about to leave for Star City to go and lick your emotional wounds at Ollie’s for a while, and you looked at Dick with tears in your eyes - looked at him like you were waiting for him to say it. But it wasn’t the right time.
He still thought about you every single day when he was in Detroit. And then - he showed up at your door with a scared little girl, needing more advice, needing that brick wall again. It was only natural that when chaos found him, he needed your help.
He hated that your advice was to call in Dawn and Hank. He relied on you, and you relied on family. And he hated that they were waiting at your apartment, called against his will once he had left to do some more sleuthing.
But he found that you were right when he saw how Dawn bonded with Rachel, when Hank put up a vicious fight against those strangers who came to collect her in the name of her father.
Watching you get thrown off that roof sent Dick’s heart through his stomach. As he clung onto the rooftop with his fingers and the muscles of his arm burned, all he could think about was you. As you sputtered out blood and he cradled your head, unsure of how to help you, terror gripped him in a way that it never had before in his life, because he realized that he might actually lose the most important person in his life.
As you lay in the hospital, a set of machines barely keeping you alive, with Dawn loyally holding your hand in comfort and Hank seething to get revenge on the people who had hurt you - Dick ached with regret and not having told you.
Still, when you showed up at that house in Ohio, somehow magically awakened from your near death by Rachel's powers - Dick felt that it just wasn't the right time. He swallowed his regrets like ash in his mouth when he reunited with you, hugged you tight. He didn’t even consider telling you about his feelings to be on the radar of possibility.
When you came back to the Tower to help bring in Doctor Light - it just wasn't the right time. When you showed up in Gotham to help bring down Red Hood - it just wasn't the right time.
Even when Dick died and was brought back to life by some strange magical pit, a pool of waters that brought him dreams of a far off life with you - it still wasn’t the right time.
You were there to Dick's call, loyal and waiting, every single time. You looked at him with as much love and longing in your eyes as he needed (at least, according to Dawn and Donna you did) - but still, it never felt like the right time.
It never felt like the right time to destabilize his entire life by uprooting the one good friendship he had. It never felt like the right time to truly fuck things up with you.
Now, because of some cult that Dick believed to be long gone and a stupid blood ritual, the world was ending, and it still didn't feel like the right time.
He wasn't the son of a demon from another dimension, but he still felt cursed.
When Dick saw you slip out of the room, clearly trying to sneak away from the group, his stomach twisted with nerves. It was rare that you of all people cracked under the pressure. It was rare that you needed to escape from the madness for a breath. He mumbled an excuse to Kory and then chased after you, knowing that it wouldn't be hard to tell where he was truly going - but truthfully, he didn’t care.
He easily caught you in one of the late night deserted halls of STAR Labs.
The many glass walls overlooked the city - a collection of bright lights that made up Metropolis. Thousands of people that you never knew, that you had never met before. People that all seemed too important now as you contemplated their lives; thought about the fact that you might not be able to save them.
Dick saw the sickly look on your face, the glassy sheen of guilt in your eyes even from far off as you leaned on the polished titanium railing that separated the upper floors from the atrium. His footsteps echoed in the empty hall and you heard him approaching from far off. He made no effort to sneak up on you or conceal himself, not wanting to startle you when you were already in such a distressed state.
The minute you looked over your shoulder and saw him, your face broke from that dark, doomed frown into a haste smile, and you reached up to wipe away your tears, attempting to be subtle with that motion. You were trying to hide yourself from him.
Dick came to stand beside you, resisting the urge to pull you into his arms. He desperately wanted to shelter you away from any fear you might be feeling. Maybe it was selfish; wanting to hold you, wanting to protect you from anything in the world that could possibly harm you. Maybe it was downright idiotic - because realistically, he knew that couldn't protect you from this kind of harm. He couldn’t protect you from the world ending.
“Y/N-” Dick murmured your name gently, clutching a fist tightly by his side to resist the urge to reach out and soothe a hand over the trembling muscles of your jaw.
You were holding in a sob, and it came out as a harsh, sarcastic laugh instead.
“I know.” You said. “I know. You're doing that Team Leader Guy Thing.”
You tried to make it sound playful and joking, but with your voice wet and soaked with worry and fear, it came off as a pathetic bid to deflect.
Dick wasn’t sure how to reply. Because yes, he was doing that ‘Team Leader Guy Thing’. He was trying his best to, anyway.
“You're gonna ask ‘are you okay?’ and I'm gonna lie and say ‘I'm fine, boss. All good.’” You continued.
At least you were being straightforward about it being a lie.
Dick wished that he had something genuinely helpful to say, but his throat stalled with dryness and his chest ached at seeing you so distraught. It really wasn’t something that he was used to.
“I mean, it's not like it's the end of the world.” You let out another dry, sarcastic laugh.
Then, there was a moment of silence - a beat of realization as your chin quivered and more thick tears rimmed your eyes.
“It's - it's only the end of the world.” You spoke these words heavier, dropping any false laughter in your tone - it truly hit you. Any further jokes you could make left you.
Dick choked on his own tears when he heard the aborted sob in your chest - something that came out as a whimper when you reached up to clutch at your heart.
You were genuinely terrified. Terrified that the Titans wouldn’t be able to find a solution in time. Terrified that everyone was going to die. Not just the people you loved, but - everyone.
“Hey, come on.” Dick said, his leader instincts, his natural caring for you kicking in. “We've been through worse.”
Working with the Titans, you had been through a lot. Drug busts, battling against costumed psychopaths, the loss of a dear friend to a dangerous assassin. But you weren’t sure that you had been through something worse than this. Everything the Titans had been through had never affected the world on such a large scale.
“Have we?” You argued gently.
Perhaps not. Maybe the only time the team had been in such dire straits was the first time Trigon attempted to come to earth. But that had been when Rachel had been armed with her powers and had been prepared to take him down. But Dick wasn't going to voice those thoughts to you.
You waited in agony for him to say something, and your tears finally breached - rolling down your face in hot tracks, laying marks of the true fear you were feeling, laying it all bare for the first time. Dick knew that his own eyes reflected that same glossy hurt now, if only for the pain he felt in seeing you cry - something that was so incredibly rare over the time he had known you.
Dick reached out and gently cupped the side of your cheek, running his thumb across your face and wiping some of those tears away. You were so startled by the tenderness of the touch that you couldn't help but to let out a whimper, and you felt frozen as Dick spoke his next words.
“It's gonna be okay.” He told you, trying his hardest to sound confident in the words. “We're gonna get through this. I know we will.”
This time, unlike many before, you couldn't be inspired by his confidence.
“Have you - have you considered what happens if we don't?” Your voice barely reached above a whisper, barely daring to tempt fate with this possibility.
Honestly, Dick had not. In these kinds of situations, he didn't allow himself to focus too much on the negative. As the team leader, he did have to take all the possibilities into account. It was something he had to do in order to keep everyone safe. But if he focused too much on death and darkness, much like Bruce did, then he knew that paranoia would overtake him and his team would get caught in the crossfire.
He had to spend his time coming up with solutions to fix the problem rather than spending his time caught up in knots, worrying about what would happen if he fumbled and didn't actually fix things after all.
The literal end of the world? It just wasn't a possibility in this mind.
But right now, standing there, staring into your big eyes, glossed over with fear as you looked to him for answers - there was only one thing that Dick could think of.
And it was so incredibly selfish. It didn’t have anything to do with the team or being a good leader. It didn’t have anything to do with helping the others.
Dick brushed his thumb over your cheek again, an incredibly tentative touch that had your skin tingling. You let out a small sigh, and the world froze around you when he leaned in - slowly, moving toward you at a pace that more than gave you time to escape if you wanted to. But you found that you didn’t want to. You found his closeness to be an incredible comfort in these moments of mental chaos.
And so, he gently planted his lips on yours.
It should have come as a shock - your childhood best friend kissing you. But in that moment, it just felt right. All you could do was shut your eyes and lean into the kiss, reaching up to grip his wrist, keeping him close to you as you leaned into his smothering heat. His lips were surprisingly soft, and he tasted like coffee - using caffeine to keep himself awake for days, trying to marathon a solution against the impending doom.
His kiss was firm but so giving - a touch that easily swallowed you up with heat from the top of your head all the way down to your toes. It was a sensation that pushed out the rest of the world, smothered any worries about who or what might bring an end to it.
It was the most tender, but most wonderfully passionate kiss that you had ever experienced in your life.
When he pulled away, you sucked in a sharp breath, suddenly feeling incomplete without his lips on yours. The shock then began to set in, like pulling the knife from a stab wound and feeling the blood rush out of you freely. It created a dizzying mixture with the heat that was now boiling under your skin.
Why? Your brain screamed out as you stared at him. When? How long had he wanted to kiss you? How long had you been missing out on Dick Grayson?
Dick could see all those questions bubbling beneath your surface as the fear in your eyes shifted to confusion, and he finally decided to speak.
“I'm sorry.” He said quietly. “But if the world does end, I couldn't die without knowing what kissing you is like.”
“Dick-” You sighed, about to go on a long rant about how he could have done that years ago, about how he should have - and the end of the world was a shitty excuse.
But you abruptly cut off your own words when more footsteps squeaked down the hall - the rubber soles of sneakers scuffing against the polished floor.
Dick jumped away from you as though he had been burned, clearly wanting to keep the interaction private. Both of you tuned to see Gar approaching.
“Dick?” He posed. Gar had a look of confusion, clearly wondering if he should question what was going on between the two of you but swallowing it.
“Yeah?” Dick replied.
“Um - Conner's missing.” He announced this in a nervous, meek tone, not wanting to bring the team leader any more bad news.
“What?” Dick gaped.
There was no time to further discuss what Dick had said to you. With the end of the world in your hands, it easily fell to the back of your mind.

Like Brothers Part 2
A Reverse Batfamily Fic
Summary: Dick continues to try to be like his brothers. This can result in both positive and negative feelings.
Tumblr media
Jason read a lot of books, Dick noted.
His older brother didn’t seem to discriminate between what he read either. It felt like every time Dick saw him, he had a new book in his hand. Dick noted everything from Goosebumps, to YA novels, to more of what Jason called “the classics.”
Dick had read a few of the books that he had seen Jason with at some point, like Magic Treehouse and Nancy Drew, but Dick wasn’t sure what the appeal was of the bigger books that Jason read. They looked pretty boring, with no pictures and fancy words. But Jason seemed to enjoy them, so maybe they were fun?
He had overheard Alfred telling Bruce that Dick needed a hobby other than being Robin. Reading was a hobby, wasn’t it? Maybe he should see what all the fuss was about.
There was just one problem.
“Jay? What does ‘chastised’ mean?”
Dick stared up at his brother and pointed at the word in his book. Normally, Dick would go to Tim for questions about English words, but Jason was the expert at reading, so maybe he should have been going to his youngest older brother all along.
Jason glanced away from his homework and over at Dick, eyebrows shooting up in surprise to see the book he was reading last week in his younger brother’s hand. “Uh, to scold someone.”
“What does ‘scold’ mean?”
“Uh…basically telling someone that what they just did or said was bad.”
“Ohhh! Okay! Thanks, Jay!” Dick ran in for a quick hug before skipping away, nose buried in the book.
Jason blinked, momentarily forgetting his homework as he stared after Dick. He preened to himself after a moment, realizing that Dick had come to him for a question. Dick was unaware (or at least they believed he was unaware), but there was an ongoing competition between his siblings for who the youngest went to the most each month for advice or questions or comfort after a nightmare. Usually, Damian or Tim would be in the lead, but it seems like Jason might start moving up the board.
Jason grinned to himself and turned back to his homework. This would definitely be something to rub in Tim’s face later.
Tumblr media
Later came a lot sooner than Jason expected.
“Jay? What does ‘in-num-ray-bil’ mean?”
Quiet enveloped the living room as all chatter ceased. Tim’s head turned so fast from where he had been talking to Steph that Jason swore he heard something crack. Jason opened his mouth to answer, a smirk growing on his parted lips as he looked at Tim when said brother interrupted.
“Do you mean ‘innumerable,’ Dick? It means that there’s too many to count.”
Dick frowned at the teen. “I was asking Jay, Timmy. It’s rude to interrupt.”
Steph barked out a laugh before clapping a hand over her mouth. Cass, who sat next to her on the couch, smacked her shoulder in admonishment, though she too was fighting to keep a smile off her face. Even Damian’s lips twitched. It was always entertaining to see Timothy being knocked down a peg.
Tim was gobsmacked. “Um, right…Sorry, Dick.”
“Sorry, Jason.”
Now, Tim was gritting his teeth. “Right. Sorry, Jason.”
“You’re forgiven.” Jason shot Tim a smirk and turned to Dick. “It’s pronounced ‘innumerable’ and it means that there’s too many to count.”
Even Damian, who was sitting in an armchair with a book, couldn’t help but snort. Stephanie’s hand was the only thing keeping Tim on the couch.
“Thanks, Jay!” Dick said brightly. He went over to Damian and crawled into the man’s lap to continue reading his book. The older man rolled his eyes but said nothing.
Jason could feel Tim’s glare and knew that he’d be answering for the supposed transgression in training, but it was totally worth it.
He stuck his tongue out at Tim for good measure, though.
Tumblr media
And that was how it went for the next couple of weeks. Dick would go to Jason to ask him a question about a word or phrase, and Jason would answer, shooting Tim a smirk or grin if the teen was in the room too. If he wasn’t, Jason would text him about it. He could tell it was getting under Tim’s skin, and Jason was taking great pleasure in it.
One night, Jason saw Tim leaving Dick’s room. Jason opened his mouth to make another jab when he noticed the dejected look on Tim’s face. His head and shoulders were hanging lower as well, and Jason frowned. “Tim?”
Jason saw Tim tense, but the older boy did not stop and continued walking back to his room. “Not now, Jason.”
Jason followed after him. “No, seriously. What’s wrong? Is something wrong with Dick?”
“I don’t know. Is there?” Jason faltered as Tim turned a glare towards him. “You two seem to be BFFs recently.”
“What?”
Tim let out a harsh breath and pinched the bridge of his nose. “Dick stopped asking me to read to him before bed. He said something about needing to read alone.” He sent another glare Jason’s way. “Did you say something? I don’t know what I did to you, but you didn’t have to turn Dick against me—”
“Whoa, what? I didn’t do anything!” Jason felt a pang in his chest at being accused by his brother and took an involuntary step back.
“No? Then why is he suddenly going to you all the time for help with words? I’m the one that’s been helping him with his English. He used to come to me for that. He used to ask me to read to him at night, but he started without me tonight, and it’s—it’s like he wants nothing to do with me anymore.”
“Maybe he’s just getting older?”
“No. He goes to you now. I wouldn’t be surprised if he starts asking you to read to him.” Tim let out another harsh sigh and stalked off, throwing back, “Just…leave me alone.”
Jason stood in the hall, watching Tim storm away. Tears pricked at his eyes, never having been chastised like that by his older brother. Did Tim hate him now?
This wasn’t fun anymore. Jason needed to find out what was going on with Dick. He knew he didn’t start whatever this was, and he sure as hell wasn’t going to get blamed for it.
Jason peeked his head into Dick’s room and found his younger brother sitting up in bed, reading the latest Warrior Cats book that Tim had previously been reading to him. Dick looked up and beamed when he saw Jason.
“Jay! Perfect! What’s a rah-vine?”
Jason gave a hesitant smile back and walked into the room, sitting next Dick on his bed. “It’s pronounced ‘rah-veen’, and it’s like a valley with really tall cliffs on either side of it.”
“Oh! Thanks, Jay!”
Dick went back to reading. Jason watched him for a moment, biting his lip. Finally, he spoke up, “Dick, if you’re struggling with these words, it might be easier to step down a bit and then work your way back up.”
Dick looked up, blinking in confusion. “What?”
“You’re always asking about what words mean. I’m really happy that you’re trying to learn and reading lots of books, but it’s not so fun to read when you don’t know what words mean, you know?”
“Oh.” Dick looked back down, hiding his face as much as he could with his hair. He refused to look at Jason as he asked, “Is it really annoying?”
“What?” Jason leaned back in shock. “No! Of course not! I just know that reading was never fun for me when I didn’t know what was going on.”
“But you’re always reading! You always know what’s going on!”
A lightbulb went off in Jason’s head. “Is that why you’ve been asking me instead of Tim about words? Because I read a lot?”
Dick still did not look at Jason as he nodded. Jason sighed and wrapped an arm around his younger brother.
“I know you didn’t mean to, Dickie, but you’ve made Tim pretty sad.”
Dick’s head shot up in shock, tears springing to his eyes at the thought of upsetting one of his siblings. “What?”
Jason nodded. “Yeah. He’s been pretty sad that you’re not asking him stuff and don’t want to read with him anymore. To be honest, he thinks I did something, so if you could clear that up that’d be cool.”
Dick’s lip wobbled, and he threw himself into his brother’s arms. “I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to! I just—I just wanted to be like you. You’re always reading stuff, and I wanted to see what was so interesting about reading by yourself.”
Jason felt his heart skip a beat at his brother’s words, and he pulled the boy into a tighter hug. No one had ever really looked up to Jason before. There never really was anyone around to do so. He felt his chest warm and a smile form on his face as he rested his cheek against Dick’s hair.
“Thanks, Dickie. But you don’t have to do all the stuff I do to be like me. Besides, being like me is super cool, but it’s even cooler to be like you.”
Jason felt Dick’s head shift as the boy moved to look up at him. “You mean it?”
“Totally.”
Dick rested his head against Jason’s chest. “Okay. Reading can be kinda boring anyway, especially when it’s alone.”
Jason shifted Dick so that they were facing each other, still loosely holding the boy in a hug. “Why don’t you ask Timmy to read to you? I know he was real excited to get to the end with you.”
“Yeah, okay,” Dick replied, nodding. I wanna say sorry too.” Dick leaned in once more to give his brother another hug before grabbing his book and running out of the room. “Thanks, Jay!”
Jason smiled, satisfied that he had fixed the situation.
Tim would later come to him and apologize for being so harsh to him. Jason would forgive him, of course—he would have been pretty upset too—and they would come to an agreement about helping Dick.
Not before Jason got his revenge with an epic prank, of course. But that was a story for another day.

