Guys Chuuya's feelings toward Dazai must be so absolutely incomprehensible right? Right??

Like, you meet this kid who insults you and acts all intellectually superior and then turns around and defends you in front of your friends. Is like "Let's kill this dude together" after which you demand him explain why he's so gung ho about living suddenly, and seem to be satisfied with his answer?? So you put your life in this asshole kid's hands and he comes through. You did it. You defeated the bad guy.

Then this kid turns about and reveals he was playing you and your friends the whole time, and blackmails you with your friends' lives (friends who stabbed you literally in the back like 10 seconds ago, it was a really shitty day). You join the mafia but you pretend somehow you did it of your own volition and not because of the manipulations of this kid.

Fast forward a year later, you make new genuine friends who die immediately by some French asshole trying to control your life, and the shitty manipulative kid is back, saves you from imploding on yourself and carries you all the way to your dying friends so you could say goodbye, running off before you can stop him. Goes completely AWOL when you need him for your plan to kill the French asshole, shows up AGAIN to the place you'd just been tortured in. You decide the only reasonable way to deal with this is to tie him to a pole and spin him around until he's sick, and he 100% agrees. You come up with a plan to finally beat the French asshole. Oops the plan backfires. Now you gotta trust the shitty manipulative kid with your life so you can save the city and maybe the world. Somehow everything works out.

Oh, not to mention the horrible hallucinations you had of this kid claiming you're just like him.

He caused your friends to abandon you. He plays arcade games with you every Sunday. He is the worst version of yourself. He is a menace. You trust him with your life. He claims to want to brainwash you into being your maid. He drew you into the mafia only to ditch you three years later. How Chuuya doesn't have an aneurysm every time Dazai is mentioned I don't know.

sure ango may have betrayed every organization under the sun but tachihara put in the effort to build up the perfect stereotypical gangstersona and act his silly little heart out for the perfect plot twist so we all know who deserves the award for best port mafia betrayal

My turn to be skk-posting

in my ideal vision, when they finally get in something resembling a relationship (as adults, they were Not There as teenagers), it's because they both want it, which means they unlock previously forbidden features with each other like sharing a bed instead of a couch (you all know about my weird obsession with skk and couches), but also freely touching.

Dazai is a rather tactile person; my guy is freed after 2 weeks in prison and the first thing he does is dance, poke at, lean/hug and play with the hair of the first non-evil person (a stranger) he meets. Being with Chuuya, he constantly finds himself in Chuuya's bubble, and indulges in ways he usually can't with others. That often means direct skin contact, not even with ulterior motives, but really just because he is allowed and he wants to.

Chuuya on the other hand has never done something gently ever: he is fierce, he cares and loves intensely, and he never lets go, but he barely knows the concept of a reassuring gesture (working on it). Dazai being in his bubble wouldn't bother him at all by that point, but the handsy part? it's awkward. needs some getting used to. It's a learning opportunity.

And when Chuuya gets used to it and finally makes a move to return the favour? it's Dazai who short-circuits.

#probably a mix of it being someone else initiating touch instead of him and said contact being (finally) gentle #we're getting off-subject but i'm convinced there's a difference for dazai between casual or violent touch and purposefully gentle touch #after all his way of showing affection is primarily by being a menace and being annoying to those closest to him. which tends to come with-#-threats of violence if not attempted/executed violence (kunikid.a repeatedly choking or drop-kicking him for his repeated offences)#AND a difference between being touched with and without bandages (it's like a second skin) where *with* bandages it's mostly whatever #this man flirts off-screen like his life depends on it he does not mind physical touch BUT (<- your cue to make some headcanons)#on a tangent do you think dazai's fingers would be cold asking for chuuya's sanity #bsd #skk #soukoku #apparently i talk sometimes

Storm Bringer AU where everyone was too late and Chuuya didn't resist enough. (more details under the cut ↓)

Chuuya finished reciting the activation phrase the first time and released Arahabaki, which the lab could contain using their emergency water protocol (flash-flood the room like they wanted to in the video, since the room was a tank for holding water). They could then override Chuuya's "persona model", aka erase his memories for easier conditioning.

Verlaine would be a few minutes too late and find the room being emptied with Chuuya still hung on he wall. Chuuya being mostly unresponsive (that was a whole lot of physical and mental trauma in a very short time), the whole thing hit way too close to home. Verlaine unhooked Chuuya from his torture position, but left him there as he went to rampage through the whole facility and take revenge on the researchers (for himself or for Chuuya?) and find N.

In the meantime, Dazai and Adam are unaware of the situation and start off doing the exact same thing they do in the light novel, but then realize something's off compared to Dazai's predictions. Above events ensues.

Thinking about early relationship Soukoku again

About Dazai being reluctant to change anything about their dynamic. Everything in his life is so different to what it used to be, he's different. But him and Chuuya, their partnership? That's constant. He's afraid of it changing, afraid it will break somehow, that he'll mess things up and loose Chuuya for good.

So despite being a romantic at heart, he fights that change. He tries to keep things as much the same as they've always been before the relationship. He thinks it's the safest way to maintain it. Even after getting together, he still tries to hold some distance from Chuuya because he's afraid what will happen when he doesn't.

What he doesn't know is Chuuya secret craves the mundane coupley stuff that comes with relationships. His whole life has been one messed up event to the next. A relationship, going on dates, getting dumb matching sets, flowers, remembering anniversaries, that's a whole world of tenderness and care Chuuya's never had.

But he doesn't know how to go about it. Chuuya definitely doesn't know how to ask for it. So his attempts to engage in the romantic stuff are clumsy and forced.

Dazai seeing this, misunderstands, letting his own fears cloud his judgments. He thinks it's forced because its not something Chuuya wants, but that he feels he has to do. He sees this as their partnership changing, he thinks Chuuya is uncomfortable. (And Chuuya is, a little, from being out his comfort zone, but not in the way Dazai's thinking)

Its awkward and tensions keep building, because despite getting together, they are still terrible at just telling each other what they want.

Until it all implodes on them. They probably get into an argument over something really silly like matching mugs and half way through they realise how ridiculous they're being. Finally, they talk it out, which is still one hell of an embarrassing conversation, but they struggle through it. Because that's what you do when you're adults who care about each other, you talk.

And then, once Dazai has basically gotten permission to be the very embarrassing romantic he is, he doesn't hold back anymore. Something Chuuya almost definitely wasn't prepared for, but doesn't regret. (Even if he sometimes lies and says he does)
