Life passing by you. Be creative
Creativity is an essential aspect of the human experience. It allows us to express ourselves, connect with others, and explore new ideas and perspectives. Whether it's through art, writing, music, or any other creative outlet, engaging in creative activities can help improve our overall well-being and quality of life.
Here are some tips for incorporating creativity into your daily routine:
Make time for it: Prioritize creativity by setting aside time each day or week to engage in creative activities that inspire you.
Explore different mediums: Don't be afraid to try new things and experiment with different art forms, such as painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, or creative writing.
Find inspiration: Look for inspiration in your daily life, whether it's through nature, music, books, or conversations with others.
Collaborate with others: Collaborating with others can be a great way to spark new ideas and connect with others who share your interests.
Embrace imperfection: Remember that creativity is not about perfection, but rather about self-expression and exploration. Don't be afraid to make mistakes and embrace the imperfections in your creative work.
Ultimately, creativity is a valuable and rewarding aspect of life, and incorporating creative activities into your routine can help you feel more fulfilled, inspired, and connected to the world around you.

Exploring the Art of Designing
Introduction: Designing is more than just a profession; it's a form of artistic expression that shapes the world around us. From the sleek lines of modern architecture to the vibrant colors of fashion trends, design influences every aspect of our lives. In this blog, we'll delve into the fascinating world of designing, exploring its various forms, techniques, and the impact it has on our society.
The Essence of Design: At its core, design is about problem-solving and creativity. Whether it's creating a user-friendly interface for a website or designing a breathtaking piece of artwork, designers blend functionality with aesthetic appeal. They consider elements such as color, shape, texture, and space to craft visually engaging and meaningful experiences.
Designing Across Industries: Designing is not limited to one field; it permeates multiple industries. Graphic designers craft compelling visuals for branding and marketing, while interior designers transform spaces into inviting environments. Fashion designers push boundaries with innovative clothing designs, and architects conceptualize and build structures that define cityscapes.
The Creative Process: Behind every stunning design is a meticulous creative process. Designers start with research and brainstorming, gathering inspiration from nature, art, and current trends. They then sketch and prototype their ideas, refining them based on feedback and iteration. Finally, they bring their vision to life through digital tools, traditional craftsmanship, or a combination of both.
The Role of Technology: Technology has revolutionized the field of designing, offering new tools and possibilities. Software like Adobe Creative Suite empowers designers to manipulate images, create animations, and design intricate layouts with ease. 3D printing technology has opened up new avenues for product designers, allowing them to prototype and manufacture complex designs quickly.
Designing for Impact: Designers have the power to influence behavior, evoke emotions, and drive change. Sustainable design practices promote environmental consciousness, while inclusive design ensures accessibility for all individuals. Design thinking methodologies encourage collaboration and empathy, leading to innovative solutions to complex problems.
Conclusion: Designing is an art form that blends creativity, functionality, and purpose. It shapes our world in profound ways, from the products we use daily to the spaces we inhabit. By understanding and appreciating the diverse aspects of designing, we can harness its potential to create a more beautiful, functional, and inclusive world for everyone Read more

Big Blooms Print Dress Complete: Butterick 6582
Here is the final result of all that effort. Effort which included altering the pattern, underlining the whole dress, and finally creating a sash to make sure the hint of a fig-leaf got lost in the print as a whole. It has the small waist, and full skirts which were still fashionable in 1960 after a whole decade of being fashionable. Their popularity probably owing, in part, to the ease they had for dancing. By 1960, they had crept up from lower calf to a bit below the knee.
This is a simple sash which you can make yourself by drafting on the fabric. It is  3 inches in width when finished. The fabric can be cut on the bias, or slightly off bias, if the bias is very slippery, or in this case weirdly off bias because I had almost no fabric left. So you need to estimate the length because you will need more or less your waistline, depending on the give of the bias-cut fabric, plus enough to seam. Pinning it around your waist over the dress is really the only way to make sure you are getting the right length; and remember you need to ponder seam allowances, and the placket with the fasteners on each end. I always mark where I think the ends should be, but cut it a bit bigger in case I am wrong. It is easy to cut off fabric, much harder to add fabric.
You will need 12 inches in width plus seam allowances, because you are going to seam it  into a long tube. Once seamed it is 6 inches in width and then you will gather the width down to three inches. This will give it some draping. Then you will sew each end to a placket that should be 3 inch plus seam allowances and then as wide as need be to accommodate the fasteners you want to use. One of my plackets here is a larger because I wanted to make sure I could make the whole thing longer if need be. But it turned out perfectly comfortable as is.
I have started work on the silk organza overdress. So there will be more on this coming.

First round touch display working with ESP32-S3 👉🔴🟢🔵
We showed off some fabulous shaped displays last week - and now we're getting them running! This is a 2.1" 480x480 round display with SPI configuration and an 18-bit RGB interface. Thankfully there is already an Arduino library https://github.com/Lzw655/ESP32_Display_Panel that supports the SPI configuration over port expander stuff on this eval board, plus the touchscreen drivers, too - it saved me a lot of time! The chipset is ST7701, a typical TFT panel driver. You definitely have to initialize the display first with the proper configuration before you can blast RGB data for it to show up, but we were able to noodle that together here https://github.com/ladyada/ESP32_Display_Panel/blob/master/src/lcd/ST7701.cpp#L37, and now it's looking great. Now we know this display and touch setup works, we'll start ordering the displays for us to stock and use.

I Do Love an Evening Cape: 1905 The Columbia Book of the Use of Yarns
I love a cape for evening for the same reason I think they are silly for day wear: that they are a bit impractical. The long ones usually must be clutched to be kept shut which means they are no good for day wear when you need to full use of your hands to open a door or carry a laptop. But in the evening, when you are relaxing, you can be a bit impractical and enjoy it.
In the evening, you can also indulge in the frivolous if you are in the mood. This opera cap from 1905 falls into that category. The whole thing is crocheted, first in a yarn they call Floss, in order to create the body of the cape. Then, to create the ruffles, you go back over the body in order to add 8 rows of ruffles, also in Floss and then add to the edges of those rows, picot trimming in Shetland Wool. a I inch ribbon is drawn through the upper edge to keep its shape. Then, a 3 inch wide ribbon, not a rarity back then when large ribbons were used on large hats, is added to create a tie to keep the cape around your neck.
The whole thing looks like a forthy confection and seems worth the effort. I can imagine it as particularly effective in pastels which always look like they floaty. They wore it with the long gowns of the day, with puffy bodices, tiny waists, and long trumpet-flared skirts, but I don’t see why we couldn’t throw it over a modern look to soften it and draw attention to the face. Of course, one would have to work out a modern gauge and size, but doing the math would not be very hard.
This is from an out of copyright book which is available at Archive.org: https://openlibrary.org/search?q=%22columbia+books+of+the+use+of+yarn%22&mode=everything