If you won some sort of lottery contest and DC allowed you to write a comic run for any character, any topic, no limits, what would your comic be like?
What kinda plot and characters would you want to etch into official DC canon? (Or would you prefer to write an elseworlds kinda thing?)
-redhoodinternaldialectical from the "main" blog
Sorry it took a while to answer this, I got pretty carried away! Jason is my favorite character and the character I know most about, so of course I'd write about him. This is going to be pretty long winded and fanfic-y, hope you don’t mind!
First things first I’m making both UTRH and Lost Days mostly canon again. Jason was a crime lord who did Mean Crime Lord Things for a while and that’s what I’ve decided everyone is referring to when they gesture vaguely to his villainous past.
I’m also bringing back the original “big boob” backstory where Jason makes Bruce laugh on the anniversary of his parents’ death. Catherine was an opioid addict due to illness, Willis was the person who taught Jason about cars (and thus how to jack tires) and Faye Gunn is no longer Jason’s grandma. (I really disliked Ma Gunn’s “redemption” in RHATO.) Just in case, I’m also reiterating Sheila’s role in Jason’s death.
Here’s a few lines I came up with for the Todds:
Jason keeps the letters Willis sent him from prison - the ones Ma Gunn hid- in the same picture frame that holds his Robin graduation photo with Bruce. He loved and resented Willis in equal parts, but mostly he regrets not having gotten more time. It’s all the same with fathers.
Catherine is curled up in bed, her expression is half a grimace. She asks Jason, who is reading a picture-book by her side, to get her ‘medicine’ for her. Jason doesn’t know how else to help her feel better so… that’s exactly what he does. In a moment, he returns with a small heart shaped box and a cup of microwaved soup.
If I can imply in some way that Catherine is in denial about the possibility of her dying I’d like to do that too.
I’m also doing a total overhaul of the All-Caste.
Essence is getting proper Tibetan braids, Ducra is going to wear a khampa chuba instead of her current old coat, and the Acres-of-All are getting reimagined as a towering Ziggurat with all the murals, pillars, curtains, and ornate trim befitting a monastery! The All-caste of memory will be bright and fantastical, but the ruins of the present will be dark and spooky.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some references for what I'm talking about.
I’m also reframing the “Absolute Evil” part of the All-blades’ description to be an epithet for the Untitled. The sword is not literally judging Goodness and Evilness anymore; now they cut through negative psychic energy Jujutsu Kaisen style. I don’t think I need to spell out a justification for Jason being able to summon them whenever, but for any sticklers I’ll just say it’s because Jason- like the Untitled- has a lot of bad feelings and trace amounts of Dionesium in his system (among assorted other chemicals.)
Since Lost Days is being brought back that means instead of spending an entire 3 years with the All-Caste, Jason only spent a few weeks with them during his world-wide training arc. Ostensibly because a little magic would give him an edge over Batman. Ducra wouldn’t normally just give away powerful magic weapons to any chump with a free weekend, and she knew Jason was dangerous, but since the All-Blades are so specific and the ritual to attain them nigh-unsurvivable she saw an opportunity to use Jason. Sure she's one of the Good Guys, but she's not called a conniving old witch for nothing hoohoo!
Now a few plot ideas for a vague overall mini-arc.
First, Jason goes to ugly lengths to protect or prevent consequences from finding one of his family. Maybe someone threatens their secret identity…? The ‘opponent’ should be someone innocent and/or noble but not easily bought or fought. Maybe Vicki Vale, another Hero, or some kind of wealthy heir. The point is to cast doubt on if Jason’s return to the Bats is really so unquestionably redeeming. Jason has pretty much chosen to betray his morals for them after all.
Then, Jason chooses not to kill a villain who shortly afterwards victimizes more people and skips town before he can get caught. Basically a rehash of Diplomat’s Son except the Garzonas figure gets away. It’s technically a win for Batman- his presence kept Gotham safe after all. But it doesn’t feel like a win, especially not to Jason.
And finally, Jason frames himself for various murders committed by victims against their abusers. Maybe kick the story off with one of Ma Gunn’s boys killing her and telling the cops it was Red Hood in a desperate bid to avoid jail.
Obviously Jason can’t be allowed to do this long-term. It’s a bad precedent to set, an obstruction of justice, etc… Jason hasn’t broken The Big Rule though, and Bruce can only act so sanctimonious when those same complaints could be are made about him as well. There’s no way this ends any other way than Batman running Red Hood out of Gotham again and they both know it, but neither deviates from the path set before them.
One or two “monster of the week” issues where Jason fights various assassins and bounty hunters sent by his more influential enemies might be good- one should occur right after the above story. A consequence for his “return to form” so to speak. Batfamily fans may appreciate a scene where Bruce says something indicating that he ran Jason out for his own safety as well as Gotham’s. Batman may be able to hide in Bruce Wayne’s skin during the day but Jason’s only identity is that of Red Hood, and at times that makes him vulnerable in a way other heroes aren’t. This + some panels contrasting the generic mercenary look of Jason’s guns and equipment with the Bats’ spandex future-tech will be great for showing how separate Jason is from the Bats.
Now while Jason’s out of Gotham again there’s this detail in one of RHATO’s flashbacks that I want to expand on- that being how he used to be able to summon a lot more All-blades.

Red Hood Outlaw 34
“I had a lot of soul back then” - implying that he has a lot less soul now…!?
Jason’s been through a lot, in life sure but also more recently. Fight scenes where the All-blades take the form of daggers would not only be cool and evocative of the wavy dagger Talia gifted him way back when, they’d be good visual sign of his declining emotional state.
Later on as his soul ‘shrinks’ further, I’d give him a pair of mystical guns through which he can channel his All-blades into bullets. If it’s another gift from Talia I’m thinking dark brass revolvers with paisley filigree and a red Endless Knot charm hanging from each handle. If they’re from Essence or S’aru I’m thinking black lacquer and silver cloud-patterned ornamentation, with red coral embedded on either side of the gun. Beautiful Bayonetta-style guns with glowing red veins and a cowboy flair!

antique guns which inspired me
As for what he’s using the All-blades (All-bullets?) for, I think it’d be fun to have Jason exorcising some ghosts. He can solve various murder mysteries, figure out why this place or that person is haunted, and get into fights with horrific otherworldly creatures. Jason is an interesting character to do this premise with because he might just determine that some some spirits should get their revenge, and act on behalf of a ghost rather than erasing it.
I’m not sure whether I’d want to have Essence join him or not… On one hand it only makes sense that Jason would help Isabel and Essence find a way to free themselves from the Blood Blade, and that goal would provide his character with some direction. Then again, Essence/Isabel could be cool as antagonists. Jason might see some ghosts as valid but Essence probably wouldn’t see any merit in appeasing manifestations of lingering resentment. She’s similar to him in that she also turned her back on her family, but she’s different in that she did it because she believed so wholeheartedly in their cause. She’s old and sort of a Jedi, but she’s hot-blooded and she’ll never not be Ducra’s daughter in the same way it seems Jason can never escape Batman’s shadow. I bet she has some real juicy sunk-cost fallacy type thinking too, that’d be fun to dig into.
Anyways I think this is a pretty good set-up to explore the politics/morality of forgiveness. What makes the difference between an injustice and a hatchet that ought to be buried? When is forgiveness empowering and when is it coerced? Who is it that must forgive? Justice vs Revenge, that whole kind of thing.
Other than the supernatural stuff I want Jason working with Talia, and I’m reintroducing Sasha to the post-52 continuity. Duela is getting nixed.
I don’t really have any specific plot ideas for Talia, but I would like to establish Jason as one of her associates. With Lost Days back they have basis for an actual relationship again. They’re not always on the same side but Jason can sometimes do tasks for Talia (outside the purview of Ra’s and the LOA), and Talia can occasionally support Jason with various social power-play type moves.
An instance of Jason getting into a fight with one of the Bats because he’s doing a favor for Talia would be great! I wouldn't write Talia as an evil evil bad horrible dragon lady, so it shouldn’t be a huge blow to Jason’s status as a Good Guy. Also I like the idea of Jason and Talia’s relationship mostly being inferred through their actions supporting one another, rather than directly showing much ‘on-screen’ interaction between them.
Also it’ll be interesting to go into Bruce, Dick, and Damian’s reaction to finding out that they’re not the only ones Jason is loyal to. Bruce thinking Talia was a bad influence on Jason (like fanon), silently frustrated because what he really wants is for Jason to be a full Bat-Believer (like the good old days…). Dick being fine with Jason never falling fully in-line with Bruce, provided that at the end of the day his loyalty belonged to his family.
-brief topical detour to talk about Sasha-
The new timeline of events is that Jason and Sasha met as fellow patients while Jason was in his Vague Villain era. They escaped the hospital building together (Sasha in her bloody dress, and Jason naked save for his skimpy hospital gown dhoti) and having no one else they stuck together. They got close but at some point Sasha lost her memories, giving her a chance at a fresh start. This was around the same time Jason “redeemed” himself and so just like Max Dawkins, ‘Numbers’, and Gabby Christiensen -Sasha became another person from Jason’s past that he didn’t let himself have a relationship with.
Sasha was just old enough that she didn’t have to be sent into foster care, so with some help from Wayne Foundations she got her GED and her feet underneath her. Now… she goes to work, goes to her physical therapy appointments, fights with her mother over the phone, and yes- sometimes she goes to the club.
The new Sasha still has spiky red hair but her face looks entirely normal save for a subtle scar tracing around her jawline and chin- the edges of where her mask used to sit. She wears dark makeup and even darker clothes. She’s prone to false memories and dissociation. She’s lost most of her ability to feel pain. She can’t watch certain shows she used to love anymore because they trigger her. She never returned to Russia. She doesn’t have many friends.
Since this is comics, her reintroduction will come by way of a dramatic fight. Sasha will regain her memories one day and show up out of the blue to fight Jason, angry and heartbroken that he abandoned her. He tries to explain himself but she just says look what they did to my face, referring to the facial reconstructive surgery she was given while amnesiac. She’ll be difficult to fight, not only because being a partial Dollotron gives her enhanced strength but also because she’s being reckless and the longer they fight the more strain and damage her body accrues.
After Jason apologizes and they reconcile (they will both cry) Sasha can become a recurring side character that Jason visits, keeping him grounded and up to date with Gotham. I think it'd be cute for her to bid him farewell by saying she’ll hold the city hostage until he comes back. (Is Sasha going to become Jason’s love interest? No. If I give Jason a love interest it’s going to be Numbers.)
--Going back to the previous topic, I want Sasha’s return to be part of this greater arc of Jason addressing his "shrinking soul" problem. My brain is a little fried now so I’m not exactly sure how but she is related. I think she ought to be.
Jason wants Bruce to be right. He would like for his problem to be fixed by going home and saying sorry. But at the end of my run I want him to face the reality that it’s not about that.
...Perhaps it should be about Jason 'abandoning' Gotham? I don’t really want the final thesis of my run to imply that Jason’s soul would just be fixed if he killed Rogues though, and Jason always came back whenever a big disaster was happening so it doesn't quite fit anyways… Jason does believe in the value of “pure” heroes it’s just not what he’s supposed to be. Whatever his problem's “about” , it ought to prompt Jason to stop taking Bruce’s shit. I'm saying the man is literally breaking Jason's spirit.
I’m sympathetic to Bruce but I wouldn’t write him as a nice father. I would also have scene where a younger Bat accuses Jason of being overdramatic despite 'not even having it the worst’. I don't know who 'has it the worst' but I want to make a statement that you don't need to win the pain-race to be fed up.
Ah anyways, now my brain is really fried. I hope this post was coherent all the way through, I neglected to edit and organize my thoughts as much towards the end. Thank you for asking me such a great question, I had a lot of fun thinking about it! :D

