My friend sent me this image and I quickly got to work trying it for my warm-up. I like the idea of a spellcaster using a wand more like a conductive tool, such as a lightning rod, and exerting the magic from their free hand. Now I have to make a spellcaster who casts spells like a conductor guiding an orchestra!

Remembered the funniest fucking thing that I'm unashamedly going to steal from my dnd work friend, who said that at his table, while the party was in talks with a bunch of wizards, one PC jumped up, yelled "COUNTERSPELL CHECK" and then lobbed a fireball right at said group of wizards
Insane. Inspired. Incredible. The workings of a madman

1980s fantasy-themed silver and helenite jewelry by Monica Roi Saxon / MRS Sunshine Enterprises Inc (ad in Dragon magazine #62, June 1982).  Helenite is an artificial glass made by fusing ash from the 1980 eruption of Mount St Helens.
D&D inspo:  Unique gems might be found around volcanoes, in areas blasted by dragon breath, around portals to the Elemental Plane of Fire, or within fiery outer planes.

To anyone who ever gets stuck making D&D characters, here are some ideas to steal
a changling who is pretending to be a different race. (Neither the party nor the other players know)
A warlock who is in a romantic relationship with their patron
A cleric that is actually a minor god who accidentally switched bodies with one of their clerics, and both cleric and god are trying to figure out how to switch back
A bard who is based on a non musical performance medium (a poet, an artist, a mime, etc.)
A dad who is getting into adventuring because his child is an adventurer and he wants to take an interest in their interest
Spellcaster who is always carrying a small animal into combat, just to finally reveal the animal is actually the spellcaster
A bloodhunter Dhampire who needs to suck peoples blood (or if that’s gross for you you can choose one of the other options for what dhampires crave) to use their abilities
Evil wizard who was tricked into drinking a potion that gave them a Conscience so now they feel bad when they try doing evil shit
A really scary looking Goliath who struggles with talk to people with the goal of making 100 friends
A hardened warrior who has only ever known the horrors of war, who is now trying to learn how to live in a time of peace

My favorite way to come up with content for dnd is to use songs. This method isn’t great for large plots and is best suited for characters or one of encounters
Pick any song or just pay attention to the music you are listening to.
Then choose a few lyrics that you like or that stand out to you
Spin that into whatever content you need at the time
Remember not to be too strict or too formal
Let’s use “It takes the truth to fool me” from I can’t decide by the scissor sisters as an example. Here’s a few ideas
An automaton dungeon guard who only lets people pass if they tell the truth when questioned (there could be a plaque or note left behind to inform the players)
In order to get in to a palace, you are placed under a truth telling spell. The party is recruited for a job by some spies, but don’t get told any info about it until they get inside
An npc who is paranoid of everyone but all they want is someone they can trust (could be anyone from a shopkeeper to a librarian. Npcs are better with a layer you can fall back on)
