After 3 years and one EPIC final battle that lasted well over 20 rounds, our D&D campaign finally concluded on August of this year. The feels were real and the ending was bittersweet.
And during that time we've made some really special life-long friends.
I originally drew this as a holiday gift for the group in December of 2021, but it also works as a great stand-in for the times we spent together playing this remarkable adventure. Thank you Danelle, Robyn, Leila and Gareth for being the best humans <3

The Combat Shield and Mini-adventure for Basic and Expert D&D served the same role as AD&D's DM screen, with art by Jeff Easley facing the players along with the PC experience tables for level advancement, and important tables for the DM on the opposite side (TSR, 1984). This was for the 1983 3rd version of Basic D&D and 2nd version of Expert, to which TSR added Companion in 1984, followed by Master and Immortal Rules in the following 2 years to complete the "BECMI" D&D set.
The 8-page adventure "The Treasure of the Hideous One" by David Cook includes a full page scroll of backstory in tiny italic text, which seems an unnecessarily tedious way to begin a short adventure.

Arguably it's still a WIP, but here's the DM screen I've been working on for myself! I completely free-handed the woodburning and essentially did everything else by hand. The veins were first carved out and then filled in with lab-made turquoise, gold leaf, and resin. It's got five magnets along the top and spans about 4ft long when fully splayed out.
The frames have acetate on them to mimic glass, then a "frame" of thin cardboard with a black cardstock backing. I can actually insert photos into them and intend to do so of my players' characters!

I made this a while ago, but thought I’d show off my DM screen here!
It’s made from a disassembled cardboard box, the outside is painted with acrylics and the inside is lined with black fabric. I also put velcro strips on the inside, so that I can rearrange things instead of permanently sticking them on the screen.
It was originally supposed to be a different design, but then the cardboard started to buckle as I was priming it, and I ended up with kind of a dragonhide texture. Which, to be fair, is cooler than what I originally had in mind.
(also, the little rods are metal weights to keep the screen open)

Kicking off World Space Week, here are some more official WotC Spelljammer Art pieces.
I love the #Neogi #Nightspider ship, and the two DM Screen Covers by Julian Koch and Jedd Chevrier are stunning.

I think the DM is out to get us (Didier Guiserix, referencing Dave Trampier’s AD&D DM screen, Casus Belli 2, November 1980)

The most satisfying part of Dungeon Mastering is having your own little area to hide your secrets.