Sorry for doing a third request, but thinking about the thoughts you posted for, I'll carry your heart made me wonder: What does Constantine think of Jason's core once Danny shows it to him? Does he know what it is? Can he tell that Jason is absent from it and not just in a coma? How does he break that news to Danny?
I'm just gonna put all of this under a cut for spoilers. ^.^
Danny pretends that he's a human with ties to the ghost king to Constantine. He doesn't say that he's the king himself. So he shows Constantine the core, says it's his boyfriend but he's in a coma and that his name is Jason.
He doesn't say anything about him being the dead Robin. He doesn't mention ties to any heroes or Justice League members. He's just a ghost that Danny is dating who fell into a coma.
Constantine doesn't really have any reason to suspect that's wrong, either. The best Healers in the Realms all see a ghost that's retreated into its core and has gone dormant. Constantine realizes there's nothing thinking in there, perhaps. Knows that there's something wrong with it. The ghostly equivalent of brain activity just isn't there. Does that mean the ghost is dead-dead? But then he hasn't faded or cracked or broken which is usually what happens when ghosts End.
But Constantine knows what he made a bargain for. He's gonna teach this kid magic, with a focus on healing magics. Specifically magics regarding comas and enchanted sleeps and the rest.
Probably the idea of soul-walking (or whatever the DC universe calls it) gets brought up. The idea of Jason leaving his body behind to send his consciousness out to spy or visit people or places he couldn't get to otherwise.
That's not how I plan for Living!Jason and Danny to actually reunite. But it could get Danny to Gotham once or twice and introduce him to at least Dick.
(The things I mention here are subject to change, but some of them are set in stone. You'll just have to wait to find out which is which. ^.^)

Oh I’m going to say something controversial here: I don’t know if the Munson doctrine mattered that much? Like, Eddie grew up in a shit show situation, because of that he can’t graduate properly, Hawkins has only one school so kids like Steve, Nancy and Jason can’t go to the private one, so obviously Eddie was getting like… like everything I think? In terms of bullying? Like the most significant proof is that Jason went straight for murder, and nobody escalates like that from nothing. Jason knew that he theoretically could kill Eddie, that means that they at the very least had conflicts, likely just physically fought each other. I’d like to believe that when Steve was the King Bee it was kind of chill (hence Eddie not knowing for sure if Steve is a jerk but suspecting), but when Billie came, shit must have hit the fan, because Eddie is the second most delicious target for him after Steve. Especially since Eddie even had his very own posse etc. like I’m sure that Eddie didn’t get beaten up like Steve (he is the drug dealer, Billie is not that stupid), but they had conflicts for sure.
But as soon as Eddie is in contact with the jocks that are not here to beat him up, Eddie is very cordial, nice and helpful and invested? Like with Chrissy, immediately he becomes kind and funny and lovely altogether? And with Steve, Eddie is immediately more cordial than Robin was at first, and more cordial than Jonathan ever was. Robin and Jonathan are also the characters who very much buy into the high school drama, with Jonathan being not like other boys and Robin hating Steve because she was jealous. So idk if Eddie actually buys into the doctrine or if it’s there to protect him from making friends with the wrong people.
Re rockstar Eddie: he clearly is a great guitarist and I think he is already well-known in a way, but he is not known for his music. Eddie becoming a teacher in high school or a semi-famous voice actor, maybe a famous fantasy author suits him so much more? Corroded coffin is clearly escapism, but what he is doing and what he is known for is Hellfire. I’m so sad that there are almost zero fics that explore Eddie not magically getting famous, but like. Working. Like and also he would have gone to college, the guy didn’t drop out of high school, come on. He’d be very dramatic about it but he is going. I bet he was supposed to be the first in his family to go to college and that’s half of the “I’m becoming my father” pain that he is clearly experiencing.
I think the Munson Doctrine is definitely sort of just. self defence mechanism. and also completely arbitrary. I think Eddie has a bunch of preconceived notions about "jocks" in general, and absolutely does what he can to protect himself, and is not willing to give them the benefit of the doubt right away, but he also definitely is willing to change his mind? (if they're pretty)(also the Duffers love perpetuating the false jock v nerd dichotomy)Because Lucas is one of "his sheep", yet he isn't actually protective of him specifically because Lucas plays sports, s i think Eddie does hold some resentment in general towards people who play sports. (also yeah Steve was definitely not a tyrant, he just barely registered people who weren't in his orbit, coasted through) He's a bit of a hypocrite tbh, and that's interesting! room for self reflection for him!
I think Robin was at least colder to Steve at the start was her petty personal vendetta against hi, while Eddie just has what he thinks Steve is like. Jon just doesn't like people and then Steve was dating Nancy so obviously he wasn't going to be buddy-buddy with him. And then Nancy left Steve for Jon and that's another reason to avoid him for Jonathan. Eddie's just out here operating on hearsay and Dustin's stevaganda (Steve propaganda)
Jason's mob for Eddie is influenced by Eddie's reputation, but we must remember Jason was already very religious, and his town had gone through a devastating and inexplicable mass casualty event less than a year before, and, of course. His girlfriend's body was found in Eddie's house. (I just made a post about this lol)Given what we see from him, idk if he would have been physically violent towards Eddie before spring break. He certainly may have though Eddie was a freak and a satan worshipper, but that would have been reason, to me, for a good christian bot to steer clear of. Maaaybe he would verbally taunt/insult Eddie. I could absolutely see that. You're right! Eddie had his own posse, so I just don't see Jason trying to beat Eddie up?
Eddie is definitely more of a Dewy School of Rock kind of guy! He would have a lot of odd-jobs i think. love it when he's just doing what I could absolutely see him being a YA fantasy author! idk about college for eddie. Definitely not right after he graduates highschool, but maybe a number of years later? if he did go he would absolutely be over-dramatic about it.

i'm rereading like a hinge, like a wing and i'm morbidly curious about jason in this au. does he go to ethiopia/die in this universe? if not i'm curious what his future looks like. if he does, i wonder how his death would affect tim and bruce since tim joined the family early
First! Thank you for reading and rereading!
So. Fun fact. I set out to write the Like a Hinge sequel focusing on Dick and Tim having some shenanigans, but then Jason more or less kicked in the door and took it over completely. There are still Dick and Tim shenanigans...but there's also a lot of Jason stuff directly related to the answers to your questions. Meaning, I'm not gonna go too in depth answering this, but here's the shorter version! Some spoilers for the follow up fic if I ever get it finished and posted so if you're not interested in that don't read under the cut:
Everything with Garzonas happened a little over a year before Hinge
Jason had a ticket and a bag packed and was about to go, but his flight was delayed, and also Dick stayed on planet. Dick ends up talking him out of going, among other things.
Aka, along with me messing with their canon ages and many other little tweaks, Dick being home is where the timeline split and Jason did not go and didn't meet Sheila and did not die.
I have no plans on killing Jason, because I don't like killing characters as a general rule. However, kind of like taking away Tim's primary motivation of 'I need to save Batman', it does raise a lot of questions for how future!Jason operates if we take away Hood's primary motivation of 'I died and it changed nothing.' I think a lot of writers tend to think of Robin!Jason and Hood!Jason as two incredibly distinct characters, like they aren't the same person, and there is something to be said for that...but.
But.
The thing is, I really think that "Robin is Magic" Jason and "I'm the guy who can do what Batman can't" Jason can and should coexist in a grown/growing Jason who didn't die. He's 16/17 in this AU. He's figuring out his moral code. He's figuring out what kind of person he is going to be. And, while I don't think a Jason-who-didn't-die would go full Hood and end up with heads in a duffel bag, I do really, really think he still ends up leaning in that direction. It's just not as extreme. Because something that's intrinsic to Jason's character in any universe is that he's a real-world response and challenge to Bruce's rigid moral code in a way that Dick, Tim, Steph, Damian, etc are not.
(Also, like, the thing with trauma, big trauma like dying and coming back and realizing it was meaningless, is that it makes you feel like a different person...but you're still you. Jason doesn't become Hood because of pit madness or insanity or impulse. He becomes Hood because those seeds and the foundation of that worldview were kind of already there.
For me, it all comes down to those lines from Under the Red Hood: "Ignoring what he's done in the past. Blindly, stupidly disregarding the entire graveyards he's filled, the thousands who have suffered, the friends he's crippled. You know, I thought... I thought I'd be the last person you'd ever let him hurt. If it had been you that he beat to a bloody pulp, if he had taken you from this world, I would've done nothing but search the planet for this pathetic pile of evil, death-worshiping garbage and then send him off to hell!"
That's not Red Hood talking. That's all Jason. Because yeah, Robin's magic. But sometimes magic is doing the things that no one else can do, especially when some motherfucker messes with your family.)

So I was reading this very alternate timeline Chrissy lives Stranger Things fic, enjoying it very much, and I noticed what looks like the beginning of what seems to be a redemption arc for Jason. Now, to me, Jason is the scariest threat in season 4 even if the plot doesn't treat him as such, but not necessarily the most evil. So I can see where people might want to give his character the opportunity to be better. I think he's a tricky character to redeem, though, because with Jason there's what he does and there's also what he represents.
This is going to be long and very rambly, so under a cut.
So for a redemption arc to work you start with a character that has done bad things and you force that character to confront them. In Steve Harrington's arc (which is a relevant and fantastic example) he first has to realize he was an asshole, apologize for being an asshole (somewhat interrupted by a Demogorgon but the sentiment was expressed), and finally demonstrate that he learned by not being an asshole. The redemption arc doesn't work without all of the steps.
Now, what does that mean for Jason? Well, in terms of what Jason does wrong there are several levels. He's clearly not a very good boyfriend to Chrissy, though much like Steve with Nancy in season two, this may not be about him being a deeply flawed person so much as being young and ill-equipped to handle Chrissy's very serious issues (he does come across as a bit arrogant and self-centered in episode one but in a way that says eighteen years old rather than asshole). Assuming that Eddie killed Chrissy isn't a huge leap to make based on how the police questioned him, though assuming it was a satanic cult connected to D&D is a pretty wild conclusion to draw. Between that and his decision to go looking for Eddie, I think a tendency to rush to judgement and to let his emotions overwhelm his reason are character flaws that ought to be addressed in a redemption arc.
Also key is the need to address all of the ways he was an asshole. The reason I don't consider Steve's redemption arc to be complete until season three is that part of Steve's asshole behavior in season one is calling Jonathan "a queer." While he is shown to understand the direct harm he does to Jonathan in season one and Nancy in seasons one and two, nothing in the first two seasons shows Steve has any grasp of the general harm done by using queer as an insult. In fiction, character growth only counts when it's visible to the audience, and Steve's casual homophobia isn't addressed until his complete acceptance of Robin.
In fact, I would argue that those flaws, turned up to eleven (no pun intended) along with a refusal to reflect on how he might be wrong are what leads to everything Jason does wrong in the show. Assaulting Gareth is absolutely letting his anger and his need to do something about Chrissy's murder override rational decision making. Witnessing Patrick's murder is obviously traumatic, but Jason's response of doubling down on Eddie's guilt is about needing to believe he is still right, he didn't waste time and physically attack another student looking for the wrong killer. Because Jason sees himself as a good guy, he can't accept that he did bad things for a bad reason. He must have had a good one, so Eddie somehow must be murdering people with magic.
The biggest wrong Jason does is when he brings that conviction in his own self righteousness to the town meeting and turns what should be the police (and only the police) looking for one potential killer into an angry mob in pursuit of not merely Eddie, but the entire D&D playing population of Hawkins. At that point he is no longer just one guy doing bad things, but representative of the violent enforcement of a social order.
The satanic panic of the 80s was real. It sent real people to prison and got real people killed. It was very reminiscent of the blood libel and with season four set in the lead up to Easter, a traditional time for pogroms in Europe, Jason's actions at the town meeting feel less like one minor villain and more like the lead up to a mass murder. Which is a bit more serious than anything the character actually does.
Now, for a Chrissy lives au the problem you run into is that before Chrissy dies, Jason has done none of those things. So it might seem like the easiest way to deal with them is just not to have him do them. And while that might work for the story if he's at most a minor character, it doesn't redeem the character because it leaves his flaws unaddressed.
A version of Steve who never has to deal with the Upside Down may still become a better person (like Jason, a lot of his character flaws are immaturity), but simply not giving him the opportunity to fight with Jonathan doesn't fix him being an asshole in season one. Similarly, not giving Jason a reason to believe Eddie's a murderer doesn't address Jason's hot headedness and tendency toward violence.
Also, even if Jason's character flaws and actions are specifically addressed in the story, the question remains what can be done about what Jason symbolizes within Stranger Things. While it seems apparent from the way the story wrapped up that the satanic panic elements of the plot were written as more 80s flavor than serious threat (prove me wrong, season five, I beg you), the show still used Jason as the stand in for a major threat. And whatever is done with regards to Jason's behavior, he still represents the threat of "normal" society wiping out those who don't fit within its constraints.

A snake in the nest
I think most people would have no idea of who Danny Temple is (he was in like, one arc of the Robin comic and was then gone), so resume: In Robin #82, while Robin is having difficulties in his relationship with Spoiler because he refuses to give her his secret identity, he meets a guy named Danny he strike somewhat of a friendship with, but the guy has a barcode tattoo on a foot and a massive scar over his body, so Tim is suspicious.
The plotline really gets picked up again in Robin #88, when Tim and Danny go on vacation (after Bruce landed on the “Dick moves” side of the spin coin and revealed Tim’s identity to Spoiler so that she go check on him because Bruce doesn’t want to be confronted by Alfred) and Danny gets kidnapped by robots of the Kobra cult (Who has a whole thing for conjoined twins, in comics lore. That’s the origin of the scar, separated twins) because he was one of the most likely candidates to become the new leader after the previous one had too many failures.
Unfortunately, Robin’s at-the-time nemesis King Snake wanted access to the Lazarus Pit the himalaya base of Kobra had (only accessible with the barcode on Danny’s feet) because he had lost his eyesight previously. And the previous leader wasn’t ready to back down from his position, even after the cult tried to murder him. The story ended in Robin #92 with King Snake blind again, the previous Naja-Naja possibly dead, and Danny leader uncontested.
AND NEXT TIME Kobra is back, EVE, the original Kobra leader AND King Snake’s lover and assistant, last seen crushed by a pillar on the lower half and shot by the previous leader, has taken over, and there is ZERO mention of Danniel/Danny! (Due to the fact Danny wanted to make Kobra neutral, and that wouldn’t have been interesting for the writers, I guess.) Oh, also. The paging in #92 is confusing, but I think it implies Daniel knows who Tim is? (Because more people know who tim is than people know who Steph, Kon, Cassandra, maybe even Damian and Jason are
Also, Tim. TimtimTim! You were supposed to be the “normal one”. Why do your male friends include: A half-kryptonian clone, a speedster from the future, Conner Hawke, a prince who used a magical artifact to send a demon hired to kill him after the summoner, the possible leader of a cult raised by who were implied to be robots, Buzz, who was implied to have a mystery involving HIS family that went nowhere, the daughter of a mafia boss who was resurrected as a crazy magician… BERNARD is the most normal person he ever met, no wonder he got a crush on him! Probably means Tim can look at Waller, say “Kneel, Peasant!” and get away with it, though, so that’s nice!
-
It starts on a day like any other. Bernard is watching the latest edition of the Daily Planet news in his boyfriend’s apartment. He scoffs at the fact that they believe the new Superman is the previou’s son all grown up and not obviously a clone like the two previous ones. Lois Lane still knows nothing about Superman after all those years. Distressful.
He looks at the sleeping form of his boyfriend on his knees. Don’t get him wrong, Bernard will always find sleeping!Tim is adorable, but it seems Tim has decided that his dates with Bernard are the only moments of the day where he would sleep. And that is hurting the relationship a lot more than the millionaire seems to think it does.
What’s the point of dating someone if they are never conscious enough to listen to you when you actually get to meet, which is not enough, in Bernard’s opinion. Even if he understands being the likely prince of a mafia group means Tim doesn’t have much sleep at night. Bernard is hurt that Tim doesn’t want to admit that part of his life. He tries to throw hints at his boyfriend that he knows, but Tim is completely oblivious.
Or is much better at acting than he is given credit for, but Bernard has seen him trying to lie. Would be hilarious if he wasn't trying to hide such important things. Suddenly, Tim’s phone rings. Tim, ever the light sleeper, which Bernard finds sad because that means he can’t touch his boyfriend’s hair while he sleeps, is on his two feet in an instant.
“Danny? I haven’t heard from him in years!” And he goes into the bathroom to have a private discussion. Of course, like any good boyfriend, Bernard tries to listen through the door. It’s a Gotham thing, you wouldn’t understand. The sound of Tim running towards the door makes Bern run towards the couch. Thankfully, Tim is never a very observant man, so he completely misses the fact that Bernard accidentally fell into the couch in a very undignified way.
A few instant laters, or minutes, but who cares about that, Tim is entering with a dark-haired guy with a pointed chin and a look that screams “I'm handsome and smart, and I know it”. Bernard has to refrain himself from gripping Tim and growling at the intruder. Tim makes the introductions. “So, Bernard, this is Danny Temple. We were at Brentwood Academy together for a time. Danny,” and Tim beams with pride, which reassures the conspiracy theorist after the odd wording, “this is my boyfriend Bernard Dowd. I met him at the Louis E. Grieve Memorial High School after I transferred from Brentwood.” Danny looks impressed.
“And you have stayed together since then? Impressive! Congrats, Tim! That does explain why you didn’t care about the girls when we were at the beach!” That does reassure Bernard. Apparently, it was only his fears that led him to see a rival. Tim blushes. “Oh. N-No! We didn’t date back then, but we met again, we started dating!” Daniel opens his mouth like a fish in comprehension. “Ohhhhhh! okay. Now, maybe I didn’t come at the right time? I wanted to ask for your help, but you might want to finish the date first, or?” “Tim’s help with what?” Bernard is genuinely confused.
Danny gives Tim the stink-eyes. “You told him. Right?” Tim isn’t looking at either of them. “Told him what? I have no… Is this money.” “No. Tim, come on, you two are dating, you should-” Tim shows a surprising amount of strength; not so surprising, thinks Bernard, he might hide it, but Tim has some seriously ripped muscles; grabbing the man, holding him over his head, and running into the bedroom. Bernard scoffs. That bedroom has sound-proof everything. He never was certain why, but at least, it won’t be used to hide sex noises given the fact Daniel seemed fine with the relationship.
Still, he is wondering, “What are they talking about?”
-
I throw Daniel on the bed. I realize he is wearing his- “Daniel, you’re walking around with your Naja-Naja armor underneath your clothes???” I only receive a look in response. I unbutton my shirt to show him. “See, no robin suit.” My old friend isn’t looking impressed. “Yeah, because it would be hard to explain if you take off your clothes in front of your boyfriend why you have a robin suit.”
He is right, but I am not going to give him that.
Anyway,” I decide to distract him, “why do you need Robin for? Kobra was back to being evil in no time, with no news of you.” Suddenly, I panic. “Oh my god, you’re a clone of the now dead Danny, aren’t you.” He looks part-offended, part-horrified that I reach this conclusion. “What, no! Tim, I had to regain strength and rebuild my power slowly on my own. Also, Eve didn’t get back the entirety of Kobra, thank you very much. No, the problem is that we are in a full-blown war, currently, and my spies reported to me that this bitch is planning something against batman, to show off how cool and powerful she is.” he is putting air quotes when saying “cool” and “powerful”, and seems to respect her as much as Tim respect Crazy Quilt.
“So, we need to stop Lady Eve. Okay. Something else? Having the support of part of the Kobra cult will help a lot. Thanks, Dan.” Danny moth’s twitches. “Actually…” Now, it is I who gives him a dead-pan expression. “Given how much Batman and others have stopped the plans of the Kobra group, even my spies aren’t angry at Eve for trying to kill your mentor. Actually, my counselors are recommending that I take her by surprise with a plan to take out Batman first.”
I facepalm and think of everything possible. After an instant, Danny asks: “You’re thinking about..?” “Should I give you coordinates of rogues to make a very impressive display, do I give you weaknesses to use so that we almost loses against your agents in exchange for infos regarding lady eve’s schemes, should I pretend you brainwashed me to join, because i am NOT even pretending to join Kobra willingly, friendship be damned!” He looks a bit hurt at it, but I think he understands why. Even if my support could help. Or maybe it would convince members of his side of the cult to leave.
I sigh. “Can… you give me a day to get a working plan. Also, I would like to get the most you can give me about Lady Eve’s plan. Please?” He rises up off the bed. “Of course. Thank you, Tim.”
-
Bernard is surprised that the conversation didn’t last longer when he sees the door unlock. He grabs his phone and takes a picture as soon as that Danny guy shows up in the crack of the door, before hiding said phone. Maybe that will help him identify who Tim is hanging with.
Danny closes the door with “Once again, thank you. Tim. It reassures me that you are ready to help.” Tim seems to have mixed feelings. Bernard gets really worried about what his boyfriend got involved in.
Afterwards, it’s very awkward as the both of them are trying to come up with a credible lie to shorten their date, all plans forgotten. Bernard can’t even remember what he said to Tim as he closes the door, besides a “See you soon, Timmy!”
He puts his head in his hands to muffle his screams in the corridor as he waits for the elevator.
And Danny Temple doesn’t seem to exist. True, Bernard can find his name in the records of Brentwood Academy, but he apparently never finished his studies. And he has no online presence on any social media. rather weird for a handsome guy like that. Also, Brentwood is a private academy located near Gotham. That means money. Lots of money. So how the hell does Bernard come back empty-handed? The fact that there are many people named Danny Temple doesn’t help him either.
It’s not until much later, when Bernard is going through lists for international terrorists, expecting nothing, that he finds him. And he let his mug of coffee drop on his bed, spilling its content everywhere.
DANNY TEMPLE: One of the leaders of the Kobra Cult. Searched in 42 countries for terrorism, thiefs, blackmailing of US official, hijacking of a sattelite…
Well, lots of it seems to have been done by a guy named Kobra, AKA Jeffrey Franklin Burr. Danny Temple is considered to have agreed with those opinions and the attempts to destroy the US, but Bernard couldn’t find anything the Kobra cult had done recently in terrorism that weren’t connected to a woman nicknamed “Lady Eve”. And there were rumors of on-going power plays and tensions inside the cult.
Still, even if Temple was “only” a random cult leader, that he tried to get close to a mafia leader like Tim was worrisome. Even if it was simply an alliance for guns, Bernard wasn’t super keen on his bf dealing with a cult. Nevermind all that! Giving GUNS to Terrorists???? He had to go see Tim immediately!
-
And here is what I am reduced to.
“Please, Jason! You’re the only one I can trust to not hold my friendship with a member of Kobra against me! Please help me!”
“Timothy, I am NOT helping Kobra, even if it’s a nicer Kobra. I may be a gang leader, I have standards. And I am not screwing my already tenuous relationship with Bruce”
When you spit his name like that, no wonder he doesn’t like you, Jay.
“To make you happy!” “We can work together on it! Say it was my idea but I want the plan to stay between you and I! It’s true, and Bruce will leave you alone!” I feel humiliated, begging Jason on his knees. The fact he came in his full armor and I’m in my sweater is not helping. I look like a dumb member of Gotham’s elite who, like most, over-though his importance.
It's in this especially awkward situation that Bernard slams the door open.
“Tim, I- red HOOOOOD?????!!!! OMG! No, please, don’t hurt my boyfriend! I know he did bad things, well, actually, I know he did bad things but not  sure why, I was ready to let his mafia stuff unaddressed-”
My boyfriend thinks I’m part of the mafia. What. Jason gives me a look. He might have his helmet on, but I can tell his body image is a “WTF, Timothy.”. I sweat even harder. Jason, thanks whatever deity he believes in, doesn’t take advantage of the situation to spread slander. I would have, in his position.
“What? Mister whatever, I’m not planning on killing him. Jeez. There are so many people who deserve it more. No, your… fffrriend, here.” He called me his boyfriend, Jason, you can call me that, damnit. Oh  God, is Jason? “Decided to call for my help, and I’m not feeling generous today.”
Bernard rushes to grab him protectively. "Don't worry, Tim. It’s about that kobra guy who showed up earlier on. Does he have blackmail material on you? you know I used to be in a pain cult before, tight? You can talk to me about things like that.” I’m uncertain about how to respond to his scared face, and then, The Red hood just leaves like that. Me and Bernard are so shocked that I don't realize at first he is calling Dick. Fuck.
It’s then that Tim realizes he is running on adrenaline and crashes to the floor out of unwelcome relief.
-
Bernard tucks Tim in his bed, but doesn’t join him. He is too excited to join him, even if he needs the sleep too. Holy shit! Tim was able to contact Red Hood! HOW? An ex-robin, one of those who survived and became their own heroes! Albeit, given the changes in behavior Red Hood manifested throughout the years, Bernard wouldn’t be surprised if they were at least three people who occupied the costume. maybe five. And then, he is reminded of his suspicions there were multiple Batmen and he looks back at his notes on his phone.
Suddenly, he realizes the Red Hood left the window open. Would be bad if the current Batman showed up. But when Bernard enters the living room, he is shocked to encounter two of the Bagirls, the signal, Nightwing, the newest Robin, didn’t he leave, Batwoman and Red Hood. Bernard would call this a reunion of Gotham vigilantes, but. How many people are missing? Batman, Red Robin, Spitfire, Batgirl #3, Ghostmaker, Nightwing, Clownhunter, Catwoman, The Question… He is so occupied counting them that he doesn’t hear the first time Nightwing coughs.
“Hum, excuse me… Civilian, but could we talk with Tim Drake? Privately, if possible?” Even if it’s said in the nicest way possible, and they all look awkward meeting him, Bernard isn’t exactly feeling safe. “Well, uh. He fainted, so maybe later?” Oh dear Lord, did he just say “Later” to a superhero that isn’t even located in this city?
They all seem shocked he dared say that too. The current Robin even says: “Well, he at least chose a man who stands his ground. Kind of needed.” Bernard is taken aback. “Tim is known for being  pushy? Since when?” New waves of glances exchanged between the Gotham Knights. Bernard is getting annoyed.
“Well, Tim isn’t disponible, try again tomorrow.” And Bernard turns his head and walks out on them. On the inside, he is panicking more than that time their school was attacked and he saw Darla die in front of him. He notices the spoiler look-alike Batgirl runs towards the bedroom. He is not quick enough to stop her. She sounds surprised when she opens the door. “Seriously?!?” “Shhh!!!! You’re going to wake him up, and he is never sleeping at a decent hour!”
Bafflingly enough, she seems to actually be ashamed. Who would have thought a superhero could feel bad. The group discreetly escaped while he was looking at her, and she gave him the slip by the entrance door when he noticed that. Bernard double-lock the window and sits on the couch to keep watch.
Sadly, even with all that, he ends up sleeping too.
-
I woke up in a panic. And get confused. I'm in my bed. Jason wouldn’t have done that, and he already left anyway. But why isn’t Bernard with me in bed? I think of what we could do in bed together and I blush hard. I frown when I open up my phone, expecting him to have left a message. Instead, Barbara sent me a text telling me to come. that’s in the intervention. Jason! I quickly put my costumes on and leave by the window. Bernard probably went back home.
I arrive at the cave thinking of excuses. “Well, excuse me. I have this friend who’s part of Kobra and I know it’s bad news, and I promise I don’t agree with his idea of keeping it running.”
“You WHAT, Drake!!!!!?!” Damian shrieks. I notice everyone besides Bruce and Luke are here. Jason is covering his head in shame, and everyone looks horrified. Cassandra is first to get her senses back. “We here… Talk.. you boyfriend.” Oh. OH. OH NO.
“Why do we need to talk about it? It’s not like you guys always tell your civilian dates!” Dick is the one who talks back. “Timmy. He thinks you’re in the mafia.” Touché. Stephanie goes on the offensive, oh shit! “Tim. If you don’t tell him this week, I WILL.” She lets her threat hang in the open. And I know her. We dated for several years. She will put it into practice.
I shake my hands. “No need, Steph. I was planning on telling him.”
When? You never told Ariana, Zoanne or Tamara. Cassie knew already when you started dating and Bruce is the one who told Staph.
Shut up, guilt. And she seems to have the same train of thought as I did, because her face becomes notably harsher. Cassandra states what everyone knows. “Liar.” Suddenly, I feel Kate’s hands on my shoulders and I tense. “And now, what is this about a friend of yours being part of Kobra, Robin…”
-
Bernards wakes up and is shocked to see Tim is gone, his window opened. A quick search shows the window was opened from the inside. Suddenly, a knock is heard at the door. Bernard is shocked to see that terrorist dude. “You live with Tim… Bernie?” “Bernard.”
The blond grabs his boyfriends’ blackmailer and brings him inside, before shoving his finger in the other man's muscular torso repetitively. “And Tim’s not there. I’m not sure where he is. But. I. Think. It. Has. Some. Thing. To. Do. With. Red. Hood. Showing. Up. Last. Night.” Wow, he needs to take some breaths. Bernard is so focused on his panting he doesn’t notice the look of fear on Danny’s face. “I hope your boyfriend is okay.” That surprises Bernard. “You say that only because you need him for whatever Kobra has planned”, he spits with a harsh expression. The dark-haired cult leader is shocked and actually steps back a little, before shouting. “HOW DARE-”
“Hello you two! Now, can we get you separated? Mister Temple, we want to talk to you about what we can do to stop Lady Eve. And… Bernard Dowd? I think Tim Drake has something to tell you.”
Huntress and the silent Batgirl escort Bernard to Tim’s room. He is sitting on his chair, which he dragged in the middle of the room. Then, the two are left almost alone, with only Spoiler-Batgirl staying to look over them. Bernard opens his mouth. “So… This is the moment where you tell me you’re going to jail, isn’t it.” The Batgirl slaps her face and groans.
Tim seems to hesitate. He starts many phrases, then whispers something in a language Bernard doesn’t even know. Tired, Bernard turns towards the girl. “You know what he means?” She looks uncomfortable. “Well, yes, but…” “WAIT!” Shouts Tim. “I’mrobubyudon’guyed…” Bernard exchanges a quick glance with the woman, before they both turn towards Tim. “Yeah. Hum? Sweetheart? You’re going to need to talk louder for me to try to understand what you mean.” Tim gets a lot redder than Bernard ever saw him and gives a pleading look to Batgirl. SHe sighs and goes to the closet.
Bernard looks, intrigued, and is shocked when she clicks on an invisible button, which opens to reveal: “A Robin costume? Why does Tim have THAT! I thought the Waynes were like criminals?”
His boyfriend makes a sputtering sound and hides his face in his hands while Batgirl rolls on the floor laughing.
"WHAT???" Shouts Bernard. She rips her mask and takes off her hood. "Stephanie Brown!" Bernard is shocked to see Tim's ex, now sister, is Red Robin's ex. A light bulb burst into his mind. "Tim, you're an ex-Robin? But I thought you guys were adopted BEFORE becoming Robin!" Steph looks like she is dying of laughter and Tim is trying to disappear, with how small he is making himself.
Then, the reveal truly sets in, and Bernard has to sit on the bed. After some thinking, he only says: "Tim, you're a… superhero?" He sounds hurt. Tim runs towards him and kneels by his side to look him in the eyes. "I'm sorry. I never told anyone, you know? Besides some teammates. Even Stephanie didn't know who Robin was when he started dating Spoiler."
Tears spill from Bern's eyes. "So, you keep secrets from everyone you know? Tim, how am I supposed to trust you when I won't be able to take anything you say as face value. I-" He hugs Robin… Tim.
As they whisper things to one another and Stephanie goes to the door to give them space, Damian enters. "Drake, I think you had enough time to talk. Now, come on, we have plans to… Oh."
Stephanie drags the young Wayne by the ears. "Come on, Damien. They need some time to deal with it."
-
Bernard is clutching his sofa so much he wonders if he is going to break it. He can see the images on the screen repeat in his head.
A massive attack from Lady Eve in a bank, trying to bring out Batman. Suddenly being attacked by Black Mask's gang, who was planning a robbery. Nightwing, wearing a snake-theme mind control helmet, sent by the Naja-Naja, whoever that was. Batman being caught by a rival faction of Kobra who wanted to get to him before Eve.
The massive brawls that resulted, in which Sionni almost killed Nightwing- Dick, Tim would have been devastated, by slashing his throat. Tim arrived late, because traffic is terrible in Gotham for a motorbike rider like him. The batmobile can fly at least. Or is the batcopter truly a different thing?
His phone distracts him. It's Tim sending a pic in costume. "Don't worry, Bernie, nobody was massively hurt."
"Don't call me that to distract me from the fact Dick almost died, asshole!"
Tim doesn't answer for a moment, but Bernard can see he is typing a lot.
"Yeah, sorry babe. I'm coming over?"
Bernard hesitates. His fingers stay above his phone for what feels like hours.
"Yes. We need to talk about security. I love you too much to stomach seeing you so much of you throwing yourself like that."
And that's true. Tim was fighting like he didn't care that he got hurt. Red Robin/this Robin often did, and Bernard was always worried. But now that he knows it's Tim…
He hears the flutter of his boyfriend's cape in the wind and smiles at the man opening his window.
-
"So, a conspiracy theorist who thought we were criminals and was part of a cult? You could have picked better." Damian complains.
I pretend to look at my phone. "Oh, gosh, robin! Never thought about it! Maybe the Rhafi of Dhabar would be better suited indeed! I haven't talk to him in some time, but-"
"What?"
"Or, I know! Do you think Bruce would accept a speedster as my boyfriend if I told him the other options are an amazon or a half-kryptonian?"
"Drake, I. You."
"Maybe I should see how the third Lynx is doing, but she might remind dad of Selina too much."
"Who?"
"Maybe. Or maybe I should seek Darla out. What do you think of me dating a mafia leader's daughter with magical power? Don't worry, she's good now."
"Drake, why are you like this?"
"Trauma, my dear Damian. Trauma."

intro and fanfic links
Hiya! I’m Spee (she/her) and I write stuff. I got my start eons ago writing for the Star Wars fandom. After a long break, I’ve begun to write again focusing on the DC Comics universe, including the DC/White Collar (TV) crossover. I hope you enjoy!
Please carefully mind the Ao3 tags on all the below fics.
A Defense Mechanism -- A DC/White Collar crossover. Longfic.
Neal Caffrey is a nonviolent con who doesn’t care about breaking the law.
Before, he was Dick Grayson, a violent vigilante who did.
He's running from his past.
What will he do when the past comes to him?
Magic
Being Robin gives Jason magic.
Tim wants some of that magic, too.
For DC Dark Week Day 4--Interpersonal Dynamics
Deadman
Alfred Pennyworth waited.
He knew the man in the mask would come for him soon.
For DC Dark Week Day 2--Major Character Death
Golden Boy -- Part 1 of a ? part series
The first and last time Batman fires Dick Grayson as Robin, Dick is 13 years old.
He never comes back.
What does this mean for Dick's life--and Jason Todd's?
Day 6: Never returns after getting fired
One Spiteful Speedster — a DC/White Collar crossover
Peter Burke is about to learn what happens when he messes with Wally West's boyfriend.
Training Day: Gotham City 911 Edition
“Could you at least help me out here? The mall is about to explode!”
“Meh. It’s gone downhill since the Macy’s closed,” Pilar said.
“Meh??” Eric sputtered. “How can you not take this seriously?”
“The Riddler isn’t even an A level villain anymore. I think you and Robin can handle him, newbie.”
or: Eric Richards knows nothing about Gotham City--which would be fine, if he weren't its newest 911 operator.
Watch This -- Part 1 of a ? part series
Jim Gordon sighed into his club soda.
He wasn’t a schmoozer. He didn’t like to schmooze. He was a cop, dammit, not some show pony to be trotted out by the city when they needed more funds or higher approval ratings. Yet here he was, at the seasonal GCPD/Wayne gala, shaking hands and kissing babies. Well, not literally the last part; there were no babies here. They cried through speeches and weren’t big into shrimp cocktail anyway.
He liked to think his job was one of action, not politics, but who was he kidding? His fate had been sealed the moment he decided it would be cheaper to buy a tux than to keep renting.
or: Jim Gordon mingles with Bruce Wayne and his young ward at a gala. Later that night, he briefs Batman and Robin on the GCPD rooftop. He might notice some similarities.
Batgirl Fills Out the FAFSA
Dick did a little forehead wrinkle that, in Stephanie’s professional opinion as a bat, looked too adorably clueless for him to pass as Batman at the moment, despite being in the suit. “Right. I know what the FAFSA is. But why are you filling it out?”
Could…Dick be secretly dumb? Like, she knew he wasn’t the World’s Greatest Detective, or even the World’s Second Greatest Detective (an honor belonging to her ex), but she had pretty much assumed he was the Third.
Or: Stephanie is applying to colleges. Who knew that Bruce's emotional incompetence could make the process more tricky even when he's not there. Dick attempts to help out.
The Essential Arkham Asylum Playlist
"No!" Nightwing said. "It's just--and don't take this the wrong way--have you considered listening to something more, uh...cheerful?"
“Get the fuck out of my room."
Or: Naomi expected some weirdness when she checked herself into Arkham Lite™, but unconscious costumed vigilantes, visitors coming in through the windows, and critiques of her taste in music had not been on her list.

Sneak peek into a Jason Todd character study I am writing atm:
Nothing kind came from Gotham, but a young Jason Todd thought the stars were kind anyway. Back then, he was young, he was hopeful despite it all and he used to stare at the stars barely shining overhead, only a few tiny white prickles to be seen through the pollution.
He loved Gotham, but sometimes he was sad because the night sky was so disappointing.
His mother always told him that she didn’t need a stunning night sky to look at, because there was an entire galaxy to be seen in Jason’s eyes for her alone.
Sometimes Jason felt like he was a supernova contained in a small body, too much and too blinding for the world to handle. He was passion, he was fire, and he was not afraid to hold his tongue. His neighbours always told him that he was too outspoken, a dangerous thing to be in Gotham. Jason never let it deter him. Instead, it made him want to burn brighter.
He misses being that child, sometimes.
He misses everything that he left behind, the versions who he used to be.
Because that’s what Jason has been doing all his life, everchanging and growing into something new.
He was a child who loved going to school, he was a child reading book after book in the library, he was a teen who believed Robin gave him magic, he was teen who laughed and grinned and joked with little children on the street. He looked back at these past versions of himself and used to view them as if they were different people all together. Like they are old friends turned to strangers, long forgotten.
Throughout life, he shed and put on new skin countless times like they are jackets you decide to wear on a whim. But in the end, who is he really?
He used to claim that this person he right now is the person he has always been, but if that was true, does that mean that the little boy clinging to a shadow's side was a lie? Jason used to think so. Now he is not so sure.

I’ve been thinking about the tragedy that was Jason's death. I hate the fact that nowadays DC and the fandom leans a little bit too much into the “Jason Todd is the angriest one and he was the worst Robin” agenda.
First of all, Jason Todd only died because of a stupid voting. But, but! Jason would die eventually in my head, he is the sweet one. The emotional one. The one that wears his heart on his sleeve and tries desperately to hide it.
He died because he thought that his bio mom finally wanted him, wanted to be with him. He loved Bruce to no end but he wanted to know her, to be with her. So he went after her and she sold him out to the Joker. And still, he forgave her for it. And deep down I believe Jason would’ve forgave Bruce if he didn’t act the way he did when he found out Jason was alive. If Bruce were more receptive, their relationship maybe still could've been saved.
But being mad at someone, being disappointed with someone doesn't mean you still don't love them. I believe Jason still loves Bruce, but he keeps it buried deep. Bruce still loves Jason, but he is too prideful and relies too much into his moral code to ever admit that.
Jason didn’t die because he wanted to prove himself, he didn’t die because he was reckless and immature. He died because his biological mom sold him out. He died because he thought he could’ve a good relationship with her, even after she abandoned him. He thought he could have one big happy family. Bruce would be his dad. His bio mom would always be around. He would have Dick as his big brother. He would have Alfred with him all the time.
Until he died. Then he saw himself in a warehouse, in the middle of nowhere tied up and being beaten by a crowbar by a fucking lunatic psicothic clown. He died angry, sad and confused as to “why is this happening?” “I thought everything was finally going to be alright, better.”
I would be so angry if I was him too. Then he came back, without knowing what the fuck was happening. He was thrown at a weird pit that made him even more angry and then he saw that Bruce moved on, that Bruce had a new Robin, another one for the Joker to kill. The Joker is still alive and thriving.
Honestly I think that what he did in the beginning of his life as Red Hood was nothing compared to what I would’ve done. He deserved his chance of revenge. He deserved to put Gotham down and shred to pieces and a little bit more.
He died loved by Bruce and when he tries to get his revenge against this motherfucking clown all of the sudden Bruce doesn’t love him anymore? I bet he even thought “Did he ever loved me?”  Bruce’s feelings turned dark way too fast, dude. And I understand the way Jason reacted. He died and then woke up and suddenly everything was moving, changing too fast.
Jason Todd does deserves a second chance. He deserves to be surrounded of people that understands him, loves him and won’t judge him.  He should have his own family, honestly. His own little group.
I love his relationship with Dick, but that’s it. DC won’t even allow him to have a decent relationship with the others from the Batfamily.
I just think that the tragedy behind Jason's death is the feelings and dynamics involved. Like I said, he died with the certainty that Bruce loved him. He came back without having that anymore.
Robin gave him magic, but Red Hood gave him the ability to get things done. And with that I fall into the rabbit hole of associenting Jason dying as Robin as a metaphor of the death of childhood and Jason being reborn as Red Hood as the birth of adulthood. But that's a essay for another time.

Batfam Reacting to S/O Turning into a Robin HC (Request)
Tumblr media
So this entire thing happens because you and Bruce were fighting Circe who just had to throw a spell at a civilian
You jump in front of the spell and catch it, taking the blow
This means that on site, you turn into a Robin
Wtf
Bruce is big mad now since now he thinks that you could be a Robin for the rest of your life and that’s just not cool
The moment that the fight is over, he calls in everyone from the league
Z, Constantine, Dr. Fate, Zatara, Wonder Woman, the whole lot
Once they find out what happens there’s a worry but eventually they find that it’s going to be alright and you’ll change back within the next 72 hours or so
72 HOURS
Bruce just simply cannot wait that long
he doesn’t know what to do with a bird like
ALFRED
They make sure to not try and feed you anything that’s too disgusting that you wouldn’t normally eat
No worms
That would be gross
Bruce does find it kind of funny that you turn into a Robin and not something else
So happy it wasn’t a bat
You’d get mixed and lost with the rest of them in the cave and that would be weird
Plus there’s a high chance that you’d just fall from the ceiling
Once you finally detransform from the entire debacle, Bruce is very happy to have you back
Gets special charms from Z and Constantine that repel bad magic back onto the user
Ensures that something like this doesn’t happen again
Dick Grayson:
Tumblr media
This man does not know what to do
It’s a run in with Witch Boy that causes this to happen
Z!!!!!!
That’s the first person that he calls
Wally is really the one that takes you back to him since Dick wasn’t on this mission but you and Wally were leading it
You jumped in front of one of the newer recruits and that’s how that happened
Does this entire experience count as a souvenir?
Like maybe he just takes a feather that you drop or something and like SOUVENIR OF THAT ONE TIME THAT Y/N TURNED INTO A ROBIN
After the initial freak out mode, he just thinks that it’s kind of funny that it was a Robin
Z said that the spell was the wrong spell (thankfully) and you’d only turn into something that you loved for a little while
RObin yOU TuRNeD InTO A RoBIn
And that makes Dick a blushing mess
Once you finally do turn back, he teases you
Your most important question is did you eat anything gross
The answer was no but still
Trust issues
he does mention what the spell was and that lead to some blushing
Jason Todd:
Tumblr media
This was the last thing that he had planned
The absolute last thing
On a mission that involved some weird magic stuff, you just happened to get turned into a Robin
What the literal hell is happening now
The first instinct is to see that it’s really you
Once you understand that you’re a Robin, you’re just like, oh, so this is happening now
And that’s just how it is, you fly up onto his shoulder and just run with it
Just sitting there like it’s no one’s business cause it isn’t
If anyone asks why there’s a Robin following, it’s just what’s happening now
He is concerned that you don’t turn into a human again
So he does make sure to ask and this time, it needs a counter spell
Z is the one to do this since Jason isn’t keen on trusting Constantine
Doesn’t take super long to do this since Z is already very powerful
We Stan a powerful helpful queen
So Jason goes to one of her shows and sneaks back stage still in the Red Hood uniform and explains what happens
Z just goes ahead, sets you on the floor, and does the transformation
It was really easy, not to painful, but it was weird to just be laying on the floor and not able to fly
You’ll only miss that part
Jason doesn’t miss any of it and still jokes about the fact that you were a Robin
“Babe at least you didn’t blow up in your time being Robin.”
JASON PETER TODD
Tim Drake:
Tumblr media
So you turn into a Robin on a mission with the team
He was on this mission and watched the entire thing go down
The funny part was that you could still talk since the magic was somewhat incomplete
There’s just this small voice “WHAT THE HELL!”
And then Tim knows that it’s definitely you
Tim was going to take you to one of the magic users in the league
but since Diana was right there when you got back, you stormed up flew up to her and just mouthed off
“DIANA LOOK AT ME! THAT ASSHOLE CIRCE TURNED ME INTO A ROBIN! THERE’S NOTHING WRONG WITH ROBIN BUT I DON’T WANT TO BE ROBIN! WATCHA LOOKIN AT BATS! I’M NOT UP FOR ADOPTION!”
Tim just died laughing
Cause it really was funny that you were just a little tiny Robin and mouthing off at the most powerful heroes in the world
Recorded it 100%
When Diana takes you to Themyscira in order to get one of the Amazon’s to help, Tim obviously couldn’t come
So it’s about a three day long trip and during that period, Timmy is a mess
He needs to know what’s happening at all times to ensure that you’re alright
When you do finally get home, he tackles you into a hug and checks you up and down to make sure that there’s nothing still wrong
Very happy when he concludes that there’s nothing wrong anymore and you’re back to the regular Y/N
Damian Wayne:
Tumblr media
His first instinct is to not let anyone touch you but him
He takes you everywhere and makes sure that you’re alright
You can’t talk but he’s helped birds before and has dated you for some time so he knows what no to do and what to do
That being said, he does want you back to normal ASAP
That means that he’ll call an emergency league meeting without Bruce’s approval
Although Bruce probably would have done the same thing since he really knows that Damian loves you and would make sure that you’re alright
That’s super important to him and the rest of the family since you are kind of family at this point
Damian insists that the magic users help turn you back very quickly
They call in Constantine since Z is off doing other things and he makes sure that he knows exactly what happens
Constantine has had some bad experiences with magic in the past and he wants to be sure that you’re not going to have anything really bad happen to you
Damian is the same way
Probably threatens John’s life if something goes wrong
Once you’re finally back, Damian also tackles you
Though Constantine has to hold him back at first since the shock of turning back and then having someone tackle you to the ground would be over whelming
But when he finally can, he does
Checks you over just like Tim and then doesn’t let you out of his sight for a week or so
It’s not that he doesn’t trust you, just not anyone else
He makes it a point that you’re too important to lose
Cuddles everywhere
Once he does step back and think about it though, he finds it kind of endearing that there are thousands of other things that you could’ve turned into but it was a Robin
It was sweet but didn’t need to last longer than it had to
Duke and Luke:
I’m putting these guys together since in my mind they’re pretty alike
Luke is the classical version of Duke and Duke is the Lofi/ alternative hip hop version of Luke
For these reasons they both have very similar reactions
And that would be to freak out
they take you to Bruce and get advice cause what is going on
They don’t have as much of a connection with the Robin deal since they weren’t ever technically Robin for Batman
Duke is a bit more of an arguable case but still
They do find it both suspicious and a bit comedic that it was a Robin out of anything else though
I have to say that they’re the most chill out of any of the Batfam when it comes to something like this since this kind of thing just happens a lot
Not turning into Robin, just weird outta pocket experiences
Like this is just another thing to add to the list of oh here we go again
Duke does think that you’re still really a pretty Robin
In the most non- weird way possible you’re just a pretty Robin
Luke doesn’t really pay attention to that and instead wants to get to the bottom of what happened so that it doesn’t happen again
They’re both really smart so they’ll figure it out but at different paces since one is more urgent than the other
Doesn’t mean that either care less though
Once you’re back they do make sure that extra diagnostics are run to make sure that nothing was effected and you’ll be okay long and short term
Once they’re satisfied it’ll all go back to being pretty normal
Sry this took so long, exams are running wild

Once the crashes died down, Alfred returned with a pet carrier and a smug Jason.
"Not to say this revelation isn't important, but in this moment it is not." She spoke as she stood up. "What is urgent now is to return Damian to his original state. Do you know who was the person who caused the transformation?" She looked up at Dick, because of the call she heard he may have been there when it happened.
She specifically looked at Dick, directing her question. He on the other hand opened and closed his mouth, debating on how much he could tell her.
"I don’t know who they were, but I can remember some pieces of their appearance if that helps any." He started to speak. "One was definitely a girl, ashy blonde, brown curly hair and was wearing equestrian riding clothes in browns and white. And I’m sure she had ears and a tail. The other I can’t tell if they were male or female, so they wore dark grey shorts, black stockings, and an orange crop top. Their arms were stained black to their elbows, the most unsettling purple eyes. Ears and nine tails the same orange as their hair."
"So, in other words a horse girl and a human nine tailed fox. Who turned your, our brother, into a black panther cub." She repeated aloud. It’s not that it sounded impossible, the thing is it sounded familiar. Not just vaguely, but headache inducing familiar, unfortunately in more ways than one.
---
*Flash Back*
A silvery blue portal opened and out stepped a human Trixx and Kaalki.
"When did you two leave?" Tikki flew up to greet them.
She wasn’t paying them much attention. She noticed that they changed back and all three went back to the miracle box. Yet she did not think it was important to ask them on their exploits.
*End*
---
She stayed silent, lifting her hand, thumb under her chin, index on her lower lip. She was thinking. She closed her eyes and took a breath.
Trixx.
This was Trixx’s magic. Meaning that it could be reversed, but they would need to be the one to do it.
She opened her eyes. Her voice was level, but her voice held authority. "Trixx." Was all she said.
---
Marinette stood so still he could have confused her for a statue. Then her eyes snapped open, her blue eyes almost glowing.
Then she spoke. Dick couldn’t believe her voice, it was eerily level, but held such authority that he stood straight. "Trixx."
A beat passed and nothing happened. Then she repeated the same word.
"Trixx." This time the smallest sliver of anger or was it disappointment lingered on the word. Although he knows she isn’t talking to him, her disappointment weighs on him.
Then an orange ball of light appeared in the center of their little circle. "I’m sorry. I didn’t think that the angry, stabby, bird vigilante was going to be your brother." It then turned around and saw him. "Oh, you are the blue bird." It flew around his head. "Oh, and this now makes a lot more sense. Did you realize that there was a peacock in this house." The mini little fox flew over to Alfred.
"Yes, I realized that Trixx." Marinette answered. "But you being distracted will not distract me."
"But it’s practically fate." The fox, Trixx, exclaimed while flying circles around Alfred’s head.
"Him not realizing you cursed Damian, is what should be considered luck."
"But birds don’t usually turn on foxes."
"Miss Marinette, how is it you have a kwamii with you?"
"Not just one." The fox piped up before Marinette could open her mouth.
"Trixx."
"Sorry I’ll go back."
"Not until you turn him back."
"But Mariiiiii." The fox pleaded. "Fine." They relented. "It isn’t permanent and will completely fade in 72…60 hours."
"Thank you."
"Miss Marinette, do you have multiple kwamii on your person?" Alfred asked her.
She panned for a moment; Dick assumed she was thinking of her response. "Robin." She pointed at Damian still in the carrier. "Nightwing." She pointed at him. "You fit as Red Hood making you Red Robin." She pointed between Jason and Tim respectively. "That would make you Batman himself." She turned to Bruce. "Am I correct Peacock?" She turned to Alfred.
"You are a ladybug." Alfred answered her, but Dick was just confused with this girl.
"I am also the Guardian, not just a ladybug." She returned.
"Okay, wait." He had had to interject. "You just assumed who we were because of a flying fox, you are calling Alfred a Peacock and he is calling you a ladybug. Respectively what does that mean."
"Was I wrong?" She asked in a deadly calm, tilting her head, the only indication of her confusion.
"You are correct, Ladybug." Alfred confirmed, causing everyone to turn to him wondering if he's lost his mind.
She nodded and then once again with resolution. "He calls me ladybug because I am the holder of the Ladybug Miraculous, as he is the designated holder for the Miraculous of the Peacock."
"So how does that play into you figuring us out." Was asked by Tim seemingly awake now.
"That was made by a combination of what Trixx said, my basic knowledge of heroes outside of Paris, and my personal ability to recognize people as akumas." She shrugged.
"That's the second time you've mentioned akuma, Marinette." Her father space up. "You know more than you let on."
She chuckled at this. "Of course, I do. I am Lady Scarlet, the holder of the Ladybug Miraculous, and heroine of Paris."
"Shit! She didn't need your help to be a hero B." Jason screamed.
"That alone explains so much more than you believe." Bruce sighed walking out of the room, Tim and Alfred following him, Jay following not soon after.
He would have followed, he was just out of the door, if he didn't stop when she spoke.
"Are you going to behave?" He backtracked a few steps and watched her, he leaned against the door frame, in full view.
She held up a single finger then knocked on the air. Held up two fingers then tapped her index and middle finger to her thumb. It took him a moment to recognize the ASL, but Damian picked up on it quickly.
He meowed once and she went and released in from the carrier. Who then jumped on her bed, watching her. His gaze turned to him, and he blinked slowly, before going back to watch Marinette.

Whacky Gotham, Goofy New York, and Chaotic Paris.
(Part 1) (Part 2) (Part 3) (Part 4) (Part 5) (Part 6) (Part 7)
Chapter 5: Then Let The Games Begin
•—–—–·†·–—–—•
Soooo, the Batfam is panicking, Gotham's confused as to why Iron Man is flying over Gotham like a madman, and Maria is with two of Gotham's Sirens (but only Ivy and Harley know this) having a wonderful time playing with Bud and Lou.
Let's start with the Sirens.
Harley is watching over Maria and Tikki as they sleep with Bud and Lou, Ivy walkes over to sit next to Harley, handing her a cup of tea.
"So, what's the diagnosis?" - Ivy
"She has some sort of trauma, has class issues... and handles more than she should, but still does everythin', on top of bein' a hero. She's been through some sh-t Pam." Yeah Harley may have found out Maria's a hero (if the tiny god and magic were anything to go by).
"Is she alone?" - Ivy
"No, thankfully, she has supportive parents, and friends that aren't little sh-ts. I think they're also heroes, she also has a lot, and I a mean A LOT of pent up emotions, she doesn't show anythin' negative, only positive things. She seems to shrink in on herself if she thinks she does somethin' wrong. Pam, we both know there's a limit to how much crap a person can take before they snap, and she's such a sweet kid. There has to be somethin' we can do to help her Ives." Ok she found out alot, but in Marias' defense, they have trustworthy souls, and they were the only other people (besides her friends) that she talked to about it, yes she had her Maman and Uncle to talk about hero stuff, but for the stuff her class does, she only ever vented (without being negative) to her friends.
"Her class is visiting the Botanical Gardens in three days, and it's a 2 part tour, so we can see just what's going on. If it's bad then we scare them a bit, if it's bad bad... they can handle a few slightly poisonous plants right?" - Ivy
"God I love the way ya think Ives, do ya think she can stay with us? I mean look at how cute she is with Bud and Lou... Oh my god, she's cuddlin' dem, and ya gave her a flower crown, how'd I miss that?! Where's the camera?"
Tumblr media
Harley took a picture to remind her of this wonderful moment. As Ivy and Harley looked at the picture, they both promised to keep Maria safe, and maybe become sorta kinda-ish parents to her while she's in Gotham.
•—–·Now back to the Bat-Chaos Bat-Cave·–—•
Tim took over the chair and was now searching the possible locations with Jarvis, Damian was sitting on a different chair, trying to act cool, but he wouldn't stop looking over at Tim, to see his progress. Bruce was talking over the comms with Tony. Dick and Jason, weren't helping (they kept feeding each other worse and worse ideas of what could have happened to Maria). Then they heard Jarvis speak.
"I have found the most likely area Ms. Dupain-Cheng would be in. Her phone died about 56 blocks away from her hotel, if we don't count kidnapping, or murder, she would have thought about asking for directions, but may have decided not to considering the city she is in. So that leaves us with a possible 15-25 mile radius from her last known location. I think it best to divide into groups of two, have Oracle stay and update you if anything on security, and or traffic cameras happens. Bruce will be with Tony, Dick will go with Tim, and Jason will go with Damain to search within the area. Stephanie and Cassandra will search around a 5 mile radius near Wayne hotel." as Jarvis continued to explain the other details, the Batfam began to suit up, Batman met up with Iron Man, and they took the North area, Nightwing and Red Robin took the East area, while Red Hood and Robin searched the South. Steph and Cass were on foot in civilian clothes, searching the West area they were assigned.
They searched for the whole day, and came up with nothing. Until Oracle saw a video from a traffic cam around 9pm, 15 blocks away from where her phone died. She called it in and everyone went back to the cave. Once everyone was at the Bat-Computer, Oracle pressed play, the cameras didn't have sound, and it wasn't close enough to see if she was ok.
They watched as she went to an overgrown parking lot and sat down. She was looking down at the ground, and that's when they spotted two figures round the corner and spot her. They watched as the two figures approach Maria, and saw the startled reaction she had. They realized it was Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy that were talking to her, then they saw Maria collapse. They watched as Harley made sure she was ok, looking over to Ivy before looking back to Maria and picking her up. The last thing they saw, was Maria being carried away by two of Gothams' most dangerous rouges, but now they knew where to look next.
•—–· Back to Ivy and Harley ·–—•
Harley continued to take adorable pictures of the children.
"God, they're so f-ckin' cute!" - Harley for the 20th time
As Ivy continued to watch while caring for her plants, Catwoman walked in.
"Hey girls, got the stuff for movie night, so what are we- Holy mother of cats! He adopted another f-cking child didn't he! Where the hell does he keep finding them?! 7 was ment to be the god DAMN LIMIT!!!" - Catwoman
Maria jumped at the sudden shouting and may have accidentally summoned a yo-yo (one made useing creation magic and protection magic) before saying.
"Tikki where's the akuma?! How long was I out?! Forget it Tikki spot-" she then realized she wasn't in Paris, and seeing a new face, she also realized she just spilled her secret to another person within the same day... kinda
"Fffffffffffudge sunday that fell on the pavement!" - Maria shouted in baker profanities
"That's not how ya curse sweetheart. It should go more like-" Harley was cut off by a vine Ivy had summoned.
"Harley, cursing makes the plants sad, you know this." - Ivy said removing the vine
Harley just walked over to Maria and whipsered it in her ear.
"You're supposed to say it more like this, ' ..... .... ... .. ....... .. ... .....' ok?" - Harley ended with a big smile
"... I will never see this world in the same frickin' light ever again." - Maria
"ehh close enough." - Harley
"Can someone please tell me, WTH is going on here, on our special girls day off?!" - Catwoman
"She is a new member of the Sirens as of today, and as a member, she's unda our protection, so effective immediately." - Harley
"Cool." - Maria
"Harley." - Ivy
"Wut... first things first, if she is going to join, she needs to be very flexible, know how to fight, and be incredibly intelligent." - Catwoman
"She beat Ed's @ss with a gun pointed at her, and solved every riddle with ease, so I'm positive she'll be an amazin' addition to the team." - Harley
'God she sounds like a new mother now' "But we don't know how good her flexibility is." - Catwoman
"I know, hey Maria, ya wanna do some tricks with me, of course we need to stretch first, but do ya wanna give it a go?" - Harley
"Sure." - Maria
Ivy and Catwoman sat down on a couch a few feet away from where Maria and Harley stood in the empty part of the building. They started out with stretches, and to Catwoman's surprise (and Harley's delight) Maria copied Harleys streches perfectly.
"Ok, now that that's done, we'll start with some cartwheels, then move on to flips, then handsprings and so on." - Harley
Maria gave Harley a nod... and they were off... literally, Harley did a cartwheel into a handspring, and a few backflips, Maria executed it flawlessly. Harley did some more complicated gymnastics tricks, and Maria did it, Harley did triple backflips going into a cartwheel, into a summersault, and Maria did that perfectly as well. This went on until both Harley and Maria were slightly out of breath, both having massive smiles on their faces.
"Ives, please let her join, she's like a mini me." - Harley then hugged Maria and they somehow both tripled in cuteness as they both did puppy (or Puss In Boots style) eyes at Catwoman and Ivy.
"Sure Harley." - Ivy said walking over to give Harley a small kiss on the cheek.
"Okay... but she doesn't have a costume yet, and she still has to think of a name for herself." - Catwoman
"Is a mouse good, like a mouse themed costume, that or a Turtle themed one. What do you think Harley?" - Maria
"Mmmm, I like that with the mouse you can always toy with Cat, ya know, cat an' mouse stuff, turtle seems... weird even fawh Gotham, so personally I would pick mouse, just because of the cheesy jokes you could do." - Harley
"Very funny, ok then, give me a moment."  Maria then reached out her hand, her eyes then started to glow an icy blue, and a small portal opened in front of her, she reached in and pulled out a small pendant necklace. After she put it on a small mouce appeared and greated itself, Marias' eyes going back to normal after closing the portal.
"Hello I'm Mullo, nice to meet you all."
"Omg omg omg, It's soooo f-ckin' CUTE!" - Harley
"Best to assume all of them are extremely cute Harls." - Ivy
"What the Hell did I miss in the week I was gone?!" - Catwoman
"Ehh, not much, oh but Iron Man did fly aroun' Gotham a few times earlier this mornin' like a madman." - Harley
"Oh sh-t." - Maria
"Maria are ya ok? That was ya first official proper curse in my presence." Harley said looking over to the girl.
"He's gonna kill me." - Maria
"Wait, what do you mean Marigold?" - Ivy
"... He's my Uncle, and I never got to text him I was ok, since my phone died before I met you." - Maria
"Hey, I'm sure he'll understand, now what are we watchin'?" - Harley
"I think we have more important matters other than movies at the moment!" - Catwoman
"Ok, Me Myself and Irene it is." - Harley
"No! You basically kidnapped Iron Mans' NIECE!!!" - Catwoman
"Technically, she fainted and us bein' the good Gothamites we are, decided to take her with us, to make sure she was a-okay." - Harley
"I'm ganna need more than just a six pack of soda to get me through this... Just put the movie on already." - Catwoman
Catwoman sat at the far left end of the couch, next to her sat Ivy, then Maria, and then Harley, Bud and Lou by their feet. All of them sharing one big blanket (Becuase if Iron Man did show up, or any of the birds, then Maria was in a protective burrito and they may not see her right away) and they started the movie.
•—–·–—•
"Oh god, the poor cow." - Maria
.........
"Hahahaha, he stuck a whole f-ckin' chicken head in that guys @ss" - Harley
"The poor chicken." - Maria
"Maria you don't want to see this part." - Ivy then lightly covered her eyes for the ehem, chicken extraction.
.........
"Anyone up for another movie?" - Harley
"That depends." - Ivy
"Any suggestions Cat?" - Harley looked across to the other end of the couch to see Catwoman already sleeping.
"She took her cat-nap already? Seriously?" - Harley
"... What about Pirates of The Caribbean?" - Maria
"I'm good with that." - Ivy
And they started the next movie, Maria was happy, it felt like when her maman and papa would sleep with her when she made a pillow fort. It was a loving atmosphere, it felt safe, and nothing could ruin it. Marias' eyes became heavy, and she leaned her head on Harleys' shoulder, falling asleep after a few minutes.
Ivy paused the move looking over to see both Harley and Maria sleeping, soon Ivy also fell asleep in the comfortable silence.
…………………………
Around an hour later Maria woke up in a panic, she had a nightmare, and kept looking around frantically for someone with tears running down her face.
"What's the matter hun?" - Harley said looking around to see if someone had gotten in. When she looked back at Maria she saw that she was crying.
"What happened?" Harley asked in a kind voice that was filled with motherly love.
"I, just *hic* had a bad dream that's *hic* all, I'm fine." - Maira said trying to wipe the tears away.
"You're ok, I promise nothin's goin' to happen to ya as long as Ivy and I are here, ok hun?" - Harley hugged Maria, and she could feel the girl let out a few more sobs, and quick breathes.
"Thanks Maman." Maria didn't even realize what she had said, it just felt natural for her to say it.
"You're welcome hun." 'Omg I'm gonna cry, she called me maman!' Harley rubbed small circles over Marias' back, and began humming until she fell asleep, she continued to hug Maria until she also fell asleep.
•—–· Back to the Chaos Bat-Cave ·–—•
"What do you mean she's with two of Gotham City's Sirens?!" - Tony
"Tony, calm down, I'll call Selina, she can talk to them and get this all sorted out." - Bruce
"Your fiancee is a Gotham Siren too?! Why didn't you tell me?!" - Tony
"Why isn't she picking up? And unlike some people, this family doesn't like outing our secret identities... on live TV." - Bruce
"Oh well excuse me for not keeping my secret identity a SECRET!" - Tony
"I'll try calling her one more time." - Bruce
"Bruce, it's 3am. Who in their right mind ever stays up this late.... aside from this family." - Tim with a giant coffee mug in hand.
"... I'll just call her one more time." Bruce then connected it to the Bat-Computer so everyone could hear.
•—–· Back to the Sirens ·–—•
Catwoman's phone is ringing like crazy, waking everyone up, including a tired, annoyed, and confused Selina.
"Wth does he want at 3 in the morning?!" - Selina
"Just answer it so we can keep sleepin'." - Harley still hugging Maria
"I'm putting it on speaker, so you lot can testify against his @ss in court, for disturbing the peace."
•—–· Over to Batsy ·–—•
"Selina I need to ask-"
"WHAT THE F-CKING HELL DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND ABOUT A GOOD NIGHTS REST!" - Selina
"Oooooh, she sounds pissed Bruce." - Jason
"I'm sorry to call you at this hour, but we need to find a girl that looks just like every single one of my other kids." - Bruce
"Bruce... I thought we agreed that 7 kids was. the. f-cking. limit." - Selina
•—–· Back to the Sirens ·–—•
Selina looked over to Maria before muting the speaker.
"Do you want them to know you're here Kitten?" - Selina
"... I'm tired, I haven't had coffee, I have no filter, so f-ck it, act like you never saw me today, and let them drown in chaos. " - Maria
"I think I like filter less Maria." - Harley
"Okay." Selina shrugged her shoulders and then un-muted her phone, putting it back on speaker mode.
"Where was she last seen?" - Selina
"She was last seen with Harley and Poison Ivy, I want you to see if she's still with them." - Bruce
Selina looked over to Maria and Harley, both of them shook their heads with mischievous grins.
"I've been with them all day, and I haven't once seen a girl that looks like your kids. Now can I go back to sleep, and forget this ever happened?" - Selina
"WHERE IS MY NIECE!!!" - Tony
"Oh, hey Tony, didn't know you were there, don't know who, or where your niece is, but good luck trying to find her. Oh and Bruce, I'm shutting my phone off so you don't keep calling till the butt crack of dawn. And congrats it's now 4am. you owe me a lunch date, uh-ba-bye." Selina then hung up her phone and turned it off.
"That went pretty well if you ask me, now I'm going back to sleep." - Selina
•—–· Back to Batsy ·–—•
The room was silent for a few minutes before Jason spoke up.
"Does that mean that Pixiepop ran away and is even more lost now?!" - Jason
"Oh god, what do we do, what if she got hurt?!" - Dick
"What if she got kidnapped?!" - Jason
"What if she's with a big time Gotham Villain?!" - Dick
"... What if she got more coffee?" - Tim
"Oh Hell No" - Jason/Dick
"... Lets all go to sleep, and when we wake up, we'll head over to their base and double check. She could've just said that because I called her at 3am." - Bruce
"But my niece is still out there!" - Tony
"You're going to sleep Tony." - Pepper then dragged Tony to his room.
•—–· Back to Maria ·–—•
Selina went to a different part of the building, where Maria assumed the bedrooms were. Ivy had gone to the greenhouse to be with the plants, and now it was just her and Harley left on the couch, and she couldn't sleep.
"... Harley?" - Maria
"Yeah hun?" - Harley
"I can't sleep." - Maria
"Well, watcha wanna do till ya get tired?" Harley asked sitting up a little straighter to get a better look at Maria.
Maria gave a sly smile, and looked Harley in the eyes "Want to go free-running on the rooftops?"
"... Alright, but lets get some coffee, and a snack in us first." - Harley gave her a side hug, before getting up to go make the coffee, and grab some snacks.
After they had their coffee, they climbed to the roof of the base. Harley was in her outfit, bat in hand and ready to do some bonding.
"So, how does ya outfit work?" - Harley
"Like so, ready Mullo?" - Maria
"Yes Maria" - Mullo
"Ok, Mullo, Get Squeaky!" A bright light flashes, and when Harley could see again, Maria was in a dark gray suit, wearing black knee high boots, with a strip of pink at the knee, and black elbow length gloves with the same pink strip at her elbow. Her mask was a slightly lighter gray on the top part, and pink on the bottom. Her hair was pulled into two buns with pink ribbons that faded to gray, and to black at the very tip. Her jump rope around her waist forming a tail going just below the back of her knees.
"Just when I think ya can't get any more adorable. So what should I call ya?" - Harley
"You can call me Multimouse." - Maria
Soon they were racing and doing tricks off different roofs, they were really enjoying themselves. From one of the roofs they heard a commotion in one of the alleys, when they looked down they saw a man holding a woman at gunpoint.
"Not good, seems like he's got issues, probably lost his lover, most likely has additions to drugs and alcohol, and seems to be a little tipsy." - Harley
"I've got a plan." - Multimouse
…………
Multimouse droped a little way behind the guy, grabbing his attention while Harley got the lady to safety.
"You know there's a help center two blocks from here that would be more than willing to help you." - Multimouse
The crook just raised his gun to her trying to keep it steady as he spoke.
"Give me all your money little girl, or else I'll hurt you."
"1. That's not how you hold a gun. 2. That is no way to treat any girl. and 3. Instead of money, I'll give you my jump rope." - Multimouse
"Why the hell would I want your jump rope, that thing looks worthless." the crook lowered his guard enough as Multimouse pretended to hand over her jump rope, only to use it in a quick motion to dismarm the man, as Harley promptly knocked him out with one swing.
"Lets neva have ya at gunpoint again, okay hun? I'm afraid my heart can't take it." - Harley said while tying the crook to a lamppost.
"Sorry, but it was the best idea I could come up with at the moment, besides, any guy with a gun would feel like they have the upper hand if they're facing a random little girl with a jump rope, rather than Gothams' Harley Quinn with a bat." - Multimouse
"Sadly I'm just too popular with the kiddos on the street." - Harley
…………
They continued to stop a few more muggers on the way back to the base, and when they got back they peaked around the corner to see the whole Batfam plus Iron Man talking with Ivy and Selina.
"How much you want to bet we can get back out before they see us?" - Whispering Multimouse
"... Lets try hidin' in the kitchen." - Whispering Harley
As they tried to sneak by (still in their costumes) Selina just walks over and draggs them to the group.
"Here, now let me sleep!" - Selina
"Dang it Selina we wanted tah see just how long we could hide out in the kitchen!" - Harley
Selina did a double take now realizing they both went out.
"... You didn't." - Selina
"We wanted tah go free-runnin'! So what?" - Harley
"She could've gotten hurt Harls." - Ivy
"My suits magic, I am invulnerable to bullets, normal magic, swords, knifes, anything staby staby, and I can withstand any temperature in it." Multimouse said with a slight pout.
"Hold up, is she a magical girl?" - Red Hood in the background
When Selina let go both Harley and Multimouse went behind Ivy for protection.
"We can still make a run for it." - Harley whispered to Multimouse
"... Ok, I'll meet you on the roof." - Whispering Multimouse
Harley gave a nod as she slowly inched her wasy closer to the door that lead to the roof, as she saw Iron Man approach Multimouse.
"Please get out of your suit, we need to talk about why you're here-" - Iron Man
"Multitute!" - Multimouse
Harley then saw Multimouse shrink into dozens of tiny little versions of herself as her clones spread out in all directions, one of which was heading right for her.
"Wth, you never told us she could use magic!" - Red Robin
Harley picked her up, and slipped through the door without anyone noticing.
"That was great, but how do ya get back tuh normal size?" - Harley
"Simple, I just merge back with my clones." As she said this, all her clones came back, and she merged with herself, becoming normal sized again.
"Where to?" - Multimouse
………… So now The Batfam is trying to find many long gone Mini-Multimouses, and Harley seems to have disappeared with her. Harley and Multimouse are now running over the roofs, heading for Wayne Manor.
"So why are we going to Wayne Manor?" - Multimouse
"Because, Batsy will neva think of lookin' for us at his own home, at least not fawh a little while." - Harley
When they arrived at the Manor, Multimouse de-transformed as Harley knocked on the door.
"Ms. Quinn, Ms. Maria, pleasure to see you here, please come in." - Alfred
"Are any of the bat-birds here?" - Harley
"Ms. Barbara, Ms. Stephanie, and Ms. Cassandra are the only ones here at the moment." - Alfred
"Do ya think you can keep us bein' here a secret from Batsy?" - Harley
"Harley? What are you doing here with Maria?" - Barbara
"It seems that Ms. Harley and Ms. Maria are now playing hide and seek with the rest of the family." - Alfred
"Did someone say hide and seek?" - Steph
"Yes, so could we maybe try and keep this a secret from everyone else, please?" - Maria
"Sure, it was starting to get boring around here. We can all hide in the living room no one ever use. Barbara you show them the way, I'll get the food/drinks and boardgames." - Steph
"Is this alright with you Alfred?" Maria
"It's all right Ms. Maria, you can hide out in the old living room." - Alfred
"Thanks Alfie, ya the best." - Harley
"Thank you Alfred." - Maria
"Ok then, follow me." - Barbara
…………
In the old living room, Harley, Maria, Barbara, Steph, and Cass began to formulate a plan.
"Ok, so the best way for them to never find you is to have your phone off, stay away from any and all cameras, and show your face to no one." - Steph
"So, do you have anything in mind that you might want to do?" - Barbara
"Can we put them on a wild goose chase?" - Maria
Cass nodded to Marias' suggestion approvingly.
"I can hack a few traffic cams to help with that." - Barbara
"We can also throw in some useless hints, to throw dem even further off our scent." - Harley
"Good idea Harley." - Barbara
"Thanks, but how long do ya think we should make it last?" - Harley
"As long as Maria wants it to." - Barbara
"Then let the games begin." - Maria.

Taking Chances Ch. 27: Princess (Royal/medieval AU)
AO3
Prev
The shrill akuma alarm wakes Marinette up the next morning and she sighs, rubbing her head gently before grabbing the bottle of painkillers that Dick had left next to her on the table.
“Don’t leave yet!” A voice calls from the other room. Marinette frowns, but listens, quickly taking a couple painkillers and letting herself wake up. Dick rushes into the room, nearly falling as he slides across the floor in his socks. He rushes over to her and kneels in front of her, staring into her eyes. She frowns.
“What are you doing?” She asks, too tired to try and comprehend what’s wrong with her brother right now.
“Checking your eyes and seeing how bad your concussion is so I know if I need to call Adrien to keep a closer eye on you for this fight.” Dick says, frowning slightly at something he sees. He reaches out and gently pushes a spot on her head and she hisses in pain.
“Hey, ya big jerk, that hurts!” She complains, giving him her best ‘Damian’ glare. He just rolls his eyes.
“This is serious kid, you got seriously injured last night.” Dick reminds her. She purses her lips.
“I know, and I promise I’ll take it easy later, but right now I really need to go.” She pleads. Dick sighs, but nods, standing up.
“Go kick some butterfly butt.” He says with a small grin. Marinette grins back at him, quickly calling her transformations and portaling away to Paris. She blinks in the bright sunlight, trying hard to push away any disorientation she has from the stupid concussion. I can do this, she thinks, glancing around to assess the situation. She frowns at her surroundings. She knew she was technically in Paris, she could see the Eiffel tower and Kaalki never misled her before. Well, not during an attack anyway. But where the giant modern buildings should be, there were small stone buildings with thatch roofs. Glancing around, she also notices a huge, stone castle where her school used to be. That should be fun.
“I am the Dark Knight, and I will not rest until I have Chat Noir and Ladybug’s Miraculous!” A voice shouts out above the rest of the noise. Marinette creeps over and just blinks at the fashion atrocity before her. She was going to slap Hawkmoth twice when she found him. Once, for terrorizing Paris for over a year. And again for the awful wardrobe choices he made. Seriously. And the Dark Knight? Isn’t that name trademarked, or something?
“Hey Bugaboo, what’s the plan?” Chat asks, landing beside her and leaning on his baton. She frowns.
“I don’t actually have one yet. I just got here.” She says, and this time he’s the one confused.
“But you always rush over.” He says, careful not to include anything about Kaalki. You never know who might be listening.
“I’ll explain later. Any idea where the object might be?” She asks, scanning the akuma. It’s power didn’t seem too awful. It had changed most of the structure in Paris, and now it was changing people’s clothes too when they got hit by the orange light. Some citizens were in what Marinette could only assume was the height of fashion during the Renaissance, whereas some citizens were draped in obvious “peasant” outfits. But there didn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason for the difference. Just a difference.
“The satchel looks promising.” Chat says, and Marinette grins, a plan slowly taking hold in her mind. She’d just need two paper clips, a stick of gum and whatever her lucky charm was.
---
“Pound it.” Chat says holding out a fist. Marinette grins, returning the fist bump. “Did you have time to talk? You know, about why you were late?” Chat asks, and Marinette sighs but nods. They both recharge in an alley before swinging to sit on the top of the Eiffel tower.
“I fought an akuma alone, while you were out of town.” She says first, shrugging lightly. “I didn’t think about it, honest. I’d done it a million times before with Monsieur Pigeon. But the Bat got mad.” Marinette says, not wanting to risk calling him her dad while she’s masked in Paris. It just felt like it was asking for trouble.
“Cause you fought alone?” Chat asks, frowning.
“Well, that and I sort of jammed the Zeta tubes so that outsiders can’t come to Paris during an active akuma attack.” She mumbles under her breath, wincing at the noise Chat’s neck makes when he jerks around to stare at her dumbfoundedly.
“That’s insane. How’d you do it?” He asks and she simply grins.
“Spent enough time with Pegasus and Red Robin and Oracle. Add in a tiny bit of luck and boom. I win.” She smirks
“So you were late cause you’re grounded.” Chat says simply, a proud smile on his face as he thinks he cracked the code. Solved the mystery.
“Not quite,” Marinette says with a slight frown.
“Then what?” Chat asks. Marinette lets out a long sigh, glaring at Adrien to let him know she’s not happy about this situation, she does not want to talk to him about this. He’ll just get all worried.
“Well last night I was still benched from patrol because of the whole akuma attack thing but Tikki thought I should be ungrounded so I went out anyway and then the dude that stabbed me a couple months ago found me and the rest of the Batclan didn’t know that I was out so they couldn’t help me and I was all alone and then he knocked me out and I don’t really remember much except I woke up at Nightwing’s apartment and met Starfire and yeah that’s it.” She rambles, shooting him a smile and waving nonchalantly.
“I’m going to wrap you in bubble wrap. No, I’m going to make the Batclan do it.” Chat finally says, pulling out his baton.
“No, don’t! Batman doesn’t know. Neither does Hood or Red Robin. Only Nightwing and Robin know.” She says, swatting the baton out of his hand. The last thing she needed was for him to accidentally call her dad on her. She’d be in so much trouble.
“Geeze Bug.” Chat mutters under his breath, tugging her into a hug. She sighs and hugs him back, taking just a moment to relish being with her friend.
“I’m pretty sure Batman is narrowing down his Hawkmoth suspect list.” She mumbles, and Chat pulls back from her, staring into her face.
“Are you serious?” He asks, the relief on his face clear. Marinette nods, and Chat lets out a long sigh. One that Marinette could feel in her bones, because she was tired too. She also wanted to end this fight. Hopefully her dad would have a suspect soon.
---
Bruce Wayne was the world’s greatest detective. He had solved cases infinitely larger than this one, so he didn’t understand why he couldn’t find a damn lead on Hawkmoth. Actually, he understood perfectly. It was magic. God he hates magic. It’s unpredictable, and most of the time it’s more trouble than it’s worth. He sighs and sends a quick text to Dick, double checking that Marinette had made it back to his apartment okay. He knew his daughter was...upset with him for benching her and demanding she take someone with her to Paris. But they were all precautions, just to guarantee that nothing worse happened to her. She wasn’t invincible, no matter how much she seemed to think she was. He frowns at the text he receives back, quickly hitting call and waiting a few moments for Dick to pick up.
“Hel-”
“What do you mean she’s not at your place?” Bruce asks, not giving his eldest son a chance to talk.
“Well hi to you too, B.” Dick teases, and Bruce just knows he’s grinning. He lets out a sigh and pinches the bridge of his nose.
“Is she really not there? The akuma attack ended nearly twenty minutes ago and she’s not here either.” Bruce says, trying to think of where else she would go. Jason was even at the Manor, and hadn’t heard from her either.
“No, B, she’s not-” Dick pauses, then lets out a long sigh. “It’s B. He was wondering where you were.” He hears Dick say, and Bruce is surprised to hear his son’s tone. It was less carefree and more...like a father. He was a father, with Mar’i, but it was still odd to hear him use the tone on someone besides his granddaughter.
“I had to talk to Adrien.” He can barely hear her say and Bruce lets out a frustrated huff. Of course she was with the Agreste boy again. Honestly, he seemed nice enough until Selina pointed out the crushes that the two had on each other. Now, Bruce wanted nothing more than to lock him away. Far away.
“Can you please ask her if she’s coming home tonight?” Bruce finally says, listening to the silence on the other end. He wonders if they’d put the phone on mute or if Marinette was signing furiously the way he’d seen her do over a video call with Cass earlier in the week.
“We’re all coming. See you at dinner.” Dick says, hanging up almost fast enough for Bruce to not hear the protest from Marinette. Almost. Bruce walks to find Alfred, trying not to let the fact that his daughter doesn’t want to see him again get to him.
---
Marinette glares at her oldest brother as they walk into the manor. He just grins, acting as if he hadn’t practically forced her home. It’s not that she didn’t want to come home, but she knew she had a couple bruises and a lump on her head. She also knew that Damian was apparently barely holding himself back from hunting down Slade. She really didn’t need Tikki giving him any ideas.
“Welcome home, Miss Marinette. Would you like me to look at your injuries?” Alfred asks immediately walking towards her as he walks into the room. Marinette glances around, hoping her dad isn’t around before sighing.
“No thank you Alfred, I’m fine.” She reassures him, or she tries to. His face doesn’t look like he believes her.
“Yes, I’m certain a concussion is nothing to worry about. Especially since you’ve had so many.” He drawls, raising an eyebrow at her.
“Hey, whoa. You said this was your first concussion.” Dick says after urging Mar’i to fly off and find Jason or Damian or Tim. Marinette huffs.
“It is.” She says, crossing her arms.
“The concussions you sustain in the suit still count. Head injuries are not an exact science. Nor are they an exact magic cure, either. They often heal at an accelerated speed, but can still have long-lasting effects.” Alfred says and Marinette blinks. That was almost- Almost- information about the Miraculous. And only someone who knew about the Miraculous would know about the whole head injury thing. She blinks at him for a moment, running possibilities through her head. She sighs, realizing that if Alfred had been a holder, it was definitely for a Miraculous she didn’t have. She could just...feel it.
“I promise I’m fine, and if I start feeling any of those other concussion symptoms, I’ll come to you.” Marinette promises.
“And how did you get a concussion?” Her dad asks, practically materializing out of nowhere.
“Akuma attack. Miraculous cure can’t do a complete heal with concussions, it’s too, uh, dangerous. Not exact.” Marinette lies, trying hard not to do any of her tells. She doesn’t tense up, she doesn’t grin, she doesn’t look at someone else and giggle, nothing. She lies with a straight face, which honestly almost scares her more than getting yelled at by her dad. He just hums before nodding at her.
“Will you be staying here tonight? Most of us have patrol, but afterwards Tim suggested that we all watch a movie together.” Her dad says and Marinette tries hard to suppress her grin. There’s no way.
“Wow Tim, you really wanna have a full-family movie night?” She calls out, grinning at the surprised look on her brother’s face. Because of course her dad was the one to set it up, but of course he didn’t want anyone to know. “I think that’s super cool Tim. As long as we can watch some Disney princess movies.” She adds, laughing as Mar’i comes flying around the corner with wide eyes.
“Did someone say princess?” She squeals, flying straight into Marinette’s arms. Marinette grins at her niece and nods.
“Oh yes. Timmy has decided we’re gonna watch Disney princess movies as a family all night long!” She says, laughing as her niece cheers. She glances at her Dad and tries hard to hold back the snort that wants to come out at his exasperated look. Looks like it’s gonna be a Disney night for the Wayne household.
